Does any one have the same issue? I have set it to always be on but it only works when the screen is on. Please advise.
It was that way with the S8+ also. I thought it was supposed to work when the screen is off but I could never get it to work. Kind of a bummer since I think it would be a cool feature.

Super helpful as always. I thought maybe the always on display had to be on, but it doesn't seem to matter. The only way it works is with the screen on that I've found.
No problems with edge lighting here. Been working every time.

But it's not working if the screen is off or in standby that is what he says. I had a s8 and i never get it work
It didn't work for me on the s8 bjr MSG and WhatsApp are working fine now. Nothing else
I had mine working and it got turned off. It was only working with screen on. Went back into settings, and apparently the settings got reset to default when I switched samsung themes. Changing the settings back fixed my issue. I can confirm, that at least on mine, edge lighting does work with screen off.
Edit: Apparently it's no longer working again after just trying it.
you guys have to turn it on for all apps, normally it is on just for 3 of them

Tried that too. Still doesn't work.
Maybe is not working when you are using one of the live infinity display themes...? Have you tried with normal backgrounds (and consequently with normal AOD - not live one).
Maybe is just working when the device is screen down?.
Just a thought.
I've had no issues with it working with the screen off. I have AOD on and the original theme still. I only have it set to come on when I get a text thru Textra app
It turns out you have to make sure that pop up notifications is on when the screen is off for all the apps you want the edge lighting to work.:fingers-crossed:
Yet another stupid software design from Samsung, all most of us want is that the edge lighting can replace the notification led, right? But no somehow they over complicate this ****.

But the annoying what's app box pops up too when you go look at your phone.
The one app that works when the screen is off is messages for me.
So, the LED is way too tiny for my aging eyes (also cannot get it to change colours with Lightflow anyway). I am looking for some sort of app that can show a notification on the screen when the screen is off. I don't want the screen to turn on. I just want some sort of icon to show up. I used to use an app called NoLed that would do this. You could customize icons for different notifications, colours, timing, duration, etc. Looks like that app is long gone.
I've been trying a bunch of different "edge lighting" apps, hoping to find one that will simply light up the edges to notify my (when the screen is off). So far, none of them work the way I want (or at all).
Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

Ah-ha! Thank you so much sir!
There are several drop-in AOD replacement apps, and they work well, but... From all reports they drink your battery too much to be worth it. Too bad, not sure why Huawei didn't go that next obvious step and have control over 'per app' notifications and such. It pretty much makes the stock AOD useless unless you really, really like knowing what time it is.
Maybe give a try to this, a perfect AOD application fully customizable !

I tried this and was unable to get it to work. All I want it to do is light up the edges of the screen when the screen is off and a notification comes in. I had all the settings looking like they were correct. I chose difference colours for different apps, but no go. It wouldn't even work when trying "test". It would only work with the screen on.

Same here.. 30% overall drain overnight.. Means at least 20% by the app itself
Just gave this app a try and it's got a few quirks to it. If I leave the "allow fingerprint functionality" after about 3 seconds the fingerprint location lights up and that's all that shows on the screen.
I also noticed when unlocking, face detection is no longer automatic. I have to double tap the screen to dismiss this app and then double tap again to start the face unlock.
Its a shame the stock aod is so terrible

The stock AOD will hopefully be better soon as Huawei in it's p30 pro latest firmware will add 3rd party access to the AOD, so developers can add functionality to the AOD.

Probably be nest year when we get it then.
Get actual Samsung Edge Lighting Notifications with any app while your screen is off!
Since we all know Samsung only did half the job with this feature, this app will enable you to trigger Edge Lighting (the real one !) when your screen is off. It works with any app by reading the app notification creating a new temporary notification that triggers edge lighting (you won't notice it in your notification list).
You can set custom color filters for your apps, based on their names.
Real Samsung Edge Lighting
Extremely minimal battery drain
No fake AOD Screen
Works with ANY app (including Messenger!)
Initial setup is a bit tedious, but that's mostly Samsung's fault.
Any suggestion to improve the app is -of course- welcome!

Tried with few apps like gmail, whatsapp and telegram notifications on my s10plus and its working great.
Great works but for me that I use AOE to have the notch light notification instead of the absent led, it doesn't work.

Thanks for your answer , but with Always On edge I can have the notch notification untill I read it. With the edge lightning I have only the lighter when the notification come. I like to have both.
I was using always on edge and holey light together to have this effect but this affect the battery so I was looking for another solution.

Well I use my app for Edge Lighting (around the edges, not the notch) to see when a notification comes, and Holey Light to remind me of unread notifications.
I can't seem to get it to work. I have edge lighting set to always. But when my screen is off it doesnt work. I'm actually getting only this app's notification with it's color (black)

Yes the same happen to me samsung s10e
On my S10e it is working.
But I probably do not fully understand philosophy of the edge light at all or something, because for what is this good for when it only do the effect one time, which takes only few seconds and thats all.
How will this help me to alert to SMS for example when I get back near the phone and look at it?. Or it is not ment as substitute for notification LED?

No it's not meant as a substitute for notification LED. First release was actually on phones that had a notification LED. It's just a pretty way to display notifications. And if your screen is off, it will prevent it from turning on.

Edge Lighting just makes the notification more noticable if the phone is in view, that has always been its only purpose. It allows you to see, by color, what the notification is. It is not and never was meant to a substitute for the notification. Now, if you use Holey Light and Edge Lighting you can have both...
Can't wait to try this. Curious though, how did you learn to make Android apps in a day then upload it to the play store that quick. I started learning a while ago for games and still not the best at it and uploading to the play store normally take max of 24 hours to get on to the store lol.
The app is working great, however, these would be my suggestions for a slight improvement:
1: Add a search function, as the list can be quite long.
2: After you switch on an app, move it to the top of the list, so that when you enter the app all of the ones marked "on" would be at the top.
I can't think of anything else as it is working just fine.
What happens when multiple notifications come in? Will it cycle through them?
Yes
Just tried it but I am sticking with just Holey Light. It would be nice to have this maybe cycle back on for a set amount of time so you could use it as a notification light.
I'm coming from a v20 with the second screen that showed me the icons of mail/snapchat etc so I didn't have to unlock the phone. Does the v60 have a notification LED or always on part that does the same thing?
The v60 does not have a notification light but it does have an always on display which shows the icons of the notifications like the v20 did. There's also a setting called brief notifications that shows you what the notification says from the always on screen display.

The AOD is on the primary phone and configurable via Settings. It works more or less the same with or without the dual-screen attachment.
If you're using the dual-screen accessory, the second screen comes built into a case that folds open to display both screens side-by-side.
If you have the case closed, you can't see either screen.
But the outside of this case has something very similar to that old LG "second screen" that showed notifications.
It's black/white only, is like "two rows" high, and is fairly low resolution, but it gets the job done when the thing is folded closed.
IIRC, it shows the time/date and icons for any notifications that have come in, at which point you'd open up the case to actually access your notifications and deal with them.
Just wanted to add that I found a setting for the phone's AOD that causes a blow glow to pulse all the way around the extreme edges of the display for a few seconds after a notification comes in.
You can turn on which apps' notifications will cause this pulse, and there's an All Apps global on/off switch as well.
It's not quite an LED notification, but it's a nice little addition.
Edit - It's under Lock Screen Notifications -> Brief Notifications -> Sidelight

AT&T and "Classy Blue," though I'd say there's nothing classy about AT&T.
Mine was the yellowish color when I just had it enabled for Messaging. After enabling it for GMail, Facebook, and Facebook Messenger, I've noticed it blue for those. It's still the yellowish color for Messaging, though.

Based on install counts, overall reviews, and last updated dates, I've narrowed it down to two apps:
Always On Edge - Edge Lighting: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.used.aoe
True Edge | Edge Lighting: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.newgen.edgelighting
I guess I'll give both a whirl and report back with my impressions.
I like LG's version well enough, but more customization options is always OK in my book.

Quoting myself.
I tried both, and even paid the one-time IAPs to unlock all options for both apps.
Frankly, I don't like either. Unlike LG's built-in Sidelight, I couldn't get either of these two edge lighting apps to play nice with either the stock AOD (which I prefer to their clunky versions), my lockscreen live wallpaper, or both. On top of that, even after taking pictures of LG's blue Sidelight colors and using a color picker to determine their hex values and inputting them into those two replacement apps, I couldn't quite duplicate the neat glow LG's got going on. No amount of futzing about netted me results nearly as pretty as LG's Sidelight. And I tried every possible feature, slider, and toggle in both apps.
That, in combination with having to settle for jankier AODs that don't work with my preferred live wallpapers completely turned me off from both apps, and I wound up uninstalling them and sticking with LG's non-customizeable Sidelight feature. Oh well. Cost me a few buck and around 1.5 hours of tinkering, and it just wound up being a waste of time and money.
If I had to recommend one, I'd say that Always on Edge - Edge Lighting is the preferred app. It appears to have more customizations and options available than True Edge | Edge Lighting. That does mean that you'd need to tinker with the app more to get the results you want, but it does afford you a larger variety of customizations. FWIW, both let you mess around with notch presets and then further tweak height, width, and radius curves in order to get the edge lighting to properly wrap around the LG V60's cut-out. You can also simply ignore the notch options and have the wrap-around edge lighting "cut off" where the notch starts and resume where it ends, if you don't feel like messing with it that much. It can be a bit finicky. Again, I found that Always On Edge handles variable notch sizes better than True Edge.
Thanks for the detailed testing.
Anyone having the same problem?
Tried everything, and nothing worked so far.
The devil is in the details. This app was always troublesome, seems to have a mind of its own Check notification status; it won't function if notifications are disabled.
I never did quit figure it 100% on my N10+. I play with it from time to time as amusement, just went through it again. What a mess. May be interacting for other 3rd party apps... I wouldn't get too concerned.
Do some Google searches fot its setup include the Android version. Older Android versions may apply if you don't get many hits on the newer ones. It's very customizable... when it works
Oddly Google play Services always seems to work

Try aodnotify from play store.
mine works fine, even with the AOD on, I don`t have any issues.
I think I found the solution! Seems like some apps just don't work with it. But I had to deselect All Apps, and individually select which apps I definitely want it for. For whatever reason, on my end, email (I have Outlook) is one of the ones that doesn't work with edge lighting on s23 ultra, & I do have pop-ups enabled.
I already tried resetting/restarting/adjusting methods (in system & the app itself) & none worked until I did it this way. It's weird. If anyone has a way or reason as to why some do & don't work, I want to hear it! I'd like for all apps to work, but this will have to do.
I'm using an app - Reolink - and it does not work for edge lightning and notifications on turned off screen - it's driving me nuts. It worked flawlessly on S21FE & S22+ (all with latest updates for April/May), but it is not working on S23U.
I have the three phones in front of me - same settings, it doesn't matter if I chose all apps or specific apps only as @sw33tla suggested - it works only on S21FE & S22+.
