If you have a question search first then post if you can't find an answer.
The Q&A has been filled with either questions regarding LP root and how to upgrade.
FOR LP ROOTING: Nothing past 4.4.2 can be rooted as of now, you cannot downgrade to an earlier version to root. If you're current rooted and have safe strap installed you can flash a rooted version of LP (method here)
HOW TO UPGRADE: If you're currently not rooted and past 4.4.2 take the ota if you're rooted and have safe strap installed follow the link above

Hello, I have verizon note 2, it has stock 4.1.2 android installed. I want to update it to kitkat, what can you suggest how can I update it ?
I've read not ro accept ota updates. How can I update me phone to kitkat without accepting otas? someone answer me.
Use casual to root and unlock. Then update the custom recovery to newest. Then follow the directions to flash the stock rom in the development section of this forum for this phone.
If you don't use root or flash roms then I don't understand why your worried about taking the ota.
Oh btw, demanding someone to answer you isn't the best way to get someone to answer you.
I need a bit of help with this one.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 on Verizon, Android 4.4.2 Build VRUFNK4 (I believe this is an intermediate build between the stock VRUFNK1 and Lollipop).
What I'd like to do is root, backup the current build and then revert back if possible to VRUFNK1.
I'm new to rooting a phone so I could use a bit of help and links. I've read many of the posts and tips, but most specifically don't mention my build, which makes me a bit nervous.
Will towelroot work with this ?
Should I use TWRP or Titanium for backup ?
And.........can I find and revert back to the official build VRUFNK1 (4.4.2)
I simply want to get out of this strange build, remove bloatware........ and have some control over not being pestered over OTA updates from Verizon/Samsung.
Possibly, in the future, I'll play around with some custom ROM's.
Any help and opinions would be appreciated.
For what it's worth...................
After digging around on the net for a few days, I found the following. Now, I can't be sure if this works, so consider the implications. If someone else here on XDA can verify it then it might work.
If you have a Verizon Galaxy S4 with the 4.4.2 build of VRUFNK4 this was part one of two updates to Lollipop. Many people like me had been deferring the update and then somehow pushed the wrong button and "wham" got stuck with VRUFNK4., but they were able to stop further installation to Lollipop.
So for people stuck on VRUFNK4 it's pretty much the same as the previous VRUFNK1 except mine seems to eat battery power. AND, from what I know VRUFNK4 is not directly rootable( list below).
i545vrugOC1 5.0.1 Lollipop
i545vrufnk4 4.4.2 (intermediate update to prepare for Lollipop, part one)
i545vrufnk1 4.4.2 Kitkat
i545vrufng6 4.4.2 Kitkat
i545vrufnc5 4.4.2 Kitkat
So, you basically have three choices:
-- Leave it on VRUFNK4 (which is part one of a two part update to Lollipop) and live with the issues.
-- Allow the update all the way to Lollipop and live with Lollipop (and possibly root there)
-- Use the following procedure (yet to be confirmed by someone here at XDA and hopefully help with details)
1. Use Odin 3.09 to flash back to VRUFNC5 (KitKat 4.4.2)
2. If the flash is successful, root with TowelRoot
3. Once rooted on NC5 you should be able to flash whatever build you want, backup and recovery using
Titanium Backup, etc.
Anyone that wants to chime in here, it would be appreciated.
Just thinking.........
Could someone with experience in flashing explain to me why a person can't flash directly to a certain build, in this case,
Android 4.4.2 VRUFNK1 from a newer one (reverting to an earlier build) ??
from what i understand, you should be able to flash anything from NC5 and above via odin with NK4. the Bootloader was changed in lollipop builds OC1 and OF1 so that you can no longer downgrade to older builds from those.
Thanks bangdosa for the info. You seem to be familiar with all this stuff.
So, just to clarify, would it be true that if you're on NK4, you could flash using Odin to NC5 ? And hopefully root.

Hi,
I am on stocked FOF6, unrooted. I've searched and could not find consistent answers.
Some suggest that this can be done without tripping KNOX in one step: From 5.1.1 to 4.4 so you can root
Another suggestion is a 2 step process: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=65236821&postcount=61
And another saying you can't http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=65190239&postcount=54. This also appears in the compilation thread Compilation of S5 (G900T) Stock Firmware/Root Methods/Bootloader/Modem/Recovery:
*Note: Don't use official 5.1.1 if you want to be able to downgrade firmware. Follow these instructions.*

Has anyone successfully downgraded (without a rooted 5.1.1)?
Thanks

Well, if you are officially on the unrooted, stock 5.1.1, and haven't installed the custom recovery, you can just take the OTAs. That would be the easiest route.
If you have bumped with TWRP or have a custom stock 5.1.1 ROM, or are rooted, then look for any of the threads that discuss how to revert back to 10B and once that has occurred, you can take the OTAs to upgrade to the latest MM version.
Actually, just a thread or two below this one is the guide you're looking for:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-lg-g3/general/lg-g3-downgrade-to-10b-t3354834
Not to sound mean or nasty, but I won't repeat what is in that thread because it's repeating things that are already outlined and just pollutes the forum.
Hope this helps!
Flash the 47A KDZ with LG Flash Tool 2014 if you're not using Verizon and therefore can't take OTAs.

You could flash this latest image if you want then:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...t/vs985-46a-stock-flashable-firmware-t3304365
You'll have to root and then bump with TWRP to flash it if you're not already rooted and bumped.
Hi,
Details about phone: Samsung S6 (G920I) I can't remember the exact ROM im on (yes im a noob). However my build number is LMY47X, which when searched by most views comes up with this rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-w/development/rom-aosp-alpha-1-t3107740) Android version 5.1.1 I have TWRP v. 3.0.2-1 as my custom recovery.
So my phone keeps restarting randomly been getting worse over the past few weeks. So I want to try a new ROM (had my current one for like 8 months). So I made a ROM back up just in case through TWRP and backed up all my user data through Titanium and exported both of it onto my PC.
I found a ROM I want to use "XtreStoLite" ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...xtrestolite-deodexed-mod-edition-1-0-t3094423) but I have a few questions before I try to install it.
First of will this work fine for the current setup I have?
Since I'm on 5.1.1 and they have a ROM version for 6.0.1 will I be able to install this version or do I have to use the 5.1.1 version? I've tried updating to 6.0.1 on my current ROM but my provider won't let me update OTA. Only way is to remove root and return it back to the stock ROM which I don't really want to do if I can avoid it.
Please help, any information will be greatly appreciated, feel free to ask any questions.

This ROM will work for your device. Based on what I read in the OP's post on how to install this ROM there are two prerequisites. You will need to use Odin to flash a Marshmallow bootloader and a Marshmallow modem for this ROM to work. This is an excerpt from the ROM's OP:
How-to Install:
Install Marshmallow bootloader & modem and install custom recovery:
- Install the correct MM bootloader & modem for your model with Odin (see post #5 of this thread)
- Make sure that you have an working TWRP custom recovery installed.
If you follow the OP's instructions you should not have any problems. Make sure you read, read and read. The OP has given an excellent guide. Post #5 in this thread has the download links for the Marshmallow bootloader and modem and instructions on what slot to put the files in using Odin. Good luck and happy flashing.
Also, if you wanted to stick with a Lollipop ROM the OP still has links to his Lollipop ROM's available.
