Kindly provide me with input to upgrade firmware of the Akai Smart Box. Or Help me to flash custom rom on the device to improve its performance. It has stock ROM gengerbread 2.3 and has ARM cortex A8 1.2 Ghz processor and 1gb RAM.

Rooting means you have root access to your phone. You can modify/change by attaining root access.
It does not upgrade your firmware.
You can flash the firmware / rom on your phone only after getting root access.
Search on xda for any custom firmwares for your device.

I got a Lenovo A369, which the CPU is MT6572, a dual core A9, but it only has 256MB RAM and 512MB ROM.
