OK To Take Software Update??? - SM-G925F 64GB Gold... - Galaxy S6 Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've got LRX22G.G925FXXU1AOC1 right now, and it has an update available. Will I lose the ability to root if I take the update?
Thanks,
Y2J

I'm rootet so nope

Its just software improvements not firmware change/update so no you should not lose ability to root or lose root

Rooting Galaxy S III

Hello guys
I just wanted to ask: does rooting my device affect software update by any means?
I mean, for example, will the OTA service be lost? And if not, will the coming update make my device lose its root?
Thank you.
You will Still be able to update through OTA, kies, Odin but when you update you will loose root and have to reroot.

If you root and then change your ROM to a customer one, then you will loose the Samsung OTA Update Support.
Once more .
Root may see OTA update fail to install.

Downloaded (via Wi-Fi) and installed 10.1.C.0.370 firmware update. Smooth. Only took a few minutes (< 10). Experienced no problems. Retained root access :good:. I searched Sony's sites for a description of what changes or fixes 10.1.C.0.370 provides but failed to find one.
could anybody share the .ftf of that firmware? as my bootloader is unlocked, i can´t update to it via OTA and PC companion/SEUS.
Hi. I just updated to this latest firmware and it has fixed the over sensitive touch screen issue! Only thing is now my sgp312 shows up as sgp311 in about device. But it does not affect the actual storage. I still have 32 gb.
Also unlocked the bootloader so the OTA update work work. You can use the official flash tool called Emma from Sony mobile. Its designed to update unlocked bootloader devices. I live in Hong Kong and Emma works, dated my device to 10.1.c.0.370 which I think is a UK Rom. Get Emma herehttp://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com

Works fine with EMMA.
Updated my SGP312 with root and root remained.
Not sure if SuperSu Pro option to keep root affected anything.
I actually think .370 is much smoother than .344
On .344 xda hd lagged...now no lag at All.
Launcher also smoother.
But i still will switch to CM10.1 as soon as it's available for the WiFi Version.
Will try if doomlords stock Kernel with cwm will Boot with. 370 tomorrow.
Especially the Auto rotate/orientation delay is much better

Android 4.1.1 release 2

Hey guys I just received a notification about this update and I'm wondering if I can update if I'm rooted?
Would my root stay?
And can you root release 2?
Also what's the update about and is it worth updating?
A lot of questions I know..... but I would like to know because I've managed to brick my device once before.

It looks like OTA rootkeeper only works if the update does not overwrite or format the partitions. Does anyone know if 4.1.1 (release 2) overwrites or formats the partitions? Let us know if you know or if you have preserved root with OTA rootkeeper.
I want to update for the clock fix, but I am not willing to lose root.

I have seen a couple of reports of people losing root after this update. It seems like the rooting methods have been blocked on this release. So I urge everyone, if you want root DO NOT UPDATE at this time. It does not look like 4.1.1 release 2 is currently rootable, I think we will need a new root method for this firmware release.
UPDATE: 2 people have confirmed release 2 is rootable with moto chopper, another is testing AIO. So it seems like I was wrong and it is OK to update to 4.1.1 release 2. You will need to reroot after the update, but it should be fairly straight forward.
UPDATE 2: I have just updated and rerooted with AIO.

I will research but could someone tell the benefits of rooting.

Just use motochopper, connect your xperia tablet s after updating the release 2 firmware and you should get the root back in 2 mins.

Rooting and flashing rom - receiving manufacture updates?

I'm thinking of rooting and flashing a new rom. Can I get future updates after going back to stock (from backup) ? Thanks for your help
Sent from my GT-I9105P using Tapatalk 2
Yes if there is no root, custom kernel and nothing AT ALL is modified.

Even if the stock rom is rooted you can still get OTA updates but you'll lose root after the update and have to redo it.

Root and stuff

Hi guys,
I'm an xperia noob here. I came from a Samsung galaxy s3 and an LG G2 and I'm not familiar with modding the xperia phones. I would really appreciate if someone could redirect me to the latest root method. If I were to root, do I need to unlock my bootloader? What would I lose if I root? What would I lose if I unlock my bootloader? How do I return back to stock if I need to? I would really be grateful for the replies from you guys!

I would also like to know because I am considering the z2 now with black Friday sales. Is it easy to root and stay on stock rom? Because I only want root

Yes it's easy to root with towelroot as I remember, and stock rom is best in my opinion, I never used custom rom on xperia. Only once, but that was stock based custom rom

Not quite, but it's still pretty easy. If you're on the 4.4.4 .167 firmware you need to check out this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z2/general/4-4-4-creating-rooted-update-package-t2933155
sorry my mistake, didnt know for that new firmware. But its still easy to do it, it requres only 10min of your time
Thanks for the newest root method, but what would I lose if I root or unlock bootloader?
Sent from my D6503 using XDA Free mobile app
If you only root, you don't loose anything. And with unlocked Bl you will loose warranty if something is wrong with the phone (camera function should be intact)

Sorry to muddy the water but, if all you have done is rooted, many users have upgraded ota from 4.4.2 to 4.4.4 and even retained root.

Well yes, but posibility is 100000000:1 to happen like this. That is pure luck.

Either its possible or not, when a number of people on xda have done it I'd say its possible.
So less rephrase my post for clarity, in general OTA Upgrades are not possible on rooted devices, but a number of users have reported successfully performing an OTA upgrades to 4.4.4 on rooted devices without losing root.
