Factory Reset? - Galaxy S6 Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Reset?
ANyone know how to do a factory reset? I go into Setting under back up and reset and perform the process and the phone just shuts down and nothing appears to happen.
Method 2: I also powered off and the power on holding vol up and home and the screen just goes black. I believe that I am supposed to see the stock recovery, correct? However, I just see black. Anyone else?
ANy Ideas?

Are you rooted ?

Yes - I just read that rooting blows away the stock recovery (at least makes it invisible) but it is supposedly still there

Found this is the CF-Auto Root thread posted by another member and it worked:
FYI for everyone wanting to do a reset or something. The recovery is still there, we just can't view it correctly.
The steps to do a reset:
Volume down - 4 times
Power Button
Volume down - 7 times
Power Button
Then wait 30 seconds or so and hit the power button again to reboot.

[Q] Help Needed for a complete NOOB

Hi all, new member as i just got a samsung galaxy S2!
Ok, so i have bought a sgs2 of a friend at work. He was messing with it(trying to root it, he thinks) and did something wrong and messed it up, so i bought it of him for very cheap to have a go at fixing it. Things that are wrong with it - when you turn the phone on it just comes up with samsung Galaxy S2 gt-19100 with a yellow triangle under it, it wont go any further. I can get into the download menu, but i cant get into the menu to do a factory reset. Another thing is it will not charge, when i plug it in to the mains or a pc it just comes up with a battery and a little circle inside it, but dosnt move and dosnt charge! O and yet another thing i dont now what firmware was on it before, but i no it was O2 if thats any help. If i have left anything out that you need to no, ill be hear all night trying to get this thing going! Is it even possible for this to be fixed as i had a good look threw this website and the internet and cant find anything about this.
Thanks
1). Check under battery for exact model number
2). Download a stock ROM for the model you find
3). [optional but recommended] check the battery level and if necessary charge in another phone to make sure it's not going to die while doing the next step
4). Flash a stock ROM via Odin
5). If it doesn't boot, go to recovery and factory reset

Hi, thanks for ur reply Oinky. Where would i find a stock rom? I am completely new to this sorry, and under Model, it just says GT-19100, is the bit below anything to do with it aswell, SSN: -19100GSMH? Also at the min i cant get into recovery to do a factory reset? Again sorry for my ignorance and thanks for the reply
You can find stock ROMs http://www.samfirmware.com/ or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278, the latter having a tutorial too.
Are you sure you can't get into recovery? Your first post made me think you were getting into download mode and thinking that was recovery. Vol Up + Home + Power (from off)

Hi, sorry for confusing, when i hold vol up home and power it dosnt do anything, just turns the phone on, well to the screen it wont go past! Also how do i no which stock rom to choose? what letters should i be looking for?
I think you're still doing it wrong then, as I don't think there even exists a kernel for this phone which doesn't have recovery. Hold volume up and home, then also hold power for about five seconds.
Regarding stock ROM, just pick the latest for your region (presumably XEU if by o2 you mean UK o2).

Flashing literally any I9100 kernel, be that stock or custom would still have recovery. I suspect the device is much worse off than first realised.
Once you flash the stock firmware the phone will boot up normally again.
Any firmware will work.
any ideas how i would fix a handset that is alot worse than 1st expected??

Follow the Odin method and you will be fine. As long as you have Kies closed (This includes the 3 kies apps that run in task manager!) there will be no problems.
Hopefully you will get a bargin on a new smartphone.
Well that didnt go well, it fails with odin3 after about 5 seconds, Should i just give up?
What error messages if any do you get? Screenshots or logs would help.

[Q] HELP!!! Bootloop/Security Error/No Download Mode

So, I hope I'm not completely bricked. I was using LGNPST to flash a stock ROM, and at 85%, the phone rebooted and is now in a bootloop that ends in "Security Error". I cannot get to Download Mode either, nor is it seen by ADB (obviously). Can anyone help?
Try this- with the phone powered off, press and hold down the volume and power key simultaneously. You will be prompted with a Factory hard reset screen. Confirm the actions and you should be good as new.

I was stock 4.0.4 unrooted (this all started because the phone won't pull the JB update OTA, and the phone wasn't showing in ADB to root it), and yes, it's the LG logo with Security Error on the bottom.

[Q] Phone is going crazy stuck in reboot and will not get service or wifi

My phone was perfectly fine this morning had no problems until I got out of class and was listening to music while it was plugged up to the car where it rebooted which happens but now I can't get it to stay on 5 seconds without doing a reboot. It also Can not find service and the NFC is freaking out what do I do? I also get system is not responding. I am on the latest version and it has not been rooted.

Option 1
open up the microSD slot.
locate the little red button.
Hold it for 3 seconds (this will hard power it off)
Then hold power for 3 seconds to boot up.
success?
_______________________________________________________________________________________
Option 2
Do a factory reset (you'll have to be quick, but after 5.6 times you'll get there)
_______________________________________________________________________________________
Option 3
Plug device into PC, and run PC Companion and do a restore.
That will fix it.

Yes. Both options 2 and 3 will delete all user data. You can make a backup of user data using PC companion. And then restore this at a later date.
But it sounds like the reason for your reboots is a conflict. restoring user data will probably give you the same error.

There's Safe Mode for Android too

Hold power button until power off dialog comes on
Press and hold Power Off until another dialog asks if you want to boot to safe mode
Boot to safe mode, troubleshoot (likely a recently installed app giving you problems)

So you have plugged it into PC Companion and done a restore?
Then on your device, (Ultra)
go into settings,
then find backup and restore, and then do a factory reset.
That will delete all user data off.
If it still does it then there must be a hardware issue with the Ultra.
You could try flashing an FTF file, but that will only reinstall the OS like you did with the PC companion.
Take it back to the shop and tell them.

Sorry being off topic how to do factory reset as you mentioned in option 2?
I know 2 ways to reset one by pressing red button and second by pressing power and vol+ buttons. And other to factory reset go to settings, and then factory reset.
Is there any other way to do it?

I am on complete stock, no root. I tried the safe mode boot suggestion and it worked for me. Press the power on/off button on the side of the phone, until the Power off/Airplane mode options appear in the centre of the screen. Press and hold the first on-screen option (Power off), then the safe mode menu appears. I had no idea the menu was there until I tested it. I didn't boot to safe mode, as my phone is working fine, so it was unnecessary for me to do that. The option is definitely there though.

As far as I'm aware, there are no hardware keys to get you to recovery.
1)*Boot into LG G3 Recovery Mode Using*HARDWARE BUTTONS
This method is a fail-proof method that’ll always work for you, unless you’ve broken your device’s*hardware keys. In such a case you’d be left with only the other two software based methods.
IMPORTANT NOTE:*Do not try to reboot into recovery mode unless you’ve installed a custom recovery like TWRP / CWM on your LG G3, otherwise you might end-up hard resetting your phone.
Power off your device and wait for 5-10 seconds until the device is fully switched off.Press and hold *‘Volume Down*+ Power’ buttons*together and release them as soon as you see the LG*logo on your phone’s screen. Now immediately press and hold the*‘Volume Down + Power’*buttons again until you see the*‘Hard reset screen’Press power button once, and then again to confirm hard reset. If you have a custom recovery installed, your phone won’t hard reset and will boot into recovery mode.Your phone will boot into recovery mode.*Use Volume buttons to navigate Up and Down between options and use Power button to select an option in recovery (if in case it’s not touch supported)

I am not sure the difference between a soft or hard brick. But currently my G3 will not go past the LG screen. Root or no root?

It's still very early an I see a few people going stir crazy over finding a way to root their phones. I for one am not sure I want to root just yet, the reason being Samsung pay. If it's going to be as awesome as they say it will be I don't wanna miss out due to tripping Knox.
Now I do love flashing and all things root related but I'm willing to hold out.
What about you? Root or no root? Why?
I root right away even if I don't have a "good" reason too. Its the because I can. I don't really care about the tripping knox thing I guess because if you have insurance there is always a chance the device could get "broken". Then you don't have to worry about if its tripped or not. Thats the position Samsung has put me in I wouldn't typically do something like that. So ya now I'm just waiting for TWRP then I will try and make a ROM.
I tried to use chainroot, and got stuck on the logo screen. normally you'd battery pull, go to recovery and wipe data. but i can't find any way to shut down the phone, before doing power-upVol-home.
And now i've tried to odin a stock recovery to undo chainroot, odin fails. could re-run odin with auto-reboot off, but again, no way to shut off and go to recovery.
at this point i'm stuck with the blue screen asking me to use smart switch on PC to do emergency recovery. but smartswitch says the device is not recognized.
thoughts? thanks!
I don't care about warranty just samsung pay. I heard it was harder to make roms with exinos is that true?

And now i've tried to odin a stock recovery to undo chainroot, odin fails. could re-run odin with auto-reboot off, but again, no way to shut off and go to recovery.
at this point i'm stuck with the blue screen asking me to use smart switch on PC to do emergency recovery. but smartswitch says the device is not recognized.
thoughts? thanks!

That sucks bro. I feel your pain. What happens if you press volume down, power and home for like 30 seconds?

Not sure what device you have but there was a video that said not to use the edge version of the root, and to use the regular S6 version. Running the S6 version will fix your broken device. Take this with a grain of salt, I'm just telling you what I saw. I will post the video link if I get a chance.
PS not sure if this actually helps you or not..
Rooting broke Google Play Movies on my phone, battery life was miserable and phone never went to sleep. After I unrooted everything went back to normal. So I am not going to root and just wait until things are cleaned up.
Every phone I've ever had has been rooted as soon as I got it. Not this time though, because of Samsung Pay.
If rooting breaks Samsung Pay, I'll never root the phone

not for me right now: i have the turquoise error screen telling me to use smart switch. volDown + power for 7 seconds turns the screen off... and then right back on a couple seconds later. and i can't seem to slip in the recovery key sequence during that gap.
volDown + power + home is a diff story: that brings me into download mode. but i don't have anything that works in odin right now without failing. very possible that i don't have the correct rom, or that the rom is fine but i just need to go into recovery mode to complete, but i can't seem to do that!

How about volume up+power+home to stock recovery to perform a factory reset?
No root for me I'm afraid! If I root this device I lose my nfc payment app (Semble) as it checks for root and locks the app if it's detected. Besides I've rooted every other phone I've had since iPhone Gen 1 and I don't really have the time anymore now I've got a 1 year old boy!

nope. that's what i meant by "the recovery key combination" that i mentioned. only the dload mode key combo works, volUP + power + home does nothing.

Why is ODIN failing? Drivers installed? Where did you get this recovery? If ODIN can see your device you flash back to unrooted stock firmware.
Also, someone mentioned that you can Vol down + power will shut the device down. As soon as the screen goes black take your finger off the power button, press and hold Vol up + home then press power. You can go right from download mode to recovery with just the buttons.
great questions:

1. i got them from mobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-G925F/
I would love to hear if this is a good source. also, I don't know if it matters exactly which of those firmwares to choose (there are many, you choose country and carrier)-- i don't know which one came with this phone as it was sent as a demo to me and i didn't take a screen shot of the info screen (does it matter?)

2. that doesn't work for me, tried 15 times. I'm stuck with this turquoise error screen telling me to use emergency recovery in smart switch. i can easily get over to dload mode too. From either place, volDown + power gets the black screen and then immediately goes right back to the turquoise error screen, ignores anything else i seem to press, can't get into recovery.
No root for me either. It's hard lol. I miss it mostly for the adblocker. But I'm too worried that rooting with make it so I wouldn't be able to use Samsung pay when it comes out! If a root method is released that won't trip the KNOX sensor then heck ya, I'll root right away!

Did you ever fix this? I'm having the same issue, but because I flashed TWRP...
I need to use Smart Switch, but that says my device is unsupported... SM-G925F
EDIT: Re-flashed root, and all good again!

yep, i think that was a key step for me too: re-flashed the root thing, after trying to re-flash stock a bunch of times.
