[Q] Verizon One Max -> Virgin Mobile Canada = Service not working - HTC One Max

Hey there,
Thanks in advance for taking a read and hopefully giving me a hand to figuring this out.
I live in Canada, and my service provider is Virgin Mobile.
I purchased a phone from eBay to use on my network. I double checked the network bands were compatible with my network, and fortunately they were. (I bought an unlocked HTC One Max from Verizon.) I received the phone yesterday, and as soon as I inserted my SIM to the phone, it told me "This SIM card is from an unknown source." My cell service will show as active for about three seconds, and then flip to no bars with "no service available" as the status.
After doing some research, the error message was from a Verizon Setup application. I haven't yet rooted the phone (I just got it yesterday) so I haven't bothered to install Titanium and uninstall the Verizon Setup app.
I also set my APN settings correctly as to Virgin Mobile's network (a branch of bell nonetheless), I've double and triple checked these. My service is nothing short of intermittent still, and I can hardly use the phone. Phone calls will literally cut out right in the middle like 5-10 seconds in. It's rendering my new phone useless.
Any ideas as to what could be making my service cut in and out? It's receiving service, so clearly the bands are compatible; However, my research showed this to be true also, so that's not a surprise.
If anyone could provide some possible solutions to solving my issue, that'd be greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much,
SaturatedLemon.

[SOLVED] Cannot use GSM radio - help needed!

I have since discovered that my IMEI has been blocked. This phone was bought off eBay in January but apparently the block was only placed on August 7th. I'm gutted, I'm really hoping this can be resolved or that I am covered by insurance.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi everyone,
I'd greatly appreciate any help anyone can give me. Here is what happened:
About 2 weeks ago I upgraded radio from 1.38 to 1.50, which worked and everything was fine.
Last week I went on holiday to a little place on the beach, where signal has normally been a problem. Not so this time, I had plenty of signal and was talking and texting fine.
On Tuesday it worked all morning and then in the afternoon the signal dropped off and it said "no service". I cycled the phone radio a few times and rebooted the phone, all to no avail. I concluded that the local cell tower had a fault and that I wasn't in range of another.
On Wednesday we took a trip and, as I expected, a few miles down the road my phone picked up signal again, consistent with the faulty cell tower hypothesis. I recieved a load of texts that had been waiting for me, made a few calls and everything was fine. When we got back to where we were staying, the signal held - I presumed the fault had been fixed.
Later that evening the signal dropped out again as before. I assumed that perhaps the fault hadn't been sufficiently fixed in the cell tower, so while annoying I presumed when I got to a different area the signal would come back like it did before.
However, it didn't. We came home on Friday and it hasn't picked up a signal, just says "no service". If I manually search for networks it finds O2 (as well as all the others) and I can select it, but it still says "no service".
I plugged in a T-Mobile sim, and it found signal immediately, BUT I cannot send/recieve calls or texts, people calling me hear a strange problem about it being unable to connect their call, and text message delivery reports give the same (not the message that one gets if the phone is switched off) - so it is obviously on the network but something is stopping it using the network - when I try and make a call I instantly get those four beeps which indicate the call has ended.
I then phoned O2 and said I think my SIM is dead, and they agreed and are sending me a new one. However, I then tried my old O2 sim again and got a brief signal, but still the same problem as the T-Mo sim - cannot send/recieve calls/texts/anything.
My O2 sim now says no service, although I have tried it in another phone and it works fine.
Since then I have re-flashed 1.38, hard reset the OS (Sleuth's v3) and flashed the O2 WM6 official rom with 1.47, all making no difference. I've tried forcing 2G and 3G and particular frequencies (it usually says it cannot apply these band settings, but after several reboots I sometimes manage to change it).
So, in summary:
Signal is very intermittent and usually says "no service".
Even when I do have signal, I cannot send/recieve calls/texts.
My O2 sim definitely works.
I have tried radios 1.50, 1.38 and 1.47 to no avail.
I have hard reset the ROM (Sleuth's v3) and flashed the O2 official ROM to no avail.
Desperate for help! Many thanks
I have also cleaned the SIM, SIM contacts in the phone, and checked that I can access the SIM card from the phone, and I can get the phone's IMEI etc so at least part of the radio seems to be working, and as mentioned before the SIM definitely works.
Thanks
Update:
I have tried Orange post-pay and Orange pre-pay sims and they both work fine, so it doesn't appear to be my phone that has broken.
However, my original O2 sim continues to work in another Nokia phone, suggesting that the sim isn't broken.
It may just be the pairing of that sim with my phone, which is the only thing I can think of. Does the Hermes apply sim "profiles" to sims which are inserted? Have I messed up the profile associated with that sim? My new O2 sim should come next week so we will see if that one works.
Also, the error messages of the text delivery reports sent to my phone while my O2 sim was in it say "Interworking Not Available" (this is from an Orange phone). Any idea what that means?
Thanks to anyone who can help.

Shot in the dark here: how did you get your Hermes? Could it be blacklisted from O2 - i.e. could it be stolen from an O2 subscriber. (I would assume by the person you got it from, I am not accusng you of anything!)
Hi Todd,
Thanks for your reply. It's not something I'd thought of but it could fit the scenario. I got the phone off eBay back in January and had no problems with it until now. It's actually a T-Mobile branded one, (i.e. the MDA) rather than the XDA Trion. When I phoned O2 to ask if my account had been blocked and to get a new sim the person I spoke to said there was nothing to indicate that my account would have been blocked, which would presumably include any blocked IMEIs that were listed there. Also, if the phone had been blocked after being listed stolen it would have been blocked on all networks wouldn't it? If my new sim doesn't work I will phone O2 and ask them if my IMEI is blocked, so thanks for your suggestion.
As updated in the first message, my IMEI has been blocked, causing all the problems. The reason the Orange sims worked must be because the block hasn't propagated to the Orange network yet.
Hey i discovered i had the same problem today aswell i bourght the phone of Ebay for the first day it was working then next day i upgraded to WM6 and it stop working i did some research on why it stop working and here it was
Orange & O2:
If you place an active orange or
O2 sim into a blacklisted handset you
phone will not show any signal strength
at all! If the handset is a Nokia then a
"SIM card registration failed" message
will also be displayed. If your handset is an
Ericsson then an "Invalid Mobile" message
will be displayed. For most other manufacturers
the handset will simply show no signal!
Vodafone & T-Mobile
If you place an active Vodafone or T-Mobile sim into a blacklisted handset, the phone will appear to function perfectly UNTIL you try to make an outgoing call. When you try to call out from the handset you will hear a sequence of beeps and then the call will be dropped!!
wow nice story man , it seemed like a movie or something
anyway before i finish it i expected that your problem is that the phone IMEI is blacklisted . since its working with orange and other sims . its usually normal to get signal but u wont be able to make or recieve phone calls .
good luck .

roam on att help

my friend tom got his galaxy s like two months ago. he has a even more plus plan with unlimited everything on tmobile and he used that in a iphone 3g for a year with no problems and he could roam with no issues on att.
with his new vibrant its not working! it takes forever to try to connect then gives a error. the sim should be good since it roams in two other unlocked phones..
for the note, his phone IS unlocked... that was the first thing we thought of..
the error is: unable to select network.. your sim card is not allowed to connect to this network
this phone is a quadband phone so it should work.. we have put a att legit iphone sim in it and it works great.. what gives? why can't he roam on this new phone when other phones do? running bionix rom.. have tried updates, wondering if anyone has any opinions or info
we've already tried changing network settings with *#0011#, gone into service mode *#*#197328640#*#* with no luck
edit: we've tried not allowing the phone to connect to our local att 3G band (1900) and use all other bands again with no luck. the phone connects to canada's rogers network tho.. weird..
anyone check this out yet?? anyone got it workin? any reports would be killer ...
we have tried more settings through service mode still with no luck. when we specify certain bands and leaving the att 3G local band unchecked, it will not hop on T-mobile with the setting! Crazy! not sure if it's the rom, radio version or kernel but we will keep tweaking and posting results.. if anyone is having this issue or has concerns any posts or signs of life would be cool lol
Same issue
Unfortunately, I don't have a solution, but I've been working on this same issue since september. I originally contacted tmo about the problem to see if they somehow hadn't provisioned my phone/account for roaming. Needless to say they were not much help. They suggested I exchange the phone for a new one, which I did, and I still have the same problem.
I'm in a rural area of california where tmo has roaming on att towers. My girl has tmo service with a different samsung phone and she can roam on att just fine. She can send/receive calls and text. I even put my sim in her phone, and it works, so I've pretty much narrowed the problem down to an issue with the vibrant itself.
My phone is not unlocked, so we've ruled that out. I'm running bionix fusion with ji2 modem now, but I've had the issue with the stock phone before ji6, and after ji6 ota. I've tried messing around with the service menu the same as you, and I haven't got anywhere either.
I have been able to get the phone to at least lock on to att by adding the apn internet2.voicestream.com, and it will get past the "not registered on network" message. Unfortunately, it won't complete a call or send a message, it just times out after about 15 seconds and drops back to the previous menu (depending on whether I tried to dial out of contacts, the call log, or the dialer). But it does not give me an error message, it behaves as if the call connected and immediately hung up.
I had given up on it for the past couple weeks, but I have time now to try and work it again. Let me know if you've gotten anywhere, and I'll do the same.
The fix is: when you're in an att roam area, set your phone to gsm 850 only via the service menu. If your phone doesn't auto lock on the att network, search for available networks and choose att. After that you should be able to send and receive calls and texts.
after yet some more messing around, still no luck. it's clearly a thing with tmobile not allowing roaming..... because i read many threads off the gooooogle that say tmobile is pretty much going away and any "contractless" plans don't have roaming so they don't lose money....
dickheads. at least he's grandfathered in with a good unlimited everything plan tho..
even if all this said, if anyone finds any info out post!
the other day i was out of tmobiles network coverage and on att voice and edge not 3g. i live in texas
this is with a stock vibrant jI6
tried the app RoamControl with no luck. it uses different tmobile bands when in "roam only" mode. anyone have any luck yet?

[Q] Dell Streak 5 GoPhone SIM card No Service

I have just purchased an unlocked Dell Streak 5 from ebay, I put my GoPhone SIM card in and booted it up, and I'm not prompted with any unlock screen, and it doesn't say my SIM card isn't inserted or isn't invalid. But I have no service and cannot connect to any network via the Wireless & Network Settings, I have called AT&T Support multiple times and have not received any useful help. They have changed the IMEI of my SIM to match my Dell Streak 5 and I still have no service. I have just got off the phone with someone who has made the most sense of all the representatives I've talked to. She said a previous person had updated my information of my account and that it may take up to and hour for the information to update, and I was told I would receive a call back in about an hour to unlock my SIM card i guess. I'm not 100% sure what that means, because I've used this SIM card with 3 previous different phones, all have worked. So I don't know how if my SIM is locked that I was able to do that. Some feedback on this issue would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to have just wasted $300 on a very nice phone that I cannot use. I'm very much into tech and I need this phone working!
more information:
Dell Streak 5 running froyo 2.2.2
Ebay seller stated phone was unlocked to all GSM carriers
My GoPhone plan is unlimited talk&text (i'm not worried about not having data plan) So I hope this helps shed some light on this subject. Thanks in advance!
other notes:
I have tried playing in my apn settings, and searching for networks. AT&T shows but I cannot connect
I've ran into the issue where one my really old tmo sims didnt work in it, the sim itself was no longer valid but my iphone detected it properly.
Used a newer expired sim and it was detected properly. I dont know if this helps but you could try a different gophone sim
thanks for the reply. I'm not sure if it's my SIM, I feel it's not. I purchased my SIM less than a year ago so it's fairly new. Any way of checking the age of a SIM? also I have no other SIM cards I can try. at the moment my hope rests on AT&T support calling me back with good news.
Ok sorry for the double posting, but I have tried my buddies AT&T SIM card, which looks older then mine in regards to the graphic wear on it, but it works in my Dell Streak?! Does this help shed any light on this? I'm not understanding why his SIM card works, we're both AT&T only difference is he's on a contract. So i'm really stumped, I would really appreciate any help I can get on this. I need this phone!
Thanks in advance!
Is your plan a pay-per-use plan or a pay-as-you-go plan? It makes a difference because smartphones cannot be used on a pay-per-use plan.
Thanks for the reply, I believe I'm pay-as-you-go. I purchased a GoPhone close to a year ago (maybe 9-10 months ago) and I took the SIM card, activated on the GoPhone first, then used it with 3 previous phones. I'm 99% postive it's pay-as-you-go but I got tired off constantly buying the plan monthly (unlimited talk&text) and setup an autorefill to automatically refill my account with the selected plan service (unlimited talk&text)
Again sincerely sorry for the double post again but I've had the biggest breakthrough all day. I accidentally clicked airplane mode when attempting to power off my Dell Streak. I then turned airplane mode back off and I went to power off and during the power off I noticed my bars go blue with service, in excitement I quickly turned my phone back on and did not have service. I then did my previous accident this time canceling the power off and my phone connected to AT&T network and I have full service, I quickly made a call to my buddy who's with me and it went through, upon trying to text him, it hangs on sending and eventually prompts that the message could not be sent please retry. I feel I'm so close! Does this new info help? Again I have some knowledge of all this and this all has just been so confusing to me.
EDIT: more info, I can receive messages but it seems I cannot reply :/
UPDATE: It seems I can get my Dell Streak to send messages by toggling airplane mode on then off, but it's only temporary and I have to repeat the process almost every other message just to get my message to send. Again this is just adding more confusion to my problems. I can't imagine why all this is working like this!
Thanks in advance once again!

I had a similar problem, I got my unlock code from AT&T, unlocked the device (when it prompted and I had a T-Mo-USA sim inserted), it shows the number in the device identity screen, but never connects to a network. I just swapped my old Streaks motherboard to my Streak with a working screen, just to see if this would work, working on getting this motherboard unlocked too.

Am Facing same issue in India. SIM1 suddenly stopped working, but SIM1 works on other phone and SIM2 from other phone also works on Dell Streak. Its only the Dell Streak + particular SIM that is not working. What could be the issue.. Will flashing a modem help.?
Thanks
Even, i have been having this problem with my streak, posed it here few months back but of not much help. It identifies the cell provider and all, and then shows the "x" at the signal bar. While keep restarting the phone, sometimes it suddenly works for 2-3 minutes and then, goes back to frustration.

[Q] Mobile Network not available Samsung S2

Hello,
I bought a brand new sim free s2 from ebay a month ago, it seems for some reason to come up with today "Mobile Network not available" and will not make call or text even though I have a full signal. I cannot seem to get around this problem. Ive tried putting latest firmware on it (KI3), adding orange as CSC and nothing seems to work. Internet works through orange network. Sim card works in my iphone and also put in o2 sim and does the same thing.
I cannot seem to find a post on here that tells me a solution or anywhere else. So if you can shed some light this would help a lot.
Call *#*#4636#*#* and switch to correct band
Sent from my Nexus S using xda premium
Hi, thanks for your reply, but menu comes up as testing and has following menus to it phone information, battery information, usage stats, wifi info.
Also when you go to search network, says unable to search networks during data service activated, do you want to disable data service and search networks?. Press ok and searches networks, as im on orange I select orange and says same thing again and then press ok and says unable to connect.
God this is driving me mad.
I contacted orange to check if network barred and gave them the serial number and they checked national database and said it has been network blacklisted. Ive now got a ebay dispute with seller about this, so hoping I get my money back. Beware people with sellers selling phones, Ive had phone 2 weeks and on xmas day it went off and no network connection. Can easy be done. I guess either a lost claim with insurance company or stolen. But dont think it was as it came with original box and brand new accessories. So leaning to an insurance claim. I will post up seller, so no one else gets scammed as soon as I get this resolved with ebay.

T-MOBILE is BLOCKING my P769 sim from the network. Fix?

Hi!
Rooted with cmahendra's offline Lelus method (and to anyone who's done that, my hat is off to you).
**SHORT VERSION**
Sim goes into the L9. I get bars that show network availability, however I am not able to connect/make/receive phone calls.
**DETAILED VERSION**
Starts like this: I have my CM rooted Aria that works a-ok as far as the network. Phone message memory getting full all the time and incoming texts bounce back, with no way of knowing who sent them. Can't have that, so I buy a stock L9.
Sim works. I want to have Wi-Fi calling, which is the *only* reason I bought the L9. Wi-fi calling is not working: call up T-Mo and they say I need to give a 911 address and all will be well. Ok, done.
Sim works. But no Wi-Fi calling still. Call up T-Mo and they say "Ohhh! you need a "3G-B" (I don't think that stands for gigabyte) sim card" Ohhh and what's your phone model etc etc. I tell them "it's a no-brand phone I got overseas," they don't need to know the model: they didn't with the CM Aria. They're clicking settings on their screen other side of the phone while we're talking: I can feel it.
Sim *stops* working. Need a working phone, so let L9 aside and get a stock T-mo S2. Same issue, cell network not connecting.
Let me show THEM! Ha! I'll unlock it. Unlocked the S2.
Sim still doesn't work.
Put the Sim back in the rooted/unlocked Aria? Network works.
What settings do they have in their stock phones that disallow network connectivity, because in the CyanogenMod Aria I have the phone fully works, GPS, tether, etc etc. In their stock-from-T-Mobile phones, network = nada.
Thank you for reading.

What the heck are you asking? I don't see any understandable questions in your message. I see you blowing off steam.
It does look like T-Mobile cooked your sim. You may need a new one.
Call them again and ask for "Customer Retention" through the automated system. Those people are more knowledgeable. A new sim should be free if they killed it.
Also, a data plan is not required for wifi-calling.
T-Mobile will give you a SIM regardless. They are always free.
I'm not sure as I am unrooted, but most carriers block network access via files in the EFS folder. This folder is VERY delicate. Anything improperly changed here can render a phone useless. If the SIM works in another device, it's not the SIM. Have you tried a different SIM in your phone?
Also, if you're blocked from network access, when you make a call, you should be prompted with, "We're sorry, but this device has been blocked from network access." If you do not get that prompt, then there is something wrong with the phone itself, be it software or hardware.
Looks like the L9 isn't registering in their system. Where did you buy the phone, blacklisted perhaps?
As for fried your sim, why does it still work in the Aria.
As for 3G-B, you probably need a newer sim, others call it a 4G sim... They should send you one free or pick one up free at a local tmo..
Thanks so far folks...

You hit the nail on the head exactly clockcycle, it's not registering. Something *in* the phone is not letting it connect, because my sim works successfully in any and every other unlocked phone I have, blackberrys, GMS world phones, the rooted Aria, but in the two "newer-released phones-- the L9 and the S2-- it doesn't work.
Phones are legit. Craigslist and brand new. Worked perfectly until calling T-Mobile for "support". The sim is fine and the goal is to keep it and not get a new one. It works.
My strong guess is that if I put a different rom that is *not* stock, the phone will work fine. It worked fine in the beginning, until I called them to address the wi-fi calling issue and they started poking around in my account, asking questions and clicking on things. I didn't want to address the wifi-calling issue too much because we could go off on a tangent.
You're right kevev, it didn't look like there was a 100% clear question. A lot of story though, to make sure there aren't 50 posts of did you do this and id you do that. A full story gives everyone the most info they need to understand the situation instead of "yo! my phone is not connecting!" which we see sometimes .
So the more clear question is:
"I am experiencing carrier settings *in* my L9 that are blocking me from connecting fully to the network on a perfectly fine sim card, how can I get around these settings and what/where are they."
I think tribalartgod understands what I'm getting at most completely. The inside-the-phone-settings. When the sim is in the phone I have bars, but when going to make a call the screen message is "emegency only". Can't try different sims in the L9 because of the need to cut the sim down. Also the L9 is not unlocked, just rooted. My guess is a de-bloatwared rom is the fix. Looking for answers from people more knowledgeable than me which is most likely all of you. Thanks again!
Craigslist, new, boxed, doesn't gurranty they aren't blacklisted.
BUT, the Aria uses a miniSim, the L9 uses a microSim. Did you cut your Sim yourself? It might be misaligned, cut wrong.
It's less than $2 to get it unlocked..
It sounds like its IMEI blocked dude. This can happen with various insurance or installment plan scams, even to brand new devices. There are options to still use the phone, but you are hosed on T-mobile. I have a blacklisted L9 because the previous owner quit paying his EIP, but it's unlocked so I used it on an AT&T MVNO connected to an AT&T MicroCell (I wanted WiFi calling too, but that won't happen with a blacklisted IMEI). Until you've gone to T-Mobile's chat support and ask the if the IMEI is clean, writing long posts in this thread is futile, and it is pretty clear everybody in this thread THINKS they know what they are talking about, but nobody has simply asked T-Mobile about the status of the IMEI, which takes two seconds.
