I've Googled the hell out of this, tried everything that was posted and it didn't work....
My 3 tablets (Xperia Z2, Note 12.2, LG G Pad 8.3) currently all have a 64GB MicroSDX card, but the tablet I have in my bag with me at all times is the Xperia Z2 runing 4.4.4 and it’s rooted. Here's my issue....my Camera has a 64GB SD Card and the Camera has both WiFi and NFC for easy transfer, but when I'm out and I don't want to drain the Camera battery, I want to take the card out and use my OTG-Cable which has a Card Reader built in and plug it into my Tablet USB Port. The SD card is formatted EXFAT, and my tablet will NOT mount it. So, I formatted the card using a 3rd party Partition Manager to Fat32 (yes, you can format a 64GB card to Fat32), yet my tablets (I tried it on all 3 tablets in my house, one running Android 4.4.4, one running 4.4.4, and one running 4.4.2) will still not recognize it. HOWEVER, my phone running 4.4.4 DOES recognize the card when it's attached via the OTG cable. What am I missing here? Ultimately, I'd like to stay with the EXFAT format because it removes the 4GB File Size limitation (especially if I shoot HD Video). Any ideas? Wireless Transfer from Camera to tablet sucks through battery life, I’m trying to avoid that, and I'm not always at home where I can simply plug the card into my Laptop Card Reader. This is especially important since I’m visiting my dad in Europe this summer and don’t want to lug my laptop with me.

Try some of the different free 3rd party apps that let you mount usb otg devices from the market. I had this issue with a tablet a couple of years ago and the forth one I tried worked when nothing else did. Sorry I can't remember which app, but different devices will work with different apps anyway.

Can't. The card is a SD card, not a Micro SD. I formatted it in my Computer into EXFat and also in my Camera. Both format it to EXFat, unless I use the third-party partitioning tool to format it into Fat32.

I tried 4 different apps, none worked.
Oops, overlooked that you are using an SD Card.
There is nothing that will work universally, to my knowledge.
Very frustrating, I know. But all those wonderful promises of technology are just that: promises, not guarantees.
I think I may have to use the 64GB card that's in my tablet and use it with an adapter in my Camera, and then just put the card into the Tablet to off-load some pictures. Seems like the path of least resistance, and once they're on the tablet and I've edited them, I can upload them to my G+ account, wipe the card and start all over. It's a hassle but it seems like the best way. Short of buying a Surface Pro at least, or taking my Laptop with me-which is not an option.
I present to you the perfect solution. Bow down before me! Or send me money!

Updated to 4.1.1 OTA a few weeks ago and have had "some" USB issues ever since. Have had this tablet since May of last year and have been able to read/write to thumb drives and camera cards without issue UNTIL the JB update from 4.0.4. Now, my thumb drives will not mount on the Tab and it took me 4 "factory resets" before it would see and mount an SDHC card. Had no problems mounting and using a wireless mouse.
I have 3 different thumb drives, multiple SDHC cards and 2 different USB to 30 pin adapters. All thumb drives and cards were recognized and working until the JB update. Samsung has no answer for this. Am currently "working around" by using multiple MicroSD cards in the slot (works properly) but it has become a bit of a pain swapping them in and out to do photo backups and secondary backups, plus I don't like having to deal with all the tiny cards and adapters in my cameras and secondary backups.
Anyone have any thoughts on this? Over on another forum someone else had this issue and posted a link to take it back to 4.0.4. Said he solved his problems with that but I just haven't gotten up the nerve to try that just yet, just not into all the rooting and so forth.
I also have an issues with my USB om PC win 8 64 bit. I installed Kies bit stil my PC can''t connected with my Tablet.
For those that aren't aware, I just wanted to turn you on to Samsung's new Pro series line of cards. These are different than their old Pro line of cards. I bought one of the 64GB cards and it's been fantastic. Only the 64GB model of their new Pro line uses NAND technology. The 16GB and 32GB models in the new Pro series does NOT used NAND technology.

It's much better. Also, I'm assuming you mean transfer files from a PC to your card and vice versa? If so, to further enhance speed, be sure you're using USB 3.0 via a USB 3.0 card reader plugged into your PC's USB 3.0 port. If you don't have a USB 3.0 port on your PC, you'll still get slower USB 2.0 transfer speeds but more stable transfer speeds with this NAND-technology card.

The Tab Pro 10.1.
OK that model doesn’t have USB 3.0 so yes, you'd need to use a USB 3.0 card reader plugged into a USB 3.0 port on your PC.

Oh wow, now that's something I hadn't spotted. Only the 12" Tab Pro has USB 3. That's actually bizarre. But I don't really mind. I don't transfer 60 gigs to my tablet every day...

I think the Note Pro 12.2 has USB 3.0 too. I just didn't have use for the S-pen. Ha!

I've just realised I can't rename files and folders on the card, whether the tablet is connected to the PC or via ES File Explorer. Is this normal or a problem with the card?
Not normal unless the card is locked in read only mode somehow. If you upgraded at some point to Android 4.4+, the software also removed SD card write access and you'll need to install a workaround for it. The way I fixed mine was to install an app from the Play Store called FolderMount [ROOT]. Install, reboot, check if you can rename files, then uninstall. If your device isn't rooted, there are other options. Just Google "android KitKat SD fix".

Oh it's not in read only mode. I can copy files to the card without a problem. I can create new folders too. I just can't rename anything, it's odd. As for the upgrade, the Tab Pro 10.1 came with Android 4.4... And this card has never been in another device.

Okay, just remembered my Android phone (HTC*Desire HD) has a microSD card. So I swapped them. No problems renaming files of the phone with the 64 gig card. Same problem on the tablet with the phone's card, from ES File Explorer I get "task failed". From the PC renaming hangs Windows Explorer. However, from the computer, I can't even browse folders on the card. Double-clicking on any folder causes Windows Explorer to hang.
I swapped the cards back to their proper places. The 64 gig card I can browse no problem from the PC. I can delete files and folders and transfer new ones. I just can't rename anything. It's very odd. But the extra problems with the 8 gig card from the phone make me worry it might be a hardware issue. My tablet isn't rooted or anything. It's only had the official updates.

does anyone know which file systems are supported by the OTG feature? Am able to read/write just fine on a FAT32 USB stick, but an external HDD that is allegedly formatted with NTFS isn't recognized. I thought I read somehwere that NTFS is supported on most newer devices... I'd assume the Z3TC qualifies as "newer"
i at least can confirm that exfat is working. so large files may be stored on it. ext3 is not. haven't tried anything else yet. i never use ntfs for anything. this fs is too bad.

no. it's at the bottom end of modern filesystems if not the worst. ntfs is broken by so many ways... and its performance sucks too.
microsoft pumped also full with features that actually never were really used but caused various problems and security isses so they had to disable them, while actually they only removed the tools to access them (well, maybe meanwhile they removed some of them). one of the most stupid, broken and security-wise dangerous "features" were the filechannels, which actually ended in the space of unneeded bull****.
but ntfs disaster is nothing uncommon, it's like everything MS produced (where most top products actually were bought from others and "enhanced" by microsoft).

It is very strange; the same hard disk worked fine on my Nexus 7 with StickMount. Not sure if the software that comes with the Z3 is the problem - but of course the Z3TC is not rooted (yet), so StickMount is not currently an option.
Sony Xperia Z3 USB OTG
I can confirm that with the Nexus Media Importer app, the Sony Xperia Z3 (the smartphone) can read & write to NTFS file systems. I have a USB OTG "Y" cable (a female micro USB port for extra power). Without the paid app though, the Z3 can only read exFAT and FAT32 file systems, stating the NTFS as an "unsupported file system". As an added bonus, the smartphone is able to charge itself if you charge it by the magnetic port! I have a Deff magnectic adapter. Another device that can power an external USB OTG device while charging itself is my Google Nexus 5 with a special USB OTG "Y" adapter.

Hi anyone of here.what's the size of your hard drive and the brand? I have a seagate 500gb and would like to upgrade to 2tbm seagate backup plus and i wonder if this would work without external power suppor. My 500gb seagate works fine without any external support. Also my Z3 phone can load the 500gb hard drive without issues. I just want to know before ordering the hard drive. I would be using this to watch movies while traveling so a hard drive should be able to load with no need for external support,

It solely depends on the power consumption of the HDD which is not (necessarily) dependent on it's size. Most important is the current your drive needs to spin up when the device is turned on. You probably won't find the current requirement on the HDD itself - only the current needed when running. Spin up power may be higher and if it's too high, your USB-SATA will probably not "light up" at all or constantly restart.
Short: Try to find Datasheets for your old and new HDD and compare spin up current if available or continue to hope for someone having tried the same HDD.

I have been using OTG to transfer files from and to my galaxy devices and it is working very well
But the sad news is that our note pro cannot give enough power to portable HDD ( the ones i used were 1Tb and 2tb, on my note 3 and my note edge they work but not on the note pro)
You can connect flash memories and anything that consumes low voltage like a mouse or a keyboard or a flash memory

I'm not looking to connect hdd's.
I already have planned what I'm doing.
First of all I'm gonna find some way to strap it to the back of the tablet case, and then, I got 1 for now, ultra fit usb flash drive, which will go in one of the usb ports.
I got a memory stick pro duo adapter which I can slot two of my micro sd cards into, and then stick it in the otg.
And then one micro sd card in an sd card adapter to put in the sd card slot. :3
This thing makes no sense. It's great yeah, but it's weird, it can have three flash drives or usb devices running at once, but when it comes to cards of any kind, you can only use one at a time, even if one is in a usb adapter, it still won't allow two.
It makes no sense, usb all you want, but cards only one. Why?

Maybe the adapter requires extra power that the note pro cannot give
Can you send a picture of what you have and how you connected them to the note pro?

Here are several methods I use; a 128Gb Sandisk USB 3 thumb drive [http://a.co/9OVzdu5 ] and a USB 3 OTA adapter [http://a.co/jfMs2Yq ] along with the 128gb micro card in the device. If you need terabytes, get a wireless battery powered portable hard drive [http://a.co/fzM9ZPi], it works on mine. I also had a spare 240gb mSATA card from when I replaced my laptop drive. I bought a case for it and use that - the tablet has enough power to use it. Finally, I have connected a self-powered 2 Tb desktop drive with good results via the OTG cable. It just takes a while when opening your file explorer. Last, but not least, you can connect to your NAS via WiFi [ I use QNAP, and have accessed it from everywhere that I've visited that had good inet speeds via the QNAP apps]

QNAP is a hardware vendor for Network Attached Storage units - look on Amazon or NewEgg. I got the empty 2 bay one and loaded some spare drives I had laying around so I have 2 Tbytes mirrored now. Their apps allow remote access for files, music and movies to their devices.

I use the designed-in SD card reader that is standard with several models of HP Pavilion notebook (the SanDisk microSD card-carrier will also work with the same Pavilion notebook models - the carrier is bundled with Sandisk microSD media typically of 32GTB and larger) I use the same-size microSD cards (SanDisk 32GB) in everything that takes microSD - the two notebooks, my Lenovo tablet, and my newest acquisition - a Samsung Galaxy S7; my GNex does not take microSD cards at all).

No, why would you ask that?
I want a way to read/write microSD cards using the S7 phone. As in, copy files to/from microSD cards. For situations like travel and wanting to upload a file that's on a microSD from a camera, one that may not have a means to connect via USB directly to a device. Seemed like a pretty simple question that wouldn't have anything to do with an "access point".

There is a microSD reader built into the phone - it is all-internal (the nano-SIM carrier is also a microSD carrier; the microSD mounts underneath the nano-SIM). There is an accessory that you can purchase that opens the nano-SIM/microSD carrier - or you can bend a staple to open the drawer.

There is indeed a card reader in the phone. One that will very likely already be occupied by a memory card. One that would be used during the process of transferring media files to/from standalone microSD cards.
That and constant use of the internal microSD slot is probably a bad plan. I'm not thinking they expect it to be used for swapping cards all the time. Seems a lot smarter to use one of the external ones I've already mentioned above. So, yeah, there's that...

That is true of ANY device that takes microSD - it's not a unique dilemma. (In addition to my tablet, S7, and two of my three notebooks - both of which are HP Pavilions.) That has to do with the microSD format itself - it's NOT designed to be a "plug-repeatedly" format - the larger 64GB and above sizes that the S5 and later phones and tablets can swallow only make that more and more obvious. That is why I use the cloud - not microSD - to share common files among my hardware - and with cloud services such as Microsoft OneDrive being both OS-neutral and rather capacious - and especially with devices that don't support microSD at all - such as my GNex - they aren't left out. That is the rather amusing aspect about OneDrive - as long as I have Internet access and a compatible OS (which is every OS except a Linux distribution, a UNIX, or a BSD) I can get to my shared files anywhere - on the planet. (Even on a plane with wi-fi-based Internet access - such as Southwest - and I'm not kidding; I have, in fact, done so.) MicroSD is for files too LARGE for the cloud - or that will stored ONLY on a specific device - that is especially true of the 64GB and larger microSD cards, as they are only compatible with specific devices; while I can use such a microSD with the S7, it's size-incompatible with anything else. Otherwise, I use the cloud - and OneDrive in particular - it's compatible with all my hardware.

I've traveled to many places where data services are either unavailable at all, or considerably more expensive than here in the US. Having an external microSD (or any other media card format) reader opens up another avenue for managing media.
As for online services, look no further than Photobucket's recent extortion fiasco to understand why depending on such service is not necessarily as glorious as you might expect.
Again, I asked about readers that'd work in the USB socket of the S7. And got a whole lot of entirely unrelated information instead of on-point replies.
