Repart.img does not complete to green checkmark - Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet

Hello everyone,
Any helpful suggestions are appreciated and will try my best to follow all instructions. Still a bit of a noob though.
I have gone through many posts and threads, tried many different zip files and writing .img files and wanted to ask for help.
I have a barnes and noble tablet 8gb BNTV250 which I got a few years ago. I had CM7 on it and had been working fine until I decided to try and run kindle app on it. No bueno. So I wanted to upgrade CM, didn't work out. Long story short is I have CWM 5.x.x.x and it can boot through micro sd card to it, but it will not load any zip files.
I also did wipe a few partitions thinking they might be at fault but no luck.
I would boot it there (to CWM), take out micro sd card, place CM-7-TEAM-B-BETA1.zip file to try run it, says it loads but when I reset the nook nothing happens.
Have also tried burning repart.img to microsd card and this is what I get...the checklight never comes on and then a screen says it will shut off and it does. I think if it completes loading it will be okay (as I had this happen to me once before years ago).
Any thoughts? Here are some pictures of what I am talking about. The first image is the repart loading, then a screen stops it from completing and shuts down. Then I have a n when I try to power up that is stuck.
Thanks guys.
PS have been to raywaldo's site, and a few other sites on the interweb. Nothing has helped so far.

So an update for all you guys in case this helps.
So I pretty much downloaded everything I could on all the "bricked" threads looking for a zip file that would work, or a written .img to my microsd that would boot it...and I found one!
Disclaimer is that I do not code and give full credit where it is due, but since I do not have the original post or thread on another tab, I believe I got it from the original xda CM7 thread. The file was named Team-B-CM7SD-Alpha_final.zip which I extracted to .img file and wrote it onto my micro sd card.
So I can only boot from micro sd, but it works great. If I try and take out the micro sd card the nook shuts off. I will continue to tinker when I can but am glad to have my nook back. Hopefully it helps other people out.

[Q]Brick - 8G Nook Tablet, any suggestions?

I just book the 8G nook tablet. I comes with 1.4.2 so from reading different threads I thought the it would be easier to root with 1.4.0 so I tried the 1.4.0 SDcard.
Ever since my tablet won't turn on. I even tried http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1470910 But no luck.
Any ideas or suggestions of what to try?

Will the unit still boot from the 1.4.0 sd card? If so, you could try to reflash that again. Otherwise, I would keep trying to hold down both of those buttons (without the sd card in) for even longer. I had some instances where I thought mine was bricked (I have the 16 gb model), but eventually it came around. No real rhyme or reason to it.
Bob
Well assuming by this thread that Adam's 1.4.0 Booted and trashed your system.... you'll either have to try taking it back in and playing real real stupid, like too stupid to program the vcr stupid, or you'll just have to wait until someone makes recovery for the 8GB nooks.
Let me explain, the Boot Loader files for 1.4.0 are designed to run for the 16GB devices only, it wasn't until 1.4.2 (which is available for both devices) that B&N modified the Boot Loader files to run on both 16GB and 8GB. Therefore when MLO tries to initiate memory it's trying to initiate for the 16GBs 1GB memory as opposed to the 512MB of the 8GB device, this will cause the device not to boot.
the boot sd methods for 16gb dont
even work for 8gb so how could you even mess anything up? you sure you removed sd card?

I'm guessing you had SD in there and connected usb cable, it attempted to boot form sd and locked up with nothing happening on screen. Just tried it on the 8gb that I have here (just opened box this minute)
If thats the case all you need do is remove sd card, remove USB cable and hold power for 15 seconds. Then wait a couple of secs and power it back on with the power button again. If like mine it will boot back up fine and isn't bricked.

Ok so there is a simple solution to this with the SD Root that is provided by Indirect. After you have a CWM SD Card by using winimaging (or what ever its called)take the MLO and the u-boot.bin from the 1.4.2 update package and place them inplace of the MLO and u-boot.bin on the SD Card. Once you have done that get the update.zip from B&N and flash that. That should fix most of your problems.
PS. The reson that he cannot get it to work is that the update.zip's uboot and MLO are form 1.4.0 which did not support the correct addressing.

I was about to do that but was also going to compile a new kernel. You reckon it will work without the new kernel do you? I best have a go

No nothing is in there, when you use the 1.4.0 SDcard it loads the update image and replaces the current image. I thought there would be check so it wouldn't put a bad image that wouldn't work in place but I guess there isn't any safety checks on the built in update firmware routine.

Are the new files posted yet with the correct addressing for the 8G? Or is there instructions on how to get them from clean 8G?
This is what I did to brick my NT. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1402190
Yes my NT is bricked, I have tried numerous times to shut it down (incase the screen was blacked instead of off) and turning it back on.
I have tried both the factory reset (power and home) and just the power button.
I as much as I can guess, when I did the firmware update above I messed up the internal booting. So I need to have the files for 8G so I can boot off of an SDcard.
I checked the B&N website if they had the 1.4.2 files (MLO and u-boot.bin) but they only have one updates file which I figure is for 16G.
Yup you're screwed take it into B&N and hope they'll replace it.
We have a working 8G SD boot!!!

Thanks to bauwks and AdamOutler I now have some life (not fully restore yet) but it is progress.
probably many others would like to know what you did
Just looking at a few other threads, I think several people have made the same mistake and are looking for solutions on this. If you can give some additional details as to what you had to do to get going again, it would be helpful.
It still isn't working, but we have the first step done which is getting the 8GB to boot off the SDcard, they are now working on the Ubuntu recovery SDcard.
I will post back here when there is any more progress.

I jast passed a copy of all the internal partitions onto Adam so you should now be able to completely restore you're 8GB NT back to stock. Or if you now have adb access via SD card I posted the files on the forum so you could quite easily restore the system completely yourself.

Unfortunately I don't know of any full images for SDcards that have be released yet for 8GB. I only know of the 2uboot which "crashes" when it reads the internal image to create the menu.
If anyone can help me get something else to work like maybe CWM that would be appreciated.
I'm out all day today (uk and I'm on way to work) but I'll happily help you later when I'm home.
HELP!!!
i was attempting to downgrade the software back to 1.4.0 with the acclaim download and my nook tablet went to black screen. now the only thing it does is occasionaly bing when i plug it to the computer. i cant tell if the thing is on or off. What do i do?
send it back to b&n and tell them it won't boot. that what I did and they gave me a new one. if you search thru the forum, you'll see that I missed the warning too and bricked. posted a warning after that and you missed it too.
Damn google search and my lazy ass, went straight for the fix.

[Q] Bricked Nook Tablet Assistance

I have an 8GB Nook Tablet and made the foolish mistake of attempting to try and root it with acclaim-update.zip. Now my Nook will no longer boot and I've tried every unbricking method available. No progress was made.
I was a bit too eager to eager and rushed headfirst into it without researching it more thoroughly. If there's no fix for it, then that's fine. I just wanted to run through ever resource possible before giving up on it. I have spent the past few hours scouring the internet and coming up with little to nothing.
Have you tried booting CM7 from sdcard?
What things have you tried to make it boot?

Shouldn't you just be able to put the unmodified acclaim_update.zip on your sdcard? It should work and fix your nook. When you put the sdcard in, make sure the device is off, and then connect it to the power adapter to get it to turn on
IF its completly dead/ erased boot erea then your only option will be jtag.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/64885133/bn_142_factory_recovery.zip
put that image on a sd card and boot by plugging in the usb cable into the charger

So far I've tried the Ubuntu method of unbricking it, factory reset, and booting with the 1.4.2 zip file to return it to factory settings. None of them have worked.
But I'll try CM7 and see if it works.
Am in the the same shoes... got a bricked NT 8GB... looking forward to restoring 1.4.2...
attempts to restore the firmware to factory:
Cyanoboot + altboot + B&N 1.4.2
Followed guide here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1562130 , using (a) the img from dropbox and (b) nooktablet_1_4_2_update.zip from B&N. No luck. The process stops on the initial screen on cyanoboot, where it shows 'Loading (sd)...'. I don't even get to enter the menu that shows the boot options.
flashing_boot + B&N 1.4.2 update in ext3 partition
Next I downloaded the img link above, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24912163&postcount=5 , no luck also, the tick appeared on the flash 'Installing new software' screen after 4 minutes. After I removed the mSD card, the NT did a data cleanse, and got an error message about 40% into the factory restore prompting me to contact B&N. It then goes into the reboot loop (this is where I am now).
Ubuntu unbrick
No luck. NT don't even boot up to mSD with the mSD card slotted in.
I've tried the above multiple times, downloading the files few times as well. Am still stuck in the reboot loop.
Would like to seek help from gurus here for pointers... Am stuck at this point.
Thanks alot!

Can you get to CWM using Indirect's NT-CWM-SD package from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1466583
Get a micro SD card, fire up gParted (or whatever partition manager), put a new MSDOS partition table on it. Then make a new FAT32 partition at the beginning of the disk. Set the boot and lba flags. Copy the contents of Indirect's zip onto the disk. Stick it in the NT. Hold power + n for 10 seconds and wait for the grey "n" to show up on the screen for a second. Then turn it on.
If that takes you to CWM, then you've got options.
using a properly formatted SD card should solve most issues.. its the great thing about the nook.
1.make sure your using a good SD card. sandisk 8gb class and up would be best
2. make sure you grab the 8gb nook cm7 image.
3. preferably use a component based card reader. by that i mean one other then a laptops.. the laptop ones tend to be picky and lots of people in the nook color days had issues and most were resolved by using a computer one over a laptop one
4. with the nook OFF plug the usb cable into the nook then into the usb port on a computer
check out stickies too

Negative. I wish you were correct but - in this case - you are not.
Your advice is probably appropriate for those who cannot get an SDCard to boot properly. However, the O.P. has a bricked device and his original post is most descriptive. His NT8 will not boot to the INTERNAL EMMC. (I have the same problem.)
There are several of us here on XDA who are not novices with this issue. The O.P. has listed the various steps that he has followed and they are much more involved than a simple SDCard format issue.
BTW, most formatting issues are when users are attempting to format with Windows. I use Linux exclusively and I can ALWAYS build a boot SDCard without issues.
Also in the same boot as the O.P.
I also am having this problem. Been going through it for mths now. I've tried every possible fix people could come up with. I have been talking to a youtuber albertwertz. he would like me to send in my nook tablet to him to fix and try out different things. I would like to but cant afford it at the moment. Dang I hope someone finds a fix for this or make a cm9 sd bootale img or something dont get me wrong i like booting cm7 from sd but is this all im subject too. HELP SOMEONE. what are these developers working on. lets get this fix my people. PS thanks for all you all hard work on all roms.
Lost Nook 1.4.0 partition
Hi, Lavero.
I think I may have accidentally deleted the default nook partition. I can still boot up via SDCard and goes into CM7. How can I recover those default partition? Do you have those commands within Terminal Emulator or any other options?
If I do not put in my SDCard, with power cable connected, the nook tablet 16GB keep rebooting. I still want to recover my Nook default OS so that I can repartition it the next time I go to BN.
Hope to hear from you. Thanks.

PLEASE HELP With CM9 Boot from SD Card

Ok, I've been at this 3 whole days now and I DO NOT KNOW what I am not doing right.
I have been following the directions that another member on here has been posting on his blog here.
I have been using the updated files from his blog post here and from this thread here.
Anyway. NO MATTER WHAT I DO, I can not get Cyanoboot to load up. I am using the proper tools to format the SD cards, I am creating the partitions correctly. I am making the SD partition bootable or active. I've done it all and to NO AVAIL. I Can't get it working.
Can anyone who has had success (and apparently there are some) doing this PLEASE give me a few steps. I am not Android Retarded, I understand a lot of this stuff, but I am LOST when it comes to this Nook Tablet and getting this to work. It didn't take me this much time to write my rom for my Razr. It's driving me insane.
I don't want to load CWM onto EMMC or flash a rom onto EMMC because this is my girls Nook and she doesn't want it messed with like that, she just want CM9 to boot from SD and to have the regular Nook software on the internal memory for normal bootups.. I know, I know but that's what I have to work with.
Hey, there's no need for profanity. He just wanted to point out something.
I made a boot able CM9 only card not too long ago, just with the instructions from @succulent's blog. It only took me a few minutes without trouble.
Any idea for where you are getting messed up?

I wish I knew. I've been following the directions to a T. Once, only once it booted to the cyanoboot screen and then went to the two android screen and hung. I rebooted the tablet and it booted right into nook software straight away. It's like I have some freak tab that won't take. I've tried 3 different sd cards too.

Well this certainly sounds like the exact problems users have with faulty SD cards. What brands and classes are you using?
And I think XDA has a pretty good reputation...
I've moved and cleaned this thread leaving only the relevant posts. Please do not use profanity against other members however wrong you feel they are. If you feel something is wrong, do not react just use the report button as that's what it's there for.

Stupid question - have you tried booting with the charging cable plugged in? (Or simply plug in the charging cable when Nook is off.) My nook will only reliably boot anything off SD when plugged in.
Apologies if I missed something obvious.
Just a thought...
Are you sure when you extracted from the ROM zip that the entire file was extracted? I had a problem when I made my CM7 card cause I ran out of memory on my hard drive and only part of the file was unzipped. It took me a while to realize this was the problem and I had the same hang symptoms you describe. Of course I have a really old computer with little hard drive and this is probably unlikely for most, but there you have it. Also something obvious and probably not relevent but r u sure you unzipped the ROM zip files before transferring the ROM files to sd card? I noticed in Succulents instructions that he says "copy" ROM to SD without giving specific instruction to unzip then use tool to transfer to SD card, not drag and drop copy....check your ROM file size, should be over or around 4GB, this might determine if you have full ROM file.
Ok, so noobie mistakes but I made them so just in case!
Also, you have to replace a file in the downloaded ROMS to make the ROMS SD compatible.....could your mistake be in that step?
Just some thoughts...hope you get there soon!

[Q] NT 8GB rooting issue

Ok, first off I want to give a big thanks to digixmax for all his help so far! His quick responses have helped me to stay somewhat calm even though I am extremely frustrated right now. I have tried several different ways to root and boot CWM and CM 10.X onto my NT the last few days and nothing seems to be working. I have tried http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1439630, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2098419, http://iamafanof.wordpress.com/2013/01/09/cm10-1-android-4-2-1-jellybean-sdcard-img-for-nook-tablet-0110/, and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1529553 all with no success. i have used different cards, usb cables, and ports. i have used mini tool partition manager, acronis, gparted on ubuntu live, and fedora core that i have dual loaded on my laptop. i have downloaded the same files from different sources making sure to keep them separated in case one image is corrupt. and i have tried the preloaded image and built my own files onto a partitioned card making sure the card was set to FAT32 primary active 0x0C LBA and that boot was flagged. if anyone else has a suggestion i am all ears. im not opposed to just rooting into the eMMC either if someone wants to point me in the direction of a link with CM7.X or newer. the last build that i did on my sdcard looked like this (attachment below )
im not sure if anyone will be able to tell me if i did something wrong, maybe by file size? if more info is needed let me know. thanks in advance!
It's unclear to me what you want to do. Do you want to run CM10.x from sd card or install it internally? Or juts root? "Root" does not mea installing an alternative ROM, so it would be good to know what you're after.
If you want to run from sd Iamafanof's images should work. Personally I prefer his Android 4.1. Try it:
http://iamafanof.wordpress.com/2012/11/18/cm10-0-jellybean-sdcard-img-for-nook-tablet/ (It was not among those you said you've tried)
If it's not working, come back with more info on what you actually do and what happens (or doesn't happen).
If trying to install internally that image from Iamafanof can be used as a bootable CWM sd card and you can install CM10.x from there.

i was trying to root and rom CMsomething. at this point i dont care how it happens so long as something happens. your right i havent tried booting CM 10 and was actually looking for the version you posted. i read it was a good ver of CM to run on the NT. something that just started happening this morning when i use win32diskimager as admin a box pops up saying File error an error occured while accessing the device. This usually means that something else is accessing the device, please close all applications and try again. Error 1. Incorrect function. not sure what this is about. anyways ill try CM10 from that link and let post back later. thanks!
Make sure any file explorer is closed. That's what usually prompts that error for me. (I insert my card adapter, and the file explorer tries to access it.)

ok that helped some. its now saying write successful again. i tried the first link you gave me for iamafanof and that didnt work either, it still booted straight to stock. i guess im going to try flashing it to the internal memory. i cant believe how much trouble this is giving me, ive never had near this much trouble rooting and flashing with any phone ive ever touched. with the phones i may have been down a day or two trying to find a solution but today is going on day 4 or 5 that i have been trying to do this. time to try an alt route i guess. quick q, if i were to try and downgrade firmware from 1.4.3 do you think that that would help? has anyone tried this?
Having it installed internally is so much more convenient!
But before you give up on booting from sd, have you tried turning the NT off, inserting the sd card, and then plug it in to the charger? That usually gets even troublesome devices to boot from sd.
Edit: Version of stock firmaware makes no difference at all.

ok thanks i was hoping it would make some kind of difference. i have tried booting the NT with the power button, with it off insert sd and then jump start it with my stock cable and other usb cables. i have tried different usb ports on my computer with the cables and still nothing. i have been reading for days and trying everything. ive looked on xda, tabletroms, as well as many other sites that have dev support for the NT and rooting. thats why its so frustrating. im done i think with trying to boot off of the sd card. just going to have to start researching doing it by internal memory. i dont really care either way if i keep the stock software i think i would just be happy with even an early version of froyo or eclair at this point lol. if anyone cares to post links on rooting and installing roms on the eMMC or has any other suggestions about booting from the sd im open for suggestions. thanks guys for your help so far.
You say you've tried different ports on the computer but I told you to connect it to the charger. And also, just to make sure, you do use a class 4 card? SanDisk seems to be the preferred brand.
And I've already posted a link to my instructions.
If you can't boot from SD card any modification will be difficult so you need to get that part sorted.
Edit: And I also take it you are absolutely sure you have a Tablet and not a Color? Model 250A. I ask because it's not uncommon people mix them up.

[Q] Nook tablet 16g cant boot off of the sd card

Hi
I have been trying to run CM10 or any mod on my nook.
The problem is that I have tried every possible way to boot it off the sd card, but all in vain. it always boots normally to stock nook.
I tried everything listed in : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1997459 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1515761
Nothing worked.. can anyone pls help me? This tablet is useless without CM :crying:
some update
also I tried different sd card.. now I can boot off of the sd card but ONLY while tethering.. I searched on google and seems its a common problem with many models.. is there any fix? I couldnt find.. been searching for last two days..
Guys pls reply.. :/
If you've got one of those that needs to be connected to power to boot from SD it is what it is. Either you install CM10.x internally and never have to boot from SD again or live with it.
And FWIW, that way of booting is clearly outlined in the posts you said you had tried "everything" from and using SanDisk class 4 is also what's almost always suggested, especially if people have trouble booting to SD.

hi, thanks for the reply. In that case I think i'll go with internal installation.
But just to be honest, I did try sandisk class 4, that didn't work. I tried 2-3 other cards too, none did, not even by tethering. That's why I said I tried everything. Then I put in one of my other nook tablets sd card I was using to boot on that tablet (and that one is samsung class 4 8g). That worked but that too only with tethering. And as soon as that worked I put it here as update.
I really appreciate ppl taking out time on this community to help us amateurs. Thanks again
See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=37515697&postcount=31 under heading "Making a Bootable Recovery SDcard" for pointers on making a SD card bootable.
thanks for directing me to that page.
I did see a comment on correcting making the sd card to avoid loading into stock. I'll try those steps today. But, as the writer said there as well that there are some NTs which will load into SD card ONLY if powered on using a USB. Seems there have been no solution yet for such NTs.
Thanks a lot for replying, I'll try to follow the steps hoping mine isn't one of those stubborn NT. :good:
Many NTs can only boot off SD when tethered, the guide I referenced is meant to help creating bootable SD cards and not to solve the tethering requirement for these NTs.
Found a way out !!!! Might help ppl here
Hi all,
As I reported earlier mine NT was one of those which wont boot off of the sd unless tethered. I did many things but I THINK (can't be certain) that I did what is mentioned my the guy PHIL here in the below link and it solved it (for until now, for my last 3-4 boots)
Basically, just remove the cord once you see the N sign, timing might be important I don't know.
