So fragile, second time the screen breaks with a tiny drop! - Nexus 6 Accessories

So, I've seen fragile phones in the past but the Nexus 6 is beyond! First a tiny drop of 20cm on vinyl surface, cracked big time and screen replaced, then later stage a drop of 30cm on wooden flooring, again the screen shattered.
I had note 1, note 2, nexus 5, sincerely no phone has even been this fragile. If you look the screen of Nexus 6, the glass goes all the way to the edge and curves, so any drop in pretty much whatever way will break the screen simply because there is no protection for it.
I'm going to get the screen fixed again and will need to get a tough case that wraps the screen in. It seems no one tested this phone for drops, literally. It barely made any noise when dropped to have an idea of how soft the first drop was, still shattered the screen.
Has anyone got recommendations for good cases?

Did you have a case on it? A decent case.

Ballistic tough jacket maxx. I wouldn't trust anything else personally.

it seems tough as the name implies, but do you know anything else not so bulky? I don't think this will fit my pocket

Perhaps the UAG. Look in the accessories forum, lots of information there.

Mine fits in my pocket without problems, FWIW.

I've also asked the mods to move this thread to Q&A or accessories forum, as questions don't go in general.

thanks I'll check that

It all depends how it hits the floor. I dropped my Nexus 6 on a tile kitchen floor as I was talking to someone and there is only a tiny scratch on the metal frame from the drop. Based on the noise and height I would call it very durable. It really depends on if you get lucky with your drop for any phone or whether or not you use a thick case.
This is a very slippery, difficult phone to hold though. A lot of new phones are. I liked my Nexus 5 and the phones I had before it so much better than the newer phones. They were all easier to hold if you don't use a case.

I feel ya. I shattered my 1st one after 4 days. It was in a case but not a good one I guess. I went with a trident aegis. It wraps the screen good and still fits in pocket. Its $35 but very tough. I've had one the last 4 years and never broke a phone.

Trident. I am a very big fan of my trident case. It doesn't seem as bulky as the Ballistic one, but I feel like it is the second best case for protection.

I've been rocking the Unicorn Beetle Pro by Supcase since I got my Nexus and I love it. It's very protective yet not too bulky. And it adds a lot of grip to the phone to help you not drop it.

I would put the slim armor case one notch below trident in protection by a hair but also think its thinner/smaller

Good list dont forget slim armor and trident though

No case, but I use a glass screen protector. The phone has survived several minor falls, typically a few feet onto plastic/carpet. I have had to replace the glass screen protector once, as it cracked (which is exactly why I use one).
The phone is so sexy without a case!

The built in screen protector is actually nice for a plastic built in one, since the phone clips right into it, vs being a separate piece the way Otterbox designs their Defender cases. At least in IMO.
It also works with Qi charging just fine and has a cutout for the dimple. Love the case for the price.

I just got my phone and went with the trident aegis

I'm a clumsy oaf at times. I ended up going with the Ballistic Tough Jacket (not the Maxx). It fits into my shirt pockets just fine. I am impressed with it overall as the corners in particular are really well protected. It cost $22 and change at amazon.

I couldn't agree more. Its too bad we have to case it & hide its beauty. I just ordered a bumper case for home use lol. So I get to see it sometimes.

I dropped mine too, after a week of having it. I had all my cases on the way so I didn't have a case on it. I expected the worst. I dropped it on a store floor, corner first. I picked it up thinking it was cracked or something. Nothing, I couldn't even see where the impact occurred even though I knew which corner it hit on. So I guess it depends on the situation. I hardly think it is "So fragile". Words of frustration I understand.
Edit: I also think this phone is sexy! I use the Spigen Air Cushion Bumper in Metal Slate (I have two more on the way along with other 6 Spigen cases).

Amazon tweeted it best....

How necessary is a case on the s4?

I am going to get a s4 soon, and I am wondering if I will need to get a case. Currently on the charge, and when I bought it I got the thicker case vzw offered. Within two weeks it was off, and I have used the phone naked ever since. I have dropped it countless times onto tile and concrete, and the only damage is a few scratches on the back cover and dents in the part of the bezel that extends past the screen (raised edge).
I have read that the s4 is quite fragile. Based on the above, should I get a case? If so, can I get the smallest one available, or should I opt for something bigger?

It's all going to be up to your personal preference. Based on what you said, I would highly recommend a case. The S4 is pretty damn fragile and it's just not worth the risk if you have a history of dropping your phone. As for the size of the case, that is going to be up to you. Obviously the smaller/minimal cases will offer less protection. I like as little bulk as possible so that's fine with me and I have the Spigen Neo Hybrid on my S4 right now. Also consider a screen protector (plastic, tempered glass, etc.). Costly purchases but worth the $250+ investment into your new phone imo. :good:
Dropped mine one time on flat tile from hip height and screen cracked and would not display an image.... Get a case.

I use a speck Candyshell and it doesn't add much bulk or weight to the phone at all, thats my recommendation. The smaller and light silicone cases just don't offer the kind of protection a hard case does. The Candyshells are on the more expensive side, but you can get them on Amazon cheaper than you can on Speck's website

How do you like that case? I have the white on order (as well as the glass screen protector) and was wondering if it looks as good as it does on Spigen's website.
If you're ever going to drop your phone than a case is a good idea.
If it doesn't offer protection to the four corners it's not worth it.
I saw a brand new GS4 dropped from waist height onto asphalt and it bent the metal rim around the screen and messed up the front facing camera.
The guy had a case on it, but it was a plastic sleeve with a stand that didn't cover the corners.
As far as screen protectors go I think they're a waste of money. The phone has gorilla glass. Unless you find yourself regularly working with materials that are actually hard enough to scratch the screen, it's just going to be another layer for glare and bubbling imperfections.
I had a Droid Charge for 2 years and only scratched it once, when I had some marble dust under my finger nail.
JIHAD MY BOI.
I currently have an Incipio DualPro Shine on my S4. Offers pretty decent protection without being stupid thick, like the otterbox.

Yeah I don't have any scratch problems and don't care about cosmetic damage. The main thing I'm worried about is functionality breaking, like screen shatter or sensor damage.

I have a screen protector and a casemate toughcase on mine. A week or so ago I dropped the phone onto concrete from thigh level. I was scared as all could be that it would be cracked cause it sound like it hit hard, and it hit bottom first. Nothing happened luckily. I was wondering about the protection quality of that case, so far so good. It's a two piece case, and can be had for around 20 something bucks on amazon. I recommend getting a case.
I use a combination of a screen protector with the Spigen Slim Armor series case. Phone fits in it like a glove and adds very little bulk. I've dropped it a few times and it's survived with no issues. The case is a double layered rubberized with a plastic cover for looks, and it looks very sleek. It's worth checking out for sure. They're also on sale on Amazon for $14.99 at the moment, add a screen protector (also on sale for 6.99 and comes with 2) and some other random item and you can get the free shipping on orders over $25. Leaving you a link for the case and protector.
NOTE: When I added the protector to my cart and went to check out I noticed it added a iPhone 5 protector even though I was on the GS4 page, I had to remove and add a few times before it correctly showed the GS4 protector. Just a FYI.
EDIT: Well I can't post links because I'm under 10 posts. Sorry, they're just a quick Google search away though!
Get a case. I love having my phone naked, especially with my S4 because of how slim and lightweight it is - but therein lies the problem. I use an Otterbox Commuter case at work. Previously - while the Otterbox cases are good quality - I have refused to use them due to the bulk they add. However the S4's Commuter Otterbox case is fairly slim for a rugged protection case, so I decided to give it a go. It's really not bulky. The Defender on the other hand it way too much bulk for my taste.
I work in a transportation hub - around extra hard concrete floors, moving belts and machinery, metal grating docks, etc. - basically a rough environment. The first day I got the phone I went without a case, but with how slim and lightweight it is all I kept thinking was "I'm gonna drop it, it's gonna break, I'm gonna drop it, it's gonna break". So after work, I went and grabbed the Otterbox from my local Verizon store. I use it at work, and when I get home to my nice, soft, carpeted environment - I immediately take the case off.
A little over 2 weeks after I got it, I woke up and rolled over to check the time on my phone. It slipped out of my hands, fell about a foot and a half, and as it fell it hit against the metal rail on my bed (the frame that your mattress sits on) and landed on my carpeted floor. Grabbed it thinking it would be perfectly fine - it was a very short fall, it landed on carpet, and just grazed the rail. Took a look at it and the frame around the front of the phone, the faux metal one, had a huge gouge in it. I was very disappointed by this, but figured it was a freak accident. About a week ago, I got the Samsung Wireless charging pad for my phone. Set it up next to my bed, and as I was testing it out, I lifted one end of the charging pad while the phone was still on it, creating a slope. The Samsung Wireless Charging Pad doesn't have much of a grip to it, so it slipped off and made that same 1 1/2 foot fall from my bed to my floor, again grazing the metal rail on the way down. Again, I have another gouge in it. While this is a metal rail, it does not have any "sharp" edges to it. The edge itself is rounded, so it's gentler on objects that it comes in contact with, and it is covered by a bedskirt, again, helping to soften the blow should anything hit it.
Having learning my lesson (kind of) with the same freak accident happening with my phone hitting my bed in just to right way during a foot and a half drop (I have never dropped any of my previous phones...from my bed), I am looking into lightweight Carbon Fiber Skins to hopefully add a small layer of protection and sadly, I am resorting to also wrapping the bed frame in foam because I am stubborn and still refuse to use a case when I am not at work.
The point of this long drawn out story is that in my experience - as beautiful as this phone is, and as much of a shame as it is - I highly recommend a case of some sort. Unless you want to be like me and start padding the environment around you. The phone does not seem to handle falls well, even over short distances.
---------- Post added at 03:30 AM ---------- Previous post was at 03:20 AM ----------
As an additional note, you don't need to go all out with a massively bulky case. I recommend something with dual layers though, the internal rubberized layer that helps absorb the shock from a fall and the outer plastic shell that protects against the dents/damage/etc.. While I have the Otterbox, I plan on making the jump to the Spigen Slim Armor Case, it looks much more beautiful than my Otterbox and slimmer too. I currently use their Glas.tR Screen Protector, having found that the glass gives it the naked feel that I love while still provided amazing protection for the screen. Their products really are top notch, high quality, slim, and don't take away from the aesthetic of the phone.

I really like the case so far. It adds a bit of bulk though on an already big phone so it can be a bit cumbersome at times to reach stuff on the screen with one hand (I have pretty small hands lol) but I think it looks great and I am very satisfied with my purchase.
I had mine naked for a week and was scared, it slid out of my pocket at the gym a couple times but onto a rubber floor, so no damage...got tired of being careful and threw on an otterbox commuter..loving it, feels more sturdy and i dont have to worry about it.
had a commuter on my s3 and that thing hit the pavement a good 3-5 times from about 5-6 feet up, no damage at all
Don't Hesitate
After about a week and a half of fretting about dropping it, scratching it, or otherwise, I was very relieved when I finally broke down and got a case. I'm using a semi-thick plastic/silicon case from CruzerLite.com. It's well worth it, looks cool (I actually get a lot of questions and compliments on it's design), and it's quite functional. It also doesn't add a lot of bulk! CruzerLite.com, check it out!
I have not used a case yet don't like the extra thickness. I've dropped it pretty good a few times but only dented the metal. Guess I been lucky

I too had a Charge before my Galaxy 4. I had a silicon case and I still dropped it all the time. It once hit the pavement with such force that it opened and the battery fell out....it still worked. I cannot imagine this kind of resilience on the s4.
However, I found what I think is a great case - it is made by Speck - a very thin harder plastic with a rim to protect the screen AND some kind of rubber ribs all over the back and the sides so you have plenty of grip. I've not dropped the phone yet and I know this case is a good part of the reason. I have the crummy plastic screen cover from Verizon and will be putting a better one on in the next day or two. I got the Speck case at Best Buy but have also seen it at Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Speck-Product...8-3&keywords=speck+case+for+samsung+galaxy+s4
http://www.amazon.com/Speck-Products-CandyShell-Samsung-Galaxy/dp/B00C27R8MM/ref=sr_1_3?
ie=UTF8&qid=1373786228&sr=8-3&keywords=speck+case+for+samsung+galaxy+s4
Then I was still left without a clip for the occasional times when I don't have a purse or pockets. I found a Nitze black foldover case with a clip in the back. It is made with elastic in the middle so you can carry your phone and credit cards. I cut out the elastic and am now able to fit the S4 WITH the Speck case still on it. (Sorry but I can't find a link for that case now).
Hope this helps. As you can tell, I really love the Speck and it comes in several colors.

iloome or spigen?

It seems like two of the more popular TG companys are iloome and spigen. Which one would be a better choice and in your opinion why?
TG screen is going to be paired to a UAG case if that makes a difference

Theres a big thread about it and other guards here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2441894
The consensus I gathered is that they both have the same cutouts and overall clarity, but the spigen takes the slight lead with a better coating leading to more smoothness and fingerprint resistance. That being said it comes at a price of +$15. I'm holding off till black friday/cyber week to see any deals arrise at which point I'll either go with the deal or order an iLoome.

ya haha it's quite the lengthy one. I personally wish they'd have a camera cutoutt, even if its minor degradation of quality from the glass, I'd rather have the cutout, but hate the massive top cutout ones.
I actually like iloome flex, you can barely tell it's on there. After a week of use the screen is just as slick as without the screen protector but it did drag a bit when it was brand new on the screen. I have a Glas t.r as back up for when/if the iLoome flex needs to be replaced.

Haha, funny you say that. I have the glas.tr and it feels exactly as if it's not there. The smoothness is just solid. I never believed in screen protectors until I got this one for my Note 3. I learned my lesson from my Note 2 that got a random scratch from maybe keys in the pocket or something. Either way, you won't be disappointed. Others complained about the glas.t, so that's why I got the glas.tr. Great decision.
I have the glastr Spigen on my Note 2 and I absolutely love it.
When I got the Note 3 I immediately ordered the same one for it, but I have had two Spigens for the N3 now & both where defective.
At that point, I decided to go a different route & ordered the ilhoome flex. The flex went on perfectly, it is completely invisible.
The flex is not quite as slick as the Spigen & doesn't reject fingerprints & smudges as well as the Spigen, but it is also completely invisible as opposed to the thick kinda ugly Spigen.
You set on getting a glass SP?

Spigen one....and I really like their products....
I have the Iloome and it's great. It maybe possible that the Spigen is a by hair smoother though I'm not going to take the Iloome off and spring another $50 nzd just to find out.
I don't think you'll find many people who can give an honest comparison for this reason. Besides the obvious expense, fitting a screen protector is a real pain.
At the end of the day the Spigen may be slightly better but it's certainly not twice as good yet it costs almost twice as much. Something to think about.

how were they defective?
I have used both and the Spigen is the best over all. As said in second post they both have the same cutout however the Spigen glass resistance to fingerprint is unmatched. The iloome while easy to clean it attracts fingerprints like a mirror. I returned the Spigen due to the cut not been accurate enough to sit flush with Spigen Neo Hybrid case. The iloome sits flush with my Spigen Neo Hybrid Case so no trapped dirt.

Just fyi.. just got my last email from iloome. (promptly emailing me on a daily basis (2 days) to get this resolved))... unfortunately I believe this is one in a million but the adhesive on the tip top right was not tacky enough to adhere down and hold. (first case out of the 100's of reviews i've read.. so i asuume the chances of it happening again are at least one in a 1000.....(i have bad luck that somehow forms a field around me.... at work they call me the black cat because things seem to just start breaking down when i'm around not touching a thing.. lol) ANYWAY..... I have to say iLoome tech/help support was A++ Class... they were very apologetic.... basically a picture sent and even thouugh they could not see any issues from there end (hard to take a pic of a clear screen) they apologized completely.... told me steps to take to get a new one shipped out... and i need not ship the other one back.... can't ask for better customer service then that..... best i've probably ever had actually.. as far as screen protectors go I will order from them from here on out just because of the way they treated me as a customer and how prompt they were to make it right

I would agree...a glass screen protector is merely that. some may be a bit better then others but by bit i do mean bit..... if you want to pay twice the cost..... triple the cost etc... for that bit that is your choice.... i payed the amount i payed for the flex.. and that was considerably cheap really... considering this is what happens when u drop a phone from 8 foot or lower (with a decent.. and i mean decent phone cover on it) it's going to shatter that 10-50 dollar screen protector depending on if it lands on that sweet spot.... and in 95% of the cases it may very well do that. the rest are going to shatter the "outter" glass that you applied to it.... NOW the question is did you buy from a reputable company.... I think we can all admit who is reputable and who isn't just from the debate on xda (sorry text is a bit jumped been sick)

Bodyguardz Pure

I'm probably not going to get alot of fans for this one due to the price but I can vouch for the quality of the Bodyguarz Pure tempered glass screen protector. I had one of these on my iPhone for over a year and it never lost its oleophobic coating, got one scratch or chipped.
I decided to go the cheap route on my G3 and purchased an i-Blason off Amazon. I installed it today was really disappointed. It chipped on the corner very easily and it was already a fingerprint magnet out of the box although it said it had multiple coatings. I pulled it off and headed down to the AT&T store and grabbed a Bodyguardz. Its $35 just like the Zagg or Spigen. It has a lifetime warranty. I have owned the Spigen and Zagg on other family members phones and each has their pros and cons. The Spigen is very nice but can be spotty on customer service. I have also had issues with all of the Spigens seating solidly around the edges. They always seem to have spots the adhesive is not good. The Zagg (on a Galaxy S4) seems to be good but lost its coating quickly as well. The Bodyguardz has the best oleo coating hands down. Its drawbacks are thickness (.4mm) and edges are not rounded. Still I can easily over look these things as the oleo coating is my #1 priority. Another thing I like is the Pure has a cutout for the earpiece which most of the cheaper ones do not protect the edge of the screen around the earpiece.
Anyway, for those heading into the AT&T store tomorrow check these out.
UPDATE: Many are experiencing touch sensitivity issues and have returned this shield. I also had the same issues.
I was a fan of the bodyguardz glass screen protector I had for my old note 2. I was sad when I couldn't find one from them for my g2.
Do they have ones for the g3 listed on their site?
Not sure if they are listed on the site. I just went in and picked one up at the store. If you are Premier, I would think they can be ordered though.
Do u find the accuracy and sensitivity are less with this protector? It seems that way to me. U are absolutely right about the oleophobic coating though. And marks that do appear, disappear on their own through coming in contact with fabric from my pocket

I took mine off. It definitely affected the screens sensitivity. I got sick of tapping the same icon 5 times before it would register. I wasted 35 dollars. I'm awaiting my nillkin screen protector. It's thinner and hopefully doesn't affect screen responsiveness. The oleophobic coating is great though.

There's a discussion at Android Central about this as well. I'm going to take mine off and return it.

I recommend Nillkin as well. I've had it on my last couple of phones and it amazing quality for the price. They make great products.
For $6.74, seriously.

Sorry I didn't come back to this thread and edit my original post. I also returned mine over this past weekend. I did love the coating but I too experienced some sensitivity issues. I didn't even read about them but got fed up and got my money back.
I decided to go with the iCarez off Amazon.

At $8.95 it is unbelievable. It has rounded edges and is almost an exact clone of the Zagg that costs $40. Even the installation method is exactly the same. It is thinner at .33mm and I haven;t noticed any touch sensitivity issues at all.

Is this a full screen or case friendly?

Its full screen but does not have the cutout for the earpiece, its just the cutaway. If you can, go to a Best Buy Store and ask to see a Zagg. Usually someone in their mobile dept will have one on their G3 or S5. That will give you an idea of the quality, thickness, etc. It is exactly the same. I'm guessing same plant in china makes them and Zagg just overcharges.

Is the screen look really smooth with no air bubbles?
Im looking for a tempered glass screen protector which tapers (or just going) around the screen at the edges.
I ordered one from ebay, but the top of the screen is not defended because the cut part. From the other hand, this is not going around at the edges...

LG G3 spigen slim armor case

I need a case for my G3 and I am considering the Spigen Slim armor case. Any reviews on the Spigen Slim Armor Case?

Before you post search please. There are many posts on this case. Look in the G3 cases OP, I also wrote a review on it and some others. I'll try to post the link to the cases OP.
Edit:
Here us the main case OP which has plenty of info on this case.

I left my review on Amazon. In short, it's great.
The only problem:
Two different models with or without gap for antenna.
Had to send mine back to amazon because they send me the Korean model with the ugly gap.
Apart from that the case looks great.
There are some reviews on Youtube. I ordered mine today, but paid a higher price since it's not available in my country. Seems like one of the best quality cases out there.
I dropped my G3 from a height of about 2 feet onto a tile floor (fell out of my shirt pocket) with the Spigen Slim Armor case on. It landed on the "Air Cushion Corner" and cracked the screen rendering it mostly useless. Aside from that, the finish on the back showed wear from day one and looks pretty bad after a few weeks.
Spigen offered to refund the cost of the case so their customer service is fine, but I'm not trusting the Slim Armor for my G3 when I get it back from repair.
Could just be a crazy incident and maybe a rare occurrence, but I wanted to share anyway. Moral of the story, don't drop your phone.

I've dropped mine more times than I'm proud of and it hasn't broken my phone. Also it does show wear, but I think it was a fluke for your phone to break. It even fell down the stairs when I was going to my engineering class and my phone is perfect. The case has done scratches, but it could be because of my tempered glass screen protector which is also fine. I've never had any phone break in these cases but that's just me. I think it'd a good case in fact I have 2 of them and its my favorite case. Individual results may vary.
I've had about 6 Spigen cases over the years and they have all been fantastic except Slim Armor for the G3. Mine was defective and had to send it back. Mine did not fit tight around the phone and it would come off every time I would take it out of my pocket. I'm sure mine was a isolated problem because their cases have always been great. I'm hoping they make a tough armor.

Ya I think mine was a fluke, but it still blew my mind that the phone broke on the first drop like that. Freak accident I guess. I dropped my last LG phone countless times over 2 1/2 years and it never broke. Just one of those things I guess.

I've always read great things about Spigen so that's why I chose it for my G3. The intial impression of fit and finish was great, but the excessive wear on the painted plastic back is what turned me off. I'm just used to a full TPU case is all.

The back on mine isn't painted it's the color of the plastic. The scratches match the cases color which makes then less noticeable, however, or still sucks that it does scratch much easier than a TPU case.

Maybe it is color specific then. I got the metal slate and it was a painted on color that showed white under every scratch.

Ringke cases for Galaxy S7

http://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01B3JXS...lid=1ICKUOTIRAMXH&coliid=I3GH6BSRL4R5CL&psc=1
Found these available on amazon. Always loved there cases for my nexus 5x and galaxy s6.
Glad there is another folk who likes ringke cases ha. I am using ringke slim on s6 right now... thinking of gettin s7 edge case as well.. r u gettin s7 or s7 edge?
Edit: 9.99 usd compared to 8.99 uk pounds lol
I have a black Ringke slim on my S6 right now, and a Rinke Slim black case for my S7 sitting on my desk. I freaking love these cases, and coupled with a full-coverage tempered glass protector, it brings the surface of the screen right up to the edge of the case, so it's seamless.
I'd pass on Ringke. They messed up the G4 cases ROYALLY. First batch made the flashlight glare, so flashes were made useless since it scattered so badly. Then I realized that only after using it a few times, the glue came apart. I asked Ringke for an exchange, and found that they have a very limited warranty. As a result, I went to Amazon and they took it back and gave me a full refund.

No dust inside the case? The fitment is so poor on mine that dust slips in even with these dust covers.
Anyone bought Ringke here? http://homescreen.pl/en/galaxy-s7-edge/ ? Seems like reseller, but not many opinions about it. I need to get it shipped to Sweden.
I've had one for the s6 and i must admit it does make your phone look sleek.. But after few months of using it and rotating cases I noticed my power and volume buttons were getting scratched up badly. Or rather rubbed the paint (?) off my buttons... I know it's not from my other cases because they're tpu material and there's no way it's cause it.

Just got the Ringke Onyx case, check it out HERE
The case has great texture on the sides and the back and one thing I'm noticing is that it might be too many textures on the case. You have ridged bumpers, the brushed steel on the back along with a perforated back border. It just might be a tad too busy for those who are seeking a more minimalist case.
