I was on soak test 5.0.2 before going to 5.1.1 custom ROMs... I restored to stock 4.4.4, and got the 5.1 notification...
MY QUESTION IS:
IS IT SAFE TO ACCEPT THE OTA? Will it brick my device?

Yeah ni Brick happens maybe,
AFAIK bootloader upgraded in 5.0.2 big update, so cant tell what happens, and if u used custom ROMs, then u cant live with Stock ROM anymore. Im sure you will restore that backup after trying Stock rom, IMHO wait for twrp backup of FINAL OTA and try that, not make any drastic steps now bcoz the device is year older so we have no Warranty now.. ...

Hey thanks bro, but I restored to 4.4.4 yesterday, got the OTA.... And guess what!!!!
I am running official 5.1 on my phone now... No brick has occurred, everything is smooth.
I have never taken such a serious and risky step before in my life! :fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:
But I can guarantee you and other fellow XDA members
Don't be afraid to install 5.1 OTA after restoring to stock 4.4.4 from 5.0.2
It actually works, since it Motorola has made it official.
Two things to note though....
The bootloader has been updated
The partition tables have been updated
The recovery is no longer the Kitkat one (as seen in 5.0.2 soaks)
Oh and BTW, if someone wants to get back to 4.4.4 for some reason, then he CAN, by flashing all the firmware files of 4.4.4 EXCEPT the bootloader and the partition. He will also get the OTA and install it fine. Just tried it tomorrow.
Peace!

Why do you want the TWRP backup, you can just revert to stock and get the OTA.

I have made the backup, ready to be flashed....
Here are two things to do prior to installing
Do a backup of the previous ROM
Wipe Everything
Now install, and as soon as it completes setup, DO A FACTORY RESET (it gave bootloops, so I am requesting).
And another interesting thing, if you change the language to English US, the new Boot animation appears
I will definitely upload by tomorrow...
Thanks for the patience

I had already made a back up just before rooting and after that I rooted, installed xposed etc.....When I got the stock recovery today I tried to restore the back up I had taken but same thing happened to me ....it didn't boot......stopped at android is starting then I forced switch off and rebooted to twrp and did a factory reset and then it booted ........
Initially it was showing the old animation (I had selected English (india) as language) but when I flashed the stock recovery , the animation changed to new one and I checked the bootanimation file is the same but I got the new one.....now when I flashed twrp again bootanimation stays as new one
Thanks for the upload again
I bet you both will back to Custom ROM again sooon, you all wasting time [emoji14]

Hey guys i've found a tutorial on youtube to unlock the bootloader of k4 note and rooting it for android marshmallow 6.0. I think this is the only tutorial on net to show how to unlock the bootloader of k4 note marshmallow.
here the link-
[Marshmallow] Install Custom/TWRP recovery on Lenovo K4 note/A7010a48
This is the Rooting video
so guys i want to know that,
after unlocking bootloader can i do OTA updates? can i get notifications for OTA updates as i am getting before?
what happens with the lenovo stock recovery? am i be able to do OTA updates using custom recovery?
can i use flashfire on my phone? and can i install CM 11 on my phone? and can i go back to lollipop using flashfire(if yes pls tell me how)?
when i install any other rom on my phone then can i do OTA updates and if i revert back to stock rom then what happens with the custom recovery?
does custom recovery can do OTA updates? like, after flashing custom roms can i get notifications of new software update, and can i update them from settings>about>software update. (can i do OTA updates when i am running custom rom in my phone?)
Flashfire can be used in place of sp flash tools or other pc tools?
sorry but in all those cases i am a noob(not fully), but i really need the answers.
and i really need you guys to look in that tutorials, are they safe?
and i hope answers of this questions will help other new users too. Thanks in advance.
I also want the answers
No replies, i really need the answers guys
At first, I don't own a Lenovo K4, nor I owned any Lenovo Device. The following answers should be correct, but (in case of need) I now say that I'm not responsible for any Hard- or Software-Damage
NOTICE: If that is the phone you want to get bricked, follow all these Video-Tutorials above and the Steps below and make as many typos and mistakes as you can and you'll have the best chances to brick your device!
* I don't know what happens to OTA Updates after unlocking, as its dependent on the Manufracturer (hope I wrote that right), but most likely you won't get any OTA Updates
* Stock recovery should stay
* I don't know flashfire, but to use any flashing apps (I think it is one), your device has to be rooted
* You can install CM11 on your phone, if it's availabe for your model, either official or unofficial. Of course, you need a Custom Recovery
* Custom ROM OTA Updates are dependent on the ROM, for example CyanogenMod gets OTA Updates, if it's officially supported
* For reversing back to Stock ROM, you would need the system image for flashing, but it should work in General
* As mentioned above, I don't know Flashfire and it's functions, but I think, that no App can replace a PC program, because a pc program also works in case of a Phone Failure
Remember to hit Thanks if this was useful

And also stock recoverys aren't available online separately so you get rid of downloading 1.4+1.4 GB files over internet only for getting ota updates

Sorry, no offense. I just don't like to be spoon fed. Someone might give me the 'wrong food' and then my phone is bricked. I like to be in control of what I'm doing. That's why I have most ADB and fastboot commands in my head to be easily typed in the console! Fastboot is such a relief for me compared to the old days, when I was forced to use Windows to be able to use Odin for my Samsung Galaxy Mini... (which was running on CM6!).
And about stock recoveries: they are only usable for stock roms! I always make sure that I have a working stock rom as a 'backup'. If, for some reason, I have to go back to stock (that'll be always temporary), I usually leave out the command 'fastboot flash recovery recovery.img' to retain TWRP.
But yeah, there are always people that just root their stock rom and don't use a custom rom. And then they are surprised that their stock OTA won't install...
For me, stock roms are always outdated and very limited in use...

Either if someone is spoonfeeds you it is your duty to always check what he is feeding you it didn't harm your device.
And talking about the custom roms and stock ROMs in many cases people trust stock ROMs so they don't face any hessale in emergency( like network drop,GPS problems) and also they want root previlages in stock ROM to use some stuff.
But when the updates for stock ROMs arrived many users even don't know why they are unable to update so I made this stock recovery flasher for those people who always love updated stock ROM with root access
And talking about custom ROM for moto these are not much differ from stock (like xiaomi phones) so many people use stock ROMs with moto. And also we can get 70 % of custom ROM features with apps having root so it doesn't make a difference

Yes, you're right there's an 'audience' for this! So your scripts are useful for a lot of people.
I've always been a strange guy: I don't like upgraded but always outdated roms (Android 7.0 vs Android 7.1.2 and security patch level from 1st of January vs 5th of may).
Since there's CyanogenMod/LineageOS I've been using that, with the occasional escapade to the Resurrection Remix, AOKP, and Vanir. Last rom on my previous device was Invicta by @Silesh.Nair / @double_facepalm. Unfortunately not available for the G5 Plus...

OH developers please port a rom to oppo a57
its an awsome device its got 3gb ram snapdragon 435 and 720 p display please guys port it colour os sucks help needed
OP, I know you posted this in the find5 thread as you wanted them to port the rom from this phone but since it's for the a57 I assume this technically isn't the right place to do it, anyhow:
From what I can tell Oppo has restricted access to the bootloader on these phones and we still don't have a working root method. Until either one of these circumstances changes it is unlikely that any development can begin for these phones.
If any senior devs out there have skills in reverse engineering, I would be more than happy to donate to the cause or maybe even flash your betas because at this stage what I have is a well spec'd phone that's as useful as a brick thanks to Oppo's abhorrent ColorOS. I just want root or an unlocked bootloader.
I'm offering $25aus as a starting point and I'm sure others would get on board with me since we all spent the equivalent of $300aus for a P.O.S phone.

Can confirm rooting method works but it seems like it corrupts your NV partition. Make sure you've taken a backup of yours before proceeding. Check back as we nut out a solution.
I currently have my phone rooted and TWRP installed but the bootloader still needs to be unlocked or a tool similar to magictricks.zip needs to be made to enable/install fastboot binaries on this device.
Anyone here familiar with doing this?
I can provide you with backups of the file system.
Let's get these phones free, next stop roms.

From what I've read, there isn't a high likelihood of us getting fastboot. The main reason bootloader unlocking was possible with previous models was due to Oppo's release of 'project spectrum' firmware.
Our best approach is to make our voices heard on the Oppo forums and/or learn about reverse engineering bootloaders to create a solution.
I'm grateful that we have root (at a cost of signal), it's an excellent starting point at least. Have patience.
