Emergency calls only aleatory on 4.3 Stock - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
I really need your help for a problem that i have.
I was on 4.3 stock with Boeffla Kernel, everything is good, i installed after CM11 to test it and after a day, i flashed back on XEF (XXUGNJ2 / ) 4.3 Stock ROM with Philz recovery only, all other things are Stock.
My phone work fine, but after an aleatory time, my phone is on "Emergency calls only", i must enter on Airplane mode and back to network mode.
My phone work normally, but after hours, it went back to "Emergency calls only"....
I reflashed XXUGNJ2 again with Philz WIPE, and the same problem, the phone works and after a time it became on "Emergency calls only"..
I search on the net, and found there is a patch Modem/Kernel which resolve this, i flashed them and WIPE ALL, the same problem, it work a time and went back to "Emergency calls only"...
Do you have an idea to resolve my problem?

Try to flash another modem and see how it works.
Be sure you flash a modem compatible with your region and carrier.

Thanks for your reply.
Being on xxugna8, i already flashed XXEMG4, and the same problem, worked a while and fall on "Emergency calls only".

Any help please?

Have you done a clean install when you switched to CM11? I would be you I would do again a clean install of rom+gapps+kernel+modem and see how it goes.

I didn't stay along time in CM11 to see if the problem is there in CM11, but i want to stay in Stock ROM.
I always install with a clean install (Wipe with Install a new ROM in Philz Recovery).

SIM cantread after Nandroid backup :(

Hi guys,
I wonder if someone can help me with this... really annoying problem!
I was checking out various roms i downloaded here, started with 4.0 aokp which was great, then gave cyanogen 4.2 a try, but then i wanted to go back to Aokp 4.0 cause it seemed to run faster
Now first thing, i couldnt get rid of cyanogen (no offense intended) cause when i wiped all data, cache and dalvik it just took aokp a few seconds to install from CWM recov, that doesnt seem right, right?
Then installed GAPPS, but still it ran on Cyanogen
So, i did a NANDROID backup, which made my phone like before i started with all this..
THIS IS WHERE IT WENT WRONG?
now it just wont read my simcard
i tried my sim in my old phone and that works fine, so the problem is in my phone somehow
is it something about the radio settings specific to my phone and network?
how can i change these settings and are they specific for my provider?
you guys always helped me out so i hope you know what i mean..

I've exactly the same problem.
Are your wifi and BT still OK ?
Is your IMEI (*#06#) still the same as under the battery ?
Was your phone locked ? Did you buy it with a SIM ?
My problem appeared after flashing several different modems/RILS : I got no error warning anywhere, but after reboot, I completely lost my netwerk connection. (no voice calls , no mobile data)
At first I thought a bad RIL driver, so I restored my Nandroid backup from the day before (after wipe cache/wipe dalvik/format system), but still no connection with the netwerk. and can't even make voice calls.
Then I was in panic !
After this I did a complete factory reset, and wiped/formatted cache/dalvik/system/data/SD-card and went in to download mode. After loading a stock ELLA for my region using Odin, still no connection. I was also never asked to enter the PIN-code for my SIM to unlock it.
Damned, this is an embarrassing situation : I can't think of loosing my SG3 for several weeks if I have to send it to Samsung !!
Mu phone is bought without SIM, so it's not SIM-locked.
My Wifi and BT are still OK, my IMEI is also still OK.
Any other ideas, please ?
How do I come in the service mode for the Radio ?
This is the way my netwerk is indicated : a circle with a stripe, much like the famous traffic sign.
Its fixed
So i have no idea how it eventually got fixed but if someone else has this problem, heres what i did:
Full wipe/factory reset blablabla all that
Did Nandroid restore again, put the AOKP ROM and GAPPS back on my phone
Installed ROM which was I9300CEDLI1
Used Odin to install latest CWM, which was already on there, but still
Then booted into CWM and installed .zip of course
This still went suspiciously fast since the very first time it took way longer, that worried me but,
Installed GAPPS again,
Rebooted... IT ASKED FOR MY PIN NUMBER!! hell yes that was what i wanted!
So now it again sees my simcard in there, so now i can make calls end use intnet again!
Still i think it started after the nandroid backup for some reason, or it may have been because of wiping Dalvik Cache?
I have no idea if that even makes sense

Good to hear your problem is fixed !
I'm still not able to make voice calls or enable mobile data : "insert SIM card" is the message I get.
I did already twice a full reset/factory restore and flash a stock ROM using PC Odin, but no avail.
Today I did a restore from my EFS folder using a backup that a had made before the problem appeared, but no avail.
BTW, did you also have the same indication from network status as on my screen-shot ?
Any idea what else I can try ?
I'm getting desperate .....
I'm having the same trouble after doing backup in TWRP when boot up it doesn't recognize the sim card.
I've flash CM10.1 and it only work after i remove the card e put it back on.
Try to see if it something about the simcard.

Rui

[Q] Problem with modem

I think I have a problem with my modem. Whenever I try and make a call it just gets stuck on dialling, no tone. When I try and ring the phone the dialing phone makes the correct sound but my phone doesn't ring. I can send and receive texts.
I'm running CM10.1 with Siyah-Dorimanx kernel 9.39. Baseband is XXLS9
Are there any suggestions?
I ran a backup in Cwm, full wipe, flashed stock ROM. Checked that phone calls were Ok.
Then installed CM10.1, calls still Ok. Restored backup and calls were broken.
Flashed stock, then CM10.1 this time advanced restore just data and everything seems to be Ok. Don't think I'll mess with modem again!

[Q] Cant make calls, MDK custom Rom HELP PLEASE

The problem. Every time I try to make a call through either the phone app or google voice. When ever I try I get a black screne and my phone locks up. The call goes through. But there is no sound on either end. The only way to unfreeze my phone is for the other end to hang up.
I'm currently running TWRP 2.6.3.0 custom recovery.
I'm currently using the Dirty Unicorn du_jftlevzw_2013-10-16
I tried Hyperdrive first. Which was working fine for a while. Then every time I rebooted I would get stuck on the Samsung Custom paddle lock screen. Which would require me to re-install it, so I could use my phone. Obviously this was not working for me.
Then I tried Dirty Unicorn w/ the 20130813 gapps. Everything was working great until I realized I couldn't make any calls.
Then I tried installing JellyBeans_B7. Still had the same problem. everything working fin, except for the fact that I cant make calls. Exact same behavior.
When back to Dirty Unicorn.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I Odin'ed back to the factory image. seems to have fixed the problem

Did you flash a non-holos radio? Because I did and the same thing happened to me, I flashed the me7 non-holos to my mdk phone.... bad idea. To fix it I flashed the mdk non-holos. Now I just flash radios without the non-holos.bin and all is good.

[Q] Signal problems after installing custom ROM

Hello,
I've been facing this problem for days now, tried almost everything and still no luck, so I'm sorry if it's been asked before, but I'm truly hopeless.
Right now, my SGS3 works only on stock ROMs. Every time I try to install a custom ROM (JB or KK) I have a problem with the signal - either baseband, IMEI and everything is "unknown", or everything is good (IMEI not "0049...", there are full correct APNs) but it still displays the "error while searching for networks" message.
Fortunately (as I realized on other threads),I can always go back to square one, flash a stock 4.3, with no problems with IMEI or anything, but, you know, stock sucks.
I tried installing every modem I ran into, but nothing helped. Is there a secret step from stock to custom on samsung devices I'm skipping (I'm an ex-nexus user...)?
+1
Same problem, no solution until now

When you install a custom rom, based on samsung 4.3, do you have emergency calls only/no network?
If yes, install Boeffla kernel 5.3/or beta 5.4 because Boeffla is a patched kernel i.e. it can read patched modems, and then install a patched modem .
From the on you will have your network (no emergency calls/no network problem) and signal should be good.
But first backup your EFS and store it on a very safe location, you have ann app for that, k-Tool on Playstore (requires root).

CyanogenMod Installer problem

Hello everyone! So, my problem started when I tried to install the latest ROM on my i9100 with CyanogenMod Installer which failed. After the instalation on the boot appeared the yellow triangle and didn't start, automatically sending me to CWM menu. After that I manually installer the 10.1.3 ROM Stable (jb 4.2.2) which worked fine. After that I updated from the Settings the latest ROM (CM 11, kitkat 4.4.4). After some hours my phone started to turn off by itself (I was just finding my phone turned off). I flashed the M8 ROM and same thind happened. Now I re-flashed the CM 10.1.3 and after one day it started to turn off by itself again. I need some help with the yellow triangle and some explanations with the "turn off" problem. Sorry for my english. Thank you!
never had this "turn off" problem you have but usually you have to wipe before downgrading android versions otherwise you get boot loops
I always wiped before flashing
@UkUrapp the triangle means you flashed your phone with odin, you can remove this triangle but its risky and i dont think that you wanna remove it. Im finding it actually nice i dont know but if that turn on/shutdown issue happens even when going back to cm10.1.3 with full wipe then could you try a different modem if there is any flashable i don't know i don't have this device anymore for 1 year. Maybe you can try to flash stock and see if this issue still appears.
I didn't flashed the phone with Odin. I removed the triangle with Triangle away [.apk] hoping that it will fix the auto shutdown problem. It didn't. I don't know what you mean "different modem", can you be more specific? I updated to CM 11 kk 4.4.4 [Nightly] from Cyanogenmod Updates (in the phone settings) and the turning off problem is the same. Then I taught the battery it's broken because of flashing and I used the Battery Calibration .apk and nothing. I will flash the stock but I don't know where to find it. Can you help me with a link? Thank you!
[I'm from Romania, sorry for my bad english]
