[Q] Weather Apps Not Working - AT&T HTC One (M8)

So I rooted my phone and installed GPE Lollipop 5.0.1. The system works great minus one hiccup. For some reason weather apps are not updating and displaying weather info. The errors usually say 'not set' or just nothing displays. I checked to make sure all of my GPS and Wifi settings were on and they are. Google Maps locates my location. So does anyone have an idea what could be causing this issue? I'm sure it's something I'm overlooking. Thanks!

Try turning on Google location reporting in Settings>Locations, and see if that helps. I had a similar issue on my Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 running CM12, and remember thinking that setting didn't make any sense. But it worked.
EDIT: Or maybe its the other setting where it asks is you want to let apps access location. That would make more sense. Although I don't know how to make that option come up except during the phone setup wizard (when you first install a ROM, for instance). At least on Sense ROMs (don't know about GPE) it only shows the first option I mentioned (Google location reporting). In the setup wizard it shows both (Google location reporting & let apps access location) with option to turn off/on either or both.

Can not get GPS to work with new ROM

So I installed the new ROM today and had no problems at all with the install...but the GPS will not seem to work.
Location services is turned on...and no luck. Both google maps and live search say "Seeking GPS satellite" and nothing happens
How long have you waited? It has taken some time for some folks to get thiers working.
Have you tried another area. So people have had to drive or walk around to get it working.
which rom are you running? ver , alltel , sprint or telus??
i am running telus and cant get gps to work.. may be it works on sprint only and its agps ??
someone gave me the helpful hint of going to my phone settings and changing my location from 911 to location ON
it worked like a charm

that seems to work... its off only by few miles but it works
when i used the GPS it was able to put me in the living room of my house... and then i went to my bedroom and it followed me... scary.... however remember this GPS does use signals from the sky and you should have an unobstructed view of the sky
no problems
i just did my first rom flash yesterday. i had no problems everything works great. i used the first rom that was released not dcd's. i just joined this site, and whats the difference with these that dcd does and the officials? stripped down?
mine doesnt work either i just installed DCD 2.0 Sprint beta rom and the radio and settings are all fine....is it my location?
make sure you change location setting to not be 911 only...from dialer goto menu then options then services tab and "Get Settings" for location setting and choose LOCATION hit ok a few times and voila gps works in gmaps
oh and either put it by a window or go outside for initial connection, may take up to 30 minutes

Another tip from my experience of the last 24 hours getting the new ROM to work; I used sbp backup to backup my device when I switched ROMs, and as soon as I restored it, the GPS stopped working. After a little playing I discovered that some registry setting got restored and that disabled it. I haven't taken the time to try to figure out which one, I just did a selective restore and rebuilt the rest. The point, simply, is that little things like that might throw things off.
Other than that, though, I checked to make sure the External GPS settings had COM4 on the first screen, and google maps just worked... but only after awhile. to start with, didn't work. Now, works great even inside.
Just be patient, play with a few things, and try it when you first flash DCDs new ROM if all else fails to make sure it's not something you installed afterwords that's throwing it off.
Good luck, and thank you to all who have made this possible! this is exciting!
I was having problems with gps but after a hard reset all is good
I also restored a Sprite backup and broke my GPS
I restored a sprite backup and it broke my gps too. i have so many apps installed that rebuilding would take forever. do you have any idea what registry setting might have changed to disable the gps? any help would be greatly appreciated.
TIA

Get aGPS to work in Google Maps??

I had the feature in other roms that would give me an approximate location on Google Maps almost instantly when it was opened. Within 2400 meters or so. With the new NFSFAN rom this is not the case. It finds GPS lock, but until then it has no idea where I am. The weather location thing works so aGPS should be working, just not working in Google Maps.
Not sure if it will work in your rom, or even be the problem. I assume you are talking about tower based location.
The rom I was using it worked then suddenly stopped after upgrading. I compared the registries and found that for some reason some keys in the registry werent being created. I added these and it started working again.
HKLM>software>google>googlemaps
supports_extended_ril value=1
(this will enable location based off of cell phone tower)
supports_extended_wifi value=1
(this will enable location based off of your wifi access point)
You will need to restart google maps for it to take effect.
hope it helps.

what is your distribution_channel value set to? I have it at gmm-htc trying to see if that is preventing me from connecting to the gps towers.
i don't have HKLM>software>google>googlemaps
I have: HKLM>software>google>cll>permission list>services.exe
I put those values in cll since there was nothing in the other two and it did not work.
I'm also trying to get GPS to work on NFSFAN's 1.05 ROM (either aGPS or GPS). I don't have the registry keys mentioned above either.
I'm on the latest USCC radio.

Do you have the right COM port and baud rate set up? If your GPS isn't working right, you may have to manually set up the hardware parameters. Try to use QuickGPS/HTC GPSTool/VisualGPS or whatever GPS tool NFS cooked in his rom and see if it can connect and get a few locks.

??? is that a key also for google maps, I dont have one like that. I just have the two mentioned keys (after I added them) along with one other key.
Have you tried adding the above keys and see if it helps?
Keep in mind, I am not currently using the same rom as you, its just a problem I noticed with my rom and the keys fixed it.

I could be wrong, but I believe you only need to setup the com and baud rate when using an external gps or using your phone as a gps for something else (ie computer)
Good luck!

Not necessarily. If the software that you are using doesn't detect the hardware right away, you have to manually set it up. I happened to my Fuze when I had it. I had iGo8 and had to input the settings by hand. Same thing with my Vogue.
waiting for this one
I have been waiting for this to be discussed. I am on NFSFAN's ROM on verizon and google maps is not working. I will try the above reg hacks and report back
Adding those two reg keys did not work for me. Deepsix who is your carrier?
Just on a note. I have the latest NFS and this feature works for me in Google maps, even though I have the phone disabled and the Data connection turned off as well. I use my Touch as a WiFi VoIP device only.
When I start I get an approximate location, and when I click on the little blue dot it gives me my locale within 100 Meters.
I also did not install any of the providor specific cabs that are in the first post on the NFSFAN thread.
It does work with wifi but not over the towers which is what is really useful. Good to know that it does at least work with wifi though.
Try the provisioning.cab file for your carrier?
At the risk of offending and stating the obvious did you guys with the GPS problems install the carrier specific provissioning .cab in order to get GPS working?
If not, try it:
the attached files on the first post of the thread titled " *Updated March 5th* NFSFAN's Custom WM6.5.5 ROMs "
I'm not allowed to post links yet.

That wont help you, its a very small regional carrier. "inland cellular" I have never been able to get google maps to work even on a stock phone from them. Adding those two reg entries was the only way I could get it to work for me.
Sorry it didnt work for you. I know how frustrating it can be.
Just to make sure everyone understands, the GPS would always for with the location, but when gps is off its supposed to get its location based off of the cell tower id/wifi router id's Thats what the reg edits did for me. You can tell what your getting your location from becuase of the accuracy. GPS said it was within a couple yard where as tower based it was within a couple miles.
Ok I took my touch pro and flashed the most recent nfsfan rom and tried google maps location. With GPS on, I could get a location, with gps off and wifi on, I could get a location, with gps off and wifi off, using only cellular data I COULDNT get a location.
I closed google maps.
went to regedit and scrolled to
hklm--software--google
for some reason there is not a key titled googlemaps, I am not sure if thats because its baked in the rom or what.
So...
I created a new string under google titled -- googlemaps
under google maps I created a new string value titled supports_extended_ril with a value of 1
I restarted google maps location and with only the cellular data enabled, it gave me a location instantly.
On a side note, there is another key under google titled cll, dont quote me, but I believe thats created for when you enable 'my location' in the sense theme so that your location shows up on the weather tab. I am not sure if you need to enable that also, I did enable it first so if you are still having troubles, try enable that also.
Hope that helps. It seems to work on any rom I have tried it on. Like I said in previous posts, even the stock rom wouldnt give me that location. I dont think it is carrier specific, as if I understand it correctly, google is sent what tower you are using via tower id code, then google compares that to their list of tower locations. Google then send back your approximate location. They also do that with wifi routers.
Let me know if it works for you.

Thanks for the very detailed scientific post. I have not been able to get GPS working on USCC, there is no carrier cab for it.
I didn't realize after setting the registry entry's that you had to turn off the GPS option in google maps. After turning that off it found my "approximate" location very quickly within half a mile or so of where I was (after also editing the registry).
Thanks everybody! It works well enough for me not to care
That worked for me as well. Thanks! I must have been doing it wrong before because that is a more detailed explanation of what was suggested earlier if I am not mistaken. I cannot believe google would screw something so simple up.

[Q] GPS not locking issues

I just got my wife and myself the S4, our first Samsung phones. Everything seems to be great, except GPS and navigation. I am hoping I am missing something simple. I did not see this issue discussed in the S4 forums here, actually there was one about just how good GPS is with this phone. Anyhow my problem, GPS rarely locks in when I start navigation using Google maps. It will accurately show my present location, I am assuming it is using the wireless network to show that. But 90% of the times I use navigation, it will not lock at all. I have found that if I go into settings and uncheck the stand alone GPS services box, then recheck it I will get immediate GPS lock and can navigate. Then the very next time I need to use navigation, same thing, no GPS lock. I downloaded the GPS status app and same thing there, will not lock on a single satellite, I do my uncheck/recheck thing, and instantly I have many many locked satellites. Anything I am missing in settings?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Fred
I have the same issue.
Works fine for me on stock. I get almost instant GPS lock outdoors. I did have some issues on some ROMs, but I think that was ROM specific, because flashing back to my backup of stock fixed it.
Well I am trying to contact Samsung support. See what sort of run around they can give me.

I had this problem on the GS3...not sure about the S4 yet. Anyway, I found that turning on GPS only when I needed it and turning it off when I didn't made it work correctly. Obviously this isn't ideal but the GPS was 100% using it that way.
I may have found a fix. I tweeted with Samsung support today. They had me boot up in safe mode. In safe mode it only boots up stock apps, nothing that has been downloaded. Well my GPS worked just fine. So it would seem to indicate one of the apps I downloaded was the cause. So I rebooted and began to uninstall any app I had installed. Every two apps I would check the map, still no GPS lock. I had to uninstall every app I installed. Once they were all off the phone, my GPS once again worked perfectly. So I began to re-install the apps one by one, checking the map each time. It kept working. Eventually I had re-installed every app I just took off. GPS, maps and navigation still working perfectly. My wife's S4 had the same issues, so I uninstalled everything, re-installed it, and her GPS works as well. We decided to run some errands and used the navigation for each stop, worked perfectly.
Don't ask me why, I have no clue, but so far my phone is fixed. Will report back if anything changes.
Oh, and if you want to boot up in safe mode and don't know how, power off your phone. Power it back on, when the first loading screen comes up, press the down volume key until the phone reboots. It will be in safe mode. It will be indicated as such in the bottom left hand corner of your screen.
I hope this helps others and is a permanent fix.
GPS not locking, possible solution.
Ok, well I think I have my problem narrowed down to one app. After deleting and re-installing all my apps GPS worked just fine. This morning I opened up Yahoo Weather for the first time since re-installing. Knowing it used GPS location I checked navigation right after. Sure enough I had lost my GPS functionality. Uninstalled the app, all GPS services came back. Check the same issue with my wife's S4, same results.
I am not saying this is the only app causing issues, but seems to be on my phone. Without the Yahoo weather app, all is good. Which is a shame because I really liked the app.

I confirm removing Yahoo weather fixes the issue. Thanks a lot for this solution.
Good, I am glad it help. Not sure if it will help or not, but I did send an email to yahoo support. I am hoping maybe they can come up with an update that will fix the issue.
An easier way of going into safe mode is holding the power button, then when the shutdown menu pops up, hold down the power off button. Might be a little easier
Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk 2
Thanks
I've been beating myself up over this. I haven't had the phone a week and thought my GPS was shot. I know this is an old thread, but it fixed me. Thanks again. Darn Yahoo Weather!
Are there still problems with this? The app received an update on august 15th.
I've tried turning on the GPS and Google Maps works ok for now.

[Q] GPS on Dubbsy rom not working

I've been on Pure.V5.4.1 since it was uploaded. For the last 4 days (at least), Maps/Navigation hasn't worked at all. I get an hourglass and then 'No Network Connection' (or whatever the message is) or if I'm on the map itself it just never fills in - a blue screen. I do have network - either WiFi or LTE (I can run chrome and do a search, etc), but Maps never connects. Clearing the Maps data/cache didn't help. I the past I needed to do that when installing one of your roms so that it would ask me for the basic permissions again.
Any ideas? I must have Maps!
Peter
The GPS issues across the board with this device are strange. I'll have to sit down and figure it out one of these days.
Basically, the arguably weird fix for any and all GPS issues is boot into a TW ROM(backup your current install) get a GPS fix in TW. Then restore your desired ROM.
It seems really weird to me because I don't see why GPS configurations would get messed up randomly and by only non-TW ROMs.
sent from my GE gs4
"No Network Connection" in Google Maps
I have the same problem with the new version of Maps only if I start the Navigation app first.
If you open the Maps app first, then start navigation through there, it locks on and searching for a destination works without error.

I tried that before posting, with no luck. However, following Dubbsy's suggestion to flash a TW rom, get Maps working and then re-flash v5.6 worked perfectly!

GPS Woes

Is anyone else experiencing issues with the GPS not working? The phone is able to determine my current location but is unable to actually navigate anywhere. Google maps never shows an arrow to indicate the GPS is locked. I've also used several Gps app to help correct it. I've done multiple resets and app updates I've even sent the phone back to Nokia twice just for them to tell me nothing is wrong. My phone is running the latest update as of March 11. Please help!

Review your 'Location' settings.
Go to Settings - - > Security & Location
Look for Location (it should say On) press to open Location menu screen, review all options shown.
Near bottom of list look for Scanning and select. This will bring up options to use wifi and Bluetooth to scan for positioning. Turn them both on.
They help even when not using. System uses to triangulate (better identify location).
Also check 'Google Location Accuracy'. I know from experience if that selection is off GPS will work, but navigation Apps are fairly useless.
Some suggestions. Hope it helps.

Hello, I have this problem too, there is no solution

你好,我也遇到同样的问题,没办法解决。
turn off: Google Location Accuracy, GPS will working.
when open google maps, it will ask to turn on Google Location Accuracy .... select NO!!!
On my device, this worked. Download the app "GPS Test" from F-Driod (might be in Play Store? I never looked...) https://f-droid.org/en/packages/com.android.gpstest.osmdroid/
In the app, click the "Clear assist data" wait a few minutes. I've waited between 1 - 20 minutes in the past. The GPS redoes all it's data and starts working again for me.
I had the same problem. Contacted Nokia, it's a known problem caused by an update.
About a month ago I received a new update and since then everything GPS related is working fine again.
I had the same problem and sent my phone to repair. They confirmed the issue and corrected it. Since then the GPS works well.
