[Q] IR remote with LG G3 - Verizon LG G3

First lets start with a scenario.
I'm a amature photographer who does a lot of star gazing photography. I originally had a Samsung Galaxy S 4 (go ahead make your puns about star gazing and galaxy's). I later moved to the LG G3 which seems to be a far superior phone. Now with my photography I used to use an app called DSLR Remote that would act as a IR trigger for my Sony DSLR and I could set my times and exposures this way.
Well after trying a few different times with the DSLR Remote app and having no luck of using it on my G3 I'm wondering if there is any application outside of LG that can utilize the IR hardware built into the phone. I haven't seen much on this, but I figure it would be my first step in finding out where the problem lies (application or phone)
Thank you for your time

Hi! I hope you don't mind me asking, why outside of the LG software?

Because I'm wondering if it's the phone that doesn't support 3rd party apps using the ir hardware or if it's just the apps I find don't support it.
Basically I'm seeing if I'm searching for the holy grail. Or if I basically go on a ir app overload on Google play I'll find one.

From what I've read, almost all apps don't support our IR hardware.
If you can come up with a different remote that works for your purpose, then you can teach the phone from the other remote by making a custom remote in LG Quick Remote. Sorry I don't have better news or info. Good luck!

You're fine, but yeah that's also my mindset. The developer of the app I use on the S4 seems to think it works on the G3 and has been tested to work on it, but it's all for the international versions. Sadly enough I still have my S4 still around just for photography which kind of sucks but it works for now!

Try Smart IR Remote - Anymore in the Play store. Not sure what the price is as I bought it over a year ago. It had worked for me while I was on stock LG and also my Note 10.1 old version.

Scratch everything I've said....it works on Android L! No feedback or led flash but it does work. I did confirm it wasn't working on KK

Flash on HTC One M7

I had a trial with the S4 but returned it due to my eyes hating the display compared to my old Samsung Infuse super clear, bright display. I had disabled every bit of bloatware and successfully installed Adobe flash player, and could play flash videos on sites through certain browsers (Boat and Dolphin). I must be able to watch flash American Sign Language videos so I would like to know of others experiences with the HTC One worked well, or not, for flash videos after installing flash player as I had on the S4.
Thanks...
Flash works on stock browser bu default. It is also an option to enable/disable in stoxk browser's settings

Yes, that is what the S4 stock browser supposedly did also but in reality it did not. That's why I'm wanting to know of users real life experiences playing various videos on different web pages before I buy the ONE. The display of the ONE is so far superior to the S4!

I haven't tried it much, but it worked fine in the couple of times I did. Do you have a particular website you'd like me to try?
Also, if there's a store nearby, you could go try out specific sites yourself.

Thank you... I just spent the day trying to find a live HTC One in the 'big' city area of Vermont. There were plenty of S4, but only mock-ups of the ONE. Best Buy, Walmart and several AT&T stores only had the fakes.... and the AT&T corporate store was beyond rude and ignorant!
The most important videos need my login info. On the following page there is a video on the top right side and also the lower right side, http://www.lifeprint.com/that that would be a good start.
Another site is http://www.signingsavvy.com/browse.php
Type a simple word in the search box and a video should come up to play.
That would be a big help. Thanks...

Unfortunately, most of the American Sign Language sites, especially those with thousands of word sign videos. ASL is completely visual, no voice. An ASL site programmer I know said it's been an absolute nightmare since the new phones and tablets have been phasing out flash and there are so many different platforms dealing with it differently.

On the first site, I couldn't get the upper-right video to play. It showed up as a flash movie, but the play button didn't work. The video in the lower-right seemed to work, though.
Couldn't test the second site, as it says a login is required to search.
Thanks for trying...
Much appreciated!

I know Lifeprint.com is trying, but they and many of the other sites have such a massive amount of video files from decades of individual vocabulary word signs, etc. It is a major job that has not gone smoothly. Think of changing format of each word in an unabridged dictionary (visual only). On each and every ASL site I use there are people writing in daily about their devices not able to play the videos... Mac, Windows, IOS, Android, and all of the individual variables from before and after the flash/HTML5 upheaval. Most of these people are not particularly cyber-tech savvy and just need to be able to watch the videos to learn ASL. I have severe hearing loss and can not use hearing aids so I have been trying to learn sign for several years. In the beginning the issues were only my own brain not being on board to learn ASL easily,.... now I am beyond frustrated with the videos and sites I depend on almost every day not working as they should.
My Infuse is in the dark ages (Froyo) with flash, but I can play most of the videos and use the ASL sites. When I had the trial with the S4, I could watch some of the videos and sites after installing flash player and a specific version of Dolphin and Boat browsers. They had many quirks though.... a video would show up but be unresponsive to touch, or the video show would play and act fine but not be able to be zoomed so it would be too tiny to see clearly. Before I had installed Flash Player none of the sites worked at all. My friend has an Iphone and Ipad and is often unable to use the ASL sites and videos. Some sites I have given up with but some I must be able to use.
Most youtube videos will play on the new phones. It's the non-youtube videos that I need to be able to watch and interact with.
AT&T had my returned S4 sitting lost somewhere in their warehouse until I had a chat and they found it. Now I am waiting for them to process and say I am able to update. I also keep hoping that HTC quality control will be improve and the Ones will come through with fewer issues. My old Infuse seems to be working better since they reactivated it with a new sim so maybe I will just wait a bit longer rather than adding another possible $36 return fee.
I use Maxthon browser to play flash websites. You can set it up to play flash always when you go to settings. It's free on play store.
Hope that helps.

Thanks, Minicoop. I had tried Maxthon browser a few times on my Infuse, my Galaxy Tab 8.9, and the S4 trial. It did not handle the specific videos I need to play well at all. I have really seen that since html5 has become the norm, all browsers that supposedly play flash websites do not play the videos I need to watch without issues or at all.
Just a confirmation about not using tools to root.

Bought both apps a few weeks ago and just getting around to trying them out. Not sure how this is supposed to work. It's rather straight forward; takes you straight to the remote, but when I hit both the xD and xxxD buttons in the app nothing happens on the camera. Do I need the camera in a specific mode? Trying in full auto.

yes set the drive mode to 2sec/remote this will activate the Infrared receiver in the camera.
Ahh... The T3 doesn't have infared. I probably should have checked that out beforehand, but you might want to specify that in your posts. Keep the $, I appreciate the development.

I mean my app support 7 DSLRs companies each company has at least 15 camera ,I dont think the app description will allow this much of words.
and please send the gmail account you used to purchase the app so I can refund you. I insist.

I'm not saying list every compatible camera. I'm saying maybe specify "infared remote capability". That should sum it up don't ya think? Again- my fault; I shoulda realized I didn't have remote capability beforehand.
And no, I really don't want the money back. I like that you're developing for DSLR's and I don't miss the few dollars. :good: Just gives me one extra reason to buy the T4i I've been thinking about.
Awesome man. I just purchased and it's working quite well on my SONY a77.

try to spend money on prime lenses rather expensive DSLR.

the story about this some user contacted me and told me that he had a problem and it was whenever the app starts it shows the canon remote and he had to slide twice until he reaches the sony remote and complaining about the loading time when the app starts.
so what I did is whenever you start the app for the first time the app will recognise your choice for ever and the startup screen will not show except for the first time or the cache cleared by restart the phone or clear it manually.
so dont worry the app is not running ,even if its running it will consume any power.
I did that so I dont want to confuse the use by adding settings and this the beauty about this app just choose your camera brand and it will remmeber it for ever.
Hey OP, I don't mean to thread cap but just curious.
What are the advantages to your application for $2.5 over the popular free DSLR Remote app?

personally I like 'Smart IR Remote for HTC One'
its easy to connect whatever devices you desire, set-top boxes, cable boxes, dvd/blue-ray players, home theater systems. if its got an IR sensor this app will probably be able to control it.
then create a remote, you can create as many as you want. can be setup for just 1 dedicated device, or you can make like universal remotes. which control multible devices. from there, you can place the buttons as you see fit.
and if theres a specific function thats not listed in the device button selection page. you can make custom macro's right in the app and put a macro on whatever button you want (for examle, can have 1 power button macro that would turn on your TV, cable or set-top box, home theater, and blue-ray all with one press)
Smart IR Remote is the best, the guy in last post is absolutly correct. The developer created remotes for me to use in my Tahoe. Panasonic AV that couldn't be found anywhere on earth. Floating remote which is genius and also a plug in for tasker. If u have a problem or suggestions email the developer they will make it or find it or write something for u. U can create your own too. Buy the pro version it will ease your stress level. Having a remote for everything even my truck that doesn't need to switch to WiFi or Bluetooth or whatever.. IR is quite surprising, when my phone rings even driving down the road, everything mutes.
Here is a floating remote I made just to show u. If you care..

I just snagged a 64GB One from Swappa on an impulse buy, should have it within a week. From what I've read, it appears the Sense remote app has a learning function. I'll be flashing CM11, so I was wondering if Smart IR Remote can do that too? If not, do y'all know of any that can? I have some devices that probably won't be in any database.

Im not sure if Smart IR has a learning mode. but i do know the stock sense ir remote that comes with the htc one isnt very good. i tried it for a while and was so happy when i discovered Smart IR Remote. the ONLY downside to SIRR is it may seem overwhelming to new users. but trust me, once you figure out everything, its very very powerful.

Ha, I eat overwhelming for breakfast. 19 hours of college credits this semester with a full time construction job. I usually tend to go for the most complicated/feature heavy apps out there. But I don't think the other phones out there with blasters can also receive signals, at least the One is the only one I've heard of that can. Pretty much the only reason I'd stay with Sense,is for that specific app, and that's really not worth it. I'll definitely email the SIRR dev if they don't have a learning function, because an OS-independent app with that would be amazing. Now how about FM radio? Do you know if Spirit FM is supported on the One?

[Q] Problem using camera for certain (Barcode) Apps...

Good morning everyone!
Was hoping to get some insight / help regarding an issue I've encountered and wondered if any of you have encountered the same.
I use certain Barcode scanner apps for saving money like Shop Savvy. Only when using the One May's camera I get a blurry, out of focus view from using it via the phone. I've never had this problem with other phones.
I thought my camera was defective but I tested on the store demo at Verizon and it had the same issue.
Putting this out there to request your help. I've tried using the different settings on the apps as well as the camera, no luck.
Thank you!
I suggest a replacement
My suggestion is for you to go back to Verizon and get a replacement phone. All during the Christmas shopping, I used my HTC One Max and the Google Goggles app to research prices from barcodes and it worked without a hitch, even on some barcodes which were smeared on the packages. Based on my very good experience, you seem to have a faulty lens. It's a hassle replacing a phone, but sometimes it's necessary.

Hi,
Thank you for mentioning Google Goggles. That APP works GREAT!!! However, I do not think that I have a faulty lens. The pics from everything else comes out great. I also downloaded the Google Goggles app and that app has no problems whatsoever.
Would you mind downloading and using the Shop Savvy APP? Perhaps it's something to do w/ that app as my phone nor the demo at Verizon worked w/ Shop Savvy.
Thank you!
Shop Savvy
I will download Shop Savvy and try it tomorrow.

If the camera works across multiple other apps then it is not the camera or htcs fault. The devs of the apps you are trying to use need to adjust their app to work properly with the ultrapixel. They are probably making some assumptions in their code about resolution vs pixel density or something along those lines.

i believe that is not the case, if so each and every app developers needs to optimize for hundred's of cameras which is totally inefficient.
Even if that is the case, there are other hundred cameras which don't have ois and they work fine with the app(s), which obviously show the mobile is at fault.

You are proving my point for me. If many of the camera apps work with the One Max (including other barcode scanner ones) then obviously those developers developed their apps more openly to work with more camera hardware. They likely didnt hard code in certain restrictions and/or assumptions.
None of this matters to me particularly because I wont use barcode apps but I do prefer correct information be provided instaed of people just blaming the manufacturer.
Shop Savvy didn't work
I downloaded and installed Shop Savvy. I tested it on several barcodes and had the same results as described by the original poster. It simply doesn't read them. I was actually in a store with my wife picking up some post-Christmas bargains and was glad I had the Google Goggles, which as I posted earlier works perfectly. It was quite satisfying to find that some of the in store sales had some rather drastic price reductions from what was available online. That's rare.

I am guessing you have a little misunderstanding, its not many of the camera apps, its ALL of the barcode apps on all the HTC One MAX phones which are failing.
It matters a lot for us more than you as we are unable to use this on our phones and we need a way to get this fixed in the future. I can buy your assumptions and probabilities provided you have enough documentation from the manufacturer on the camera API that we are talking about, without that i am afraid that the information cannot be agreed on.
To make things little more clear, i made this experiment on my phone using HTC's camera app. When trying to take a pic of a barcode image, the camera is finding is difficult to auto-focus to arrive at a sharp image at the barcode area of the object, while the same camera at the same distance is able to focus on the same objects area which has text only. Leaves me no other option to say HTC has not optimized it.
I wish you had put yourself into our shoes to learn the issue clearly before commenting on it.

Did you try Google Goggles (which I mentioned in my previous posts)? It auto focuses perfectly on the barcode as well as reading accompanying text. Looks up the upc code automatically with no user action (like clicking) required. Search results for the product being examined are shown instantly.

Yes I did, for me Google Goggles also has only partial success, but better better than the other apps. If the stock camera app is able to focus (with user interaction) then Google Goggles does succeed, not otherwise.

Thank you for mentioning Google Goggles. That APP works GREAT!!! ...I also downloaded the Google Goggles app and that app has no problems whatsoever.

Two of the few posters in this thread can use the Google Goggles app to scan barcodes without problem. So apparantly the One Max camera can scan barcodes. It can.

Yes I did, for me Google Goggles also has only partial success, but better better than the other apps. If the stock camera app is able to focus (with user interaction) then Google Goggles does succeed, not otherwise.

I know you have your own rom that you cooked yourself which I'm sure you are running on your phone. Have you tried going back stock unrooted bootloader locked s-on and tried the barcode apps? Maybe there is an issue with being unlocked or your rom.
I know you also have a thread about changing out the stock camera for a One ois one. Likely you have messed with many camera settings that may or may not affect your camera results.
Oh... and I know 'real' developers are dropping from the One Max forum like flies...

and OMFG I know that I donwloaded ShopSavvy and it worked for me for the first and every following barcode I freakin' tried with it.
Every. Single. One.

I was going to make a video of me walking through a store scanning barcodes with shop savvy and laughing hysterically but I am trying to be nice. LOL
But it really does work...

we really wish it works for us.. that is what we want.. but unfortunately for us it does not

well, looking at your results makes me wonder if we the affected users have a faulty camera module, after all the initial HTC's ultrapixel camera modules had QC issues during manufacturing like any other hardware. Gives me one more need to change my camera module which i already wanted to experiment on.

Hello --
I am the OP that started this thread. If some of us DO have a faulty camera module, why does the camera appear to work well for photos / video etc? In my case, the camera CAN pick up barcodes but only via the Google Goggles APP. I does not work on Shop Savvy or other related APPS as I get Mr. blurry cam and extreme trouble focusing enough so that it would capture the barcode.
Is there another way we can test to see if some of us have the faulty camera module? My phone is stock. No, changes to anything.
Thank you all for your input.

[Q] Pioneer AVH-4000nex updated to support Android Auto

Hello Guys! I've seen a lot of frustrated guys out there that were disappointed that Pioneer won't update their 4000nex units to support Android Auto. I saw this posted and wondered if this guy can do it so quickly, surely someone here could accomplish the same. I'm tempted to purchase his solution. Anybody have any thoughts as to whether this is safe?

this would be pretty freaking rad. the two head units from what everything is pointing to, are identical aside from the software. i would like to believe this is legit. i have been eye balling a 4000. the android auto would be a nice feature to have but it is lame on their part to not do a firmware update.
I have loaded it into my head unit. The program loads but right now there is no audio for android auto. Im waiting for an update and will give it a try at that point. I wish I were savy enough to know what to do but unfortunately I'm not. I have the firmware and can upload it if anybody who is interested wants to take a look.

I designed something myself as for a firmware interface to work with the 4000NEX. If you don't mind though, I'd like to take a look at what you have to see if mine is exactly mirrored or a bit different. Two things I noticing here is when it was posted he said he couldn't get the bluetooth to work for it, which I have rerouted a fix for that. But as for the audio not working for android auto, I want to see what is different on what you have and what I have. Mine worked fine when trialled, but it could be because of my current system already having bluetooth in the truck. If you don't mind, can you upload it here or email it to me? jared.balsor at gmail dot com
It would be great to get AA on the 4000NEX.
Hopefully someone here can get the firmware to work 100%. I'd be willing to donate.

Yeah same here. Pisses me off that I only bought that head unit a year ago, and they updated the firmware for apple carplay but not android auto.
Firmware for NEX4000 to make it useful, please
I'm so irritated at Pioneer i could spit. I've updated to 1.11, got the MHL HDMI to usb adapter for my Galaxy Note 4, and then found out that i bought the crappy 4000NEX. The 4100? Son of a *****.
So, sell me 1 of your lauded & much praised firmware please, good sir. ☺
