LWW (wt19): Unlocking and rooting? (stock firmware)

Hi!
I updated to 4.1.B.0.587 and tried rooting but it's impossible. The only method I found involved flashing an older kernel from other phone model, but all except one can't be flashed because Flashtool pops an error. The ST18i kernel is the one that can be flashed, but on restart it gives a black screen. The only way to get out from there is to flash back the original 4.1.B.0.587 firmware for my phone.
Any idea what to do there?
If not, I'm aware you can unlock the bootloader and install whatever you want. I understand the bootloader unlocking part (and I have "Boot loader unlocked allow: yes"), but then how do I root exactly? I see threads here where you can install a custom (already rooted) kernel, but I'd like to root the stock kernel/firmware. I need CWM I believe. Can someone post the steps how to do this?
Thanks
Btw, I have the America variation, wt19a. Does that change anything?
You can unlock bootloader and flash a custom pre-rooted kernel and that's the only way you can get root without downgrading your phone. There is a extended stock kernel in dev section which is just a rooted, CWM installed stock kernel. You can try that after unlocking your bootloader. It's always better to use a custom prerooted kernel because by installing it the root and CWM is permanent but if you downgrade, root and install CWM via x-parts, it is only temporary and you can easily lose the root by flashing some mods itself.

Thanks, I just got stock root with .587 with this guide. I didn't look into it at first because it was meant for .431 (this thread has it the same). But it works like a peach. I used Xperia-ROOT.rev4 and made a "factory reset" after the process. Ended up with a fresh .587 rooted, Superuser app survived the reset. Installed SuperSU from market and deleted the Superuser apk from /system/app. Everything looks good and feels fine.
If anyone sees this, forget downgrading if you have a LWW, use that guide.
Btw, the ghost of GB haunts me... my last phone was a Galaxy Note and I had to go back to GB, wipe and then install an ICS rom (because of the eMMC bug). Now I get a LWW and the only way to root is falling back to GB, root and install ICS. **** :silly:

[Q] [L9] Root problems on cm11

Hi guys!
I finally unlocked my l9. Finally! And I flashed artas's cm11 for L9. It looks cool and works fine but i have one problem.
After flashing the rom and gaps i flashed SuperSU like in case of rooting stock (stupid me) and in system i have no root access on SuperSU.
Do i have to install other apps for it? Or I just have to reflash the whole rom and do not flash supersu? Plz Help me I am queit a noobster when it comes to custom rom's (this the first i've ever done)
With a rom with root, simply install SuperSu from the Playstore. If there's already a superuser app present, the zip install may break something, I would flash rom and Gapps anew, then go to the store.
Yea reflashed coz of another bug in the rom (the search pannel breaks the launcher) so it works now without the superSU. Thx for help

4.0.4 TO DN4 Rom Questions

Hi all, I want to upgrade my i9300 that is unlocked using Galaxunlocksim. I am on 4.0.4 , Kernel version 3.0.15-671647.
I have root access and I have FWUpgrade .apk and .odex renamed to disable ota updates.
Do I need to upgrade to a more recent rom., and re unlock the phone(If so should I restore the o.t.a upgrade files?)
I tried to install TWRP2.8 but it wont install (gets to 99% then gives crash message). When I initiate recovery mode I am prompted to use Odin or continue with booting.
I am confident with the flashing process so any help with the steps to to install the DN4 Rom from my current setup would be very much appreciated.

Root on Lollipop custom ROMs?

Hi,
I've been fiddling around with Lollipop for the Z2 device today and I've got a question.
Are 5.1.1 based custom ROMs root-possible? I've first managed to make a stock pre-rooted 5.1.1 .ftf and everything was fine, both root and recovery, but my phone was overheating like crazy on it so I decided to try a custom ROM, Paranoid Android to be exact. I got the latest stable from their site and almost successfully installed it using the TWRP. Almost, because I forgot to re-flash the recovery. Then it turned out I can't root it and couldn't find a way to do so. I've since gone back to 4.4.2 using Flashtool, rooted it and installed the XZDualRecovery.
So, my question(s) is/are, what did I do wrong? Would flashing the flashable XZDualRecovery after the custom ROM and gapps sufficied? Or maybe flashing the SuperSU package? Or maybe, is it impossible to have a rooted custom ROM on 5.1.1? And if isn't, I'd be really grateful if someone supplied me with a hint or something, because I don't want to go through all the trouble only to downgrade again.
I'm using this for recovery : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2785598
And used this guide for the prerooted .ftf, though I guess it's not related at all to my questions, except the SuperSU package I'm thinking of using: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z2/general/4-4-4-creating-rooted-update-package-t2933155
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: OK, I've tried my own advice and flashed SuperSU and flashable XZDualRecovery after flashing the custom ROM and Gapps. Now the phone is rooted, but the custom recovery doesn't stick. I tried installing again using the installer version, which soft rebooted into the custom recovery, but after the manual boot the recovery was gone and the garbled screens were back.
My question has changed then, what is the way to having a custom recovery on a custom ROM on lollipop 5.1.1?
EDIT2: Nvm fixed it... , I went to NUT's website and made recovery using his kernel creator.
Sorry for wasting space then and I hope my post helps someone eventually.
You can flash superSU via recovery on any rom
Worst that can happen is it bootloops.

SGP511 23.4.A.1.264 nonRooted Update to Marshmallow or Easy Root Method

Hey Guys.
I'm looking for an easy way to upgrade to marshmallow or to root the Firmware mentioned in Threadtitle.
Is there an File available with whom i can upgrade to M without losing my data? ( My kids will kill me if im losing their game stats.)
Alternative is to root my lollipop installation so that i can delete unused Apps and install SD Fix stuff.
PC Companion doens't show me an OTA.
Im running the european (German) Version
Thanks in advance!
Regards Daimonion
If you're considering rooting, that would be the safest option, since I'm pretty sure Xperifirm wipes the internal storage. Root and then flash the latest firmware through recovery.

Thanks for your answer. Which way is the best way to root starting from lollipop?
Okay, after trying to root my z2 Tablet yesterday i unlocked the bootloader and so did a reset to the system. Now i am clean and can do whatever i want... ^^
Regarding to this state i tried to install a custom recovery that i can install an marshmallow rom.
Reading a lot i was not able to install twrp nor an custom kernel with twrp nor an rom.
i tried this method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2794175 XZDualRecovery
and the rom i want to install is this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xpe...lipopprerooted231a128z2-tabletsgp511-t3100821
cause it's the latest available and it's prerooted
Install XZDualRecovery dow not work because the Rom is an 23.4.A.1.264 5.1.1 Rom.
Any tips that i can get twrp to work to flash the romzip?
Thanks in advance
