I wish I could remember when it started but I can't, probably sometime in the last 3 months. In the beginning it was very rarely happening but now it is ridiculous. It happens with the default music app (my car automatically grabs the music off my phone via BT when I am near it) and Spotify. It happens if I am connected via Bluetooth, or if I am using an aux cord, or if I am just playing it off my phone, both with and without earbuds. I can't find an external reason for it, the phone can be sitting untouched on my desk and it will just pause the music randomly. I then have to turn on the phone to press the play button to continue listening. Any ideas?
Oh, and my phone is not rooted and I have the lollipop update. Thanks!
If you want you can download this app and start running it while your playing your music it SHOULD capture everything in the system as it is happening: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.infamous.logcat then just copy everything audio releated. You can also search, see by us seeing whats going on in the system we can better determine it. Who knows maybe you have found a new bug in the lg software :good:

Do you have the log? You may want to just uninstall the Google app it may end up fixing your problem.

Sorry, I just now checked back. I have been using the log, but am not familiar with it and I have no clue how to use it. I have recorded/saved logs but I don't know how to access them to even look at them and I haven't had time to read up on how to use it. My fault for dropping the ball. As soon as I can find the logs on my phone I will post something. Thank you for following up with me.
Well I have made logs and I can't see anything on them at all pertaining to the music pausing. The program is extremely slow when I try to 'record'. The last time took 8 minutes just to load the recorder. I tried to export the log to post but after 15 minutes of the program "compiling', I gave up. The problem is extremely frustrating as some days I can run for 30+ minutes with no problems and then all of a sudden every few minutes/seconds the music pauses, which of course then interrupts my run (I'm training for a half marathon and this is stressing me out, lol!). Same goes for in my car; everything is fine and then boom! it's just pause, pause, pause, pause, over and over. I am at a loss.
Anyway, I'm just going to wipe the phone and start over, one app at a time. Maybe something weird is somehow conflicting.
Thanks for trying to help!
Well, just following up in case anyone comes across this same problem and stumbles upon my post.
Before wiping my phone I started making backups of my stuff, I had also done as much possible searching to see if anyone else was having this issue. Well, when I got to my Fitbit app, I remembered that some people had issues (not identical, but sort of similar) with their Android activity trackers and their phone, which made me wonder if I was having the issue too. I have been using the Fitbit app with a Fitbit One with no problems. In January I upgraded to the Fitbit Charge, which uses the same app, BUT the Charge also connects to the phone through the app via Bluetooth so that phone calls will show up on the Charge display. Anyway, I uninstalled the Fitbit app and I have not had the issue since then. So I am guessing there is something with the app, the Charge, and the phone not working together.

Ever since I installed Bionix v1.3.1 my phone randomly stops being able to play music. It happens every 2 hours or so. I've tried different music players and they all have the error above. The only thing that fixes it is a reboot. This works but takes so long, and I usually go to play music in the car and all of a sudden its broken again.
And its all my music not just certain files. System sounds still work tho, so its something with the internal storage because I don't even use the external sd. I've been trying to find an app or something that can remount the internal storage and not the Ext. SD.
Yes, i've also tried different roms, like Loki, Trigger and others. The other day I ODIN'ed back to JFD and rooted and started all over but the problem persists. I've noticed some other people asking questions about this but nobody has a definite answer besides reboot. We shouldn't have to reboot to listen to music every so often. Some people said unplugging your usb cord without unmounting can cause that, but I've tested it both ways and still the issue comes up. Anybody with some know how or some devs willing to input? Thanks. Running the latest Trigger at the moment if that matters.

Never experienced any of this. What music players are you using and what format is your music in?
Yeah this used to happen to me until on day it just stopped working and now it plays one song and freezes.

They're all mp3's and I used the stock player, the MIUI player, mixzing, mort player and poweramp too.
Have you tried changing back to stock rom? Or maybe trying other formats? Cuz I have no clue... =P Sorry
Delete the twitter app. Mine was doing the samething, now its fixed after deleting the twitter app
Twitter doesn't cause the problem. I've had it installed for months.
I'm having the same issue, but I'm on the stock 2.2 and rooted. There's been other lingering issues as well, like wifi not reliably connecting, the system thinking it's in debug mode with just a car charger attached, and other things that are irritating, but nothing major like that.
I've found something else interesting about this.
The YouTube player also fails to load any videos when this happens - I get the "there was an error while playing - touch to retry" message.
The music player will also still play .wav files just fine - which may explain why the system sounds still work.
I'm guessing that the youtube app and MP3s share a codec somehow, and something is failing to work properly. Beyond that, I know little else.
Yes, I noticed youtube too..I found a pretty quick work around. Download Hot Reboot from the market. You just push the hot reboot button on the widget and restarts the whole system without rebooting the actual phone. Once you push it, it shows you the android boot screen for a couple seconds and then back to your home screen and the sounds work again. So weird. I can't wait until we have a good 2.3 version working, because out of all the gingerbread roms I tested the issue was non existent. Good luck Everyone.
Trust me on this.. you can check my other posts on this same issue... I started getting this same error out of nowhere and it happened all the time... someone said delete the official twitter app. I did and it has not happened since.
I have been using plume.
And I don't care about these people who say twitter is not the cause. When there is an issue and changing or removing one thing solves that issue... then that one thing was the problem.
That was DEFINITELY the problem..Uninstalled twitter yesterday when you posted that and I haven't had the issue since. You sir are awesome. By the way, how did you find out twitter was the cause?
Confirmed fixed by uninstalling the Twitter App
That definitely fixed it for me. All my music started playing fine right after the uninstall finished.
thanks!
I'm reporting the bug.

I realized that the music errors were almost insync with when i would check my twitter.... or at least I just felt it was, ha. then searching through the interwebs someone else said they were having problems and they thought it was related to twitter so i said screw it and deleted my twitter app and the problem went away.

I have the same problem.
I've uninstalled twitter but the problem still exists. So I guess twitter was not the main or only cause.
Are the files you're tyring to play acc or mp3?

I'm having the same issue with the of mp3 files that I know work but my music player saying "unsupported file".
And yes a reboot does get me where I can play the media file. Also this issue not only stops local mp3's from playing but also youtube wont play a clip, short video clips wont play thru the browser option, I can have ever choose "internet" and the file downloads to my phone (feels almost like I'm back on winmobile 6.5).
I do have the Offical Twitter installed on my Cappy, but as of this posting, I;ve unsinstalled Twitter and when with another app. I will post back tommorow is my phone does the same thing again now that Twitter is removed.
Much Thanks....
{Edit}...I must say that my phone actually feels more responsive since removing Offical Twitter for Plume but Plumes Widget is not that great all the app looks nice, its been 4 hrs and music still plays from default music player.
I was skeptical about this solution, but I tried deleting the Twitter app anyhow. It completely solved the problem. Bravo to whomever figured this one out.
So I have a Droid X2, now un-rooted and back on stock 2.3.4 and this is an issue I have had since I had the phone and have never found a fix. I have asked this multiple times on the Verizon forum for the DX and never get an answer...
SO every day I seem to have issues with my notifications going mute, sometimes, but not always, my ringer even goes mute. Usually once a day I have to reboot my phone because it is the only way I can fix it. I thought at first it had to do with my blutooth, but since SBFing and going back to stock I have not re-added my blutooth and it still happens. I took it into the store and he suggested that it is an app causing a conflict and I should uninstall 10 or so apps at a time to try and narrow it down... but I just went ahead and did a factory restore to see if it would help... but it happened again today...
Now, the notifications I use are ones I put on the phone. I have tried putting them on the SD and the internal and it seems to happen with both. I have also put them directly on and also tried ringdroid but it still does the same thing. The sound and notification levels will be all the way up, and when you go into the settings and try to pick a notification sound or ringtone, even the stock ones, you wont hear anything (and you would usually hear a preview of the sound)... The only way I can get the sounds to work is to reboot the phone and when it comes back, it will be fine... for a while. Sometimes have to reboot multiple times a day, but almost always at least once a day to get them back up...
Since you all seem smarter than the Verizon folks and have been a huge help to me thus far, I thought I would ask here and see if anyone else has ran into this and has a fix or if there are any known apps that would cause this. I have done searches but found nothing...

I upgraded to android 2.3.6 overcome 4.1.0 (its a custum rom for galaxy tab). Lets see if it resolves the issue. I'll report back if the problem happened again.

I've had a similar issue but not exactly the same. I normally keep my phone on silent mode but sometimes during the day it will automatically go off silent mode. Seems to happen most often when the battery level is below half. I just learned to live with it. My alarm would deactivate by itself in Froyo, so at least this isn't going to cause me to be late for work like that.
Problem is solved here after last week's upgrade. I'd suggest flashing a new build if possible. I guess for some unknow reason, parts of the OS gets corrupted or maybe its a bug in device drivers for our android phones thats been addressed in later builds.

I'm certainly no dev, just an avid user who likes learning and tweaking to get the most from his phone. I recall having similar problems with FROYO stock or rooted which as I remember went away when GINGERBREAD came out. I've been running DZK's CM7 beta as my daily driver since it was released with virtually no problems and unlike most other ROM's does not need multiple tweaks and scripts to scream with the exception of a wifi and/or dialer glitch that looks like Moonshadow has recently fixed. Sooooo unless HDMI is a deal breaker I'd suggest you flash CM7 and see if that takes care of your problems just remember to abide by the cautions regarding use of TBU to restore apps. And lastly as a rule of thumb I reboot my phone every morning once I get to 100% charge...force of habit I guess.
Good luck

Thanks everyone... I havent been on because it strangely hasn't been happening. Not sure what changed. Did not uninstall any apps, and have not had any updates (as far as I know... well besides app updates) and for some reason it hasnt been happening lately. Again, no idea what changed. Still unrooted on stock 2.3.4 gingerbread and phone seems fine now. Been happening for months and when I finally come here to get help, the problem seemed to have went away. I will keep you all updated if this changes. Hopefully if it is happening to anyone else, it has also been fixed... Thanks again for all your help. Really appreciate you guys helping out this noob
what i did
i have an mb870 too with no service running google voice and groove ip . my issue with notifications
was with my kids hitting all the button selections she could. in the process my message notifications
got defaulted to the wrong messaging app. i was still getting messages but no tones or vibrations.
so i just went to all the messaging apps i have and made sure to select the right one for the default
hope this helps
Hello.
I've had my Motorola [Electrify] for about a year now, and a few months after getting it, started having problems with the camera, playing music, and not receiving notification sounds. For the camera, I it would look as though it was starting, and then go back to the home screen with a flash saying "Camera cannot initialize." (or something to that effect.) When I would try to play music, it would stop and say "Sorry, the play does not support this type of audio format." It was MP3. And I would sometimes not receive notification sounds. I have been researching and battling this issue for months when suddenly yesterday, I read that for people whose camera wouldnt work, they went into the main settings and clear data for the camera, and the gallery. It worked. Camera worked and so did playing mp3s. Well, today it started not working again. This time I only cleared data for the gallery, and again everything worked like it should. I did root the phone several months ago, using Photon Torpedo. First, I wonder if using that method, if I may have messed something up. Anyone hear of this sort of thing? But then again, I am sure I had problems with this before I rooted. Second, I wonder if anyone knows a specific correlation between malfunctions and the gallery app. Third, would freezing the gallery app with Titanium Backup cripple functionality of the phone/media, and would it work to keep these malfunctions from happening?
Sorry for being long winded, but hoping I'm on to something here.
Thank you.
I posted that a few days ago, but in a different forum, (wrong phone forum) but now today I find out that clearing data in gallery was only a temporary fix, as today it did not work. This is the second or third time I thought I found a connection, but was wrong. Does anyone else have this problem and come up with an actual fix? For the life of me, I cannot figure out what the root cause of this problem is. Thank you.
I haven't heard of it. Have you tried a factory reset?
Sent from my Amazon Kindle Fire using xda premium
Wifes photon doing exactly same thing. what apps you have installed. maybe we can narrow it down. I did a factory reset, flashed a different rom, then installed all her apps back on. worked correctly for 3 days then no notification sounds, camera wont open and can t veiw videos on facebook or youtube. reboot the phone and all is well for a few days then the problem comes back.
I have not found this anywhere else, so I finally have to ask.
When I receive a phonecall, the phone rings. I answer the phone, put it to my ear, then suddenly the stock music player starts playing a song. I have to go into the app and pause it every time. When the phonecall is over, the app closes itself.
My first attempt was to try and see what options were on in each app, but there doesn't seem to be anything related to something like this in either music players or the phone app. I went ahead and just disabled / uninstalled ANY music-related apps (player, pandora, winamp...) and tested it, and it still happens! How can the app run when frozen?
I'm really at my wits end here, can anyone offer any insight?
Sounds like a bug with the model of your phone. If you are running on a rooted phone I would recommend freezing the default music player and trying another player. On my phone I ended up freezin the app and installing a player then moved the app just installed to my system apps folder that way it stays there on a reformat. Hope this gives you some ideas...sorry I cant offer a fix. Keep me updated.

But that's the thing, it is disabled! I had disabled it through the applications manager. And it still happens. Just wild. Not gonna root+TiBu+Freeze yet, so we'll have to see.

Up until a few days ago I had a Note 4 running CM12.1 and every now and then the volume would suddenly drop down a level. I couldn't notice any pattern to it, it happened whether the screen was on or off, playing music or playing a game, running through speaker or headphones etc. I put up with it since I was getting a new phone pretty soon anyway.
Fast forward to today when I've finished setting up my Note 5. For some reason this is doing the same thing! Volume drops down one level. I can't imagine why as I set this up as a totally fresh device, not copying any settings or apps across from my old phone.
My first instinct was to get a logcat for it. I started recording, swapped to an app that played sounds so I'd hear any changes (it seems to happen randomly and I don't want to have to watch my phone and wait for it) and within ten seconds it happened so I immediately swapped back to Catlog and saved the recording. Only problem is it's 3378 lines long and I have no idea what I'm looking for so there's not much I can do with it. Kinda hoping someone who knows how to read logcat can tell me what's causing this.
Here's a pastebin of the log: http://pastebin.com/HEtsYtU8
It happens towards the bottom, within the last 3 seconds. I've had a look myself but like I said nothing really stands out since I don't know what to look for. Help would be greatly appreciated.

I have also experienced this issue on both my Retail Verizon Note 3 and Note 2 phones. This issue only started for me about a week ago. I suspected it was caused by a recent update to one of my Android Wear apps, because that was the only common thread I had between the 2 phones. I looked through your logcat and found where you are using Wear Mini Launcher, just like I am.
There were a couple of lines in your logcat that caught my attention.....particularly the line - 09-11 20:19:38.181 D/AudioService(3769): setStreamVolume:3 index:0flags:1 package:com.npi.wearminilauncher
I checked and found that the Wear Mini Launcher was updated about a week ago (around the same time this issue started). I played with Wear Mini Launcher settings to see if there was something I could toggle off regarding media volume, but didn't see anything... so I uninstalled Wear Mini Launcher and rebooted the phone. I tested out the media volume and no longer had the "random volume dropping" issue after uninstalling Wear Mini Launcher.
I love having Wear Mini Launcher for my Sony Smartwatch, so I Googled and found the older 4.0.4 version that was working well before the most recent update. (You can grab it here: http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/nicola...ear-mini-launcher-4-0-4-android-apk-download/ ). I don't think it should be a problem to post this link in XDA because the app is free on the Play Store and this should be the exact same signed app that the Developer released in June 2015.
After installing the older version of Wear Mini Laucher, I'm still no longer having the "volume dropping" issue, and I've got Wear Mini Launcher working well for my Sony Smartwatch 3.
I'm curious to see if this will fix things for you too. Let me know how things turn out.
If we can confirm that it's the most recent Wear Mini Launcher update that's causing the issue, we should reach out to the Developer to let him know.
Good spotting, I never would've thought about that. I'll try it out and report back.

I'm now sure it was the recent update to the Wear Mini Launcher.
Someone on an Android Police article commented about the volume issue as well, and then I read through Play Store feedback comments on Wear Mini Launcher where the Developer told someone that the "volume changing" problem is a known issue that they are planning to correct in the next update. (see my screenshot of the Play Store feedback).
Looks like reverting to the 4.0.4 app version is an easy fix for now.

Awesome! That's probably the last app I would've suspected of causing this issue. Glad to see the issue is resolved for both of us for the meantime
