No.
i ve read this rom: cm-11-20141217-UNOFFICIAL-thor.zip on this topic: http://forum.xda-developers.com/kindle-fire-hdx/development/cm-11-20141216-unofficial-thor-t2974818
Cause my HDX have update automatically to FireOs 4.5.2 via wifi, then i have to wait for so long time, for any root version can apply for Fire OS 4.5.2, then use that rom, hopefully you guys can release that soon, thanks Cpasjuste, many thanks for your hardwork :good::good::good:
Dont try this ROM
Hi, I tried this ROM.
I am not on a late version of fire OS so I thought it would work - in actual fact I was on 13.3.2.4 with root access.
I now have a semi bricked kindle which just shows Amazon Kindle in white. As I have only owned the thing for a day this is somewhat gutting.
Any help anyone could offer would be appreciated.
I am getting a factory cable so will try to fix with that - if not a return is in order...
Avoid this mod like the plague...

With Safestrap from Zip.
What I am guessing happened is safestrap was launched from initial bootloader - overflashed bits it shouldnt have now initial bootloader doesnt like what it sees so no booting...
Any suggestions appreciated.
That's strange. I didn't used safestrap since a while so I'm not 100% sure what happened but you probably flashed the ROM on your STOCK slot which probably erased safestrap... (Like said before you shouldn't have used this ROM in first place and you shouldn't flash to stock ROM).
The problem now is to get adb working so you can restore something but I guess it won't be enabled for you since your device do not boot the flashed kernel. I'm not sure if it will be possible to use fastboot for flashing a signed kernel made by @vortox , this is maybe your only solution.

I'm fairly certain that the boot image didn't flash, it's just the system that's not booting. I was reading through the bootloader source today and it *seems* that if the signature is invalid on a flashed partition, then the device will boot into fastboot mode. Had the boot image actually flashed, he would get a picture for about 2 seconds then a reboot. It wouldn't just hang if this was a sfv (signature verification failure, I decided to abbreviate because it's hell to type out).

Your right, the problem is now his system partition. With a few luck he still have adb enabled, I think its his last chance isn't it.
Can someone tell me what I need to do to move from the HDX ROM (Kernel .3.2.4) to this one?

If I am not wrong:
Download the upload 13.3.1.0 update file from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2782159
Make a back-up of your data using Safestrap and copy it to your pc.
Flash one of the two backups files provided by ggow in http://forum.xda-developers.com/kindle-fire-hdx/development/13-3-2-4-rollback-images-t2991015 depending on device. That would install a stock version with root enabled (if not u would need to do the whole root process)
Do a factory reset of your system
Copy the 13.3.1.0 downloaded before into the root and reboot to get the update installed.
Once the system is in 13.3.1.0 u would be able to install the TRWP and later the cm.
Maybe i am missing something, can anybody confirm?

I can reply to myself. cm-11-20150101-UNOFFICIAL-thor.zip installed and running
I was in 13.3.2.4 with Safestrap, OTA updates disabled, root....
My steps:
1-Back up your data using Safestrap and copy it to your personal computer.
2-Select Stock rom.
3-Flash one of the two backups files provided by ggow in http://forum.xda-developers.com/kindle-fire-hdx/development/13-3-2-4-rollback-images-t2991015 depending on device (Thor in my case). That would install a stock version pointing to 13.3.0.9. In my case root was not found so I needed to use again [TOOL:FROZEN] Faznx's HDX ToolKit v0.95 to disable OTA and put root.
3-Put the http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2782159 at root level. Reboot the device, that would help the system to recognize the update, sometimes it takes a while. Put also TRWP and the cyanogenmod, I put them into download folder, but it doesn't matter.
4-Update the system, it would require a reboot.
5-Once in 13.3.1.0, check OTA updates are disabled and root is enabled, using Faznx again.
6-With OTA updates disabled, switch on wifi and install a file manager.
7-Install Rashr, download it from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2334554
8-Install TRWP image using Rashr.
9-Reboot on TRWP. Swip to factory reset and install the CM build.
10-Install CM Gapps for CM11.
I have found an issue with wifi, it required a reboot to get it working. Testing the other features right now.
I would like to use the google now launcher but CM doesn't detect the launcher as launcher. Maybe it is an issue of my device. Can someone try to set the google now launcher as default launcher?
At first, thanks a lot to all involved people to making a great device gets its full potential. Great work.
As it works fine for me so far, I was wondering if it is necessary to keep all the partitions, I got an emulateed ( legacy and 0) as well as two others. I suppose, these are two from the other rom slots I created. Im not sure if they take space at all?
Again, thanks for your effort and cheers.

No you don't need to delete them they are symlink used by the system and do not use space.
From many many different threads and frankly confusing instructions I think I have puzzled together the following solid guideline for my kindle fire hdx from basic root to custom rom. Currently my firmware is 13.3.1.0.
Could someone take a look at this and tell me if I got this right or if I need to do stuff differently (or could do them better)? Don't assume that something is obvious, if it isn't written down, don't be shy to mention it. I would be ever so grateful .
Edit: I'm updating my experience as I move along the list and get more info just in case this might be useful to someone who is just as lost as I was in the beginning
Obligatory disclaimer: this is just a step-by-step guideline that worked for me. I'm not responsible if you chose to follow any of these steps and damage or brick your device.
Guideline:
-Download firmware version 3.2.3.2 and upgrade directly from any of the previous version by putting the file into the internal storage of the kindle, going to settings>device>system update on the kindle and installing the update from there.
-Root with Towelroot in the HDX toolkit downloaded from here (Edit: I got various error messages at this step but got it to work in the end. The 3rd post here shows what I did to get it working after getting error message 2 and 3 at various times)
-block OTA also with the tool in the HDX toolkit (is there a way to safely check that this worked? Edit: It worked )
-connect to wifi and install Flashify from the playstore (Edit: I ended up installing File Expert and flashify on another android device, backing up the flashify apk and sideloading it with ES File Explorer from the amazon app store to the kindle, I guess I could have also download the apk somewhere but I have trust issues.)
-download the img of TWRP 2.8.5.0. and put it in internal storage of kindle (had no problems)
-use flashify to save original stock recovery (had no problems)
-Use flashify to flash TWRP (had no problems)
- Boot into recovery mode via flashify to see if it worked (had no problems)
Now either A)
-download CM11 image and gapps and put the zip files on internal storage
-Edit: disconnect Kindle from USB afterwards
- go into TWRP recovery mode (by powering off kindle and then pressing power and volume at the same time)
- make backup of original stockrom under backups and save copy on your Computer
- wipe system, data, cache and dalvik cache under wipe/advanced (all except internal)
- flash cm11 image and gapps (under install and then find them in the files)
- reboot
-Edit: I had the wifi not connecting problem that some people have with CM11 but a reboot took care of it.
-Edit 2: I couldn't get the kindle app to work on CM11 (it wouldn't synch my books, the device wasn't recognized by amazon and it would crash every time I logged in.) so I ended up replacing it with the Nexus rom. If the chance of this happening doesn't bother you then CM11 seems to still be a good choice.
or B)
- download HDX thor nexus rom and gapps and put the zip files on internal storage
- go into TWRP recovery mode (by powering off kindle and then pressing power and volume at the same time)
- make backup of original stockrom under backups and save copy on your Computer
- wipe system, data, cache and dalvik cache under wipe/advanced (all except internal)
- Edit: disconnect Kindle from USB afterwards
- flash nexus rom and gapps (under install and then find them in the files)
- reboot
- Edit: I'm very happy with it, it works flawlessly. Since it's based on Jelly Bean I may try replacing it with another rom sometime in the future, but I'm in no hurry
Mostly correct, you can update directly to 3.2.3.2 no need for incremental steps. The only way to know if ota blocker worked is to check for update but there's really no need, as soon as you've run towel root just disable WiFi as it won't be needed anymore.

You can flash a cuber signed TWRP on a locked bootloader, as long as you're below 3.2.4.

Fully unlocking your bootloader is definitely worthwhile but it's quite a complicated endeavour and not required for running the current custom recoveries and ROMs. I'd recommend you stick with your current method and read up on the unlocking process once you're more conformable working with this device.

- more robust recovery options when recovery (TWRP) is damaged/inaccessible; better chance of reviving a bricked device
- some custom roms install/operate better with unlocked BL (technically should not be needed but sometimes seen in early builds)
- some DRM aware apps on custom roms work better with unlocked BL(eg: playstore, prime)
Guidance form derpadoodle is sound. Enjoy what you have achieved thus far; revisit BL unlock when you are more comfortable with device/technique.

Thanks for the sound advice, I will probably never feel comfortable enough for that , especially because I haven't achieved much at all yet. I haven't even flashed TWPR yet.
Yay, I did it. CM11 seems to be working as intended! Thanks again for everyone who replied and also to everyone who put so much work into making and improving all the tools and software necessary to make this kind of thing even possible, I appreciate it!

I was on 3.0.5 when I got the device. Amazon didn't upgrade the firmware at all before sending it out, then I upgraded to 13.3.2.3. Why do you ask?
Hmm, I have now noticed that the kindle app is not working properly. I can sign in (though every time I sign in or deregister my account the app crashes) but it's not synching any of my books. They don't show up at all. The device (named android device 2 in the kindle app settings) does also not show up under my devices on amazon. Anyone know what the problem could be because this is a bit frustrating. Is this a bug with CM11 or with the amazon app?

Can't say definitively but I would lean towards CM11 as all Amazon apps (kindle/prime/shopping/video) work fine with the Nexus ROM (v2.0.5) which is layered on the same hw/fw base as CM11. Don't get me wrong; CM11 (and the devs who adapted to the HDX) are great! But there may still be a few hiccups with native Amazon apps.

Thanks for the opinion! I couldn't find any solution to the problem anywhere online and therefore just finished replacing CM11 with the Nexus rom, now the kindle app works perfectly fine and I'm very satisfied with what I've got. I will keep an eye out on rom development but for now I'm resting on my laurels :victory:. Considering that I was helplessly lost when I first came to the board I'm very happy with how smoothly everything went. But I really needed that step-by-step list I made and the assurance from the pros that it was correct, otherwise I would have probably made a careless mistake :silly:. Maybe it will be useful to a few other newbies as well. Not sure I will ever dare to fully unlock the bootloader like some suggested I might want to do at a later point in time, but we will see . Thanks again for the help!

Glad to hear everything is working well! My daily driver is on Nexus and I could not be happier. Everything works as it should. No need to unlock the bootloader unless you plan to do more modding. Enjoy your device!
Nice. I think everybody needs this kind of guide. Whenever a question is asked it just kind of trails off most of the time.
I'm still working on the downgrade piece.

Agreed, I was overwhelmed by all the different threads and possibilities at first. I ended up approaching it like any other research project for a paper or presentation and dumped every solid (and recent) piece of good advice into Evernote and sorting it out there. But writing and updating guides (especially with the fast development I have observed) would be a lot of work, I understand completely why no one would volunteer to do it and everybody would rather answer questions on a case by case basis.
First of all thank you very much! I was looking for something like this, since i am also new to rooting devices and this stuff...
I got a new fire hdx 7 with 13.3.02
I haven't tried anything yet, I am still reading threads and i got some questions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/kindle-fire-hdx/general/update-1314-4-1-1-probably-sangria-t2901813
-> I can only find 3.2.3.2 here, which is the firmware u used? Or did you mean another one?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2665683
-> the second link for hdx toolkit isnt working
How do i get the playstore on my device?
are there anywhere more informations regarding flashify? since i have no idea what this is...
thank you!

First thing you want to do is block OTA (over the air updates) or your device may be upgraded by Amazon to a level that gives you less options. Suggest using HDX Toolkit (here) to both root and block OTA. Then install twrp (here). From there you can opt to replace Fire OS will several different roms including Nexus, CM11 or CM12.
Flashify is an app that allows flashing recovery and roms from from within Android vs adb or a recovery environment. You can grab it from the Play store or another market. It's a dangerous tool; use with extreme caution.
Be aware that any of the above actions, if executed incorrectly, can permanently brick your device with little/no hope of recovery (guess that's the definition of permanent). Read, read and read some more before taking any action. Be sure to keep WiFi off on your device until OTA is blocked to prevent auto-updates.
Hello,
I'm hoping that someone can help me out with this.
Last December i bought a Fire HDX 7 (Thor). I immediatley followed the procedure to install Safestrap and the Thor Nexus ROM v2.0.1. Shortly after that my device got lost. Just last week I found it because my parents moved. After this I started looking around the internet to check if there are any 5.0 or 5.1 ROMs available. I found out they are indeed available.
What I want to do now is get rid of Safestrap, unlock the bootloader and install TWRP to be able to flash new ROMs. I want to start using TWRP because I'm used to working with TWRP.
The problem is that I can't seem to find a way to get this done, despite searching for it on this page for several hours. Can anyone help me on the right track? Would be very much appreciated.

Your options are determined by the current version of Amazon firmware installed on your device. I assume you retained Fire OS in the base slot. Boot into that and poke around settings until you find the version number (should be 13.x.x plus some other gibberish). Post what you find and we'll go from there.
Caution: You should disable wifi immediately after booting into Fire OS to prevent an automatic update from Amazon from spoiling your day. At minimum an update will limit future options. I can also brick your device depending on firmware level and other previous mods (including safestrap). Disabling wifi in Nexus is not sufficient as the two roms operate independently.

Quite possibly. Enjoy Nexus; it's a good rom. Alternatively, follow the directions to see if you still have Fire OS installed. If at/below v3.2.6 then Lollipop is possible albeit with a lot of work and significant risk to your device. Otherwise you are limited to Fire OS and Nexus.
Seriously, if you don't recall what you did and can't figure out how start Safestrap in recovery mode be happy with what you have. There are no step-by-step guides. You have to read (a lot) and be prepared for numerous setbacks including an unrecoverable brick of your now working Kindle.

Sorry for my late response.. I just started Safestrap and can only find 1 ROM slot, the Stock ROM slot which probably means that I deleted the original OS.
I did find some files on my laptop that brought some memories back. What I did back then is downgrade the original software to version 13.3.2.6 and than to 13.3.1.0. Does this create any new possibilities?
I just managed to create a new ROM slot and succesfully installed stock 13.3.2.6 on it, so now running on Nexus ROM and stock 13.3.2.6.

Warning: Do NOT allow Fire OS to auto-update. Doing so will likely brick your device. Short term the best way to prevent this is to only boot into Nexus. If necessary I can walk you through blocking OTA. Seriously - stay out of Fire OS for now.
I am no Safestrap expert but I believe the rom in the 'base' slot becomes the default when you uninstall Safestrap. So you may have some shuffling to do. Another concern is whether removing/reinstalling Fire OS will impact the ability to recognize the OS once Safetrap is gone. You need a functioning version of Fire OS (and recovery) to follow the 'standard' rollback/update/flash procedures.
However, there may be a shortcut. If 13.3.1.0 was the base rom just prior to installing Nexus and wiping out Fire OS you then should be able to flash twrp without further prep. That would give you access to both Nexus variants and CM11. Unfortunately, there is no easy way to determine the bootloader version which is the component that really matters. It should match the last version of Fire OS that was natively installed before you overwrite it with Nexus.
Unfortunately, the recent install of 13.3.2.6 into a safestrap slot complicates matters. I believe installs within Safestrap leaves the bootloader untouched. But I can't be sure. A misstep can leave your device in an unrecoverable condition; don't go experimenting.
Let's see which recovery you have installed. Power down the device then restart holding power + vol-up. When the grey Kindle logo appears release the power key; vol-up can be released a few seconds later. What happens after the grey logo disappears?

Warning: Do NOT allow Fire OS to auto-update. Doing so will likely brick your device. Short term the best way to prevent this is to only boot into Nexus. If necessary I can walk you through blocking OTA. Seriously - stay out of Fire OS for now.
I am no Safestrap expert but I believe the rom in the 'base' slot becomes the default when you uninstall Safestrap. So you may have some shuffling to do. I see the following:
Kindle Fire System Recovery
Your Kindle doesn't seem to be able to boot. Resetting your device to Factory defaults may help you to fix this issue.
Then I get the options to Reboot or to reset to Factory Default.
Oh, the Fire OS is not connected to any networks so it won't be able to update.

Ok - a working stock recovery. That's good.
I am conflicted on next steps. The scripted approach would have you uninstall Safestrap (assuming Fire OS had remained in slot 0), rollback to 3.1.0 and then install twrp. However, since slot 0 now contains Nexus I do not feel removing Safestrap is wise. Nor to I think reinstalling Fire OS in the base slow will yield a functioning system once Safestrap is gone.
The 'shortcut' would have you flash twrp recovery (via adb or Flashify) since your bootloader *should*_be at the right level due to a previous 3.1.0 rollback. However, if that is not correct you will end up with a borked recovery which is difficult to rectify.
In your shoes I would probably do nothing given the device is fully functional. The developer of the Nexus rom is working on a KitKat 'upgrade' which is close to being released; a Safestrap variant will hopefully follow. There's no shame in running Nexus. Upgrade to v4.4, add a few Xposed modules and you have fully supported, near AOSP environment that's only lacking a few eye candy elements from Lollipop.

It's not that I don't like the Nexus ROM, I just like to experiment with these things..
So I just installed TWRP with Flashify (started Flashify from NEXUS) and now I seem stuck at the grey Kindle fire logo. I'm just going to leave it alone for a few hours, hopefully it boots later today.

It still boots after a very long time, however I don't know if I get the possibility to enter recovery because it takes several hours to boot. Any more ideas?

Power down device and attempt to enter recovery by pressing power + vol-up. Release the power button after the grey logo appears; vol-up can be released after a few seconds. What happens next? Likely one of the following (good -> bad):
- blue screen followed by twrp recovery
- stock recovery with only two options: factory reset and reboot
- continuation of grey kindle logo

Congrats! Had a bad feeling after your earlier post; glad that was misplaced. Enjoy CM11 and all the goodness that comes from a liberated HDX.
At some point you should consider unlocking the bootloader. That will provide an important fail safe should things go wrong and opens the door to newer roms. Unlike previous flashes there is little/no risk in unlocking. It will either work or not with no adverse consequences. Unlocking can be a frustrating ride as the process involves multiple steps in unfamiliar territory but ultimately the benefits outweigh the effort IMO. Nothing that needs to be tackled right away but keep it on your radar ... especially if you plan to experiment with other roms.
Unlock bootloader
Hello davey,
I am also interested in getting from safestrap v4 to an unlocked bootloader in order to use a lollipop ROM. My 3rd gen hdx 7 started on 4.5.5 so I did OTA rollback to 3.2.8, upgraded to 4.5.2, then rooted and safestrapped. Unfortunately I lost my stock ROM, but I current have both CM11 and HDZ nexus v4 on 2 different ROM slots. What would be my best way to proceed? From my research so far, it would appear I need to flash hdx nexus 2.0, then flash rollback image to get to modified 3.2.4, and from there 3.1.0 stock update with will allow me to use python method to unlock BL. Is this all correct?
Thanks in advance for your guidance

No. You can NOT unlock the bootloader! You can NOT downgrade to 3.2.4 and then further to 3.1.0/3.2.3.2! DON'T attempt to do so, you will brick your HDX!
Your only available option is to stay on 4.5.2 and use Safestrap v4 with either Nexus and/or CM11.

Unfortunately, you can not unlock your bootloader. Amazon introduced anti-rollback protection that will hard brick the device if rolled back below 3.2.8. Sorry, mate.

Thanks Davey, you have been very helpful replying to me in another thread also. My reason for seeking a ROM other, than Nexus v4 or CM11, is the kitkat bluetooth tether/VPN bug documented at code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=62714 (sorry for no direct link, xda won't let me post them yet). A "work around" is to establish a wifi connection, even if it doesnt have internet access. This, for whatever reason, allows kitkat to forward the packets to apps on the kindle. I probably could get away with plugging in an old access point at work to enable the sharing sharing of my phones data connection with my safestrap kitkit kindle, but this isn't practical outside of my workplace.
FYI, I cant share my phone's connection via wifi because its an ATT note 4 with lollipop, a locked bootloader, and no permaroot available. I doubt there's a way to tether between 2 android devices via microUSB; but i'd be open to that too!
Thanks again for your wisdom and expertise!

Hey guys ive got a hdx 7' RUNNING FIRE OS 3.2.4 everything i have been reading is saying that this version is somewhat unique in that there are a few roms availible mostly from safestrapp but most are not, twrp requires 3.2.3 and earlier as well as the bootloader unlock procedure. Can anyone point me in the direction on how to downgrade to one of the earlier versions. Currently i am rooted, ota disabled via: hdxtookit, i had safestrapp and a asop rom installed but was getting google play services stopped working error messages and restored to factory because i havent used the kindle in a year. Anyways i'm looking to get back into it and got cm 12.1 on my sgs3 and wanted to get something similar but keep runninginto problems with my version fire os. So just need a quick link to a roll back procedure in english and i should be able to do the rest from unlock - twrp - roms etc. I've been searching off and on the past few weeks but do not find anything definitive so i decided to finally ask to get an answer thanks for any and all help.

So basicaly for unlock BL and real TWRP you need have FW between x.3.1.0 and x.3.2.3:
Depending on your computer skills rollback can be achieved easy (or not).
Guide in english? Here, but you must mess with build.prop and on hdx especialy its really dangerous procedure - if you made simple mistake, it could be your last with that device and deadly for it for sure.
Sorry, I will not guide you through the process, if you feel you are lost, you can ask davey126 for help, but he answered this type of question soo many times . . . you can try read his posts before you ask him, there is high posibility he answered it somewhere...

@jeryll is spot on. There are a ton of helpful posts from a variety of authors that could get you started. This one comes to mind although there are many others. Lots of folks here are happy to answer targeted questions but you have to do your homework first. Read (and read some more), go slow, stop and post a question if unsure, don't take chances. Good luck.
Random thoughts:
- I strongly encourage upgrading to 13.3.2.5 or 13.3.2.6 prior to rolling back to 13.3.1.0. Lower risk and clears out 'crud' that could ruin your day.
- Use HDX toolkit to block/unblock OTA. Don't mess with any other technique; bad day follows.
- Once OTA is unblocked stay off WiFi. Period. Do transfer/installs via tether. Belt-and-suspenders types engage airplane mode and delete existing WiFi profiles too.
- Double check every action before executing. Stop and ask questions if unsure. Juggling babies is safer than taking a wrong turn (ok ... maybe that's a bit extreme).
- Many guides suggest bootloader unlocking before installing TWRP recovery. My comfort meter goes the opposite way. Your call. There are decent arguments for both approaches.

How can I upgrade to 3.2.5 or 6. I believe I blocked ota it's been so lo.g ago I searched.for.the files and didn't see them anywhere so I assume it's still active even after factory restoration. And it's possible to twrp without unlocked boot loader? I didn't know that. What are the pros and cons. I'm not a dev so I went need to play around with much just want to rid of fire os and use a cm or nexus. If I can do that safety id LOVE that but still willing to try the adk route. Locate HDX toolkit in the Android Development thread and try to remove the OTA block that way. Keep WiFi off or you might receive an unwanted update.
Although not recommended twrp can be installed with a locked bootloader.
Travelling this week so can't get into more detail. Suggest you keep reading. Don't do stuff unless you are absolutely confident in your skills, knowledge, risks and expected outcome(s). Post questions. Many folks willing to help if you have done your homework. Sorry for brevity ...
Yes, be ESPECIALLY careful with build.prop. I learned this the hard way. They is nothing like Odin for Samsung that can save you.

Nice find! I had seen that post (long ago) but the significance never set in for Safestrap v3 users with FireOS xx.3.2.4 in the stock slot. Even if not rocking SS it is probably easier (and definitely a lot safer) to install SS vs rolling up just to roll back or messing with build.prop.
The OTA block could still be a problem as the @ggow's procedure still involves Amazon's native update mechanism.
Edit: Disregard OTA comment as modified 3.2.4 goes on first and should restore OTA capability (more importantly the ability to detect and process FireOS bin files in the appropriate location).
I upgraded from 13.3.2.4 to 13.3.2.5 and edited build.prop, so now my version shows 13.3.0.9. I downloaded 13.3.1.0 rom from Amazon server. When updating I always received the following error message "Unable to complete update because the update file is not valid. Please try downloading the file again" (I tried downloading 13.3.1.0 at least 5 times, but none of the downloaded file works). I suspect that something goes wrong with the rom file on Amazon server.
Anybody can help direct me to a non-amazon site or upload your working file to somewhere I can download from?
Thank you very much.

AFAIK after upgrading to x.3.2.5(or 6) you cant use downgrading via editing build.prop anymore (thanks to Amazon), check this thread for more info.
IF you decide to take further actions PLEASE READ INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY, so far you are lucky you didnt brick your kindle.

Assuming you are on 13.3.2.4 (must be that version) you need Safestrap v3.75 b02 for Thor (here). See Safestrap OP for additional information on installing/configuring Safestrap. Or follow part 1-2 of this guide. You do not need to create secondary slots as you will be overwriting FireOS in the Stock ROM Slot. This obviously dangerous. If something goes wrong you could be left with an unbootable device. Make a backup of your current environment from Safestrap recovery before flashing the rollback file. Note rolling back to 3.1.0 is a two step process. Be sure you understand these instructions and have the correct files. Ask questions if unsure.
After you have successfully rolled back to 3.1.0 you should uninstall safestrap before flashing native twrp, bumping your bootloader to 3.2.3 and then unlocking. Alternatively, you can work on bootloader unlocking first while Safestrap is installed which will offer more robust recovery capabilities should something go wrong in subsequent steps.

You can grab stock images here. Be absolutely certain you snag the correct one for your device. Verify md5=c49c0363de4d8dfa5c87c1bdb88aa2ba with ES FIle Explorer (long click the file and select 'properties' from the 'more' menu). Note you will loose root and OTA blocking. Be sure to stay off wifi. Use HDX Toolkit (requires usb tether to Windows PC) to root 3.1.0 and reblock OTA if needed.
Well. I've been reading as much as possible, and although my requirements are here/there, putting together and nailing down my specific needs have got me quite stuck.
My Current System:
Verizon (On Straight Talk) SCH-I545 , Android: 4.4.2
Build: VRUFNK1
Rooted , SafeStrap Installed (Also, running XPosed Framework, quite a bit of bloat and Verizon apps removed).
I want to upgrade to Stock Lollipop (Rooted). I have researched to my limits and my problem is primarily my loss of understanding of the various Builds and requirements. This is my only phone and I just want to assure to be quite sure before proceeding.
I do understand the answer to this is here, it just seems that it is somewhat fragmented and I can't seem to nail down the specifics I need to make it happen.
It seems that FlashFire and this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...-to-update-to-i545oc1-5-0-1-keeproot-t3096558
(I just realized that the ROM files here for use in Flashfire are now broken URL's), not sure where to find the proper files?
Do the trick? Flash the I545_OC1_Stock_Rooted_ROM_wNK4_BL Rom using FlashFire. (This link is now broken? New file location?) If I read correctly, it will take to the required NK4, from my NK1.....and put me right to Lollipop.....Done.
I've only ever used ODIN, so FlashFire is new to me. Just a few quick questions that I KNOW have really caused problems in the past, and just want to make sure I'll be ok:
1. Will the removal of tons of the Verizon Bloatware be an issue, or does it need to be wiped back to close to stock (Anything removed was on the XDA list of "Ok to remove KitKat files"
2. Should I Remove XPosed for the flash and put it back later if desired.
Am I missing anything? To be honest, it seems quite simple. I've flashed several phones and this almost seems too easy (A compliment).
Just a confirmation would be great. I think I've done the homework, but would really like some feedback before I pull the trigger.
I REALLY APPRECIATE THE HELP......THANKS.....
Here is a link to sign up as a tester of flashfire which once you are approved will allow you to download the application from this link as well.

1. Any system apps you removed should not have an effect because the ROM which you are flashing has the basic Verizon bloatware pre-insatlled. You will have to delete them again after installing a new rom unless it is debloated/deodexed.
2. If I were you I would remove XPosed just to be safe as it may leave something behind which could cause problems. But you shouldn't have an issue if you leave it in before flashing.
Be very careful to follow the directions in FlashFire word for word, if you skip or miss any steps it could result in a soft-brick.
THANKS for the reply. Also, thank you for the ROM link. I read in much of the original flashing comments there were several WI-FI issues. Has that been repaired in this version of the ROM?
I did get FlashFire. There seems to be several versions of that floating around, just hopefully the latest should be fine.
I did have 1 other question. I believe I also read that after the flash, Safestrap will no longer work? Is this true? Should SafeStrap be removed prior to this process? (Although if something goes wrong, I like having that there to hopefully get back?). Is the latest version of SS compatible? Will it just fail to even come up if the flash is successful?
I've flashed many times, over the past years, but am no expert. I guess I'll ask, although I clearly understand the concept of soft-brick....In this particular case, any insight of what 'Could' happen and maybe what I could have prepared to fix? Shouldn't be an issue I would hope.
BOTTOM-LINE QUESTIONS:
1. Can you please verify this ROM def. has the WiFi issues worked out?
2. Status of SafeStrap after Flash?
THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE REPLY!
Any other thoughts, etc...greatly appreciated. (I see quite a few posts of people wanting to go BACK to 4.4.2 (where I am now) that gets me thinking also...lol...hmmm?
ALL the best and thanks again....

I am unable to verify if the wifi issues are fixed or not, but you could just flash it anyway and then restore from a backup in odin. Safestrap will probably need to be reinstalled as you will flash recoveries when you do the update in flashfire.
The people who post about going back to 4.4.2 are not on NK4 but on OC1 which does not allow reverting to 4.4.2. NK4 could use the nc5flasher to then revert to 4.4.2 or even something like Hyperdrive.
Thank you. I'm pretty sure that I read in one of the original threads that the WiFi issues had been worked out. I'm just wanting to make sure this particular version of the ROM is the corrected one. You mentioned if it is broken, restore from a backup in ODIN, your referring to the original KitKat ROM.
I was a bit confused. I thought that this also took it all the way to OC1, which is why I was questioning SafeStrap? Could you please clarify when you mentioned flashing recoveries when the update is done in FlashFire?
So, this particular update takes it to NK4, with Lollipop....not OC1 ? I was def. a bit confused there.
Really appreciate the info. Just want to make sure I have it all in a row before I pull the trigger. According to all I've read and what you've posted, I think that I wouldn't have much issue. I'm just nervous about the WiFi. Guess, I'll need to track down the proper file/s to flash in ODIN if there is a problem.
If you happen to run across anything about this ROM and the WiFi, would appreciate the info. Just no rev numbers on the file, so bit of guessing I assume.
THANKS AGAIN FOR THE INFO........Little more research and I should be ready to roll....THANKS....

This rom will put on 5.0.1 Lollipop but with the nk4 bootloader, not OC1. NK4 has safestrap capabilities. And yes i did mean restore to a stock nk4 rom if you had issues (via odin of course)
Sorry....Had a last thought. In the original procedure I read, it discusses flashing another file enabling tethering. I believe (?) that was after flashing the OC1 file, which I'm convinced your right about staying on NK4. Any idea about that? When I mentioned problems with WiFi, I think that was part of the issue, which they now worked out. Not sure if it's viable on the NK4 though?
Thanks again for all the help/advice with this. Just REALLY trying to make sure I understand it A-Z before I move.....THANKS.....
(Just went and checked, yep the tether flash is for the OC1, from what else I've read though, your right about the best move being to stay on the KK BL'er.)...
