Hi. I'm new to this forum that I searched for an answer to my question which goes like this: Is there a REAL file manager (similar to Windows Explorer or Free Commander XE or Total Commander for PC) that shows ALL directories and files on my Windows Phone 8.1, including system files on drive C: (the SD card being called drive D: )? So far, I tried "Files", "Folders Free", "Metro Commander" and others - they all are not satisfying my requirements. Thanks for your inputs.
Which app is good? When I download a file ,then open store, but idk which app is good to open the file.

@veryfunny: Not really, for the same reason that there's no such app (at least, without jailbreaking) on iPhones: Microsoft has locked down access to the file system.
The closest app I know of is my own WebServer app. That one lets you request any file system path, and if it can read the path it will display the contents. If it can't display it, you'll get a message about error code 5 (ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED).
Hi GoodDayToDie
Thanks for your explanations. Sounds like Microsoft is developping the same proprietary behaviour like Apple...
I downloaded your own webserver from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=43364277#post43364277 and copied it onto the download directory on the phone. However, as I'm pretty new to Windows Phone 8.1, I do not know how to install it. Would you please let a greenhorn know? Thanks so much!

Hello all,
I have found WORKING little app to save CABs from MarketPlace. You can download the app here:
http://blog.idlezone.org/post/2010/01/11/Windows-Mobile-MarketPlace-:-choose-where-to-install
(use fixed version posted in the comments of the article: http://blog.idlezone.org/public/DarkApps/DarkCABCatcherInstaller_quickfix.CAB)
Awsome, thanks for posting ! =d
Thank you So So So Much
Will
Works it also for paid apps?
doesnt work for me.
Awsome, How do you work this thing.
When I run DarkCABCatcher, I have set fom folder to \.\Application Data\Volatile to \.\My Documents.
The DarkCABCatcher application shows the following:
MKP5C5036.cab OK!
MKP5C5036.cab installed.
MKP5C5036.cab started.
MKP5C5036.cab copy Ok.
When I look in my \.\My Documents folder there is no .cab file collected.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Richard
Thanks !
I never used MarketPlace yet, but just in case, I'll keep that trick handy and try it.
I don't understand their position on "piracy", since I generally only use free software...
When it's not free, I buy the licenses, but since I'm flashing a lot these months, I really doubt MarketPlace would recognize my device next time I log on, so this trick may be unvaluable... Just to keep access to what I had legally bought.
Thanks for this, but unfortunately on cooked WM6.5 portuguese ROM it doesn't work. I confirmed that I have NetFW3.5 installed so I don't know what's wrong:
What a pity - don´t work at all on T-Mobile Vario V (HTC TouchPro2) with Windows Mobile 6.5.
Sometimes it write the cab is copied - but can´t find it in the destination folder.
Sometimes it just don´t show anything.
Yours

Cool app, didn't work
The critical thing this app shows is where the temporary CAB files are downloaded when installing from the Marketplace app.
Just open this folder in Windows Explorer while the phone is connected to your device. You have to turn on "view hidden and system folders" to see the folder on your phone.
Wait and watch the folder during the install. It will create a CAB file, which will get an icon as soon as the file is finished writing to the device. Quickly copy the file off the phone onto your computer.
(I have installed z-zip and associated CAB files with the program, which is why I get a nice icon as soon as the download has finished.)

but on the 7zip download site, there is definitely an item labelled "7-Zip for Windows Mobile / Windows CE (ARM)" and it seems to work - not perfectly, but still - on my HD2
Still no solution. WOW! i guess i just have to extract the files via a PC. Meanwhile I will try find a solution to make our HD2 extract 7zip files.
I found that it was easier to just use it on the pc than piss about with it on the phone, not a particularly useful app I must say.....
I use the attached version as stated earlier it is by no means perfect but does work.
thank you lantern 20 i will give this cab. provided a try.
I've found it does work but is dependant on file size and what size of data you're trying to extract, eg, extracting kernels for android is no problem, whereas trying to extract a full android build is a no go, maybe due to the program needing full extracted data size to work with as a temp folder during extraction???

TalkBox - how to get voice messages from iphone to pc
In order to copy voice messages created by talkbox app from your iOS device all you have to do is to gain access to your device file system with any free software (I used iExplorer ). acess your device and you will see at the root file system the directory User->Applications and there all you application data is stored - one of them is TalkBox (you will recognize it by enter every folder and check for the folder that finish with '.app' or see the icon of the application inside it). all the messages are in [talkbox-folder-id]->Documents->Audio at caf files (Core Audio Format). export it easily with your software to your pc. Cheers and Good Luck !

Hi
This all sounds really good as i have a deceased friend and wanting desperately to switch / access / back up talk box voice messages between my devices.
All was stored on my samsung galaxy s3 and now i have an s5 things are proving a little tricky so could you please brake down these instructions for me so i can successfully access them from the root.
I can access them in the device but only in the .ilbc format..
Thanks in advance
The point is, when i download some xap file directly on my phone q how this file can be copied to the pc ?
I tried almost evrything, nothing work. ITried with storage enabler, with bluetooth, both ways the xap is invisible. I tried to put it in music folder ( i can see her from my PC) via storage enabler, but the file is sitting hidden . Tried to rename it , same thing - nothing.

it doesnt interrupts between buzzz.
use program manager to create xap of the installed app..
just open prog manager tap on the app name you want to pack it in xap.
then click on pack( at the bottom third option)
the only thing is that u've to wait for some time after clicking on pack.
i've packed gun bros game approx. about 186 mb,prog manger took 4 min. to pack it to xap...
the only con is that when u install that xap created by prog manager,,market place shows update for that app...it is not necessary to update...but its the only thing that is to be said as cons for program manager
and one more thing all the created xaps are located at Applications/data/12345678-87BF-4D87-A529-0DFF41EFD592/isolatedstore/data/xap/..
copy these xap to safe place...happy xapping...

As i said at the begining, my phone is unlocked, but i havent access , at least vis storage enabler. I cant make WDMC work properly at all and i dont know the other way .
I couldn't make my WMDC work too but I was installing it about 20 times and finally I got it ^^ Everytime there was a message: unrecognized device - device unplugged but I don't know how I got it.
If you still can't do this, you have your xap files as debugger told you before where so now you can do everything with it.
For example you can download from Bazaar Move to cloud and then with it you just sent your files to SkyDrive and on pc just download them
Doesnt work at all. Severel times i reinstall.....
I am desperred already, will reinstall all windows, but here the question is What to install first - Zune , Nokia care suite, then WDMC?
What would be better to order of installation ?
after installing zune and wmdc, u need to install qualcomm drivers....go to nand access thread and download appropriate drivers for x86 or x64...
I think there is another way to get your xaps on pc. I downloaded WebServer from Bazaar and you just run it and on PC you type IP as a webpage adress and you can manage your phone from PC so I think you can download files too. I only copied an aplication to my phone but think this will work too.

Woow, i didnt knew about this awesome app. Now install it and open all my windows folders and files. The issue here is how to find exactly one file he he . But will search one by one.
I found the xap , but when i try to download for example the game fruit ninja which is 19 mb, id give me file 19 kb.
See the prtscr
I checked the screenshot and I see that you want to download file from temporary Internet Explorer files.
This is xap, so firstly - install it, next - make xap from installed app/game (with Program Manager) and then try to download this file.
Your file will be in Applications\Data\12345678-(...)\Data\IsolatedStore\Xap and you have to move it to Applications\Data\9BFACECD-(...)\Data\IsolatedStore

Greetz,
Download & install Store Apps from P.C. using- "Windows Phone Assistant"
hey! this is the leaked app_ Windows Phone Assistant by Nawzil. you can use this to install the windows phone apps via P.C.
it is specially useful if u have to download heavy apps and at a faster speeeeed.....
Great App works like a charm
Ugh, native code (hard to decompile). No idea what it's doing under the hood. Wants to run as Administrator. Sounds pretty sketchy all around...
Does it just download the app and copy it to your phone's SD card, or something? You realize you can just do that with a web browser, right?
No access to c:\Downloads\MTPTransferredAppProcessorDropFolder with web browser,

Publisher is Microsoft corporation, so it is safe to say they do stuff that is unavailable to the user.
PS: this should be removed. You can download and open any appx/xap from the marketplace. Nice copyright protection there.
I believe these xap must be like normal zip files that we download similar to the pc deployment method but I found that these xaps are also encrypted. That's sad

@titi66200: Pretty sure you can access the on-phone Downloads folder via MTP (I forget though, it's been a while since I had to make do with "official" MTP access). You can definitely access it with an on-device file browser like Aerize Explorer. Maybe the MTPTransferredAppProcessorDropFolder subfolder is hidden or something, though...?
Yes MTPTransferredAppProcessorDropFolder is hiden, on my 830 access via mtp is ok.
But no MTP on my 1020
@mcosmin222: They aren't encrypted *on the store*. That's no a feature, bug, or hack of the tool; that just "MS didn't bother to encrypt APPX". You can download (unencrypted!) APPX bundles straight from http://www.windowsphone.com/. Here's a random example, right off the page for the currently-first app in the spotlight list: http://www.windowsphone.com/en-us/s...f6-4262-a3c7-1b9565d5d7b4/xap?apptype=regular Despite the URL implying it's a XAP, it's actually a .appxbundle file. Open that as a ZIP archive, and you'll find a few (plaintext) XML files and a bunch of (unencrypted) .APPX files. Open one of *them* as a ZIP, and you'll find a bunch of plaintext metadata files and plaintext binaries.
I'm as anti-piracy as anybody on this forum, but MS isn't even *trying* to secure these files. You can download them, unauthenticated, unencrypted, straight off the world wide web.
Yeah, I'm going to close this thread. Much shady happenings here.
