Extracting factory roms - Android

Hi all,
This is my first post, so please dont be mad if I posted in the wrong section.
I am new to the android modifing. I recenty started installing custom roms, kernels and overclocking.
For now, its going pretty well. I just cant find something that I'm intrested in, so I decided to ask here.
Sometimes I cant find stock firmware for phones. I tried on sammobile.
Is there a way to extract factory rom and kernel from phone before I flash custom rom?
That way I can return from custom to factory rom in very quick time if i need it.
Sorry for my bad English.
All the best.

Switching back to stock ROM?

Dear all,
I would like to flash my TP to a new ROM (for the first time). I did a lot of research already but I still have 1 question.
If I flash my TP to a new ROM can I hard reset my device again to the default stock ROM?
The reason I want to know this is because I have a Dutch stock ROM. I assume most of the coocked ROMs are in English. I have no idea if it is possible to switch back to the Dutch stock ROM. And most importantly how it is done.
Any advice would be very much appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
Cheers,
Keyzz

The HR will not send you back to your default stock rom, it will only give you the current ROM plain as it was when you first flashed it. To get back to stock rom simply flash your stock rom. If you dont have it, go check the wiki for it, it should be there.
There are several posts on how to switch back to a stock ROM. There is even a database of stock ROMs in the wiki. Please use the Search function next time.
Also, there is a guide on how to stock to custom ROMs and stock ROMs. All of the necessary items are stickied.

[Q] Custom ROM vs stock ROM

Hi people,
I've been reading up on flashing custom ROMs and might be interested to start using those on my rooted X10.
Question is though, can I easily go back to stock ROM in case I need to claim warranty?
I'm guessing by updating through PC Companion or SEUS, but I want to be sure first.
I couldn't find the answer in the forums, although I read quite intensively through the first pages of the dev & hacking forum.
Don't flame me, I've got my Android several months now but still consider myself a newbie, coming from WinMo...
Its easy to flash back to the original firmware with the flash tool. So if you wanna install a custom rom go right ahead.
Do I need to have the stock ROM at my disposal? Cause I can't find it for my carrier...
Yup. It's very easy to get back to stock firmware if you got an unlocked model.
However, if you are on a branded X10, you gotta find your exact branded version.
You can probably used the search button to find it though.

Recovery mode unable to unpack custon ROM .zip files

hello,
i have been unable to install custom ROMs on my galaxy s2, various forums indicate the installation took place but in my own case the installation process stops when ever the kernel is trying to unpack the .zip file in order to commence installation. i have followed the step by step procedures of the devs but still havent been able to. especially resurrection and batista. are there any prerequisites i need to follow. i am currently using a rooted SGS2, kernel cf-root 5.2, stockROM XXLPH 4.0.3. thnks much.
i am not an expert when it comes to resurrection or batista, but i believe that some newer roms need at least the cwm recovery that comes with cf-root 5.4 or above, so maybe you should flash a newer stock rom with a corresponding newer cf-root to begin flashing.
or, if you want, you could flash the latest siyah kernel through odin, which is compatible with both stock and aosp/aokp roms and have a nice new touch recovery that is certainly able to flash all roms as well.
also, a problem is also a question and this thread belongs in the q&a section. reported. this time someone will move it for you, in the future, please post in the correct section in the first place, for reference have a look at the thread Questions belong in Q&A.
thank you for the response. kindly advice on what stable stock roms i could try. cus i believe i have also tried with a 5.3 but still same.
just also tried the F1 nexus rom still same. maybe i need to take the S2 back to factory, like repartitioning and all, pls what do you advice cus i think something behind has been messed up.
i also noticed something, when i flash with a stock ROM, the fone reboots into the android sytem recovery and i get an error "dst read(I/0 error)". please what does this mean.
please can someone help , i can only flash ROM's through ODIN, but cannot install zip files through recovery. recovery never unpacks the files and all ROM's come as zip files. please help

[Q] Is it really worth for me trying to install a rom for the second time?

So yeah, got one of these phones. It's slow... I tried installing a ROM before, and I bricked it.
It's not like I did something wrong, I picked s5830i rom, from the forums, and my device never booted again.
Before I had a HTC HD2, I did a lot of flashing here, unluckily it got bricked, because it got really hot while doing task29. I tried doing the unbricking, but since I didn't really knew what region my device is, so I had to give it back to the warranty, they fixed it, but it took two weeks, that's not a time I want to wait without any phone. And I saw that CM7 is out.. Damn. So guys is it really worth, and any ideas how can I find my device region? Just in case if I would flash it again and brick it.
You Have Surely Didn't Follow the instructions of the rom you were flashing as you bricked it
You should be on Stock Rom before flashing any customs roms
You should see yourself which rom suits you in development section
You Can Flash any Odin Package For it
IF you Want for your region only you should search on google or XDA
Btw i am from India but i am using australian odin package Just for baseband firmware as XXLA2 is prefered for flashing rom
as per my knowledge
You can check Sams Firmware site to find the right one for your country. When i looked recently nearly all countries have latest update of firmwares. When you have firmware you can use unbrick tutorial in dev or general section to revert back to stock. Thats what the service guys do to your phone. Use the latest firmware available to your country. And happy flashing of roms in dev section but carefully read instructions as every one of them need different flashing sometimes.

[Q] Where to download stock ROMs

hello people,
i do not know anything about phones ..i am not savvy at all.
i just bought a galaxy s2 (sph-d-710) and want to WIPE AND DELETE everything and do a CLEAN install of a STOCK ROM of Android 4.2 or 4.3. (sorry for the CAPS, but it seems that in my last post people did not see the keyword STOCK.
~~(when I say "stock" ROM i mean just the basic factory operating system that would come with a device bought in the store)
i dont' care which one.
I don't need to restore or back up anything. i just want a stock ROM.
So where can I find an official stock ROM for this device?
I just want to do a clean install just like one would with a laptop...wiping the hard drive and installing a fresh copy of Windows.
I searched for days on google for this topic but it seems like everyone has to be cool and do a custom ROM and nobody knows anything about factory stock ROMs.
Please anyone know where to download an official stock ROM
thanks
