[Q] Need help for Sync App Data error - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 3

I'm currently having trouble with this one error I found in my Sync settings. The "Sync App Data" is flagging me an error and I've tried everything from resetting a password to going back and forth on my Google dashboard online.
Kind of ticked off not being able to access my Google Play Store because of this. I'm open to any solutions. Also wondering have anybody else had this problem?

Go to settings/general/Google and click on your gmail account. Uncheck and recheck the sync box, see if it syncs. Then go to settings/general/More networks/Mobile networks and see if Mobile Data is checked. If it is click on Network mode right below Mobile Data and make sure you are on LTE/CDMA and not Automatic. After that is the internet working on your device ? If not maybe they are working on the tower in your area ?

Yep, went through my settings and everything checks out. As far as the internet, it has been working normal all this time. Also needed to note here that the last time it was synced is dated 02/13/2015 - 8:53 AM.
Also, when I'm playing a game (WWE Immortals or Injustice: Gods Among Us to be exact) and attempt to use an in app purchase, both games will give me the message "Cannot Connect To Google Play".

What's background data in google data synchronization?

Hi,
Sorry if this has been asked before but I did a search (maybe not a good one) and couldn't find any relevant information.
In Settings » Data synchronization » Google there is a check for "Background data".
What is this exactly? What's it good for? When should I have it enabled and when it shouldn't be?

If you're not worried about extremely high roaming fess from your operator you can leave it on while your phone is in roaming mode... but if you don't want your phone to sync your GMail contacts and what not you should turn it off...
That still doesn't explain it what it is...
I don't roam so that's not a problem. Either way, I rarely use the mobile connection, I'm more of a wifi again and if I do roam, I'll make sure I don't use the mobile connection, that's for sure.
So, my question is still standing... :/

The phone is checking with GMail if there's any new mails for example. If you turn of background syncronisation it doesn't do that automatically.
Or you can try it out yourself and then come back with the results?
I thought that Auto-Sync was supposed to do that...

From the SDK.
See the procedure - getBackgroundDataSetting.
public boolean getBackgroundDataSetting ()
Since: API Level 3
Returns the value of the setting for background data usage. If false, applications should not use the network if the application is not in the foreground. Developers should respect this setting, and check the value of this before performing any background data operations.

It means is that if the application is coded correctly, it should check this setting before attempting any type of data usage whilst the application is not in the foreground.
In the context of syncing, it means that it will only automatically sync if the relevant app is in the foreground. I.e. if this setting is unchecked and sync automatically is checked, Gmail will only automatically sync whilst it is the foreground application.
If you do not have sync automatically set, the point is moot, since in order to manually perform a sync you'd have to have the app in the foreground anyway.

Interesting.

[Q] Possible to remove the 'wifi networks available' popup?

I would have thought so, but can't find the option anywhere. I rarely connect to networks aside from my own, so don't want to be notified when networks are available.
Is this possible?
I know there's the "notify me when open networks are available", and I have that unchecked, but I still get popups. I assume that means "Open" networks anyway, as in "networks with no password required".

If that doesnt deactivate the popups then something is wrong with your system. Are you using a stock firmware?

Yep, stock.
You could try to perform a factory reset.
Ok, thanks. I'll keep an eye on it and if it keeps happening, I'll get around to doing that

Email client not syncing over 3G, only works over wifi.

Hi,
I search over the forum but didn't find the answer to my question.
I'm the happy owner of a GS3 stock rom, not rooted, fresh out of the box.
It works verry well. I'm impressed by the device itself but I struggle with a problem.
My exchange account won't syncronize over 3G. Every few minutes, I get a message saying "unable to connect to [my account]"
gmail client works just fine but I have two email addresses (pro and home).
This is not a connectivity issue as other apps works great aover 3G and this is not a network limitation as I can connect thru other wifi networks.
I can do all necessary test and I had a look in all settings I can find without any succes until now.
I had 3 FW update since I own the device, each time I hope it will solve my probelm...
Thanks for your help.
Best regards from Belgium,
JC

Thanks for your answer.
I checked and I can find any exceptions (I can't find the options, to be clear). Under the Data Usage, I have mobile data and Wifi pages but I don't find any way to manage exceptions.
There is a similar issue with the hotmail app - SSL auth error on 3G - Fine on Wi-Fi
The way to resolve that issue is to uninstall the app - remove any accounts associated to it (the hotmail sync account removed authomatically) reboot the phone - then set everything back up BUT DO SO ON 3G and not Wi-Fi!!! For some strange reason this sorts out the issue and can then connect on both 3G and Wi-Fi.
This is obviously specific to the hotmail app - but as this is also email it may also resolve your issue - Worth a shot at least. .Good Luck

Thanks for the info.
How can I uninstall the stock email app? I will try to clear my account but not uninstall the app and see if it solves my problem. I will try it tonight when I will be back in my country and not in roamuing anymore.
Thanks
I don't use the stock app at all - I guess you can remove the associated accounts under settings/accounts then go to app manager and clear cache and data.
My issue was due to a self signing certificate or something - guess that a hidden setting somewhere changes when you accept but wasn't working correctly when setting up accounts over Wi-Fi.
Hope it works for you. You not the option to get a specific mail provide app from the playstore? - Could be another option
I will let you know
I'm quite happy with the stock mail app for now. If I can solve my problem by reseting my account over 3G, I will keep it.

I resolved this issue by:
- deleting the Exchange Active Sync eMail Account I set up over WiFi (Email->Settings->Delete Account);
- created an EAS Account over 3G, selected "Accept every SSL Certificate" (Email->Settings->Add Account).
It seems that creating an EAS Account over WiFi prevents the same account to access the server over 3G/EDGE/... connection.
Tried on Sony Xperia Tablet Z SGP321, default mail app, with Android 4.2.2.

Problem solved!
Hi,
I have also an Galaxy S5 Android and sinds we have Exchange 2010, it does not synchronize any more. If I put my phone on SAVE MODE, it doesn't work. If I DISABLE the SAVE MODE it works.
Go to Setting => Power saving => put Power saving mode OFF
good luck.

disable internet and synchronizing

I've installed a nightly build cm 10.1 yesterday. But when I tap the icon of my provider I activate 3g before disabling my connection. I don't want to connect to the internet by 3g, only with wifi to prevent a high bill.
When i synchronise with gmail, all my apps installed on my tablet are being installed on my phone, I can't find the setting for this. I only want to synchronise with my contact in gmail.
You could disable mobile data in network settings, but when you have wifi it will use that first for data.
On the apps question, you must have ticked the 'backup and restore this device' option when you entered your Google account during phone setup.

Problem is that you can active 3g with a single button, this is crucial for me because I don't want my children access the internet without wifi. I think I'll try a different rom, maybe fox hound.
Quick setting buttons can be removed via quick settings panel usually .

Can't access any google services while using mobile data

hey all. in need of some assistance
i have an h830 running on cricket
i cannot access any google services while connected to mobile data (gmail, play store, drive/docs, etc). works fine over wifi
all other connections (web browsing, ssh, remote desktop) work fine, it's just google services
i don't think this has anything to do with cricket, as i don't have this problem on any other phone if i swap the sim card out
i'm running this deodexed nougat 20f build https://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-lg-g5/development/jan-17-2017-20c-deodexed-kernels-t3539611
though, i do have a 20a stock rooted nandroid backup which has the same problem
i have tried:
restarting, toggling data on/off
force stopping and clearing cache/data of all google services/apps/download manager/"media" app, restarting
wiping cache/dalvik
trying with battery saver on and off
making sure google play services and "media" service both have the following CHECKED/on: "background data" and "unrestricted data usage"
making sure "limit mobile data" is NOT checked
edit: and everything in this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3/help/play-store-downloading-nougat-update-t3530277
to top it all off, i even tried setting up an openVPN server and a shadowsocks server (similar to VPN, traffic tunneled through encrypted socks5 connection). again, while connected to either VPN/shadowsocks through wifi, google services work. when on mobile data, it doesn't work (in both cases i confirmed i am still connected to the VPN as far as the outside world is concerned)
since it doesn't work even over VPN, i feel like it must have to do with some mobile data restriction setting somewhere
anyways, i'm baffled. unusable for me as a daily device without gmail/google services working over mobile data
so maybe this could help someone diagnose the issue:
it is resolved, temporarily, if i toggle to 4g/HSPA+ only mode (settings -> mobile data -> mobile networks -> "GSM/WCDMA"). it is still fixed if i toggle back to LTE
i'm not quite sure what causes it to "break" again. maybe when i connect back to wifi, or change cell towers, i dunno. but it always breaks again (all internet things work except anything related to google services) and i have to perform the toggle again
just to be clear, toggling airplane mode does NOT work. i specifically have to go to 4g/HSPA+ mode, then google services start working, and they keep working if i toggle back to GSM/WCDMA/LTEauto mode - until it stops working again for whatever reason
so... any ideas for a resolution?
if not, anyone know a way i can easily add the ability to toggle modes as a shortcut? thanks
edit: used quickShortcutMaker to at least add a shortcut to that screen, but if anyone knows a scripting tool or something i can use to directly toggle and cut out that step, much appreciated
I have exactly the same problem. Can someone revisit this issue and offer some ideas? Thanks.
same exact thing on the h830 i bought for a friend. she's on cricket and lte refused to work with google play (wi-fi is fine). did the toggle to hspa and everything worked, so i switched it to lte and it's still working.
i don't want to root it and delete the hosts file from the system, but that's what i think the real fix is.
