Low volume @ Lollilop - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
For quite sometime now I have been using Samsung ROMs like MD4, QS-KK, etc
Recently I tried switching to lollipop ROMs - temasek and others. However, what I noticed is that the sound volume for ringtone, notifications, and alarm is quite low; not only temasek but others as well
Can you please help me understand how it can be raised? I had tried the latest Viper4Android but in vain.. If there is any other mod, I am using Dolby on MD4, then I will be very happy to try that
Thanks

If it is not a hardware malfunction or dirt in the speaker than you could try to install custom kernel, ie. Boeffla and rise master volume via Boeffla config app.

Thanks. Have you tried V4A? I tried it on cm 12.1 by justArchi yesterday but every time I open the app, it asks for driver installation irrespective of the fact that drivers were already installed last time.. also xTra loud doesn't seem to be effective. .

You need to set the SELinux to "Permissive" and installs the drivers of V4A and it will work

You can also modify the levels in /system/etc/sound/m0

[Q] Wireless headset on CM10

I have the Corsair Vengeance 2000 headset and i would like to use it with my SGS3 running Temasek's unofficial CM10 rom.
I tried using a OTG-cable and plugged in the the USB adapter that comes with the headset but no sound seems to go through.
When i connect the USB and turn on the headset, i am able to control the volume with the wheel on the side of the headset but i can't play sound.
I ticked on "use usb dock audio" in advanced settings but still, no sound.
What can i do to get sound through?
What am i doing wrong?
I am willing to change ROM or Kernel to get this to work, if possible.
I have a friend who got a g930 to work on his sgs3.
Thanks in advance.
If you are using custom kernel than there is an option ENABLE OR DISABLE PRIVACY MOD in sound section of kernel settings that might be the problem...
I'm afraid i have no idea what you are talking about.
I checked in setting>sound and there was no such option.
Am i looking the wrong place?
Sorry for being a noob

You're talking about boeffla kernel which is not compatible with CyanogenMods.

I'm using the boeffla kernel currently. Should i change kernel?
Edit: I am using Temasek's unofficial CM10.1 who suggested using this boeffla kernel in his thread.

Then there's your problem. Like I said boeffla kernel is NOT compatible with cyanogemod so yes you better change it. You're quite lucky your device isn't bootlooping.
"Note: This kernel is only for Samsung based Jelly Bean (Android 4.1.x) roms!!! Do not install it on CM or AOSP based roms!!!
Also do NOT install it on any Samsung 4.2.x based Roms!!! You will just get a boot loop!!!"

Upon browsing temasek's thread I see that he is indeed using a boeffla kernel but from what I can understand there is he's modifying it for it to be compatible so he made minor adjustments. I just don't know if he is still using boeffla kernel 2.x or the 3.x branch. You can however use the default kernel provided in the OP of temasek's thread and see if that can fix your problem.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1797109
EDIT:
Your still on 10.1 when temasek's rom is already on 10.2
Download links for the 10.1 kernel are still available on the thread of temasek.
no you do not have the boeffla kernel installed (which is for stock sammy) but you have temasek kernel with boeffla sound (it's an important difference ) so the kernel is just fine for cm10.2
I think it is not possible to use a wireless headset (which is not based on bluetooth) on android, because there are no compatible drivers. I had a similiar idea: i tried to connect my external usb sound card with usb otg. on cm10.1 i was able to hear sound through it, but I was never able to switch on the optical out of the soundcard because the driver was missing. Now on cm10.2 I am even not able to hear any music with it. maybe just for a test you could try a cm10.1 based rom, because there I personally had the best results with music through otg
Edit: sorry i saw your post to late (I am really to slow in writing )
Edit2: @ OP: which rom does your friend with the g930 use?
Edit3: last one: I think the option with privacy mode is in the boeffla sound config app (sorry I cannot check it, because I do not use this kernel anymore)

I am using cm10.1
I have tried using an external usb sound card and that worked just fine.
I am not sure what ROM he is using. And i also have no means of finding out.
I tried the privacy mode and it does nothing. I don't think it recognizes the headset because it is not plugged in the minijack

Yes. As far as i know privacy mode on boeffla sound only supports headsets being plugged through the headphone jack.

Has anyone ever had any success with this kind of thing?
As i stated earlier i am willing to switch roms or kernel to make this work.

[ROM][4.4.4][YP-G70][GCC4.8] Nexus 5 Experience, crDroid for Galaxy Player 5.0

Hi G70 users!
I've built some KitKat based custom ROMs for GP 5.0 out of opensource device and kernel source and I'm here to share them with you
These builds include
- ArchiDroid optimizations V3 by @JustArchi
- Nutella kernel & device source by @Meticulus
- SaberMod Toolchain by Saber-Dev (I'm not sure what their xda username is..?)
Just download one, reboot into recovery, wipe userdata and flash the ROM with GApps.
Huge thanks to @Meticulus, as our Galaxy Player would have been dead ages ago if it were not for him.
Downloads
N5X: (Something went wrong in the last build, figuring out what's the troublemaker..)
crDroid: http://mii.iptime.org:88/samsung/galaxy%20player%205.0/crDroid/
(Zoom out for smaller text sizes, if too big)
crDroid Mirror: http://achonapp.com/?path=/samsung/GALAXY PLAYER/YP-GB70/kykint/crDroid
PA GApps: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=15797a (Micro-Modular recommended)
SuperSU: http://download.chainfire.eu/supersu
What's working
Probably everything that works on @Meticulus 's CarbonROM.
Tips
Tap 'build number' repeatedly in Settings > Device info to enable Developers options.
Set max frequency to 1400MHz for better performance in Settings > Performance > Processors.
Set current runtime to ART for super smoothness in Settings > Developers options.
Enable 'Force highend graphics' to use Dynamic System Bars in Settings > Performance.

Keep up the good work !! :good: :good:
Sorry for the late update, a new build will be up this weekend with the latest SM toolchain & google dns fixes and possibly a booting N5X rom!
New build is UP!
crDroid 14/12/22
- Built with latest SM toolchains
- Added back cyanogenmod dnsmasq
- Fixed google dns FC in codinalteparts (not sure if fully working, though)
- Download available at http://mii.iptime.org:88/samsung/galaxy%20player%205.0/crDroid/
Sorry for being late. Will be back with N5X soon.
Kykint-
It appears that the DSPManager.apk may be missing from the System App folder of this crDroid Rom. I am receiving "unfortunately, dsp manager has closed" errors whenever attempting to play any music.
This occurred on both builds of this Rom. Your old Nexus5 build is working normally and I confirmed that the DSPManager.apk is in that Rom.
I am now trying to add the apk to the System App folder of the crDroid Rom. I'll let you know if that works.
Other than that issue, thanks for a great Rom!

Actually the dspmanager apk is well located in system/priv-app and my own GP is playing musics without any problem. Try factory reset and re-installing ROM, and then let me know if it is still broken.[emoji6]

Re-installation Blisspop

This is my situation:
Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 Android 5.1.1 Bliss Version: 4.0.1
Bliss Build: BlissPOP-V4.0.1-I9300-Official-2015-09016-1709
Kernel: 3.0.31-CM> ArchiKernel-basis-g76cc1109 keturr74 @ keturr74 # 1
with Minimal Gapps
But I have a lot of problems and I would like to start over.
What is the latest stable Blisspop for I9300?
But I could also try a version of UNOFFICIAL Blisspop me if indicated?
then it is best to use Banks Gapps or TK Gapps?
Thank you in advance

Doesn't matter
In the installation I've done with version BlissPOP-V4.0.1-I9300-Official-2015-09016-1709 with minimal GAPP,
I had problems solved using the Play app store about
- the camera, app installing Cinema FV-5,
- watching videos using AVI app MX Player changing settings in the decoder by HW SW,
- Calendar not syncronizing using APP Calendar
The reason why I would like to install the new version is that I have not found how to operate an FM radio and listen to the caller's phone calls.
Any suggestions on these two points?
For the rest it's all right. The phone is very fast, network, WIFI, Bluetooth work well, battery runs out not quickly.

@MasterJack1697, no sound in ear-speaker when incoming and outgoing calls.
Handset/Loudspeaker of call works fine
Working here. But I used Despair kernel (multirom reasons). Very nice build. I was able to get the 3Minit mod to work too with an old zip that I had for my personal build of N that "search826" made for me for that build, it wasn't perfect but I suspect a zip could be made that would work if it were made for this rom.
Video and audio playback is working. Speakers on call work but are lower than normal volume, but able to hear. Speaker phone works good.
Nice look too.

Is optimax 5.7 working for you guys!??

Do you mean making a backup of the data partition? If so then I can't for my phone. For anything else I can. Let me know.
Backup ALL as usual in TWRP. If want to roll back, in advanced restore you can choose which partition to restore

You didn't read my last post. There's no way to back up the data partition on my phone even through TWRP. It has to do with data encryption.
