[Q] Possible to put navbar on bottom? - Kindle Fire HDX 7" & 8.9" Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

I was wondering if it was possible to put the navbar on the bottom while in landscape mode so my keyboard wont get cut off, I know there is a program to put this on the bottom but it hides it too, but I want it to show. Is this possible at all, I don't know how I google this as I get no "results" on what I am looking for.

Check out this. Not exactly what you were asking for but might provide a solution. Props to EncryptedCurse for surfacing.

Doesn't do anything at all, even with reboot. (Have Xposed installed.)

Very strange. Worked as described on my Thor running Nexus 2.0.5. Wonder if you have something else installed that's messing with your navbar.

I have stock Amazon, not HDX Nexus.

Navbar placement is tightly baked into Fire OS. Amazon probably stripped the phone and phablet UIs. If Phab7 (or similar tool) doesn't do it you may be stuck.

Tablet UI

Just for kicks (and because the half phone/half tablet ui really bugs me, takes up too much space with bars on both the top and bottom of the screen), I went ahead and built a 'stock' JB 4.2 AOSP rom for the N10 with the tablet UI enabled (thanks to the N7 thread on XDA for the modification details!). (Check out the attached image!)
It seems to work well, and it's a very simple mod (though I've hardcoded it to test it out) Would be nice if some of the future custom roms could come with an option to choose the UI at some point!
Here's the link to modifying the source to enable the tablet UI for any of the dev's out there interested:

Awesome.
Awesome. I can't wait to get mine (ordered yesterday).
Can the navigation buttons be flipped?
Does editing the LCD density in /system/build.prop not work for 4.2?
Can't you go back to full tablet UI with the app drawer button at the top? The empty hot keys navigation area looks strange. Also, you mentioned custom roms making it an option...doesn't Paranoid Android already do that?

Didn't try. I'm not a fan of that since it breaks other apps, this doesn't chance the density, so at least everything that would run stock should still run.

The launcher doesn't appear to have the app drawer by default (at the top of the screen), but if I install something like NOVA launcher, you get what you're looking for.
Paranoid does apparently have options to choose the ui mode, but I haven't seen that ROM for the n10 yet. Got a link to it???

I thought I heard that Tablet UI (via DPI change) wasn't possible as of 4.2

Yeah, simple changes to the order of buttons in the navigation_bar.xml file would change the order of those buttons.
As I mentioned, I'm just messing around with the AOSP code, and hope a 'real' rom will come out with the option to switch to tablet mode!

I don't think it's out for the N10 yet. Coming soon from what I read. I was just point out that the ability does exist in roms, it just needs to make it to the N10.

[MOD]AOSP enabled navbar - AOSP ROMS and GE only

To be clear, these will only work for AOSP ROMs and the GoogleEdition ROM.
Threw these together for myself. Love having the navbar but it is a pain to add every nightly I flash. So I threw this together. I made two versions. One simply adds the navbar and disables the capacitive menu and back buttons (with them active the navbar becomes nearly impossible to use) and triggers the navbar. Fear not, this mod triggers the in app menu overflow access and for that matter you could then create a menu on the navbar. I couldn't automate disabling the backlight so that will still need to be disabled via settings>advanced>sensors. I also made a version that changes the device DPI from 480 to 360 (my preferred DPI).
Download - AOSP_navbar_enabled.v3.zip
Base version above now allows OTA survival. Will reapply itself after each nightly.
Download - AOSP_navbar_enable_360dpi.zip
Download - AOSP_remove_NAVBAR.v3.zip
Here is the method to inject changed into the build.prop that I used (found here)
On the GoogleEdition ROM it does not support disabling the capacitive button backlights natively so the app from the following thread is needed
[APP] Google Edition ROMs - Disable Button Lights
Thanks a million times for this! I have been missing these! I am running beans rom and after installing getting system UI has stopped, also using nova, any information on getting this going would be great, thanks again!

Of course you are welcome to your opinion!! And in part I agree. That is why I run at 360dpi, that way it has less of an impact on the display. I know it is not for everyone, but choice is the spice of life.

Thanks for this. Is it possible to only activate the in app menu overflow without adding the nav bar? It's so much more intuitive to have that, rather than guessing whether or not the menu button will do anything within each app (the whole reason google got rid of the menu button in the first place).
I wish I knew how!! To be frank, when you enable the navbar and disable the capacitive buttons it activates the menu overflow within apps all by itself. Must be part of the navbar framework. But let me look into it. I MIGHT have an idea but it would be ROM specific, not a general mod like this. What ROM are you running or would like such a feature for?

I will try for the GE port, it should be an easy mod. These don't work on stock touchwiz as it doesn't have the needed framework for the navbar. For some reason Samsung gutted the navbar from their source

Oh it works very nice, but there are some cases (like tapatalk) where the menu would instead be within the navbar so this is not a capacitive menu replacement

Awesome job man. Now I just need to be able to set the physical home button to menu for short press and go full screen (no navigation lights) on long press. Think that is possible?

Navbar mods?

I love my Honor 6X. In fact, I've bought 3 of them in my household. The one thing that just drives me nuts though, is the spacing of the buttons on the navigation bar. I've searched and searched online and have not been able to find any way to change it. I'm using the Lineage theme so the buttons are Pixel-like, but I want them spaced out like stock Android instead of so close together. Anyone have any way of doing this? I'm rooted with bootloader unlocked on stock EMUI 5/Nougat.
Thanks!
caseym
Hi caseym. Same here. I purchased 3 of them when the BB deal came out. I'm afraid that you would have to use a custom ROM to get the navigation keys at the spacing of your liking. You can change them with a theme and you can re-arrange them (settings/navigation key) but nothing beyond that, other than changing the resolution (settings/display/view mode). For my taste the current custom ROMs are not ready yet for my main phone though. I've replaced Moto G4 Plus' on which we ran the Invicta ROM (best rom for that phone). Once the custom roms for the 6X reach similar status I'd consider them.
cheers
So, you can choose to use an app like this https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-custom-navigation-bar-customize-t3590967 (no root, no Xposed required) or you can manual do that via adb, following the tutorial here https://www.xda-developers.com/how-...icons-or-re-arrange-the-buttons-without-root/

Whoa sorry, both methods are a pain to EMUI, didn't noticed that. Well, check this one then https://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/themes-apps/mod-navbar-tuner-enabler-t3615628 it requires substratum, but it should work on many OEMs Roms.
Thanks all for the suggestions. I've looked at some of these options and found exactly what derausgewanderte pointed out. I'll try the substratum mod.
Unfortunately, the substratum theme doesn't work. Try to enable it after installation, it says I have to reboot phone, reboot and it's disabled again. Guess we're stuck with what we have. I don't want a custom rom...battery life on this phone is absolutely amazing and I don't want to chance messing with that. Thanks for the responses.

[QUESTION] How to truly disable the NavBar on Oreo?

Greetings!
I've been searching for a way to truly disable the NavBar on Samsung Oreo, I don't want to just hide the NavBar, I want to truly disable it but I haven't found a way to do this on Oreo yet.
Can anyone help me find a way to achieve this???

Without root
Is there a way to do it without a root? Like this used to work https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/how-to/getting-rid-galaxy-s8-navigation-bar-t3659742
EDIT
I think I have found a solution. Please check my later comment on this thread "https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/how-to/getting-rid-galaxy-s8-navigation-bar-t3659742/post76057934#post76057934"

I always ended up spacing out space under the keyboard in the other older method anyway so didn't really notice. I find it's more natural to type a bit higher up.
If it's helped please do check out my thread I made on the method and thumbs it up for others
Hey everyone, I actually found a way to remove status bar completely and not have the space under the keyboard. It requires ADB so you'll need a computer with ADB drivers and us debugging enabled on your device. Depending on your situation (what kind of navigation you want to use; OnePlus gestures, Xhome bar etc) this might not work. I currently use OnePlus gestures. There's a setting you enable to remove the navigation bar but you need to give the app ADB access. You'll as well need an app to enable immersion (I use systemui tuner) The result is no navigation bar. This is the only thing I've got working well for me and OnePlus gesture app can be customized a lot.
I hope this helped, and if anyone needs clarification I'll give it.

Notification Bar Customization?

Has anyone been able to figure out a way to customize the notification bar? I'm looking to get rid of the battery bar since I'm using AccuBattery & would prefer to use its battery indicator.
Would also be nice to get the network speeds on the bar. As well as having a seconds indicator on the clock.
try gravitybox. some settings might not work, but most do. If that doesn't have exactly what you're looking for, try the flat style bar indicators module, that one worked for me as well.

Thanks for the reply! Few follow-up questions: GravityBox is an Xposed module/app, right? And to get the Xposed framework installed, I'd need root? Lastly, how did you root your ROG?

Yes, gravitybox is an xposed module, and yes you'd need root. I kinda followed that guide but I can simplify it I think. after you've unlock the bootloader:
1. install magisk app
2. tap install
3. Select normal install
4. reboot when prompted
5. check you have root with root checker
6. install xposed app
thats what worked for me when upgrading to magisk 18. When I first installed magisk (17.3), I had to get boot.img from my firmware version, place it on the phone, and when selecting install, I had to choose patch boot image and browse to the .img.
Have you come across any issue with xposed yet? Right now that's the most compelling reason to root my phone.

I've tested gavitybox O and snapfreedom both work to some degree depending on which setting you use, as some will just completely make your phone non functional. but then other settings work fine.
youtube adaway also works but causes random youtube fc's every so often.
Some other modules Ive tested are flat style toolbar which did nothing, xstana which works (but I didn't think I needed it personally), and that one thats supposed to let you downgrade apps whose name I'm forgetting right now. Yea that one did nothing either.
I also have viperFX and xHifi in magisk.
To be fair, I think, most of the things we would use these modules for are already features built into the phone. overclocking is so niche. I know since I've been doing it for 23+ years. Thats a feature built right in. on a phone. night mode used to be one, as well as mapping gestures, battery management, and so many other things. IMO, way to go Asus! (although next time don't make it such a dust magnet! I already have some tiny specks under my camera glass somehow?)
Finally rooted. Though Gravity Box O didn't work, Flat Style Bar Indicators was perfect for what I need. Thanks for the suggestion.
