[Q] Data Recovery after formatting :( - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I had recently rooted my phone and then installed CyanogenMod OS on my Samsung S3.
For installing cyanogen it formatted my phone, now I recall that I had some important data in my Mobile Vault app that I want to recover, most of the recovery software are unable to detect the mobile.
When I try to change it to USB mass storage device, it does how up on the PC but I cannot access it.
I had also created a backup image using ROM manager but it too got deleted in the process, if by some method I could get it back or if I can somehow make my phone be discovered as a mass storage device, I might be able to get my data back.
Sorry if I have posted in the wrong section. Any help would be appreciated I am struggling at it since the last 4-5 days.

There are hundreds of identical threads, I've not heard a single success. Sorry.

Well, If your phone is recognized by windows and you can connect as USB maas storage then use windows recovery softwares which can recover your data but it is very much time consuming may be you have to let your phone connected to pc for a day or 2 and if you have luck you will get back all the data. but its a 80:20 game.

[Q] please help ! Pc cannot detect LG optimus one

Hi
I had rooted my LG Optimus one and had deleted some applications with Titanium backup.
Now when i attach my phone to any computer it is not getting detected. i tried resetting the phone to factor default, reloaded drivers and LG pc suite . tried almost everything possible.
It is not even going into usb mass storage mode. The device manager on PC too does not detect any usb conection happening. Everything else on the phone is working fine.
Is that any usb related module on the phone got accidently deleted ?
Whats the possible solution now ?
Have you checked the USB-MASS STORAGE option in SETTINGS-> SDCARD & PHONE STORAGE SETTINGS ?
yes
yes i have done everything . selected mass usb storage too..
the problem is that no PC even detects a USB connection happening when i attach the phone
This happened to me twice now... I just sent it in to the LG service center. The tech guy said he did a "software update" which I took to mean reflashing the original ROM all over again.
I recommend doing a KDZ update if possible then install custom recovery and do a nandroid backup so you will always have a failsafe.
Dont take my word for it yet though... Hopefully someone else can enlighten us. I now use the void custom ROM so that there will be no unnecessary apps on my phone ^_^
Dear all, can any body tell me how much space is required on sd for nandroid backup?
I have limited space on stock sd card.

IIRC, around <500 MB. Each backup you make wont overwrite the last one so watch how many you make. But this is actually a good thing. And each backup type you make (nand, nand + android secure, etc.) also makes its own folder.
Backup and try to restore first to see if it works (backing up the nand+anything else didnt work for me).
Thanks a lot. I believe I'll have to delete some files on sd. And after that I can make a nandroid backup. I also feel we can copy the backup to pc and can use it later if need arises?

I believe so as long as it is in the correct folder where you found it.
What I feared for my phone before was that I cannot do a KDZ update because the PC wouldnt see my phone and I did not have custom recovery installed (nor a backup obviously...). Thats why I sent it to the service center...
When I got it back, I didnt abuse my phone as much (used it for call and text only) until I was finally able to install custom recovery ^_^
Important update
Hi guys
I had gone to the LG service station. Got my phone re-flashed with the latest firmware V10C . But the PC still can't detect the phone .
Now LG is giving me a new handset in exchange. They say its some problem with the hardware.

deleted photos in the interenal storage

like the title says i deleted a whole folder of photos of my daughter by mistake. is there anyway to get them back, anyway! money no oject, they was and are very important to me i am madly saddened.
thank you adam
You can try recovery softwares on your PC like easus data recovery or such. Just plug your phone via usb. Havent tried it though but it wont hurt if you give it a try.

Try this: http://www.squidoo.com/recover-deleted-photos-from-galaxy
Or this: http://www.slideshare.net/Selena201...deleted-photospictures-from-samsung-galaxy-s3
Or: http://www.wondershare.com/data-recovery/android-data-recovery.html
Of utmost importance is that you immediatly stop using your phone until you are ready to use a tool to recover files
since any activity runs the risk of overwriting the photo data.
However I'm not sure if any of the tools really work on the S3. Reason being that the internal storage where the photos are often (but not always) located is not USB-mountable on the S3 (regardless of what some articles linked here claim, it's not true, Easy-UMS can only mount the external SDcard)
The data exchange protocol (MTP) on the S3 is not able to restore files, you'd need a tool which runs on the phone itself and has full root access. I'm not aware of any such tools, especially not working ones. This does however not mean you should give up.
You can take a backup of the EXT4 partition through dd so you can attempt to restore it on the computer while continuing to use the phone.
On a sidenote; can anyone confirm the S3 is not using TRIM on it's SSD? Since that whould effectively make any restore attempts pointless due to the data already having been physically wiped a long time ago.
I had this issue too and spoke to Samsung Directly..there is no way to do this on INTERNAL memory! external yes
I did that last week
So the solution is download undelete pro from Market and it will recover 98% of your lost photos & Videos, but keep in mind that you shouldn't use your storage meaning take photos, copy files, etc... just straight to market install the app and it will do an almost perfect job.
Hope this helps.

[Q] Can not connect to Kies after installing Only One ROM

Refering to this ROM install http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1669170, I for the life of me cannot get my phone to connect to Kies after installing this ROM. I've searched the the forms and have tried all the suggestions but still nothing works. I just want to put my phone contacts back on using Kies since that's where I backed up my pictures and contacts. I've updated the device drivers using windows automatic update and it updated to wpdusb and wudfrd .sys drivers. My computer indicates all drivers and devices installed and I see my phone listed on windows explorer. I've formated internal and external sd cards, I've mounted and unmounted internal external sd cards. Under this rom I can't find where to select Keis mode for the USB connection, all I can find is a USB utility which just gives option to download to computer. Please help!!!!
I believe to have to be on stock for it to connect

I suggest you get a different ROM. That ROM is old, buggy, and the base stolen from a real Dev.

Thanks for the link but these ROM's are not for my phone. Did a search for Energy (Energy ROM, which is the ROM's by NRG) in Android Development forum for my phone ATT Galaxy Note but nothing found. Looks like he makes these ROM's for the HTC phones. His ROMs look totally awesome though.

Try flashing back to stock 4.0.4 ICS and it should be able to connect again. Here's a link for the .tar file. Just use Odin to flash it and make sure repartition is OFF.. this is a good .tar to keep stored. This is how I always revert to REAL At&t ics stock.

Kies looks for binaries that are not altered, especially those without super user access, which all custom roms have.
Additionally, kies looks for the 3e recovery when it connects, which is lost upon flashing of CWM/TWRP..
Stock roms and recoveries will restore kies function....g
Thanks guys and I hit you both up on the thanks meter, I will do this and take your advice. Once I get all my contacts which are backed up on Kies restored I will sync to google so I won't have to rely on Kies. This way If I use a custom ROM I can get access to and restore my contacts pic, and vid's without Kies, should have done this in the first place.

[Q] I installed a new CWM via CWM and lost EVERYTHING! Please Help!

I was installing the new RR KitKat via clockworkmod but got an error stating "set_metadata_recursive: some changes failed". I goggled it and many people were saying I need to get a newer version of CWM. Since I usually install things by booting CWM I thought there couldn't be too much harm in installing this new CWM via my old CWM. Boy was I wrong. Everything in my internal storage was deleted. Literally said 11.78GB of 11.78GB free. My heart skipped a beat. Videos? Gone. Music? Gone. Pictures? Gone (still hurts). Even my nandroid backups and titanium backups were erased. Surprisingly, despite this, my phone and apps work perfectly well.
Thank God I made it a point to use onenote and google task to write down my notes or else I'd be crying behind a glass wall of emotion right now.
Is there anything I can do to get my stuff back?
You can use usb mode of your phone and connect to your computer as a usb drive, then you can use a software like recuva and scan for deleted things. Recuva is free as far as i know, you can use any software that rescues deleted files.

Backup images from the phone

Respected by mistake, I reset the phone to factory settings.
So on that occasion I lost pictures, videos, viber pictures, messages and sms.
So I'm wondering how I can get back to my phone or computer.
And is it possible to set the phone as a usb device or sd card so that all the data on the computer is restored to the software (I managed to recover the data from the deleted usb from the usb device using recuva applications and the like)
Thanks

What you intend to achieve requires 1. the phone is rooted and 2. USB-Debugging is successfully enabled. Both requirements fulfilled?

The phone is rooted once but I'm not sure if it's done well.
So I should root it and then try with some apps to find the lost files in the phone?

I apologize: Device must NOT be rooted.
Carrying out a Factory Reset all your device data get wiped out, means you end up losing all your important user data before it is backed up. However, Factory Reset does not affect the external SD-card in any way. So, even if you have the SD card inserted with videos, images, documents and any other personal information in the Android device while carrying out a Factory Reset, everything will remain safe and intact.
Factory Reset is neither the best option anyway.
As long as after the Factory Reset no apps etc.pp. got installed on Android device, there is a chance you can recover deleted user data - but only if the related storage memory didn't get overwritten in between. So instead of recovering deleted files from Android without computer by an Android file recovery app, which could potentially overwrite the deleted files when the app is installed, you have a better chance to recover the deleted files with a desktop Android data recovery application on your computer. Dozens of those Windows applications are available, simply do a Google search for those.
I tried the root phone but failed.
Does anyone know how to root this model?
Thank you
