CWM Recovery MediaPad 10 Link+ (S10-231u) - Huawei MediaPad, T-Mobile SpringBoard

Ported CWM Recovery's for MediaPad 10 Link+ (S10-231u)
Hey guys!
after many hours of working and testing i managed to get some CWM Recoverys on a Mediapad 10 Link+.
The CWM Recoverys are based on Pyramid CWM or Carlivs Recoverys and the basic functions that I've tested are working.
Thx to carliv for his tools and recoveries, XDA and HWMOD's thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1774354) because they gave me the infos on porting a CWM.
What i did was using the newest Pyramid CWM or Carliv Recovery with a 1280x800 resolution i was able to find and replace it with my own modified recovery.fstab, init.rc, kernel and default.prop from my Mediapad.
Hope to see a working ROM in the future! :good:
HowTo:
1. Root the device and unlock the Bootloader via ADB
2. Go into Fastboot mode by holding POWER + Volume Down (Tablet must be turned off and the USB Cable connected to your PC)
3. Flash a recovery.img via "Fastboot flash recovery recovery.img"
4. Turn the Device Off
5. Boot into Recovery by holding POWER + Volume Up + Volume Down until the Screen turns on. Then release the POWER Button and only hold Volume Up + Volume Down until you're in CWM Recovery
Ported Recovery's
- Cannibal OpenTouch Recovery 2.1.3 (stable, all features seem to work)
- CWM Recovery 5.8.0.9, 6.0.0.3, 6.0.1.2
- Carliv Touch Recovery 2.7
Known Bugs:
- USB Mounting doesn't work (older CWM versions)
- Unmounting /system (CWM, Carliv Touch Recovery) which is main problem for backup, wiping, restore
Download Folder:
https://www.mediafire.com/folder/0msxwj6501wva/Huawei_Mediapad_10_Link+_Recoverys
Avoid formatting or wiping partitions at the moment because this is not stable and still a work in progress!

Nice work!

Thanks!
I uploaded it to the Mediafire Folder. (recovery-original.img)

UPDATE:
Managed to get the Cannibal Open Touch fully working with all features!
I was able to backup my original system, wipe all datas and restore without any problems.
USB Mounting and ADB in Recovery work aswell, i wasn't able to find something that doesn't work.
I will upload the new Cannibal Open Touch to the Mediafire Folder within the next minutes.
Now its time to figure out how Custom Roms work on the tablet.

Hello! I do want to try this but I can't find a rooting method that will work with latest ota update. Could you please point me in the right direction. Thanks for all the work you have done, I just got this tablet a month ago or so.

Hey,
I have the s10-231w and flashed the every single recovery of these but my recovery is now broken. The device itself is still working, same with fastboot but the recovery alone is bricked. Apparently this guide is not working for s10-231w.
My bootloader is unlocked, device is rooted and I get successful message when flashing recovery in fastboot: Attachment.
Could someone somehow upload their recovery of the s10-231w?, I've downloaded the stock rom few times but its applied from the device itself (by putting the dload file in root folder and go to settings-Update-Local and try to update from there. However, the device tries to enter recovery after that which is a stuck screen).
Best Regards

Hi,
thanks for your hard work!
I flashed Cannibal OpenTouch Recovery 2.1.3 and can boot into custom recovery.
However, I accidentally wiped the OS without making a backup before.
I tried to flash the firmware found here h**p://consumer.huawei.c*m/en/support/downloads/detail/index.htm?id=19702, but the custom recovery log says:
Code:
-- Installing: /sdcard/S10-231u_V100R001C232B001_Client_Software_General_android_4.2_EMUI_1.6_05012FCU.zip
Finding update package...
I:Update location: /sdcard/S10-231u_V100R001C232B001_Client_Software_General_android_4.2_EMUI_1.6_05012FCU.zip
Opening update package...
Installing update...
Installation aborted.
I extracted the zip-file and it seems to be an update.
So can anyone provide the stock rom please?
BTW: I tried to restore the original recovery by flashing recovery-original.img which results into a boot loop with mediapad logo. So I reflashed Cannibal OpenTouch Recovery 2.1.3.
Best regards,
anderklatsche

[Q] Unable to install recovery

First the facts:
I have a Transformer Prime TF201
-l have Cyanogen mod 10-20140104 installed
-I used to have CWM recovery installed (Cant remember witch version)
-I have followed this guide: http://androidroot.mobi/t3_nvflash/ to get nvFlash and AndroidRoot.mobi bootloader (v9.4.2.28r01)
After this i wanted to install TWRP as i had problems taking rom backups with cwm.
I followed this guide http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/93 and downloaded and installed "openrecovery-twrp-2.3.3.0-tf201-JB.img" using fastboot
The ".img" version of twrp seems to be for those who have AndroidRoot.mobi bootloader
after this i was unable to restart from fastboot, so i just did a manual restart with the power button
Now i expected the progress bar to appear, but android just started to boot.
After the boot i tried to boot to recovery using the power menu, just booted back to android again.
Then i tried getting inn to recovery by holding power and vol down, same thing then also. just booted in to android.
I have also tried to install cwm (recovery-clockwork-5.8.3.4-tf201.img) using fastboot with the same result.. no progress bar appears after reboot.
This is the result when installing CWM in fastboot:
C:\android-sdk\platform-tools>fastboot -i 0x0b05 flash recovery cwm.img
sending 'recovery' (5408 KB)...
OKAY [ 2.594s]
writing 'recovery'...
OKAY [ 2.132s]
finished. total time: 4.734s
C:\android-sdk\platform-tools>fastboot reboot
rebooting...
finished. total time: 0.553s
(The device is not restarting, i have to do this manualy)
I have also tried installing CWM in android terminal using "dd if=/sdcard/cwm.blob of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p4"
This is the result:
[email protected]:/ $ su
[email protected]:/ # dd if=/storage/sdcard0/cwm.blob of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p4
10816+1 records in
10816+1 records out
5537896 bytes transferred in 6.596 secs (839583 bytes/sec)
So now im left without a recovery at all
Anyone that might have some tips for me?
? I just read the part where you attempted to install from the os. your prime still boots? lucky. where is the nvidia on the splash screen at boot up bottom center or bottom right?
i have same problem also, my tf201 now have bootloader unlock and twrp 2.2.2.0 recovery, i try to upgrade it to the latest version following instuctions on http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/93
on my command prompt, it said that flashing recovery is success, but everytime i boot to recovery, it is still 2.2.2.0
Solved
I was able to get twirp on by flashing an older wersion of twrp (v 2.3.1.0)

you were actually fortunate you did not completely brick your prime. you did twice what you should never do. you tried to put a jellybean recovery on an ICS bootloader. then not knowing if you had jellybean bootloader or not you attempted to install cwm which is strictly for ics. Both of these things are what hard bricks the most primes here. When you do want to upgrade to Jellybean I suggest you go to post 2 of the androwook thread and follow the instructions there.
I assumed i had JB bootloader since i have android 4.1.2 installed.. guess not
is this the thread you are referring to? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1674827
and this is the official ASUS JB Bootloader? Update JB Bootloader.zip ?
can i just flash the jb bootloader and then twrp 2.3.3.0?
do i need to do a whipe and reinstall my rom afterwards?
I realy appreciate the help im getting here.

[Q] {solved} TF201 in Teamwin recovery loop

Hi all,
Just followed the instructions below to get a new rom on my TF201.
Now I have Teamwin recovery booting showing V2.6.3.0 and asking for a password.
Teamwin does not show data in external or internal sdcards.
I am unable to get into fastboot mode, using power and vol down.
It has failed since running this line fastboot -i 0x0b05 flash recovery ne0zone75_tf300t.blob
I have all of the nvflash blobs etc.
Any ideas how to recover from this point?
Thanks
RR
This may help
Starting from a stock bootloader V 10.4.2.18
What you will need
Woking fastboot & adb / SDcard optional
TWRP for a 201 = twrp_tf201t.blob
@ne0zone75 TWRP for the 300 = ne0zone75_tf300t.blob
HairyBean BL & TWRP: This is effectively turn your 201 into a 300 <---- which is a flashable zip inside the zip that you downloasd
All 3 of the above file are in a zip in the Download section @ the top of every page of the thread ...... THIS ZIP IS NOT FLASHABLE...Your must unzip it to get to the real files !!! The name of this zip is 'upgrade_tf201_to_tf300t.zip'
CROMBI 201 ROM zip
A fully charged tablet
All the above files in the same directory as your fastboot.exe (if using windows) In your home folder on linux....
The process
Lets start with the TWRP recovery for the 201, let flash it with fastboot...
Power your tablet off and with the [ VOL DOWN & POWER ] buttons boot the tablet into the bootloader
Once there [ VOL DOWN ] untill the green box is on the USB ICON then [ VOL UP ] to select fastboot
Let make sure your PC can see your tablet with this command.
Code:
fastboot devices
Code:
fastboot -i 0x0b05 flash recovery twrp_tf201t.blob
Then
Code:
fastboot -i 0x0b05 reboot-bootloader
[ VOL UP ] ON RCK to enter recovery
Once in TWRP check to see if adb is working...
Code:
adb devices
Ok now that we know that is working let go ahead and push the HairyBean BL onto the tablet
Code:
adb push HairyBean_Bootloader_TWRP2.5.zip /sdcard
Now under the install tab in TWRP fine the folder and flash it....
reboot once it has fishined..If ask to install SuperUser say NO..........
LET THE BLUE BAR FILL !!!!!!!!! Once it has finished it will reboot into Hairybean TWRP....
Once booted into recovery, run this command to boot into fastboot
Code:
adb reboot-bootloader
You will see that the USB icon is missing now, this is good... If you still see the USB icon DON'T go to the next step
Now lets flash @ne0zone75 TWRP recovery
Code:
fastboot -i 0x0b05 flash recovery ne0zone75_tf300t.blob
Once that has finished let reboot into bootloader
Code:
fastboot -i 0x0b05 reboot-bootloader
Now enter recovery....
Make sure its verison 2.7.1.0
Go to Wipe////Format Data////Type yes
This can take up to 90 mins to format
DO NOT INTERRUPT THE FORMAT !!!!!!!
Now lets push CROMBI-KK onto your tab
Code:
adb push cm-11.0-2014xxxx-crombi-kk-tf201t.zip /sdcard
Find it under the install tab and flash it..
REBOOT into android, first boot can take up to 15 minutes

Hello I was having a tough time trying to Flash Crombi KK rom. At 1 point I had to use a recovery blob because I was stuck. I started from there upgraded bootloader and twrp 2.5. Flashed twrp 2.8 and Crombi KK rom kept showing fail. I eventually gave up and tried to go from 2.8 TWRP back to 2.5 with JB Bootloader. Bad move I know. Whenever I pressed up to go to recovery it would get stuck. Then eventually I tried wiping data from Bootloader screen. Now the 3 options, recovery, coldboot and wipe data wont show. Stuck at Asus screen "The Device is Unlocked".
I downloaded naked drivers and android ADB drivers.. however I cannot get them to install on windows 7. I'd appreciate any help to try to this back running again

I tried using this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588979 to install ADB. It got to waiting for device and of course nothing. Is there something else needed to get the ADB to read the device? I downloaded the naked drivers as well but nothing showed up in device manager. No executable file to run. Am I missing something?

Ok I have the RCK, Android, wipe data icons.

Woot!
I'm keen to have specific instructions on how to recover from this point back to stock, then take a deep breath and try to get to custom.
My concern is that a lot of the threads with guidance for recovery and flashing are old, and I don't want to brick this thing.
So, is there a thread for recovery to stock from this point?
I have found this thread discussing recovery. http://forum.xda-developers.com/transformer-prime/help/guide-t2864946
am waiting for full charge of tablet at the moment.
Thanks for all the help so far.

You need the blob from the stock frimware downloaded from the Asus website ....
It will be in a zip file that needs unzipped twice ...... Make sure you get the correct 'SKU' for your tablet ......
Then follow this guide, skip to the first fastboot command and go from there .....

You should flash the latest official release.
I met the same issue and solved it by this.
It seems that the very very old bootloader will restore official recovery and boot automatically.

Does boot normal instead of TWRP Recovery

Hi all,
I have the following problem: My Sony Xperia Z5 compact will not boot into recovery, but instead resumes a normal boot. I have unlocked the bootloader following the official instructions by Sony. The flashing of the recovery also seems to work fine:
Code:
$ sudo fastboot flash recovery ./twrp_recovery.img
target reported max download size of 536870912 bytes
sending 'recovery' (19800 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.611s]
writing 'recovery'...
OKAY [ 1.099s]
finished. total time: 1.710s
But both booting with Volume down+Power and with "adb reboot recovery" just boots/reboots into android.
So far I've tried both versions from here (recovery_v3.1.1.img and recovery_suzuran_230218.img), this and the newest from here (recovery_v3.2.1_17.02.2018.img).
I'm already thanking for any help in advance.
Cheers

Recovery works fine. Hold Vol Down + Power when phone is completely off until you feel a vibration, then wait. There have been issues in the past where Magisk was keeping the phone from thoroughly turning off - if you have that issue - hold Vol Up + Power to force shutdown, then Vol Down + Power after a bit to boot to recovery.

I've actually already tried that. The shutdown with [Vol Up + Power] gets confirmed with 3 vibrations. Switching on with [Vol Down + Power] just boots to android again.
Flashing the recovery "on top" of another recovery with "sudo fastboot flash recovery ./twrp_recovery.img" should be no problem, since it replaces the previous recovery. Right?

Actually it flashes it unto the FOTAKernel partition. Afaicr we needed to hook and chain-load the recovery after kernel launches on the Z5 line.
I flashed mine on Windows with the latest fastboot drivers and just did "fastboot flash recovery twrp.img". Your command looks okay and it passes tho so I dont suppose your mistake is there.
Here's what you can try - fastboot flash boot twrp.img
Flash it to the kernel partition and see what happens - if ur phone boots normally then the flashing never happened even if it says it did...

So, that did work. Now the smartphone boots TWRP instead of Android. So this means I just replaced my bootloader, yes? What happens if I flash LineageOS from this TWRP? I believe flashing a ROM only writes to /system, is that right? And how to best replace the bootloader?
Anyhow, thanks

Okay, now we know flashing occurs. You can do anything u want from that TWRP. You didn't replace your bootloader, you replaced your kernel. We can't touch the bootloaders, they are a completely different story :d
Flashing is mostly done to /system - yes but it's not limited to that. That's just the most useful partition as you can already modify most of the others you would be interested in.
Flashing LineageOS will replace your firmware and your kernel.

Thank you very much!
I flashed the ROM, using the TWRP on /boot without problems and now I can also boot /recovery!

Glad I helped! The mods can close the thread now, I guess.
Okay, big problem here! Save me please :fingers-crossed:
I had the same problem : flashing twrp to recovery seemed to work but I was unable to boot on recovery while pressing voldown + power or with "adb reboot recovery", the phone would do a normal boot instead.
Seeing how trax7's suggestion solved orthen2112's problem, I tried the same. Bad luck, now I cannot boot AT ALL. The phone vibrates once but the screen remains black, it does not boot on TWRP, nor on regular android. Please tell me it is not bricked...
I can still go into fastboot mode.
EDIT:
When I try to boot directly on an image of TWRP (I tried several versions) using "fastboot boot recovery.img" I get "FAILED (remote: dtb not found)"

Is your bootloader unlocked? Do you have the latest drivers + adb/fastboot installed?

Thank you for your answer, sorry I did not notice.
My bootloader was indeed unlocked and I had adb + fastboot (on a linux distribution, never had to fetch specific drivers). In the end I tried to use flashtool to flash the stock Android L rom I had used for the downgrade (to backup the TA with the DRM keys before unlocking bootloader) which worked (I could not flash only the kernel image on boot). Then I tried again to boot on TWRP directly from fastboot mode without flashing anything: same error. I then downloaded a few recent stock Android N roms from xperifirm which flashtool could not unzip for some reason, then I found an Australian image elsewhere, and this time flashtool would accept it. So, back to Android N, I tried to flash TWRP again and it worked at last. I'm now running on the Lineage14.1+microG rom (so much better than stock roms I still can't believe it).
I guess TWRP, including old versions I tried, would not boot along the stock Android L rom that was currently flashed so I had to upgrade beforehand. I hope this will help people in the future.
Note for others, I thought I had the same problem as OP, but after doing as trax said with fastboot flash boot twrp.img it didnt boot at all(but did give a single vibrate). What worked for me is following Fetchaspade's instructions. For some reason it is not possible to go into recovery mode with lollipop, but having flashed with nougat I can now get into recovery mode with TWRP.

Ofc that the latest recovery wont work for an Android version it wasn't made for (it would probably work on Marshmallow but Lollipop is too old). A different recovery would work there, the old zxz recovery if i remember correctly.
Also you can fastboot boot the recovery image directly.
Thanks for clarifying Trax, I was not aware that the latest version of TWRP was not backwards compatible with earlier android versions. My reason for posting is because I expect there will be more people following the instructions here; https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/suzuran/install. They will need to downgrade to make a backup of their TA partition, and as I did probably forget to go back to a newer stock version since it is not mentioned in the lineageOS step by step guide.

You dont *have to* backup TA... It's only to preserve your original keys if you want. All of the custom kernels here emulate them anyway if you dont have the backup and LOS doesn't benefit from them at all.

fastboot - not booting to recovery.

Hello, owner of the RN 5 here
After the command fastboot boot twrp.img my device do not enter the twrp, but displays the mi logo and "unlocked" status.
The same happens when I use orange fox recovery.
What might have caused that?
The device is unlocked (the official way) .
Connection (cable, drivers, etc) seems to be ok (anyhow I did unlocked the BL)

Well, that didnt work - copying both twrp and orange recovery changed nothing (still MI logo and "unlocked" status after the command fastboot boot image_file.img).
