Hi folks, can anyone point me in the right direction for a stock uk o2 rom?
I have been asked to look at my brother in law's S740 but am beginning to think something is corrupt. I have a thread in the general section if anyone wants a look.
If one is not available, is there a generic english ROM around?
Many thanks.
EDIT: I did find on, linked to from this board but unavailable. I found the same file elsewhere, but it told me it was the wrong one when I tried to flash it.
Hey,
Odd it won't install if you really have an Orange. I tried it on my 'Asia' S740 and it gave me the same error but now that HardSPL is available thanks to jocky2001 I was able to install the Orange S740 rom! I thought update had failed because it stuck at a generic 'Operator' boot screen FOREVER but eventually it did finish booting & initial setup. Bad news is that although the rom seems to work I can't get a signal. Perhaps the radio has been highly customized for Orange, not sure. The odd thing is everywhere I've looked says the Orange S740 is Quad band & even shows 850/1900 on spec pages but those are not even options in band selector.. Anyhow, if you want to give the Orange ROM a shot, try jocky2001's hardspl (worked for me) and maybe you'll at least get it installed.
Bill
Thanks Bill.
To be honest, I don't know what operator it was on before I was asked to look at it, as it was found discarded in the box with all the bits - in a bin!!!
Maybe thats why.
Are the orange ones branded as such? This has no branding apart from the HTC emblem.
Wow lucky you! Hey I think I lost my S740 near that bin.. You might install jocky2001's hardspl then at least try the Orange UK & Asia ROM's. Both roms refused to install on my S740 (HTC told me it originated in Singapore but even Asia ROM refused to intall) but after hardspl I can install either rom.
As far as branding, I've not seen an Orange S740 & the Orange site shows no logos or such but I will tell you the Orange logos display on bootup after installing the Orange ROM vs just HTC logos with the Asia ROM. They do seem to have different apps installed by default but didn't dig too deep to determine which. Pretty sure the Asia ROM auto-configured data settings for me but the Orange one required connection wizard cab although it didn't help much without a signal.
Btw mine says ROSE100 FCC ID:NM8RSV P/N: 99HFB012-00 behind battery if that helps
So does yours even boot or stuck at bootloader or what does it do to make you think the flashed rom is corrupt? Did you try a hard reset to clear settings? Often that works if someone did/installed something that mucked it up.
Bill
Ps. Here is the link to the ROM's I used. The Asia rom has English (is default actually) & seems to be true Quad band enabled vs the Orange which seems to be just dual band since it doesn't show 850 band & although 1900 is listed it won't connect to it for me even though I know AT&T has 850 & 1900 in my area: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=599520
EDIT: OK seems it does support 1900 but only if you manually select 1900 from band list. I tested with both TMobile & ATT SIM's and get a signal. The ATT signal is weaker than normal though because normally the 850 band is a lot stronger in my area than 1900. Field test confirms it's running on PCS/1900 band not 850. So far I found no way to get 850 to work but odds are there is a way since the radio supports it. (Works with Asia ROM on same phone)
It wasnt the ROM file that I thought was corrupt, it was more a case of trying to refresh / reload the various rom sections back onto the phone as there is nothing in the way of phone signal.
There is an image of the problem in this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=648169 - if you haven't already seen it.
I'll give it another go, but when I tried to flash an asia rom both before and after jocky's SPL it just throws up the "invalid vendor ID" error.
Yeah I assumed you meant the ROM on the phone was bad not the file.
No I hadn't looked at your other thread, I had just posted on this one because it was about the ROM. I get that symbol when I put in a bad/disabled SIM. I think it just means there's no service but emergency calls can still be made if there is a signal. The symbol is different if there is no SIM. Does it give you a 'locked' error indicating it's SIM locked to a carrier? Maybe the SIM slot is bad.. Or maybe the phone was reported stolen so the carrier is blocking it.. Have tried to run fieldtest.exe with a SIM in to see if it is indeed connected to a tower? Not sure what band it'd show for you but for me it is either 850 or PCS even if bad/disabled SIM is installed indicating it does have a signal for at least 911/emergency calls. Anyway, I'd hope you at least did a hard reset clear storage at least already & next do hardspl & install either original orange or Asia rom. I can confirm both posted on xda work on my S740 (aside from lack of 850 band on Orange rom) after installing the hardunlock where they did not work at all (same ID error) before the unlock..
Ok, here's the results of my testing, without having to install Jockey's SPL.
Both ROM's you refer to flashed ok. Obviously I didn't try to hard with the Orange ROM as I dont have an Orange sim to try.
I flashed the Asia ROM with success but still have the problem of no service.
HOWEVER, after having a play with the band and network selection settings, it now asks me to select a network, but the only one listed is T-Mobile.
Again, I only have an o2 sim to try as this is the preferred operator my bro wants.
This now leads me to believe that T-Mobile is the only one listed because it is locked to that carrier.
My assumption may be totally incorrect as my knowledge of phones is pretty much zero, but if this is the case, would you or anyone else know of a way to unlock it pretty much for free, lol, especially now the HardSPL is available.
Sorry, I meant to answer you other questions at the same time.
It could be the slot is bad, and I'm pretty sure it's not been blocked by the carrier as it was found by a cleaner working in an office.
In the bin were the box, phone, CD's, headphones and USB cable.
Even the little square pages of literature were there.
Its almost like it has stopped working and the owner has just taken his / sim out and binned it. !!
There hasnt been any locked error either.
I'll try that fieldtest next.
EDIT: I put the phone down for 10 minutes while typing this and getting fieldtest, only to pick the phone up and now have Orange on the "choose network" screen. I'm going to leave it overnight and see if it can get o2, lol.
Cool you got the roms to install but very strange it would let you without hardspl.. Btw, Orange ROM does not mean you have to use Orange SIM. Note that the Orange ROM has a newer radio which is worth a try too. For testing I'd leave the band stuff on auto unless you're sure you know what you're doing because it's easy to set it to wrong band & assume you get no signal. lol And I'm sure you want O2 but worth trying any valid SIM you can find just to see. But yeah the network select trick is helpful too just to see what is available but it can show different results depending on what SIM is in it, status of that SIM etc. If your phone was locked to a carrier it should tell you so when you 1st boot up with a SIM from a different carrier in it. And after searching I see nowhere that TMobile has ever had branded S740 so doubt seeing just TMobile in list is an indicator of being locked to Tmo.
Sounds like a SIM issue since it is doing the same as when I put a deactivated SIM in. I'd say either the SIM socket/contacts are bad, SIM isn't inserted properly, incompatible SIM (maybe they are super old?) or possibly the phone had damage to either antenna or water damage that ruined something. The more SIM's you try the better to narrow it down, especially if you were able to get your hands on an active Orange SIM.
Of course it's possible the phone's IMEI has been blacklisted as stolen & that is causing your phone to not be able to register on a network with SIM installed. From everything I've read when a phone is blacklisted it'll either say an error about not being able to register with network or simply show no signal as if a deactivated SIM was installed. I'd say if that is the case they'll come knocking on your door since they'll trace it back to your account. hehe US carriers don't seems to partake in the blacklist system so feel free to ship it to me & I'll test it here for you.
Well, just to close this thread.
I tried various ROM's available from this site and none worked.
I did have limited success as posted above but overall, nothing. The phone has now gone back to the person who asked me to look into it and to my knowledge he is going to sell it to one of these phone reclaim companies.
I did check and one place, I think throught the post office, is offering £80 ish so not bad I suppose.
Anyway, thank you to all who have made suggestions and wotnot. Personally I'm still happy with an old Nokia 6300 and my Wizard (Mini-S)
Thanks folks.
Just wondering if anyone has seen or tried to develop a baseband switcher application like the one found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1203297 so the Photon can work on all US/international CDMA/GSM networks?? Out of the box it has(CDMA 850/1900-GSM 850/900/1800/1900-WCDMA 850/1900/2100-Wimax 2500).. but no 1700 T-MO..I have a Photon but no use for it since im using T-Mobile..Perhaps unlocking and a baseband switcher would enable me to use this amazing phone on any US GSM network like my Moto Defy Ive been using this app and Itfunz for international travel and im amazed how well my phone works on almost every GSM band in the US and around the globe.....Anyone?? This Phone with Root,CM7 and a "working" baseband switcher would be untouchable!!
Im on sprint so no real need for the switcher but i would love to see this come to life. I can make my brother jealous and steal his sim card.
I would love that
I am in the Dominican Republic and have not been able to find any alternative baseband versions to flash, since 3G (850 Mhz Band) stopped working a few days ago.
I´ve reflashed to stock, tried different roms and kernels, but i guess if i can swith the baseband version it might work again.
This app would be awesome, anyone tried it on the photon yet?
Any News On This?
I tryied it - doens help me.... I created activity which is switch's baseband and turn it to USA gms baseband.... I lost connection :-((( and can't repair it :-((((
please help :-((( baseband switcher says "your baseband setting are incorrect. would you like to reset it to defaults?". I answer Yes and it reboots with old settings and don't work :-(
maybe somebody knows a way to reset baseband settings?

what sbf stands for? I just bought the phone and my reason to buy it was the sim card ability I would like to use it on my trips to Mexico and I would very much love to be able to nuy a sim card from a Mex. carrier and use that way.
I believe you can. I forget the post where somebody gave the name of the sim card they used...
You may need to contact Sprint to get international use activated, I believe at no charge.
Sent from my MB855 using xda premium
any update on this one? Agree the photon would be unstoppable if able to use on us gsm networks...

Does anyone know how to unlock RAT access on this version (it is "restricted" in the menu accessed via *#*#197358640#*#*, *#*#4636#*#* does nothing iether), or any type of hack or exploit that can disable TEMPORARILY the Galaxy Note's ability to even detect the presence of any network below 4G? My phone is an AT&T branded device, is NOT currently rooted, and running stock ROM version 2.3.6 (latest update from AT&T) I am not a newb with rooting and such, but would prefer not to root unless no other option exists. Can I use any toys in BackTrack 5 (if you dont know what this is, ignore that I wrote it here ) to access the Note's ROM by chance???
Kernel: 2.6.35.11
OS: 2.3.6
baseband: I717UCLA1
Gingerbread
Cheers!
Have tried the same thing by every means I can think of ...
Sadly I've not been successful either. Including root access and 3 different roms. I've not found any method to get below 4g on my ATT note.
Edge is what I need inside my office to get basic service. But I'm failing.
Sorry this isn't a solution, but your not alone in your search.
I've pm'ed a few devs and requested a possible patch to toggle the network switches, and I'll post a reply here if a patch can be found ....g

I decided to go ahead and ROOT> used ODIN. Still stock ROM, still no joy in controlling network bands manually.
Right. Like the service menu says-- restricted
3 roms I'm aware of have these network switches ....and none of them function.
I'm not sure if development is going around them as a non-issue, or the code hasn't been cracked yet.
But I'm seriously considering dropping the note for my inspire, as no service in my office is a show stopper.
I'll give it another month ....then it's bye bye note, and hello 2g in my office that works .....g
The Canadian rom/modem for Rogers is rumored to have a working switch, but all at&t modems are RAT restricted so no developer attacks that issue. Too bad. I want the option.

well,
we have the rom...and we have the modem....
So I guess the question is...If we load up the rogers rom/modem, and set the PTA apn settings from ATT, will it run well enough to test ?
Looks like I've got my evening planned.......LOL
I suppose I could import the stock rom APN's ( all 1352 of them ) into the rogers rom, and have a fighting chance anyway....g
I always fancied a free evening to try it. I almost did yesterday, then Flapjaxxx put out an update.

A friend of mine has NFC tags in his breifcase that shuts down his SG3 and then he uses an older phone (a Blackberry) in the office.

Effective...but 2 phones ??
What a drag to have two devices every day....
now I gotta wonder, how come I can take my Note sim card, drop it into my inspire, and have every band available and a switch to pick them.
But when I put that card into my note, I'm forced to do the network bounce all day, and no switch with a RAT restriction ??
Is this an onboard chipset that is blocking this feature ?
What is RAT, and how do i kill it ?..:good:..LOL.....g
The modem.bin is the file that defines the way the modem chip interfaces with the rom (sort of). At&t has restricted access to the usual features of the modem like the band selection option.
The Rogers modem isn't restricted. But the rom developer has to include the band selection in the rom, or the user has to select from the service menu. The band selection apps in the market are just a shortcut to the service menu.
Well...
I attempted the Canada rom/modem combo last night. and to be honest, I didnt get past the setup screens.
the phone hung on those screens, and I had to power down and boot recovery to restore.
I'm very surprised that It froze with just a modem...but it's without doubt a different animal...
I'll try again on the rom only, as i've used it before without issue, then see what parts I can bleed into the rogers modem prior to flashing again....g
Well, I flash the latest from flapjaxxx. Love the ROM, and the UCLF6 modem is a bit faster. Still no control of bandwidth frequency, but I am so happy with the baked OS, that I can tolerate it for a while. Still on the lookout for working options, but I don't want to run my Flash binary through the roof iether.... Using TWRP btw, I cant stand CWM.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but has anyone found out how to unlock the RAT menu for ICS?
Saurom 2.3.6 actually lets me switch between HSPA and LTE successfully, but I would like to be able to do this in ICS.
Thanks!
As long as you use a stock at&t modem it will have the RAT restriction.
I'm in Japan for this year and I've just purchased a B-Mobile Free Data Sim (with voice), and while I can use the phone service, I can't use Data. After looking at b-mobile's GUARANTEED to work devices (bmobile.ne.jp/english/devices.html) other versions of the Galaxy S2 are listed, but not the i9100. However, in the list of acceptable bands, the following is written:
"Your device must support one of the following frequency
LTE Band 1 (2100MHz), Band 19 (800MHz), Band 21 (1500MHz)
W-CDMA/HSDPA/HSUPA Band 1 (2100MHz), Band 19 (800MHz)"
My Galaxy i9100T (From Vodaphone) should, as far as I know, support the W-CDMA Band 1 (2100MHz), but nonetheless, I can't use data.
I've made sure my APN settings are 100% correct, as according to the bmobile website.
Should I give up on trying to make this work, or is there some way I can get this going? Is there a particular radio or modem I can flash in order to get better connectivity? Otherwise I'm planning on buying a second hand Galaxy SC-02C or something which is on the list of devices guaranteed to work and relatively inexpensive. If you are knowledgeable on this subject, please lend a hand.
If there's any other information you require about my phone, please let me know.
Cheers
To the best of my knowledge, the phone wasn't sold there by carriers (neither the I9100 or the T), so there's no stock roms released by carriers in the country, and no modems bundled with those stock roms which would have been tested with the carrier's network as would normally be the case.
Sooo....You're probably stuck with trying a bunch of different modems unless a search throws up someone who's posted saying they had good connectivity with whatever modem on that network. If it was me, given the other relatively cheap option you mentioned (and my lack of patience with this sort of thing these days), I'd be buying the other phone if having a working phone without fuss was important to me (which it is).
Cheers,
I managed to get it working, on a stroke of luck. Flashing a few different modems didn't seem to get it connected, but after looking more extensively through the japanese version of the site, i found this page (bmobile.ne.jp/devices/setting_other_androidos.html) which suggested an alternative server to connect to for the APN (dm.jplat.net instead of mobile.ne.jp), even though this is the only page it seems to have this alternative server listed on. My reception isn't amazing, so maybe I'll continue as you suggested, flashing modems, until I can get better reception. Thanks for your help .
Anyway, for anyone who happens to have a similar problem, please try connecting to the above server and see if it works for you.
Hey everyone!
I bought a new S6 Edge from Amazon. Upon receiving the phone, I've noticed that it seems to have been made for the UAE.
Model: SM-G925F
Andriod: 5.0.2
BB Ver.: G925FXXU1AOC1
Kernel: 3.10.61-4260274
BUILD: LRX22G.G925FXXU1AOC
I currently live in Canada, and use Freedom mobile (AWS - B4 1700/2100) and this phone is not picking up service.
I'd like to know, is it possible to configure the modem to accept this frequency band? In the past I hacked the Qualcomm modem in my GS4 to accept this band.
I am unsure if this is a software or hardware limitation for this model, as I have tried dozens of times to root (in hopes I can modify baseband) - and have soft bricked 6 times. I've also looked into changing the CSC with Odin, but every time I try to flash anything but stock ROM I get soft bricked again...
I've been working on this for about 5 hours now, with no luck. Anyone able to enlighten me if I'm wasting my time?
Thanks a million in advance.
Edit: Looks like it's going to be easier to switch to literally ANY other carrier. This model supports every other band except UMTS B4. Maybe I can jump back on Freedom/Wind once they release LTE in the fall.
