Does anybody else notice YouTube skipping frames (video only) when it changes the video resolution automatically to compensate for your internet speeds? Is there a setting change that can fix this?
It doesn't matter whether it's increasing or decreasing the resolution (144p, 240p, 360p. 480p, 720p, 1080p). The video freezes for like a second while audio continues as it normally should. Then the video catches up and is in sync with audio again..at least until it changes resolution again.
Noticed it on Sony's stock KitKat, rooted KitKat, and rooted Lollipop firmwares. This doesn't happen to my smartphone which runs on older hardware.

I tried recording 720p and 1080p videos on my SGS2, and the framerate stutters a lot whenever its auto focusing, which happens all the time. Ive seen many 1080p samples churned out by this phone with lots of auto focus and they dont drop a single frame at all. I just got my phone on sunday and its not rooted or modified in any way. Is there some setting i need to adjust or is it a software bug on my set?
Just tried it again in the same environment and same lighting. Was testing the auto focusing this time, didnt pan around too much as well and it seems to work perfectly. So is it just me? Or did i expect too much?
Am having the same problem....fps drops to 10-12 and video stutters like anything.Anyone has a solution
Hi there, I was having some video lagness and playback problem since 2.1 stock rom. I though the incoming 2.3 will help in solving this problem but yet even the performance and speed is greatly improved in 2.3, this problem remains, so I try to seek for some helps regarding this problem here.
There is a weird problem during my video playback, I had put in several types of video ranging from 800*680 to 1920*1080, with different format (mp4, avi, wmv, rmvb) and had serious lagging on certain video. From here I am just going to list out 3 examples of video that have playback issue:
Player used to play these video: default mediascape (2.1), default media player (2.3), mobo player
Location of these video: SD Card (Class 4 16GB, write speed 5mb, read speed 11mb from SDTOOL)
Video A
Size: 1gb
Frame Rate: 23-25
Rate: 0??
Resolution: 1280*720
File Type: mkv
Problem: Heavily lagging and scene freezing as well as unsynchronised audio and video playback. The audio is always faster than the video. At 2.3 firmware, mobo player able to play the video but without audio. When choosing soft-decoding, the video start to lag and audio process faster than video
Video B
Size: 33mb
Frame Rate: 29-30
Rate: 3000
Resolution: 852*480
File Type: wmv
Problem: Lagging when playing video. Screen freezing and frame skipped as the video progress as the playing seems like to maintain video and audio synchronization, video back to normal at last 10 second
Video C
Size: 97mb
Frame Rate: 29-30
Rate (in mobo player): 2398
Resolution: 1280/720
File Type: f4v
Problem: Almost the same as above, video freezing and lagging behind the audio. In 2.1 mobo player able to play it directly but in 2.3 soft decoding is required before playing this video
Is this type of problem occurred due to hardware constraints or software problem? What is the actual constraint on video type/format that x10 can support? I heard from lot people saying their device able to play 720P HD video fine but it is not the case in my device? Please help me on this issue and do let me know if I miss out some informations
Sorry for bringing this post up, help is needed >.<
Or these video need to convert to suit in x10 spec to play smoothly?
Hi,
Does anyone know how to specify a quality in the YouTube app, rather than the default HQ and LQ settings please?
The LQ setting (240p) quality is too low to make anything out.
The HQ setting (480p I assume?) takes too long to load on 3G, and sometimes even Wifi.
So is there any way to change it to another quality in between, like 360p?
Thanks.
Hi,
I am running my SII on 4.0.1 and I am very frustrated with its performance on video recording and playback (the problem existed on the 2.3 OS version too).
Bascally if I try to watch a clip on YouTube (does not matter if I am on wifi on 3G) the movie will start showing nicely but very quickly the sound will continue to run smoothly but the image will freeze and then will jump back to sync with the audio and then freeze again etc. - so you can't see a nice smooth playback. It does not matter if the video is fuly downloaded.
If I record a movie using the camera - I will get a choppy video with freezes. This is really frustrating and I wonder if other have experience the same problem and more importantly if there is a solution for this annoyng problem.
Thanks in advance,
Itay
Got the tab s6 yesterday and having an issue while using YouTube. When playing the video at low res 360p or lower the right side of the video has a lot of judder as if the refresh rate is not syncing up. Happens when rotating to landscape. It only does that in the video itself, not on any other part of the screen. Watching same quality video using a different app, MX player, does not produce the same effect. Just wondering if it's the YouTube app or the tablet itself. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Ended up exchanging the unit at BB. Same thing is happening. To reproduce is you have to have all the animations turned off in the dev options. Although it went away after I enabled msaa 4x and force gpu rendering turned on. So if you have animations off it'll give you a stuffer effect on one side of the screen.
That is not my case, i use YouTube Vanced! No ads, HD and 1440 video playing. Uploading a test video.
