Thats why im worried because it was kinda hard to take off lol has me thinking it was there for a reason =/

Someone posted a few days ago that the camera protector would create an artifact in images so it might be a good idea to take it off I think.

the film not cover the lens, it only cover the surface around the lens, so i dont think there is any different with it still there or not.

True, thats what I thought too but I think the phone has OIS which might be the reason for some pics to look blurry if the lens moves.

I hate these things, so took them both off straight away.
The one on the flash was a bit tricky to remove but got it off eventually

It messes with the auto focus and over time dirt and dust will collect around the edges causing blurry photos.

Removed all that plastic gonna really see how this phone will last. It should be tough as nails.

Wow thanks, I didn't even know the flash unit had a protective film!! :cyclops:

Thanks for the headsup
had the same issue in Note Edge

Camera and smudging

Was wondering if anyone else is having this problem as I haven't found anything about it which is quite surprising given how annoying it is.
Basically I've found that when I don't have a screen protector covering the lens of the camera, it picks up smudges very easily from the way I hold my phone and my finger touching the lens every now and then. This causes several very very noticable "ring" type things on the pictures I take where the flash is used. I'm a bit confused that HTC didn't address this issue as it more or less ruins any pictures taken in lower light conditions.
My solution so far has been to keep using a screen protector over the lens as this doesn't create the ring effect even if i purposely keep touching the lens with my finger. Does anyone know a solution to this though? I'd really like to not have a screen protector over my lenses as it probably ever so slightly degrades picture quality.
Your holding it wrong

I've had that problem with every phone i had so far. I've just made it a habit to give the glas a quick wipe with my shirt or whatever is available unless I don't care too much how the shot actually looks.

Maybe its where the lens is positioned making it more likely for me to touch it, but I've never noticed it on ny previous phones and certainly never to the extent it appears on this one. Doesn't look like there any other solution other than to give the lens a quick wipe.
How durable is the glass though? Can it scratch it wiped with a shirt, etc? Also, does anyone know exactly how much a screen protector deterioates the image?

Ah really?? What a ridiculous design flaw if they used a material that scratches easily considering how damm big that area is.
Well its obvious if you hold your phone with coins, keys and so. I tend to hold my phone in pocket with nothing else and since I bough my evo (early august 2011) I cant find any scratch even tiny. And yea - using shirt to clean lens is must-do before taking photo!
i have the same problems with it. but i also notice some scratches on the glass.

I haven't got a single scratch anywhere on the phone so far as I take very good care of it, but recently I've been wanting to use the camera without a screen protector over it. It sucks that they didn't factor in that if you make a mistake ONCE and put it in a pocket with keys or something, then it will get permanently scratched. If they insist or making a big fat area of removable glass on the back, then they should really put something like gorilla glass there. And anyway, it is still a major fail for HTC as with a screen protector on, these smudges do not create rings around the photo. It is the ****ty material they used that causes this problem.
Just to confirm though, are you saying wiping the glass with your shirt will not scratch it?
Well it would have bunch of scratches till now I use shirt to clean it everytime I take photo. Still "glass" that protects lenses isn't the same as one on front of the phone and its more likely easier to scratch - be aware of that.
Ps. I had motorbike accident just after buying phone... it was damaged a lot, and replacing "glass" parts at service is freaking expensive (especially front parts) so dont scratch it!

[Q] should i worry about tiny scratches on camera glass?

ok so ive used the sgp case on this thing with zagg on the front but i have noticed little hairline scratches on the rear camera which do not effect the photos at all but they worrie me can someone please either ease my mind or tell me the bad ... please and thank you
oh and i have tried the screen shield thing but messes with the camera ???? so no way
I've dropped my s2 before and had a whole thin crack go down the lens of the camera..remember its not the camera itself but the glass covering it....and I didn't notice any difference in quality in pictures or video and believe mine was probaly a lot worse..I like to take pictures...the whole mind set of believing your camera glass bothered the hell out of me....but I wouldn't worry about or let it bother you too much...as it didn't effect any quality....I hope this helps ease your mind alittle.
yea they arent visible unless i hold it at certain light in the certain spots etc but i see them and i obsess over them! my wife even yells at me but ya know that i havent noticed any pic quality! is anyone doing anything to protect the camera that i dont know???

I freak on that too. My old Evo and Evo 3D's Otterbox cases had protectors over the cameras. I feel like I have a 5"brick of C4 handling this thing because I'm so worried about scratching it. Luckily I think it's on Ebay where you can buy a while new back with lens cover of you do mess it up

There's others too, but this is the first I saw. Note that I see it says it's in China, I'm really not sure about it, but I saw lots more reputable ones when looking for cases

so is anyone else freaked out about scratching this camera ?? or screw it lol i dunno what else i need to do to protect ? i mean i know that they are made to be used but i babie this thing and its mint but those to me are like death only visible in certain light but still no effect to pictures that i see
I just put a piece of clear film between the camera glass and the case.
Speaking from the perspective of a photographer I can tell you that ANY aberration in the optics of a camera will have a detrimental effect on the quality of the image recorded. As light is refracted through a lens the scattering of the spectrum will cause unexpected and, often, unwanted lighting effects in the finished image. Best of all worlds... keep your lens (and protective outer casing) protected until ready for use, then remove any outer covering from the camera lens before taking photos. Then cover again until the next use.
Happy photo hunting.

[Q]anybody try to take off the factory film on Z ultra?

I'm taking off the film right now but it look like there is no film on the front....
I need little help here
Dude, WTF!
Just kidding. Yes, there's a film on the front. It's just really really glued on there. There's a whole thread with annoyed people trying to get it off. It's here in the Q&A section. You'll need a razor and a heat source (not a flamethrower) if i remember correctly.
EDIT: Here it is.

I didn't take the progress pictures of it so I'm just gonna explain.
First, you need hair dryer and razor blade. heat you ZU about 10 to 15 sec with hot air and start to take it off.
this film is very odd it is not gonna peel off, instead, it is gonna break in piece( very odd material...)
it will take about an hour.
after you've done take off the file, you will see massive amount of adhesive on the screen.
I used acetone to remove the adhesive.
I might post about how to take off the z ultra film soon since it looks bit brief (I don't have enough time right now )
Awesome job. Did you get a glass protector to replace it?

Wow. Just Wow.
I got about 1/10th of the way through. Darn it all! Can't go back now.
I started this assuming this wasn't going to take an hour. It did. Sharp, sharp razor. Lots of pushing around and post removal of the film, a little more razor. NO scratches. No divets. Wonderful.
The results (contrast the back with the smudgy and gashed - small lines) with the front and it's night and day.
I'll leave the back alone but I'm very satisfied with my even more gorgeous viewing surface. Not my favorite way to spend a mid-afternoon, but it worked.

Naked feels so good!

Because of the recall I pulled off my screen protector and after using glass screen protectors for the last 3 years all I can is is duyammm duyammm duyammm this feels good. I guess it's the olephobic coating but this feels so much better than any tempered glass protector by a huge margin.
Anyone else notice how "soft" this screen feels?
Pfft! Raw is always the best. It's the natural way.
Oh dear, this thread isn't going to end well.
Come on guy's a bit of fun is fine but keep it clean, we have children who use xda so be careful please

I also removed the Ghost Armor I had on the front and rear of my Note 7. The screen feels better than I remembered before the film was applied. The replacement phone might only get the rear film if any at all.
I've never liked the feel of screen protectors (either glass or film). I've also been lucky (or careful?) and not had a phone all scratched up either.

yes. it. is.
but its bit annoying, because it will become a fingerprint magnet...
What if Samsung only replace the batteries and you don't get a new device? You're going to have a scratched up phone!
