[Q] Battery drains over night on my LG p500

I have a LG optimus One P500 with 2.3.3 stock OS and i have high battery consumption . i check the battery status in the morning and it shows that cell standby and phone idle takes 45 - 50% after 1d and 6h .
Is this normal ? It happens every one or two days. So when i go to bed the device is charged but in the morning i have 75% of battery left.
excuse my english !
P.S. with only 3 or 4 apps installed ! that does not cosume battery .
Please help or advice!
Hmmm doesnt seem normal.I get just 1-2% battery drain overnight, but i have rooted my phone and installed franko gb kernel.U can read the guides and try installing this kernel.
P.S:I also had somehow high battery drain with stock kernal, but not as much as yours.
I had a similar situation once. I fixed it by copying all the files off the SD card, format the card (using the menu on the phone settings-storage-format) then copy the data back.
It appears a something was going wrong with the card.

thanks i will try this at first and see if the problem is solved . If not i dont know...
It drains battery on GB !(Lg Optimus One P500)
So after 13 hours my battery was at 19% on my Lg P500
I checked in Settings/applications/Battery use and guess what :
Cell stanby 31%
Phone idle 30%
voice calls 39% , and when i tapped the meter on top of the display to see the graffic i found out that the line assigned to "awake" it is uninterrupted.
And now after 1 hour after charging the battery use section : cell standby 50%
phone idle48% and display 4% ! AND all the lines in graffic are also uninterrupted.
ADVICE NEEDED !

If the Awake bar is uninterrupted, then some background apps are running continuosly in the background, even when the phone's screen is off. This should not happen unless you have turned ON data-sync and if you've applications which try to connect to internet every 10 mins like facebook, twitter. Check these. You can see what are all the applications running in the background in Settings -> Applications -> Running Services
Yeah...such applications do sync often and you have to make sure that they dont sync every 30 mins for example.
Having root and installed setcpu could makes such differences, for instance, you could make a custom Sleep profile, which undervolt your cpu frequencies when the display is off. Having this and your phone could get enough sleep while you were

Did you transfer songs or any other media recently? My stock phone had a bug wherein a new media transfer would trigger an unending SD Card scan which would suck battery like Ms. Jameson.
I solved it by deleting those files.

How did you discover that this bug was active? Would it actually keep saying Scanning SD Card or something? Because I have had noticeably higher battery drain just yesterday after transferring all my old files back into a newly partitioned card + newly flashed ROM. Just using the ROM and card before moving the files gave me a maximum of 1 day and 5 hours... Today it went to 50% in 8 hours.
I did but by usb cable. After that i erased all data.
Today after 12 hours i have 76% left . It's very strange! Do you have an explanation? I wonder.
Thanks

Oh so that worked? Great.
I was testing a friends music player app when it happened to me. I told him that his album art rendering was very buggy, so we both ended up investigating and he found that the stock rom was performing continous scans. I didn't see icons or anything.

How can you tell if your phone is continuously scanning the sd card?
We at caynogen mod 7 enjoy the sleep button about zero percent change in sleep mode ...its great .. well I was no help to you but I hope you fix your problem

Indeed it's drained battery terribly after upgrade stock rom to official version 2.3.3 (V20D in my country). I have the same problem as well. I found it 25% battery life gone after 4 hours from fully charged status before upgrading to version V20D. I did try playing or testing the GPS & data network 2G (GSM) around after done upgrade. Previously in V20G Android version 2.2.2, 1 full day drained battery for about 30% only.
I have tried GO Launcher EX app before on v2.2.2. I wonder if I should install this launcher app again. Will Launcher app drain more battery life or save power battery? Seeking any recommendation from xda experts here. Please advise.
Thank you.
drains no more
Now that you have 2.3.3 you must kill some apps . try in settings/apps/running and see what apps are active ,then you go to all apps and close apps that are running.
In my case google maps , facebook , yahoo mail and another 2 apps drained my battery . So i closed them and it's ok ! Now every time i use them i stop them after.

if you Maps installed then Uninstall it.
it starts up any time it wants and takes a lot of battery.
Hello.
First I would like to thank istoner for the this great advice. I had the same problem with my optimus one and this helped me a lot.
I just bought the phone a week ago and about 3 days ago i installed winamp app and transfered a few mp3's on the sd card. Just last evening, when i stumbled into this topic, I realised that my high battery drain problem started just after i did the fore mentioned changes to my phone.
Yesterday(data from "Battery use" in Settings) with ~14h since full charge i had like 20% battery left with moderate use during day. So after that, I followed this advice and removed the whole folder from sdcard containing the mp3's and let the phone charging over night again. I used the phone with the same moderation as yesterday. As i'm writing this i'm reading from "Battery use" a 13h 52m uptime since last full charge and my batter is at 74% percent left.
I can't tell you how glad i am i stumbled into this topic. I was just ready to uninstall all my apps and possibly get the phone in service.
I find this a somewhat important problem of the cellphone and i think more users should be informed about this. Could be a nice addition to some faq/tips and tricks topics.
I still have a couple of questions though and i hope someone will be nice enough to answer them.
What could be the cause of this problem? The android os(upgraded official 2.3.3 from stock 2.2.*), the phone's hardware or the sdcard?
What is there to do if I, let's say, go on a trip and i need some music to listen to on my phone?
Thank you.
i highly recommend to FREEZE it using titanium backup pro..
den unfreeze it if your gonig to use it
Afaik Titanium Backup is for rooted phones. Mine is not, as i said i'm using official 2.3.3. I don't know if i'm gonna root it atm just for using titanium backup.
I still hope there is another workaround that doesn't involve rooting the phone.

[Solved] Battery Drain problem with 4.x firmware

UPDATE : The battery drain is absent in the 4.xx OTA update. This is for people who used the flash tool or updated via PC Companion.
PROBLEM: As you've noted, there is a bug in the new 4.x (2.3.3 with xLOUD) update. It constantly searches for network even while connected to one. Due to this users are experiencing poor battery life that lasts no more than 10 hours on moderate use.
SOLUTION: Go to settings > Wireless and Networks > Mobile networks > Network Operators > and manually select your operator (2g/3g will be identifiable by the 2g/3g icon). Manually selecting the network reportedly kills the auto search bug ( No wonder Sony pulled the update from PC Companion). If this doesn't work for other devices ( I've only tested in R800i ), It's better to flash back the 3.xx firmware to ensure the long term capacity of your battery.
People are reporting normal battery performance after this setting has been done.
Comments are appreciated
I'll be sure to do this when verizon actually gets the update.... ; ;

I went back to 3.x but after i saw this solution i installed 4.x and yes after 2 continous hours of using my play (wifi on and downloading stuff)i only lost 25% , i even noticed a change in the battery log compared to before this fix
Thanx !

Check your battery usage.
If you have more than 35-40%% use on mobile standby, then your phone has the bug causing the battery to drain.
Contrary to what some people may believe, "Mobile standby" doesnt mean "idle", it means it is scanning for signal.
Take sim out, take battery out, for a few minutes, reboot, then use the solution the OP describes to permanently turn of the bug.

This is a most bizzare problem you have.
SetCPU can overclock (drain battery even more) or underclock (save battery) the cpu.
Ideally you want it underclocked when the screen has dimmed off, and overclocked when you are demanding graphical intensity. (games etc).
I personally think you have the scanning for radio bug still. Are you sure you have turned OFF automatic network?

Yes, It's already set to manual..
I have a quick question.
I seem to be having the battery drain bug on my R800i (UK) however, I am a bit worried about setting it to manual.
I am with Orange here in the UK, and with Orange u can also use T-Mobile transmitters, where i live and work, i switch between Orange and T-Mobile quite often, if I was to set my phone to manual, and to Orange 3G, when i lost Orange 3G signal, what would happen? Would it still automaticall change to the T-Mobile signal, or would i be left without any signal at all??
I am rooted, and I am already using SetCPU, with also the lowest setting when on stand-by, so the only other reason for my battery drain is the bug.
Thanx in advance, and sorry that it turned out to be not such a quick question, lol.

smdcntl0, smdcntl1 battery drain on stand by

Hi i am recently encountering a massive battery drain when phone is on idle. Screen off, wifi and everything off even syncs. Brightness only 15%. Battery is draining average of 10% per 2 hours on standby. I uninstalled all apps prior to this prob but still nothings changed. It wasnt like this before. I downloaded betterbattery and i have 3 things on top list under kernel wakelock. The smdcntl0, smdcntl1 and radio interface. But i have no idea what they are..
By any chance i have a virus that only a repair would fix?
Also, i heard that there is a new firmware for xperia s. If i downloaded the firmware in the future will that reset and fix my phone's problem? Cause i dont want to back up 2 g worth of mp3 for a single repair. Perhaps there are simpler solutions.. Any answer would be appreciated.. Thanks..
Ps. Im using stock ics no root no nothing and i dont plan on rooting.
same problem for me on stock 2.45 and cm 9.1
It's the modem.

[Q] Sudden high battery drain

I'm looking for help trouble shooting why my Atrix is suddenly sucking the battery dead over the period of a few hours. I've had my atrix for almost 2 years now and always had excellent battery life. After some app updates a couple weeks ago my phone started sucking the battery empty in just a few hours. I bought a new OEM battery thinking my battery had just expired, but this made no difference. I've uninstalled the apps and killed the processes for apps that I thought might be to blame, but still the problem remains. The "Battery usage" app shows that "Phone idle" uses the vast majority of the power. Is there some way determine which process is actually using the power, or a way to tell if maybe the processors are not being put to sleep when they should?
Download CPU spy from the play Store and check if the processor is entering deep sleep. it might as well be that the signal is low and the antenna, constantly searching for signal is consuming that battery power. Is the 3g ( and data) enabled?

Thank you very much! I installed CPU Spy Plus. In 2 hours 45 minutes my battery went from 100% to 50%. CPU Spy shows 85.9% of the time is in "Deep Sleep", and the rest of the time is sprinkled between 216MHz and 1000MHz. The back of the phone is slightly warm. So it looks like the CPU's are going to sleep properly, I wonder what else it could be?

Then it's probably the cell standby, read this guide here!
Or, there is some Background service of an app which is running but not using CPU... could be Maps, try turning off gps.

Romanoff lhption
According to my phone, only 12% went to "cell standby", 17% to "display" and 63% to "phone idle". My wifi is always disabled, and I always have 3g and data enabled. I just unchecked the options to use WiFi and GPS for location and I'll see if that makes a difference. If not then I will turn off data and see if that makes a difference.
I'm on the right track! Turning off location services did not make any difference, but disabling data entirely seemed to put the battery drain back to normal, AND the "deep sleep" percentage shown in CPU Spy went well up into the 90%+ range. So now I know the battery drain is caused by some app keeping the CPU from sleeping, and possibly using the data connection a lot. FF though some trial and error, and I am now suspecting the Google Play process. With data and background data enabled, if I kill the Google Play process and add it to the auto-end list, battery drain seems to possibly be back to normal. And the CPU is still spending 90%+ in "Deep Sleep". With Google Play running, the CPU is much more active. After another day or two I'll know for sure if Google Play is the problem. Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions so far!
PS-> I see that Google Play Store will remove itself from the auto-end list..
OK now I need help. The problem is definitely google play. When I kill the process my battery usage goes back to normal, however the process keeps coming back to life on its own. Adding it to the auto kill list does nothing, and I was unable to uninstall it. Is there some way to roll back google play store to a previous version, or prevent it from starting itself?
What version of the Play app are you using? Version 4.1.10 came out a few days ago, they say among other things it fixes high battery drain on some devices/systems.
From what I've seen, Play is a kinda "special" app. There is no way to freeze it or kill it permanently. Not sure why.

You're luckier than me. Uninstalling the play store service and rolling the play store back to the old "market" helped a little, but definitely didn't resolve the issue. After that change, my battery drain was about 10%/hr. Every time I think I've resolved it, it quickly reverts back to high battery drain. If I completely disable all data then my battery life goes back to normal. My buddy at work is now having the same problem with his Atrix. I'm wondering if AT&T decided that it's time for us to upgrade our phones and pushed down some changes to make these older phones less desirable to work with, by killing the batteries faster.

not so lucky i must say , got the problem back after a couple of hours. im changing roms/kernels in order to find the best combination. Actually managed to get like a 1% /hour battery drain, with ALL things turned off, il keep testing for like a day or two.
i'm having the same kind of issues as well my atrix...
also my battery meter frequently reads wrong i've tried both the atrix battery fix app which i had setup to automatically run the fix when ever it reached full voltage and the bat meter wasn't reading full i've also tried the some other .zip program i found on XDA with minimal success
i'll be paying attention to this thread to see what comes up
Edit...
Did a complete wipe of my phone and installed neutrino 2.9 EE vice GT or GT+ that I have been running previously
discovered Facebook and juice defender ultimate have permissions to modify battery statistics, so I disabled those permissions (along with multiple others from different apps) and turned juice defender off to see if battery consumption changes
As well I uninstalled Google services via titanium backup, report back in as couple days see if anything changes
Reporting, it seems like the phone cant get in deep sleep mode, tried wipes, new roms and kernels and getting the same problem. Maybe its a hardware related issue
I'm having a similar issue. I've removed play services, and changed radios and kernel. Will check to see if this helps.

I have the same problem. I've read all thread and checked Play Service, yes it looks as if it's his fault.
Tried to delete it with "Root app remove" and titanium backup. No result it's coming back!
Really need help. This is a great phone with unique features (docking station). But before it worked 3 days on a single charge, and now 24 hours!
Google bought Motorola why is it so hard to fix this issue and why it's still working under Android 2.3.6... Give us ICS!
P.s.: System version 4.5.141.MB860.ATT.en.US, Android 2.3.6, Baseband N_01.77.37P
Had Google Play 4.1.6. Today changed on 4.1.10 maybe it'll help.

[Q] Performance Lacking After Root

I've been stock rooted for several weeks now & have noticed that the phone isn't quite as fast as it was stock. It's not as responsive at times & even worse I've noticed the battery life has decreased. Before I rooted I could easily get a solid 12 hours & now I get 8 to 10. Last night I went to sleep & my phone was at 72% & when I woke up today it was at 12 which is horrible standby time.
This is the 3rd HTC I've rooted & I've never had an issue like this before. I haven't had a chance to go S-Off yet. Any idea on what it could be? Any suggestions on what I could do to improve the performance back to what it was?
Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

I'm not sure from what you have said what the cause is. I just know that I have used all of the different roms for this phone (I'm on Verizon) and never had any battery drain like that. Maybe a factory reset and watch what 3rd party apps you re-install? One (or more) may be causing the drain.
