Hey guys. I recently rooted my unlocked Z2 using the downgrade root method and custom rom. Today I got the Lollipop update notice (Sweden). I download it and then when I try to install it it just reboots the device.
Will I have to flash to a stock Rom before doing the ota update? And will it break root?
Thanks
download flashtool and a lollipop ftf and flash it
just exclude data
Thanks. Will look into it. Not to be rude though but that didn't answer my question.
you would have to folow the same method to root lollipop
to upgrade using sonys OTA app you wl have to flash a fully stock firmware
or you can just upgrade using flashtool and a lollipop FTF

Hello
I haven't received yet an OTA update for the Jelly Bean. Is that OK? Should I flash it manually?
I have rooted phone, with custom kernel and stock rom, shall I accept OTA update?
Thanks
Bootloader is unlocked?
why dont you try to download the ftf file and flash it manualy?
in the Xperia Android Development forum you will find all that you need

If you have custom kernel, most likely you have unlocked bootloader. You will not be able to install the update via OTA, PC Companion or Sony Update Service if your bootloader is unlocked. On unlocked bootloader your only option for JB is flashing FTF using flashtool.
Sent from my LT22i using xda app-developers app
But according to the instructions I have to wipe the device, right?
but if I update via OTA it doesn't wipe the device, right?
Can I do it without wiping?
If I have to wipe, Can I flash to JB and recover all the apps and preferences without installing?
Hey guys,
Can I still use the easy root tool to root after updating to the 4.4.4 firmware?
Thanks
Nope
I tried but it is getting stuck on CREATING VM (JAVASUCKS)
Same here... +1 Stuck on "Creating VM... "
No, the known flaws in 4.4.2 are all patched for latest fw, only current way around it is to downgrade, root install dual recovery and flash a pre-rooted zip from CWM.
In other words;
Go back to .314 (4.4.2) firmware,
Root,
Install a recovery,
And flash the new 4.4.4 firmware via recovery.

There are new rumors that you can root 314 - select preserve mode in SuperSU - and go OTA... and root will remain...

Yeah I've heard that aswell. It's most likely working. Shall I try it? Just spent a few hours getting 4.4.4 work on my phone with root...
Ah right - Fuuuun...
I think i'll just carry on stock until someone sorts out a rooting method for 4.4.4 that doesn't involve so much faffing about lol.
Thanks for all the replies
Just keep a eye in Z3 Section too
4.4.4 firmrare is a near direct port
Hi folks,
I have a new 4.4.4 Z2, should I root it now or wait after the Lollipop version is installed?
Will I be able to install the Lollipop when rooted?

Now struggling for a night with unlocking the bootloader, sooms that W7x64 has a prob with it so he can't find the driver.
I'm becoming a nerd
Hello,
I'm Yazan and I'm new to this developing stuff. I had an old Samsung that I used to play with and rooted it but moving to the Xperia z2 was a big upgrade. I have very low experience and would love to root my Xperia z2. I have updated it to the generic lollipop update and would like to know if there is a way to root it. And also could I downgrade to 4.4.4 KitKat root it and install a rooted 5.0 stock ROM?
Thanks for the help. I'll be waiting. :fingers-crossed:
You need to downgrade it to 4.4.2 Kitkat, root it, install Dualrecovery, and then flash a prerooted lollipop firmware via recovery.
Please search the forum for how to do it..

... So I could flash (downgrade) a stock 4.4.2 ROM directly from 5.0.2 using flashtool, then root it and install dual recovery then flash the 5.0 pre rooted rom using the recovery? And btw my bootloader is locked should I unlock it first.

No need to unlock bootloader... Just do as you said...
The intention of downgrading firmware is to gain root without unlocking bootloader.

Haha, thanks I'm sort of new... Thanks though. and which ROM should I choose... 17.1.2.A.0.314 or 17.1.1.A.0.402. My device is D6503
You may use 17.1.2.A.0.314 to downgrade.

What about the recovery, is it okay to install the custom twrp recovery? I saw it on a video on youtube.
Sorry if this question was asked before but i wanna know if there is a methot to root sony Xperia z ultra 5.0 lollipop, model C6833 with firmware 14.5.A.0.242. If anyone knows a good way to root it please post it here. TThanks in advace!
I'm afraid that we don't have "one click root" right now.
You would have to downgrade back to 4.4.4 (with root and custom recovery) and flash a pre-rooted 5.0
This guide worked for me.
Thanks but the thing is that i am allready in 5.0 and i don't have a rooted device....so...how can i di that downgrade in order to root it?

There is a section there when you are already on 5.0.
I too was already on 5.0 and no root but following this guide, I now have a rooted 5.0.1.
Basically, the steps are:
1) Unlock bootloader
2) Download 4.4.4 FTF and use Flash Tool to downgrade your phone
3) Root and install custom recovery on your downgraded phone (you should already be on 4.4.4 by this time)
4) Download 5.0.1 FTF and create a pre-rooted flashable 5.0 using prefCreator
5) Flash your pre-rooted 5.0
Read the guide, you can never get lost.
Thanks a lot!!

Did you search?
If you did youbwould know you can
1. Unlock your bootloader
2. Downgrade to 5.0 and root with kingroot
3. Downgrade to 4.4 and use towelroot
Sent from my D6503 using Tapatalk
There is no root method for 5.1.1 except downgrading and then flashing pre-rooted ROM of 5.1.1.. Just did this and was pretty easy
downgrade your firmware to the rootable one (17.1.2.A.0.314) which is 4.4.2 via flashtool and very easy to root
Then install dual recovery
Then flash the latest already rooted zip file of 5.1.1(.46 build) from development section
here is all files you need
