Hi Guys,
I have an HTC One Max, and after a fresh reformat, I am unable to get Windows 8.1 to recognize the device. When I plug the phone into the computer, it charges fine. However, the phone doesn't show up in File Explorer, so I cannot add files or music as I would like. Is there a setting I have to change? Or is it something else?
Thanks to all who reply,
Mike

Hi Guys
I updated my phone using XWKK2 found on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
The issue now is that, the phone does not show up in Windows Explorer any more.
If I enable USB mass storage, the phone will come up.
It is also not picked up by Kies any more.
USB debugging is turned off. Issue is on multiple computers
I have tried other versions but all have the issue.
Does any one have any ideas?
so anyone got any ideas?
What version of windows are you using.
issues does not show up on windows xp or windows 7 but does show up on windows vista.
Using Windows 7.
Found out the issue
Was getting constant media scans and the message "mtp-initilisation"
Found out the issue was due to a folder causing trouble and made the media scan not complete.
It was with a program called picspeed where it created endless folders in folders. managed to remove the folders and everything working 100% again
hi. the problem im having is that i cant connect my phone to transfer files such as music and photos. i can use apps like airdroid and kies but want to discover the problem and have an easier way off organizing my files from computer to phone.
i recently flashed cm-9-20121209-NIGHTLY-galaxys2.zip then installed gapps-ics-201204929-signed.zip from internal storage.
thats the only two things i have done.
a window used to pop up when i plugged in the usb and it would also appear on 'MyComputer' folder. but neither happen now. I still get the connected sound when i connect the phone. I have tried different usb slots on my computer and have tried turning my phone off and on and rebooting it.
do i need a special driver for the cyanogenmod rom? thats the only thing i can think of!
anyone have any suggestions?
thanks
I installed Windows XP 64 on my work computer and I can't connect properly with the data cable anymore. The computer recognizes the phone but it either thinks it's a camera or a media device, and the stupid windows default software that comes up for cameras or media devices doesn't let me just copy files from the computer to the phone's SD card like explorer. When I had XP 32 bit installed the data cable worked fine. How do I get the computer to recognize the phone as a generic device again or a gadget serial or whatever?
Try going to Samsung's website and downloading the drivers.

yes I know about that.
The explorer type interface came up correctly for a Vibrant last night. I didn't think that you had to install a separate driver for every different phone. Also works with Odin.
Device manager lists a samsung android adb interface as installed correctly.
The computer makes a device connect beep when I connect the i717.
But for whatever reason, when I connect the i717, I get a choice between accessing it as a camera or a media device in windows and either gets something that limits me to the DCIM folder or windows media player and neither one lets me put roms on the card. this looks like some kind of windows thing.
This question has been asked numerous times, but I found no resolution.
I have windows vista 64 bit, Galaxy s4 (SCH1545) running android 4.4.2. I have developer options enabled, and USB debugging is allowed. Phone is currently connected to the USB port as a media device, and in the windows explorer, it shows up as portable media player. I also have SD card installed in the phone where I keep my media files.
I just got my data cable yesterday, so I plugged my S4 into one of the ports in my USB splitter (4 ports). And all hell broke loose. My device wasn't recognized, the drivers weren't installing (cdc serial, samsung_android, the usual suspects).
Then I installed the samsung kies, it shows my device, but the drivers weren't installed still.
Then my windows started updates which failed to install the drivers over 10 times, I think. Then it dawned on me, the errors the updates were showing dealt with the device not being plugged in, and that I was going into the computer through a USB splitter.
So I shuffled my external drives around and freed one of the 2 USB ports on my computer. And I directly connected S4 into the USB, and repeated the windows driver updates, and it recognized the device. I even moved an mp4 file to the phone as a test and it worked fine.
But moving the same MP4 file back from the phone to a folder in windows, crashes the windows explorer. Every time.
Also if I try to launch the MP4 or AVI file that I moved into the SD card, from the folder in the phone, and it also crashes the windows explorer. Every time.
So I tried to launch any kind of media file (MP3 this time) on the phone using the windows, and it crashes the windows explorer every time.
So far the only way to get the file off my phone is to take the SD card out and put it into the windows. This works fine, but it's a hassle which is why I bought a data cable.
tl;dr
If I launch any media files in the phone using windows explorer, windows explorer crashes and restarts. If I try to copy the file from the phone to windows, explorer crashes and restarts, however, I can copy a file from the windows to the phone without explorer crashing.
What is a solution to this?
Maybe all you smart developers can come up with some hack or app or something.
Hello,
I installed yesterday a custom rom with 2.3.4 for an Xperia Play device and I've noticed that the phone is properly recognized, all drivers are fine, I can go into fastboot mode, bootloader unlocked, etc... and I can see the microSD card from the phone when this is plugged to the computer via USB.
The problem is that I copy files from the computer to the phone, windows takes its time and at the end says that it's all good, you can see the files in the phone, however when you then unplug the phone and go to that location, none of the new files are there?! :S
More weird is that then you plug the phone back to windows and the files appear there again?
Any idea what could be going on? and how I could copy files from windows to this android in this case?
Cheers!!
Maybe just links
Maybe you just linked to the files on your Computer. Move/Rename them on your Computer and see if you can still open them on your phone. If no you just created a link to the data stored on your computers hard drive. If yes I also can't tell you what's going on
Thanks, no the files were the complete files, no links.
I've been looking into this further, and reflash the mobile with a total different rom and still happening there (although with this new rom doesn't happen 100% of the times like with the other). What I've just now noticed is that the mobile doesn't recognize those files, but... if I REBOOT it, then they appear once it starts up?! so weird.... :S
