Ok so after the Lollipop update my battery life has been less than stellar. On kit kat i would usually have around 40% battery life left at the end of a day with medium use but now with lollipop I'm ending the day closer to 15% with the same use. This is usually with between 2 and 3 hours SOT. The only thing I've noticed that is any different is google services seems to be using more battery than normal, not a ton but more. Also i cant seem to get it to go into low battery use in location setting, it always stays on high battery use even when in battery savings mode. Anyone with thoughts on this?
Have you tried using greenify? It stops apps from refreshing in the background and if you buy the pro version you can stop system apps from refreshing. You may want to try this xposed module it will go and save major battery. I personally am on barepop (I uninstalled some extra apps though) and have both apps running in the background and I it takes about 10 minuates for the battery to die by even 1%. By the time I wake up and use my phone with heavy use all day long (6am-4pm est) I get home without about 60-65% of battery. You may also want to turn things off when your not using them such as data/nfc and bluetooth.

I am not rooted and am trying to stay that way, at least for a while. I do have greenify but only the free version so it is kind of limited. I haven't found any wakelock detectors that work without root so i cant get any real specifics on whats causing the drain. I just find it strange that google services will not go into low battery mode.

Nothing in there for anything related to Google services. I don't know why it wont go into low battery usage, i checked all my Google settings and still cant figure it out.
Ok, well today i decided to just uninstall updates for google services, reboot, install the updates, and reboot again. And after dealing with the phone telling me there was no sim card twice, everything seemed to go back to normal, no more high battery usage from google services.

I've checked the data usage meter and it shows that Google Services is doing something with data constantly. It's not a lot of data (500MB over 7 days) but it's enough to keep my "H+" showing data uploading and downloading all the time, which is not normal behaviour.
As a result of this, the battery is running dry. Even when plugged in, the charging isn't keeping up and eventually the battery runs out, and I have to leave the phone off for a bit to recharge.
I have since turned off background data for Google Services, and I'm hoping this works, although I don't know what I'm going to lose in terms of functionality as a result of doing that.
But I'd like to know what the problem is and why this has suddenly happened as it's really bugging me. Hoping someone else has experienced this. I have searched for other threads on this topic, all refer to battery drain but I don't seem to have the same issue. If I look at my battery stats I'm not seeing Google Services at the top of the list like others. Mine is more to do with data.

I cant answer why or what it is, but one thing I did notice wasted a lot of battery for me (other than google now of course) was the google backup. You know the one you tick when you first go through the set up wizard on the phone? "Backup this device with google".

if you have various system or user apps wakelocks, first do a monitoring it with your favorite battery monitor and analysis tool to details.
gmail, google services, backup, sync contacts, other syncs google plus, etc, localization services, call direct or indirectly other apps, bringing more wakelocks (partial, kernel, network - your case I think) ... and more battery drains ... facebook is a classic example ... hungry app

Bear with me. If you are an expert on android maybe you can help me out here. First off, I have researched the crap out of this problem and still been unable to fix it, so YES, I did search before making this thread.
I am on a stock, rooted Verizon Galaxy S4. I have been watching my battery consumption carefully via the integrated battery settings menu, battery stats plus and wakelock detector apps. Mainly, there is a program or set of programs that typically is called "Google Services" that according to the integrated battery menu is consuming anywhere between 20-45% of my battery, sometimes more than the screen on time! My battery life is around 48hrs with 10hrs screen time but that is on the massive zerolemon 7500mah battery which I just bought, so I am not sure if that is above, below or just average (i.e. I have no real standard by which to judge).
Like I said I have read probably every thread about this problem with remedies such as; disable location, turn off google now, turn off google maps reporting, uninstall updates for google play/google play services/google framework settings, turn off google sync etc. I have tried them ALL, none seem to work. I have a feeling the issue is perhaps more in depth and above my head.
It gets more complicated. Although the stock android integrated battery menu reports it as using a massive amount of battery, the other two apps I mentioned above do not even report it, or at least not under a name that I regonize (perhaps that categorize it under a different process?). Under them screen time is by far the highest consumer.
So what to make of this? Is it a false report that the stock integrated android battery menu is reporting, and thus something to disregard? I doubt that because there are many other threads out there of people with the same problem and questions I have. But It's also not like my battery drains within hours. For instance, today I have been off the charge for 12.5hrs, with 3hrs and 40min of screen time and have 63% remaining on the 7500mah zerolemon extended battery.
If you can help, please do. If this is indeed a major drain I would really like to fix it.
EDIT: Maybe I should have posted this in the general S4 forum?
Make sure you're running the most recent version of the Play Store, version 4.1.10. There was an issue with the previous version that was causing battery drain. Just do a search for the most recent play store .apk file and install it with the package installer.

Yes! I saw this recommendation a million times. I was runing 4.1.6, which without much thought I assumed was newer than 4.1.10 (I interpreted the .10 to be a one instead of ten). But after your post it "clicked" for me, so I manually updated the play store and will see after the next charge whether it worked. Thanks again.

If it were me, I would next try flashing the no-wipe stock image from open1your1eyes0. I'm pretty sure that will fix your issue while leaving your apps & settings intact. It'll save you a lot of time and aggrevation as well.
I've been having a similar problem as well where every day google services seem to take up about 40% of my battery... I just updated to 4.1.10 play store and unchecked the Wifi & Mobile Network location in location setting yesterday evening. let see if this helps... today 3 hrs with no Google Services in my battery reading yet...

Well, I may have spoken too soon with my above post. As soon as I unplugged my phone earlier today I saw google services eating up the majority of my battery. But of course that only accounted for 1 or 2 minutes as I had just unplugged it. As the day progressed the amount used by google services did go up but not by as much as it previously had. So perhaps the update of google play store to 4.1.10 did work.
Currently, after being off the charger for 8hrs with about 1hr of screentime google services has used up 9% of the battery, which although not where I'd hoped is still much better than before.

well thats progress. As for myself, 1hr 27m screentime and 1 hr 40m voice call and off the charger for 10hrs 30mins. currently the battery is at 65% with no Google Services usage in sight. This is with Wifi, bt, and gps all enabled.
Go to data usage and tap on EACH program you do not need to have running background data and disable the background data. I only leave things unchecked like google play and services, email, just only a couple of things needed to get your messages. I freeze maps untill i need them and only have google location service on and gps and VZW off obviously. I only have email sync once an hour and only work email as i manually check for personal email.
Do that and your google services will behave. Android System never goes above 2% and Android OS is never above 5% unless im using wifi and such then it might creep up to about 9% after a few hours. Nothing else is ever above 9% unless its screen or device idle or cell standby.
Well, according to the stock battery report google services is still eating up my battery at 34% usage at 2h 19m. I unplugged 13h ago and used 2h 42m of screen time and am down to 28%.
BatteryStatsPlus reports google services as "Google Account Management", and although it says it has used the same time (2h 19m), it reports it as having used 6.42%. So I wonder if this is an issue of the stock battery report being too high, or whether google services really does consume 34%?
I'd really prefer to not start flashing things or wiping the phone. I hate messing with it and although I rooted it that is as far as I'd like to go. But that google play store 4.1.10 update didn't work.

Not sure but I think its a Kit Kat issue. I recall having more battery life on JB than on Kitkat with my S4.
There are lots of things you can do.
System Settings
•WiFi - change sleep policy from ALWAYS (staying on) to either "Only when plugged in" or "never"
•Account Sync - under my Google account(s) I only keep CONTACTS and GMAIL checked...the rest unchecked
•Motions, Smart Features, Gestures, Air - Turn ALL of this crap off!
•Animation Scaling- In Developer Options - I use these settings: Window Animation=OFF/ Transition Animation=0.5x/ Animator Duration=0.5x
In-App Settings
•Play Store - In settings, change Auto-Update Apps to Never...you can do this manually from time to time. If not, it'll just always scan.
•App Ops - This can be a little tedious, but go through your apps (especially under Location) and turn location off on whatever you think doesn't need it! You may want to test out each app to be sure it is functioning properly before you move on to the next app. This makes it much easier to go back and enable it again if you see its needed. Most of the Google apps are gonna need it.
Freeze or Uninstall System Apps
•Check out my thread on which system apps you can remove here

This is good info thanks. I am doing most of it such as Greenify, etc. Wakelock Detector I have no clue how to use though. I open it up and its like chinese to me any tips on using that? I did not realize the play store is always scanning for updates...interesting. The only thing I see disturbing is that security is the thing I see most used even after shutting the phone off and turning it back on in Usage Timelines. I am rooted and Knox is disabled so im wondering what is causing the high usage on this.

WakeLock detector works great for exactly what you're trying to figure out. Check out the WakeLock guide, it'll show you exactly what it's role is. Once you have it installed, you will sometimes see a scissors icon in Greenify when you have something listed under NOT hibernating or pending...click it! You'll see the option for Greenify to "cut-off" the process chain...this prevents further wakeups from what had specifically started up the process. I highly recommend you take a look at gsam battery monitor (I think that's the name), it will also give you details on which processes are killing your battery.
I am not positive but I think you can disable that security process without any issue. You may want to Google that though.

Short answer...WakeLock only detects, you decide what you need to STOP from there. But there are apps that can utilize WakeLock to detect those battery killers and stop, freeze or remove processes or apps for you...such as Greenify.
Also, I can't stress enough how worth it it is to buy Greenify's experimental features, as it will allow you to get deeper into the whole Greenifying thing!! Hell yes it does:good:

However I am still seeing this Security Process running at about 6% and about 82.45 MB. I am not really experiencing any drain when the phone is sleeping.

Can u post a screenshot of gsam's monitor section? Its the part that has the list of usage...looks similar to the battery monitor screen in Android settings.
I've had the phone since the beginning of December. Right since then, I have had battery drain no matter what. In the first days I experienced it even overnight, I am pretty sure with airplane mode activated....
Later on, I wiped the cache from the recovery mode, didn't fix it. I used that 'GService fix' kind of magical app that everybody said it fixed their problems...it didn't fix mine. I performed a hard reset and I did not restore the google account apps, instead I manually downloaded only the apps that I really needed.
There is no apparent pattern on when the battery drain starts: I would find my phone hot and very rapidly discharging (if not already discharged), battery temp hot and cpu temp hot. I disabled all google now functions, I disabled GPS, at first I disabled only some google functions (kept only google keep, calendar and contacts on automatic sync)....but then a couple days ago I disabled the whole automatic sync. Battery still drained without using the phone.
I had read that one reason why google service would take so much battery would be having multiple accounts, or having some problems related with google play games and its sync. I do have games installed on my phone, and they require google play games to work, so that one is installed on the device but I also read that 'people details' under google account settings is relevant to the google play games sync. And in any case as I already said, the whole automatic sync has been disabled in the past 2 days, yet today the phone drained the battery while in my pocket.
I cannot understand what is going on. I am using GSAM to try to monitor things, but till now I have only been able to understand when was the battery drain starting and when was it stopping. I never found the reason. If I choose 'since screen off' on GSAM, I can see that it is again google play services taking most of the battery.
I can see with those softwares (3c toolbox, GSAM) some things, many of them I don't understand and some of them I don't even know how to set. It's pretty useless to know that suddenly my cpu goes high in clock and keeps 90/100% load if I don't know why. There is no rogue app, otherwise it would show on top, right? First screenshot: I had the phone on my desk since 2 days or so. Wifi on, no gps, no sync. I went out around 12:00 and that seems to be exactly the time when the battery drain started. If I choose in GSAM 'since screen off', google services is on top of the list. Unfortunately this cannot be very much relate with mobile data or so, because I have experienced battery drain even with airplane mode or at home with wifi enabled. Second screenshot: I don't know what to make of those packages......
I know that other people with the Axon 7 had the same problem, I googled a lot, didn't solve anything.....and I also know that anyway on any phone this can happen. I had very randomly the same problem on the Nexus 5 but never gave it too much attention because it wasn't too bothering, it was happening every once in a while, but with this Axon 7 I am touching it every 10 minutes to see if it's burning hot or not, constantly afraid to take it out of the pocket and find it with 10% left of battery.....
Had battery drain issues and exchanged my phone under warranty. Now all is good.

Assuming you're rooted, install betterybatterystats (search for it on xda). Use the phone as you normally would. After 6-12 hours, look at the results. It should give you an idea of what's keeping the phone awake.
Here the same problem. Irregular at intervals of 1-2 days. New installation of Google Play services no change. Restart helps only a short time.

yes! same thing with me. Google Backup Transport process fires up and eats battery for no reason. Doesn't matter if backup is enabled or disabled, I also disabled appdata sync. I posted two or 3 times in this community group as well:

My plan: try to find a solution. Good that at least I nailed it to the process (google backup transport - gms.persistent etc etc) and can research from there. I already found tons of people who had the same problems with tons of different devices and even android version (just google com.google.android.gms.persistent battery drain and you'll find the forums full of threads....of course everybody fixed it in the most different ways, none of which worked for me till now).
2nd plan: wait for the nougat update at the end of the month and see what happens
3rd plan: change device (warranty).
I am aware it is not a hardware problem, it must be some loop in the sync (but it happens even with sync off) or a bug in google services.

5 days?? How much do you actually use the phone??
I don't know what was the cause. It was either a loop fail backup of google photos, or the update from B04 to B08 fixed it. No more drain, battery easily lasts 2 days without heavy use of the phone.

:laugh: 5 days without reboot. 2 days with one load. 8 hours display time at 24 usage.
All the US stock firmwares have the battery drain. It's usually google backup transport or google persistent gms. A reboot will fix it usually, but it will occur again later... Battery life is fine other than those 2. Let's hope lineage will be ok.
please help against an impending cwm restore/full install. ive went through a bunch of service killer apps like greenify, amplify, servicely, other battery savers. they just dont seem to be able to handle android os.
searching up some stuff and people do have issues. ive also tried clearing caches in recovery, but that seems to be daily as the draining pops back up within a couple of days.
i tend to turn off everthing except standard network because i only want phone and text to wake me up when im asleep, not emails, updates, statuses and whatnot. sometimes disabling their services wont do much as they can reactivate them later on.
usually im gappsless. but this time around i decided to also install greenify+donation. it works 'half' the times but services are alive and well.
so id like to make some requests. as ive said, im usually gappsless, so id prefer fully functional free alternatives. please suggest some for greenify and amplify.
