[Q] "No Servicce" and "Baseband Unknown" after flashing CM 11 on i9300 - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

[Q] "No Servicce" and "Baseband Unknown" after flashing CM 11 on i9300
BACKGROUND:
The plan was to flash Resurrection Remix for S3 and go from stock JB to Lollipop on my GT i9300. However, incessant bootlooping made me change my mind and I decided to settle for CM11. CM11 works like a charm except that I have "No Service" problem and "Baseband Unknown". I did do a Nandroid backup prior to all this.
WHAT HAVE I DONE SO FAR?
I was reading up on this and similar threads show that I must flash a modem. There was a list of modems on another XDA thread but it stated that these will work with stock JB only so no luck there.
How do I get the phone to recept the signal again?
MISC:
ROM: cm-11-20150323-NIGHTLY-i9300
Recovery : twrp-2.8.6.0-i9300
Region : India

I´ve had the exact same issue. After not having signal with Blekota Note 4 Lite V4, tried installing CM 11 and now I have no baseband. No solution yet.

Flash full stock firmware for your country then factory reset. If still the same then restore your efs backup.

Solved it. However, WhatsApp no longer works. It doesn't send me an SMS verification after having switched back to stock from CM 11. Thoughts?

Flash CM over MJ9

Like many, I am extremely disappointed with Samsung's attempt to bring 4.3 to the S3 and am on the verge of switching to CM 10.2 from a stock ROM. The ROM is rooted with a yank555 kernel and philZ recovery.
However, upon reading this forum; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2531221 and several others like it, I realised I may or may not run into an EFS or no network issue. I have the stable 10.2 and 4.3 Gapps ready to install via ROM Installer.
Is it only if the android version is downgraded that any form of EFS error could occur? As 10.2 is based off 4.3, I thought it would work fine and flash as it did when I ran stock 4.1.2 but wanted to double check.
Thanks for your time.

Data connection lost since last night

Hi.
This morning I realized that I had no data connection in my SGS2. No E, no 3G, no H, no H+. Unable to connect to the internet. WiFi works seamlessly.
I was using SlimKat (http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/orig-development/rom-slimkat-i9100-t2552988) and no significant changes were made yesterday.
Inmediately I thought that I had no data available in my prepaid card. I checked with my provider (Lycamobile NL) and there were connections till 20:00 aprox, when I got home and hooked to the wifi. Nothing in the mornig. Data available in my account. I have tried the SIM in a different phone and works perfectly. I can make and receive phone calls, as send and receive SMS messages.
Thinking that it could be a problem with the rom I've installed PacMan (same result) and currently have installed last NeatROM. Same result.
I've also traveled to France, where I'm now: with a Lebara FR SIM that I've just toped-up I get the same annoying result: no data.
Data connections are enabled under Settings --> More... --> Mobile network settings, as it's also enabled the National data roaming. APNs are correctly configured and selected.
No software was installed neither settings changed neither in PacMan nor NeatROM.
A mistery.... any clue?
Clean install of stock to test in the first instance, then a clean install of the rom you were using. Could be the 'connectivity just goes away for no particular reason at all' thing I used to see on AOSP roms all the time when I ran them on my S2 (and was the reason I stopped using them).
You could also try flashing modems; starting with modems bundled with stock roms released by the carrier you're currently using.
It could still also quite easily be a carrier-side issue despite what you've said/checked. Everyone (on here) always thinks it's a phone-side issue when connectivity is poor/changes/non-existent, 80% of the time it's carrier-side.
Thanks four the advice MistahBungle. I'll try with stock.
On the other hand, the carrier issue is discarded:
- same SIM works in a different phone, in sake physical location.
- a different SIM, different carrier, different country, shoes the same behavior in the phone
Sends to me that that's a phone thing...

Yep more than likely something phone-side with that extra info you've provided. Try those suggestions & see how you go.
In my case it was waterlogged mainboard issue. I don't think that's the case with you but still, even after trying all the above you still face the same then the antenna module would be worth checking.
Praying for your s2's soul and your pockets
Restoring Stock firmware (I9100XWMS3_I9100FOPLS6_FOP) didn't help. ((
Now I'm completely lost... (((
Try flashing some modems for your area/device.

That's because you didn't read my post. I did suggest two other things, which Banjara helpfully/unnecessarily repeated.
If you want this issue resolved, it's going to take some effort on your part.
Just installed PacMan stable release (milestone 1).
Apart from the same behavior with the data connection, the browser does not launch.
Installing Resurection Remix right now. Let's see.
Just installed Resurrection Remix and same behavior.
Trying to find AOSP KK modems now, if possible from Netherlands network providers, ideally from KPN.
I have a question:
If I have flashed a AOSP rom (i.e. Resurrection Remix) which is KitKat, can I flash a stock modem wich is Jelly Bean?
I'm asking so because you adviced me to flash modems bundled in stock roms (which for I9100 stop at 4.1.2) on a AOSP rom (which is 4.4.2 kitkat)
Thank you for your support.

AFAIK,Modem is not dependent of the android version for u so u can flash the modem .
Yes u can downgrade from 4.4.2 to 4.1.2 (but perform all the necessary wipes before doing the downgrade)
it worked!!!
Flashing modem.bin from the stock 4.1.2 on the Resurection Remix worked )))
Thanks MistahBungle and the others for the support!!!
Let's see now if it works also with NeatROM!!
Thanks again!!!
FYI, NeatROM worked as well!!!

[Q] IMEI 0000 / 0049 - NO EFS Backup - Android 4.3

Hey Guys,
im crying, cause in my whole life I had never a problem which I cant solve. :crying:
The Story:
I started my phone and got a wounderful bootloop which forced me to flash a new firmware (firmware before: cyanogen mod 11)
I flashed a Stock Rom: Android 4.3 DBT and tried to backup before, but the clockworkmod recovery wont let me, it cancled at
the System Point.
So I have just a Backup with a uncompleted system tar (but which I can open with 7zip), a boot.img and a recovery.img.
NO esf.img. I did not know that the IMEI could get destroyed after a flash, so I thought it would be no problem if I flash anyway,
cause I had no other opportunity.
Now I'm googlin for like 3 Days and tried every possible Soultion, flashed again, flashed root, done the 9step fix,
done the hex fix, ... I think I did everything, but nothing worked. My only "success" was to get a 0049 IMEI.
Which is not really a success.
The Problem:
No IMEI, or just 0049 and *#1234# says that I have no IMEI Certificate.
What can I do? Is there any fix out there, which can help me or does life force me to give up the tons of hours I lost for
this **** and send it to a repair service? Can I send it then to Samsung repair service?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Btw.: Sorry for the bad english, it is not my mother language.
Before flashing CM11 you were on stock 4.0.4 / 4.1.1 / 4.1.2 or 4.3 ?

I had MIUI before I flashed CM11 with the CM installer.
And before I flashed anything, the Version was one before 4.3, I think it was 4.2.
But I updated the firmware over the android updater, maybe it was at the beginning where I bought it 4.0 or 4.1.
Is this important?

Yes if you have moved/flashed from any version below 4.0 4.1 4.2 etc to 4.3 then your efs has changed from v1 to v2 read this >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/general/ref-imei-efs-stuff-i9300-including-t2393289 << tip try flashing the efs v2 aroma zip file in the thread with a custom recovery

[Q][SOLVED] No data network after CM 12.1

Hi.
EDIT: My phone is a GT-I9300 bought in Denmark (So I guess International).
So yesterday I installed this custom rom from Android 4.3 to Unofficial Cyanogenmod 12.1 (Here is the article: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/development/5-1-x-cyanogenmod-12-1-t3066864). I got it installed with no problems but then I discovered that I had no 3G (data connection). My IMEI and APN was fine and it could recognize my carrier (Telenor Denmark). I tried installing more than 5 different flashed modems but with no luck. So, today I installed the stock Android 4.1.2 official ROM and the 3G was working perfectly again. I then tried installing CM 12.1 again, but the same error occurred. I have no problems making calls and sending text messages, and WIFI works too.
Could someone lead me in the right direction to solving this error?
Thank you in advance.
Andreas B. Ostergaard
If you had official 4.3 in the beginning there is no way you can get a signal or 3g if you go back 4.1.2 except somewhere in the past you restored your old 4.1.2 efs backup. If you have signal in 4.1.2 this means you still have efs v1. Since cm12 doesnt change your efs or modem you may still have network. Your 3g problem may be efs v1. Install official 4.3 first and update your efs to v2 then install a clean cm12 and try again.

Hi. Thanks for your answer.
I know this is a stupid question, but how do I update my EFS?
Thank you.
Andreas.
If you install official 4.3 through odin, it will update automaticly.

Okay but then I don't really understand because I have already updated once to 4.3 OTA (or via Kies maybe) before I began installing custom roms. Shouldn't that be the same as using Odin?
Best regards.
Andreas.
I never updated via ota or kies before and never even used kies before (no needed). Also I use my s3 rooted since day one. So maybe (i say maybe because i really dont know) ota updates might keep your efs unupdated. (Since it is an update not the whole package).
Download an official 4.3 from sammobile.com and try and see. (Nothing to lose anyway)

And also these are the cleaning scripts for s3. They will wipe clean your entire phone even the system and any kernel leftovers. Use them before installing any custom roms because cm and sammy roms are completly different roms and any leftovers can make problems to your system..
@AndreasX12: Failing 3g-access has nothing to do with IMEI/efs-issues, but may be a CM-issue. So, if you've still your correct IMEI and network access with 4.3-firmware, (backup your efs-data and the whole system and) try simply another AOSP-ROM, Omni or Euphoria fe.
Recommended updating path from stock 4.3 leads through 10.2, 11 and ad last 12.1.
If you have stock 4.3 download stable cm10.2 and flash it through recovery twice and reboot. You can skip cm11 than and flash cm 12 or cm12.1.
Cm10.2 is the first one cyanogenmod which change partition layout a bit.
Converting between efs 1 and efs 2 is possible and recommended on stock firmwares by flashing corresponding modem version by Odin. It also have place while flashing whole rom through Kies, Odin or Heimdall.
To omit future 3g errors flash roms without sim card onboard.

Special thanks to rp158. I have installed OmniROM instead so it was a problem with the CM12.1 unofficial build.

Updated to 4.3 EFS went from v1 to v2 and can't get signal on custom roms

Hello!
Phone Gt-i9300
So i was happily using omnirom for 1 year until my motherboard died last week
so i ordered a new board. i installed it, it was on 4.1.2 unlocked, and i decided to update it without making a efs backup! so dumb!
So i installed a 4.3 Stock ROM, no signal so i had to install
-Patched XXUFMJ9 kernel
- Patched BUUGMJ3 modem
So i can use my phone with no problems in STOCK....
BUT. I hate STOCK..
I have tried to flash omniroom 4.4.4, but it says unknown baseband, uknown imei.. i tried installing omniroom and then installed again the patched modem buugmj3 and ofcourse nothing happened...
So.. my question is.. Am I forced to stick with this TouchWiz Rom? or is there any way for me to do something to get omniroom detecting my signal?
Oh something i was forgeting.. before i updated to stock 4.3... i installed first omniroom.. but i decided to update to stock 4.3 because i was getting signal but it could take 1 HOUR for the phone to get the signal.. and from there signal would lose at any moment.
anyone? i read the FAQ and did this
Q9: I'm sure I've correctly flashed an SGSIII ROM with the right CSC for my network but why can I still not make calls?
If your phone was running an Android version less than v4.3 before you flashed a new ROM then you may need to install a patched modem and, if you upgraded to a newer stock ROM, a patched kernel too such as the zuluman modem FW/kernel. You will usually not need to install a patched kernel if you install CyanogenMod or a CM-based ROM. A number of kernels and modem firmwares patched for Android 4.3+ are available here.
