[Q] Not able to boot into custom recovery. - Moto E Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Experts,
I unlocked the bootloader and then tried to flash custom recovery through fastboot (Using Minimal Adb and fastboot). When i try to boot into recovery i get "No Command" error with a android and triangle sign. So far i've tried flashing TWRP and CWM recovery and not able to boot in anyone though. I am able to boot into fastboot mode and normal reboot. In fastboot mode, its displaying my status as unlocked. I tried flashing TWRP 2.7.1.0 and some other versions and still not able to get through. I request you to please help me out to flash custom recovery. Thanks in advance.

Hi, try flash this twrp-2.8.5.0-condor recovery: https://mega.co.nz/#!kJ1XzT5Y!1RSrnUJoRcCO1OGAg8Rei3iVdfpjBrJwkqpOJ-1KJPE
After flash try fastboot reboot recovery

"No command" is not error. It is screen which displays if you have stock recovery
What I'm trying to say is the custom recovery that you tried to flash was unsuccessful and you still have stock recovery.
And for questions use Q&A section not here(general section)

here i have the same problem like you back then

use this link https://mega.co.nz/#!AMByHZ7C!-MNDkV82n0Ph7EAjMLYyMXjKkosjJP7mRjwQV_m5ZSo (recovery from dev host showing no command and sometimes goes straight to battery charging animation)
and don't rename the recovery file, keep it original name when flashing recovery

Strange, I test back stock recovery into my xt1021 and flash twrp 2.8.5.0 with i post in https://mega.co.nz/#!kJ1XzT5Y!1RSrnUJoRcCO1OGAg8Rei3iVdfpjBrJwkqpOJ-1KJPE again and work fine.
I put twrp 2.8.1.0 ( https://mega.co.nz/#!MU9TSKjA!DqPyTG_RADAh4H7CrOcK2IlW8zAwmxoVNG87B3VE3E8 ) too, test the two files.

As far as I know, you do not have the recovery installed. Go to the right thread and post this. Tenfar's thread.
Sent from rooted Atrix on 2.3.4 with unlocked bootloader using xda premium app.
Same here. I installed CMW mod for Atrix already
"fastboot .... recovery... recovery.img"
But finally after Reboot, click "-" Volume and select Android Recovery, it navigated to triangle only.
Please help!

I have no idea where is this -- install_recovery.sh in /system/etc/. Sorry for being such a noob.
I would try flashing again. I flashed it via moto-fastboot and have had no problems.
[edit] not that it needs to be said, but those of you having problems ARE unlocked right? according to tenfars thread title this mod is only compatible with unlocked at&t bootloader.
Yes, unlocked displays in boot screen. But i lost sideload (install apk from unknown source) after unlocked. Is it the reason?

This shouldnt affect it. To my knowledge that only affects loading of 3rd party apks once booted into android, whereas the cwm recovery is flashed and executed before any operating system ever boots. I unlocked my phone, and immediately flashed the new cwm afterwards without issue, so again, i doubt this is the problem.

HTC One X+ soft bricked !! Need help

Hi Guys ..
I screwed up while flashing the unofficial slim rom on my htc one x. The device was already rooted and on twrp custom recovery.
I forgot to flash boot .img and directly tried flashing the rom , which failed. After that I can't access the previous rom nor recovery. The device only goes into bootloader and if I try to get into recovery I get a black screen . I've tried flashing both cwm and twrp via fastboot but can't get into them.
The device is stuck in the htc screen only . I tried flashing an ruu but it says there is an error due to incorrect ruu id . I guess it will be as my one x is s-on . Is there a way to get to s off via fastboot ?
Any help on getting my phone working again will be very much appreciated . I've attached a screen shot of the boot loader which has some details.
Please help! !
Thanks

So do you have a X or X+ device?
You can't enter recovery anymore? What recovery.img did you use and where did you download it? We need some more detailed information on what you did exactly.
And yes, RUU most probably doesn't work because of incorrect CID (can't change CID without S-OFF) and/or because your HBOOT version is too high (not allowed to downgrad without S-OFF).
I have an x+ device . I used twrp initially and later tried flashing both twrp and cwm via fastboot.
I can't enter recovery anymore . All I get when I select recovery from the boot loader screen is a black screen .
So now I need to flash a rom via fastboot only .. As I can't access recovery. Is there any other recovery image that I can try ?
Also is there any other option besides an ruu at this point?
Thanks

Try "fastboot erase cache" before and after flashing recovery again. Also make sure you've got the right recovery.img for HOX+.

We can't mount internal memory while in recovery. You need to use "adb push rom.zip /data/media/0" when in recovery or "adb sideload rom.zip" (you must enter sideload mode in recovery first).

If you are rooted already with a stock recovery, skip to the second half of the next paragraph.
What you want to do is boot twrp instead of flashing it at first. You do this by using the command "fastboot boot recovery.img" where as "recovery.img" is the name you have assigned to your twrp recovery image. Once you have booted into twrp, reboot system. You will be prompted to root the device (assuming you are not already rooted), select yes. Now that you are rooted, download this app. In the app settings change the backup format to .img, and then backup your recovery. Now you will have a copy of your stock recovery. Now that you have that, go back and flash twrp using the command "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img", whereas "recovery.img" refers to whatever you have named your twrp recovery image.
all of this is assuming that you have adb setup on your computer, and a good working knowledge of how to use it.
What if I'm already rooted with twrp recovery, is it still possible?

You still have stock recovery? If so, it sounded like you did fastboot boot TWRP (instead of fastboot flash TWRP).
In which case, you can just then use TWRP to backup the recovery partition. You don't need a seperate app or root to do this.
I flashed twrp using fastboot flash recovery twrp but I'm still using the stock rom, but since I flashed twrp that means my stock recovery img is gone right?

Yes, you can only have one recovery at a time. TWRP custom recovery overwrote the stock recovery. You can't back up what isn't there anymore.
But you can always return to stock by RUU, if needed.

i flash, fastboot flash boot recovery.img , it should be flash recovery recovery.img
You changed you kernel to a recovery.IMG, try and find a flashable.zip of your boot.IMG and flash via twrp
Although I'm not familiar with this particular device it should allow you to boot to bootloader regardless of kernel, at least any device I have used does this
Is the recovery a custom recovery? If so does it have an option to reboot to bootloader?
Otherwise try
adb reboot bootloader

.
Boot is the kernel, so there is a chance you are still OK
Try flashing original firmware through factory recovery
http://support.asus.com/download.as...ne 5&p=39&s=1&os=32&hashedid=96nqlxHp1VKV4Rdz
I tried to flash the same firmware via ADB sideload, but it said " Only with android 4.4.2 that you can updrage to android 5.0. E:Erron in /sideload/package.zip (Status 7).
It looks like there are downgrade instructions in each firmware download, try this method out

Stuck on recovery

OK, here I am again
I don't what I did wrong following the rooting steps, but I am now stuck in recovery.
If I press the vol up button it does not go into download mode, but into fastboot.
I tried to fastboot flash boot.img but get the error FAILED (remote: unknown command)
I flashed the system images v10_stock.zip but did not change anything
Hard reset also ends in recovery
Any ideias?
