1. Boot Into Recovery
2. Flash Debloat package of your choice

4. Reboot
Note
Wiping data is not necessary but it is recommended as this does not delete the updates. if you do not want to wipe data you can flash the zip and manually uninstall apps that where not removed.

I have a question, maybe a noob question.
Can I backup my Xperia Z3 using recovery, then try this and if I don't like it go back to normal?
Or will this do something like the unlocked bootloader thing to my Xperia Z3?

Yes you can backup in recovery..try this then go back..
it wont do anything like change your bootloader status
Works in cwm, sadly not in twrp, flashes fine but removes nothing, using twrp 2.8
I would love to try this out but i'm not to keen on unlocking bootloader right now. Is there any way to debloat and pre-root a stock rom using a PC? I would love it if i could get pointed in the right direction.
I'm about to sell my phone because of an issue i have with it interfering with my Dualshock 4 and i have some vague suspicion that it might be phone-software related.
Alternatively if anyone has a link to a already fully debloated/pre-rooted lollipop rom. I have seen one or two on this forum but one is 4.4 and the other is not a nordic version which i (need?) use.
Thank you

Nice. Thanks for the links. I'll try this in a few hours when i'm back home and have time to flash. One question: Can this be used in the Nordic regions? I only saw UK/RU/ES etc. I feel like it should not matter but couldn't hurt to ask. I'm in Sweden.
Thanks again.

LMFAO
Google is the bloatware. I'll give it a go. I removed most of it anyways already
Still makes no sense. Debloat means to remove Sony Bloatware and not Google or Sony and Google. I cant see any Package to only remove Sony Bloatware.

I'm sorry bro but for me, I think debloat means removing of any unwanted/unneeded applications. Be it Google or Sony.
Anyway, you can still use this script and if in case it removed a Google/Sony app that you need then you can always install in on Play Store.
Actually I removed ~65 aps incl. play store and play services. The ONLY 2 from google I kept were google and text-speech for voice (installing xposed's googleofflinevoice). I even removed album, keeping the analyzer to be safe. If something breaks just reflash the rom zip you are on and start over.

Did you remove them using titanium backup? And did you not break any apps that might use play services?
Factory reset,
wipe cache
wipe dalvik
flash heavy debloat in Philz recovery
wipe cache
wipe dalvik
reboot
Worked perfectly. Thanks

* * * This is a solution * * *
I recently changed my ROM, and as soon as done, started having lots of problems installing apps:
* the play store on my computer would report applications not available for my device, even though I had downloaded and installed them before
* the search in the phone play store application could not find those apps, and when given a direct link would show them as incompatible
* modded version of vending.apk failed to download with the following error: "app name" could not be downloaded due to an error. (942)
* trying to install the backed up apk manually gave me the error "Application not installed"
* restoring titanium backup failed and left the restore process hanging
* manually copying the apk to /system/app/ and fixing the permissions still did not show the app
I tried many things, different roms, different ril, different mods of Vending.apk and GoogleServicesFramework.apk, clearing data and cache, deleting files in .android_secure, etc, nothing worked. Searching the forum brought up many posts about other people with the same problem, but no working solution.
Finally, I found the solution: I was using the wrong gapps package!
The one I had flashed was for 2.3.2, my previous rom, whereas the new one was based on 2.3.7. It did not occur to me, that there could be enough changes to break market functionality, since I was sticking to gingerbread.
If you have the same problem, head to http://goo.im/gapps and pay close attention to the table matching the right google apps package to your android version. Download it, and flash through recovery.

This is a preview build of CM10.2 for the Samsung Galaxy Player 4. It may cause all the things in the disclaimer to happen, or steal your girlfriend while you are busy flashing ROMs.
Note: Please backup your efs in case of something goes wrong (the zip should backup it but we're never too sure) To do so execute this command:
Code:
dd if=/dev/block/stl3 of=/sdcard/efs.rfs
Preview Install instructions:
*** If upgrading from CM9 or CM10 or even CM10.1, it is recommended that you wipe data.
1. Download cm-9-20130402-kernel-preflash.zip
md5: 4a900fcddbc3d81d121a7b9c9d4bb0a0
2. Download cm-10.2-20140210-UNOFFICIAL-ypg1
3. Make all your backups.
4. Make sure your efs is intact (not blank).
5. Boot into recovery, make more backups.
6. Flash cm-9-20130402-kernel-preflash.zip (temporary workaround for first-time install from stock)
7. Flash cm-10.2-20140210-UNOFFICIAL-ypg1
Note: To all those flashing 09/29 build and later, if you're in an old build of CM10.2, PLEASE RESTORE YOUR /EFS AFTER UPDATING!!!!. I moved the /efs partition and some items will get deleted prior flashing the update. It can lead to some issue with touchscreen with US devices.
Installation Notes:
When you install for the first time, there is a conversion to the new MTD partition layout. The installer will flash the new kernel and reboot. It is possible for this process to hang up on the samsung logo (still working that part out). It is normal to see the Samsung logo appear 3 seperate times during this reboot phase. **Please wait at least a minute before assuming you are stuck.** If this happens, you should extract the boot.img from the installer zip and flash it with heimdall (heimdall flash --kernel boot.img, or other appropriate GUI methods). It should boot back into recovery and continue the installation. Once the install finishes, it should reboot once more back into recovery, which gives you the opportunity to flash your gapps.
**Google Apps are not included in these ROMs. You'll need to install those yourself if you want them. Recommended and highly suggested are the 4.3 Gapps

I thought your were gonna wait to perfect 4.2.2 but cant complain about keeping our device uptodate thanks.
does it have the same issues as 4.2.2?

Messaging crashes on boot.
Built in super user seems to be working for me.

messaging FC's on boot and despite doing both links I still don't have a working SU app, aside from that and the lack of governors (can I use Impulse kernel on this?) seems pretty good.

Hmm that's weird, I thought that super su would work. You're sure you're using the 1.51 zip? And CM10.2 is still in the works so expect fc everywhere lool.
Also impulse probably won't work with 4.3. There have been changes in the kernel and the ramdisk which makes it unusable.

What would have earned Superuser, you need to unlock developer mode.
Must be pressed several times on the build number in about tablet

You will collect kernel under 10.2 with the capabilities of both the Impulse?
How to swap the internal memory card on the outside?
While it was possible only through init.d, but when connected to the PC all comes back, you need to reboot (.
#!/system/bin/sh
mount -t vfat /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 /storage/sdcard1

I don't understand your first question (translate must have messed up!). If it's about making a build with some impulse features, no I won't make them. (Impulse features remains in Impulse or any other custom kernel)
Also android 4.3 changes how sdcards are handled so for the moment, you can't switch them.
Well I went back into CWM did a Wipe Data/Factory reset, Wipe Cache and Wipe Dalvick then reinstalled Gapps (don't know if needed) and the Beta 2 from the first link (for superuser app) and rebooted and then enabled developer options and went down to root access and set it to Apps and ADb (was only Apps before) then opened Superuser (the new one not the baked in one) and it came up without issue so I tried to Overclock using No-Frills CPU and BANG the prompt to give Superuser access came up and all is well with the world.
Root is working now, I would not recommend trying the SuperSU 1.51 after this as it will delete the Superuser (that works) while trying to update the binaries, at which it fails to do.
are there plans to make an Impulse like kernel for this? I would really like to have the other governors as an option, I don't like the stock ones. Also for the time being I went in to the app manager and disabled messaging to prevent all the FC messages.

I installed SuperSU 1.51 by flashing the .zip at the same time as installing the ROM. It works straight out of the box as binaries are already updated.
No wipes, just install straight over 10.1 - after the usual rebuild of the dalvik cache (android is updating...) there was a further update of databases.
I used BaNkS Gapps, which I highly recommend as it installs only the core requirement - everything else can be downloaded from Play.
To get rid of the Messaging fc pop ups, I froze the app.
The baked in superuser works fine for me. I did not have to flash super su.

Edit: Only for the info, what is the size of our system partition? Is it 1.85 Gb?

The actual size of /system is 455,5 MB. I could squeeze other partitions space to get a 10mb more. The other thing I could do is to make like actual Aries device which they merge /system and internal SD card. Which give us a whole lot of space but would take a bit of time to implement because I'm really busy right now. (cegep as you know...)

Yeah I know what it is, alot of work all at the same time. I only wanted to know the size, for me 455mb is way enought space, I install almost nothing on my player to keep it clean. On the other way, just finished wiping/flashing/repairing everything, running it right now and setting my stuff, so far so good, all is going as it should. One thing I noticed is that the status bar isn't transparent, no big deal, I think it's not in cm for now, or maybe I forgot something.

Transparent status bar is implemented in android 4.4, However, the thing is I set a special flag for our devices here :
https://github.com/bbelos/android_device_samsung_ypg1/commit/f0f6b0f812ea820a581957446b05c36c912c1616
This flag disable all framework fancy stuff (as well as other things you've probably seen) to be sure that it doesn't use as much ram as possible. You can remove it, it's in the build.prop. I do know that I've enabled lockscreen transparent status bar but I don't think I've enabled it for the home screen.

No it shouldn't. As I said, you may want to remove some apps because maybe the limitations of the space cause some apps to not install properly... You can try these gapps too. (though I can't confirm their compatibility with ART)

The core are the lightest ones (about 20 MB but include basically the play store and sync stuff)

How do you even get YouTube to play HD? I have to use a modded apk using the old YouTube app
Sent from my YP-G70 using Tapatalk
I set my device DPI to 90 because I prefer the tablet ui experience. I think if you set your device DPI to 213 or lower it should play HD video without the need for a nodded apk.

Nope, I'm in ahuntsic since the beginning of the year. (Marianopolis, Dawson, etc are a bit too far from my home as I live in the north-east side of the island XD) It would have been funny that we haven't seen each other since the first day loool.
Actually I'm kinda surprised that that there's a 3rd Canadian here!! (even more another qcer)

IntroductionMost Android devices come with bloatware in some form or another. At best, nearly all of those apps do nothing but take up precious space. At worst, they get in your way of working productively and efficiently. Wouldn't it be nice if getting rid of those apps was just a matter of uninstalling them?
Problem is, there is no easy way to completely rid yourself of bloat—unless you have a rooted device, in which case, completely jettisoning that bloatware is actually possible. But even if you don't have a rooted device, all is not lost. I want to introduce you to some tools that will help you rid yourself of that bloatware—or hide it from sight on un-rooted devices.
Before I introduce you to the apps, I have to remind you to always have a full backup of your device and to use caution when deleting apps. Do not delete critical system apps—otherwise you'll wind up with a non-functioning phone. End standardized warning.
I am going to share Bloatware Removal Script especially designed for Android Marshmallow. You can use this script after flashing Custom ROMs on your device. This script will remove main apps like CM File Manager, Launcher3, CMHome, AOSP Browser, AOSP Gallery, AOSP Camera etc. I have also made a flashable zip of Extra Apps that will install Es File Manager, Gallery Extra by Cyanogen, AudioFX by Cyanogen, ScreenCast by Cyanogen, Google Now Launcher etc. on your system partition.

Hey, thanks for sharing :good:
I noticed this script shares 98% of the code from the one from this thread (download). If you used this (or any other) script as a base, it'd be nice if you'd give credit. This is no accusation by all means, just noticed the similarity.

INTRODUCTION:
Hello!
I'm Robert, an satisfied and happy user of the Samsung Galaxy J5 ( J500FN), but somehow bored of it since it doesn't have any custom rom or kernel, in few words, xda support. At begin, i was planning to build Cyanogenmod or AOSP and an custom kernel with minimal features, but i lack the knowledge to do it, but it's not impossible, just that i have alot of headache and i'm not that happy with that. I was also planning to do an custom rom too, with many features and many themes available, this is easier, but again alot of headache. I can't promise i would do these, but i may try again to make a better custom rom.
So, here is Stock ROM Advanced. It's just an simple rom, nothing more yet. Check out the features section for more informations.Screenshots attached ( switch XDA theme to 2013 or 2015 theme from bottom of page and click on Screenshots tab if you can't see them.
Please share this XDA thread since Galaxy J5 doesn't have it's own xda forum...
FEATURES:
- Based on firmware J500FNXXU1AOI1_J500FNDBT1AOI2_J500FNXXU1AOI1
- Pre-Rooted with SuperSU (v2.66)
- Busybox installed (v1.24.1-osm0sis)
- Zipaligned all system apps (for better utilization of RAM) - What mean this? <--- click
- Deodexed - What mean this? <--- click
- Debloated - removed some samsung apps and some other unecessary apps for more RAM, more internal memory available and less wakelocks (so more battery). More info about removed apps in post #2.
- Knox removed
- Faster boot & shutdown
- Faster than stock? You tell me
Click to collapse
That's all the features it has now. Is just an custom rom based on stock rom, with some minimal changes, but improving the daily experience, at least for me. I can't promise, but maybe in future i will make it more than an simple rom, with more features. I repeat, can't promise it. I have decided to add more features in next version.
DOWNLOAD:
Stock_ROM_Advanced <<< click. Just mediafire link for now.
DO NOT MIRROR THE ROM. IF YOU WANT AN MIRROR, LET ME KNOW AND I WILL UPLOAD IT TO THE WEBSITE YOU WISH since i have good network! Thank you!
INSTALLATION:
(it's actually easy to install it, but i've wrote it this way because there may be new people to XDA which just wish the rom and doesn't want to bother by searching to how to do it)
1. Download the rom and put it on your External SD Card ( make sure you have enough space).
2. Download this TWRP recovery: TWRP recovery by @aapav01 - more info about this recovery at CREDITS
You can also use TWRP 3.0 by [MENTION]Nick Verse [/MENTION]which is fully working. Big thanks to him as well. If you didn't know yet, he also made a KERNEL for our J5
3. Download ODIN program. I'm using v3.09
4. Enable the OEM unlock bootloader option at developer options (if you can't see Developer Options, then go to Settings > About phone and tap 7 times build number).
5. Reboot your phone in download mode by keeping pressing Power button + home button + volume DOWN button at same time for few seconds. After an blue screen will appear, press volume up button.
6. Connect your phone with usb cable to your PC.
7. Open ODIN program and an number should appear at ID:COM. If it doesn't, then make sure that the phone usb drivers are installed.
8. Click on AP or PDA ( according to the version of odin which you downloaded) and choose the TWRP recovery you've downloaded and click START. Wait until the process finish.
9. Now go to TWRP recovery by keeping pressing Power button + home button + volume UP button at same time for few seconds.
10. Choose Wipe, then Advanced wipe and choose Dalvik Cache, System, Data and Cache and then Swipe to wipe.
11. Now choose Install and go to the place where you did put the ROM and choose it. Wait till installation finish and DON'T REBOOT YET.
12. Flash GAPPS. I use Open Gapps, ARM 5.1.1 pico version. http://opengapps.org/ . It's XDA thread is HERE .
13. Wipe dalvk cache & cache.
14. Reboot & WAIT 5-10 minutes until it boot!. Only first boot is longer. NOTE: When you reboot, if it ask you for SuperSU choose "do not install".
15. If you followed all the steps carefully, then everything will be OK. Enjoy
Click to collapse
Flashing GAPPS is required because if you don't you will be stuck at setup wizard. This issue is probably caused by one of the removed apps. However, it won't cause any other problem. So, flashing GAPPS is a must right after you flash the rom, but you can remove them if you wish after you finish Setup Wizard.
CREDITS:
@SuperR. for his nice and useful kitchen.
@aapav01 for the TWRP recovery. Big thanks to him because without the recovery, you couldn't even flash the rom!
@osm0sis for busybox
@Chainfire for SuperSU
@Force me, for doing this small rom
Pressing the THANKS button does give me some satisfaction/motivation

- ScreenOffAnimation
- Android Phone Vibrator
- Flat Style Bar Indicators
- Greenify
- NoSafeVolumeWarning
- Notification Manager
Thank you:
@22rp420 @nov01 for confirming some xposed modules!
If you know more xposed modules which are working on our phone, share with us!
2. My phone is running slow / has lag. Why?
My phone haven't lag or ran slow never and i'm using Power Saving mode all the time.
Use Greenify app to hibernate the apps which are running in background. Maybe you don't want Facebook or other apps running in background, eating RAM and battery while you use your phone or while your phone is in idle/standby. Then Greenify become useful. It does help gaining some more available RAM and also battery.
Also, don't use any Task killer because it is not necessary. It just does the opposite: make the phone run slow.
3. My battery drain too fast!
People use phone different. Everyone. My best SOT (screen on time) was 13 hours. Maybe you can or can't achieve that SOT. It all depends of how you use the phone.
The biggest battery drainer on Android are:
- Facebook app, facebook messenger
- Google Services
Greenify does help gaining battery too.
You should install BetterBatteryStats app to see what is draining your battery.
Personally, i'm using facebook in browser and i enable play services when i need them. I disable them with Tasker app by running some shell commands. Of course, you can do this with init.d too or some other apps. I will share the shell commands which i'm using later. I have maximum 10 minutes wakelocks in BetterBatteryStats widget and my battery doesn't drain even 1% per night.

I don't have any issue with the WiFi, but I think that the problem might be caused by WlanTest which I've removed it.
Later, I'll post here an flashable zip which does bring the WlanTest back and hopefully Wifi gets fixed.
Thank you both for reporting this!

I'm sorry for being late and also that i haven't made an flashable zip. I uploaded an zip file containing the WlanTest.apk.
1) Download WlanTest zip and extract the zip on your sdcard.
2) After you extracted the zip, you will have an folder named WlanTest and inside the folder WlanTest.apk. Use an file explorer with root and move the folder WlanTest to /system/app.
3) Set permission for the folder like this: http://i.imgur.com/gin3axj.png .

I was quite busy on working on the rom. Starting from next version, the rom will have a new name. It will also be themed, will have it's own logo and own bootanimation and more. Don't wanna spoil
