Hello,
I was very disappointed on sony since their official lollipop release, check it here https://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-Z-Ultra/sony-z-ultra-5-0-update-bugs/m-p/970604#U970604
And, begging for small devs to find why the device, when using a custom rom, has a very small, low, volume recording while recording with the camera app, snapchat, and, even shazam cannot recognize the sound because it's very low.
And, there's a second issue, we need to port the camera app from Kit Kat to CM12, because the camera app that they has released lags a lot...
I bet that for developpers, or even regular people that knows what to do could easily do something... This is just to edit some letters or words in a file or some files for the sound, and the camera port, it's just to create something but I don't know how...
Do you think that would work ?
See ? Nobody cares

Hi Digitalizeur
I see that nobody cares your project, that is very bad, you have good ideas
I don't have the experience to help you, sorry
But one thing I can say, you cannot Port KK Stock camera to CM12, but LP Stock Camera is possible to port, I don't know how but I know that is possible ?

Should I get an iPhone 6 Plus ?
Because I hate every stock rom from sony, and, I hate every cyanogenmod based rom because they don't work for audio capture and audio reproduction.
That's a shame. (it's ain't even hard to allow a decent recording volume for the device, I don't understand why they don't work on this).
I used to hate acer for their liquid mini (E310) that lagged as hell, then I got the Galaxy Note GT-N7000, it was so laggy on stock, couldn't even draw anything in a online game, I could only use the kernel for CyanogenMod 11 that I was able to overclock to get a decent fluidity... Now I have this Z Ultra that nobody works on it
the worst part of this issue is to not be able to record a song with shazam

IPhone would be a fine choice. I quite like iOS.
I get the feeling that you'll find something to hate about any phone that you have.
I've never used Shazam so im afraid that i struggle to empathise.

Did someone found a difference in sharpness and noise(high ISO) between AOSP and Stock based roms? I have the sensation of some kind of blurred images when i use AOSP ...
Thanks!
stock camera takes better images, yes
images will blur if you've not got a steady hand. Its more apparent to me on aosp cameras

Stock Camera shoots better videos, audio quality is defenatly better, but also pics quality
Hmm disagree there. Yes, the stock AOSP maybe, but once you use the modded one with ultrapixel, you'll wonder why everyone thinks the Sammy camera is better (until you get into low light or if you have Parkinsons or something)

There are literally no bad cameras, AOSP or not, only bad photographers. I mean, the One doesn't have the best camera around but there are some awesome shots to be taken with it, if you're a master photographer.
All phone cameras have their own issues. Its hardware mainly. Compare the s3 camera to almost any dedicated compact of the same "on paper" specs and you'll see.
Oems just can't afford to make the phone camera that good. With the S3, its low light. With the Xperia T its the flash....
That said, you can get some good shots with them. Its just the tolerance on the perfect conditions is much smaller than a compact.

Newbiee question.
Does the use of 3º party software changes anything?
I say this because i use for photos "Camera FV-5" software...and i think is sometimes much better than stock one (at least has more options).
Using Last Sentinel Rom.
Tks.

It uses all the existing drivers and libraries for the device, but often a different app can bring additional / different functionality with it.

So, since i use a AOSP ROM (Liquid Smooth 2.5) and a 3º party software, i have worse photos than original ROM?
Apart the photographer detail, is this correct?

Yes. I Love SlimKat and SOKP (also CM11 with my previous phone), BUT the picture quality is worse compared to stock sammy roms. Fully working HDR mode is not easy in AOKP roms.
Hello everybody,
Can you please tell me which custom ROM I should install to get the best camera (photos&videos) experience?
I´m running LiquidSmooth right now and although I have great battery and high customisation, photos and videos aren´t really that great, specially comparing to the original Samsung ROM the phone came with.
Can you please help suggesting me some other options?
Thank you all!
In the past:
processors were minimal (custom kernels and overclocking with CM helped fill in the gaps)
bloatware choked performance due to lack of space (CM eliminated bloatware)
GUI's were clunky and unintuitive (simplicity of CM, i.e. basic Android, was a necessity)
manufacturers added no value with their launchers and modifications (CM eliminated the manufacturer's oft ill conceived changes)
software updates lagged far behind Google updates.
And now:
processors work as is
space is plentiful, bloatware is not an issue
GUI's actually work
manufacturers are adding functionality
software updates are more current with Google changes.
So, I have to ask, what does CM bring to the table? When I put it on the Note 2, CM eliminated functionality without adding any improvements. I can't see where it would add anything to the Sony Xperia Ultra. I can see how it would take functionality away just like it did with the Note 2.
CM has redefined itself as an operating system. Its goal is to be the operating system for hardware manufacturers just like Android and Apple. Smart move. The CM we knew is no longer needed. Out of the box Samsung, HTC and Sony premium smart phones actually perform well, are being updated on a regular basis and have manufacturer added value. We have to think of CM as being the OEM operating system, not a replacement for Sony, Samsung and HTC Android operating systems.
CM is adding an app to the play store that will make it easy to install CM to devices. I see that as an acknowledgement to where it came from, not a step to its future. It will not be long before we buy Samsung, Sony and HTC phones with CM as the operating system.
I love Cyanogen. And is my point why I love android.
But unfortunately they trying to support many devices and they lose quality.
I remember how we was happy with G1 to see crazy benchmarking with Cyanogen., now it's lower than stock They said Sony is very friendly with the developers (source etc) but I remember Cyanogen on Xperia Z....it was bad experience I ever taste. And then it was a scandal with Samsung. They promise to stop supporting...... but as you see cyanogen is more business now than love.
And I know many developers who got same opinion as me.
But we still love them and we will love them.
While I agree with a lot of what you say... the note2 was very different. any device that has another piece of hardware that you use with it for a purpose, then CM wont work 'stand alone'. Samsung's note applications were great and thats where CM was left standing and waiting....
With the Ultra, it doesn't have any specific apps that take advantage of the 'sketch' application. There are loads that do the same, and even better on the playstore.
I can see CM being a clean neat feel. However it will need to be cleaner and smoother than the xperia UI for it to be a real advantage to flash.

I don't know, I prefer AOSP, so even if there's nothing else offered by CM, I'd still rather run it than Sony's ROM (not that this phone has a bad ROM; in fact, I've been surprisingly happy with it out of the box).
I'm not a fan of any manufacturer skin out there, so CM is what i flash when i want a "pure" and light ROM. It's all about looks and feel for me, and since CM is a barebone experience, i can make it my own from scratch. I have a Galaxy Note, and i've used CM on it for the past 15 months. I quickly noticed that i didn't use any of Samsung's bloatware or any other Samsung features, so why should i have to deal with it? Why should i let that crap run in the background? I'd rather just flash something that's completely "naked" from the start, and install and modify the things I WANT and need, not what Samsung want, or Sony, or HTC etc.
Granted, Sony isn't that bad when it comes to their custom skin. It's pretty light, and they haven't given Disco Stu a job as a UI designer (cough, Samsung), so i guess i'll keep my Ultra (soon to arrive) pretty stock in the beginning, and just install Nova when i've had enough of Sony's launcher. When i'm sick and tired of the whole Sony experience, i'll move on to CM.
CM of the past is gone?
i agree, because its moving to the future... cyanogenmod inc. ftw!
I do understand what the OP trying to say about the past. Because we needed so much modification to the software to make the phone run smoothly, and Android was very fragmented when it came to finding apps for your purpose. I had the HTC Desire PVT4, and my dad PVT1 with S-OFF and it was so much fun! This was when Android and the community was at it's best!
But today Android is more stable, it runs more independent, It's a lot faster. BUT what I get from it is the clean look, the speed and stability.
And I get my chance to customize my phone to my taste. Not how SONY want it, or HTC want it or how Samsung want to brag about their animations and proprietary apps. If someone tries to make a phonecall from my device, they can't..because they are not familiar to the look of my device and that's a good thing because I have a taste. I don't want the guy on the bus sitting next to me or behing me to have the exact same UI and wallpaper as me!!

Hi all
I'm sorry xerox but after hard playing on asphalt 8, i get this result.
And your result is take when the CPU is tested with a stress test, not in real utilisation.
So keep the alpha
Its up to you. I've had all the Sony line up (ive had pretty much all Android flagships except the Alpha, which I just bought last week). The Sony will heat up and after use for 4-6 months beit from charging overnight or playing games and the back will become loose meaning it is not waterproof. the phone will still work though so that's up to you. I just did not like the loose back which Sony have only fixed on the Z5. Another thing is if you do wear skinny jeans the phone does start to creak after a while after being under stress from you moving around.
I love my little Alpha and build quality is brill. Both phones are really snappy but I prefer developing stuff for Samsungs with Exy chips.
This is all from experience and not someone who hasn't tried the phone. I do like the Sonys though and have development quite a few ROMs for them

Hello thx for the opinion. I need to ask in terms of performance , camera, and th and build quality screen etc you still preffer Alpha?
The display on the alpha is an amoled type which is good for viewing under sunlight and in normal place i think it produced unreal color(I always switch to basic mode) but the Z3 has an Ips display which is not really good under sunlight but in normal place i think the color is pretty decent(Prefer the z3).The performance of the snapdragon 801 is better than the exynos on the alpha(prefer the z3).The camera on both is pretty decent and can capture 4k video(prefer the z3).Both have a 32gb internal memory but the z3 has an expandable memory card(prefer the alpha 32gb is enough for me).The alpha use touchwiz which has full of bloatware and it use alot of ram,the z3 use sony UI which has very little bloatware and lighter than touchwiz (prefer CyanogenMod). Dev support for the alpha is suck because it use exynos processor (no driver plus not alot of dev use the alpha) and the z3 has tons of roms to flash beside there are alot of dev keep developing a rom for that device .Both probably get an official android marshmallow update from their manufacturer. For the design I prefer the Alpha design(Cus I've use the Z1 compact before and the design on the z3 is pretty much the same). The Alpha has fingerprint sensor the Z3 doesnt, the z3 is waterproof the alpha doesnt.Decided by your self

Hi
For me the Alpha is in the best 2014 phones.
Good photos,
VERY VERY GOOD performance with his octo core Exynos 5430 processor ( For me Exynos 5430 is besser than S801 )
The screen is very good for a 720p and the built quality is excellent, no cracks or shocks after one year.
You can make your choice
Like my note 7 had so many features , such as place phone face down to silence call. Or keep phone screen on by looking at it etc. This phone just seems really barebones. Even tho it's very snappy. I think when note 8 comes around I'll switch. I wish I could get those aforementioned features

I like the Lg G5 massively over the note 7 just for the wide angle camera alone. Keeping the phone screen on while looking at it is possibly the worst gimmick ever.

I wish it did have the screen stay on feature when watching a video on Facebook or whatnot where you gotta move the screen once in a while to stop it from dimming. Yeah the note 7 was a failure and it also was a slow phone (Snapdragon model) but this phone having the same chip runs a lot better. Must be better optimized. The note 7 cam does beat the main cam on this phone tho, it also took HDR pics super fast. Pros and cons to everything.

No, I love the G5
Let's get this clear the G5 has the face down silence option, and if it's packed with features, u just have to look for them in the settings, and beside all that the wide angle lens is the most innovative camera feature ever on a smartphone, what would u do if u had a pixel ?
Coming from Motorola, Lenovo, and Huawei phones, and just looking at stock settings on the G5, I'm pretty impressed by what LG included. Just to be able to change global font and theme without root would've been revolutionary to me not that long ago. Granted, the LG store is relatively young/limited -and I've no idea where it will go- but it's a promising starting point. 360 wideangle live wallpaper with wideangle camera lens to make your own (eventually), drag-and-drop touch button settings, multiwindow, shortcut key commands, as small a detail as battery percentage preference... Many of these things we're used to as root mods, and in that sense they may be boring, but to have them as part of the stock basis makes me look forward to expansions of customization in the not-too-distant future, if not by LG in their store, then by the enthusiasts in this realm. It's encouraging, far from boring!

good news!
the high-lighted features from sony website are really not the as BIG as the article says, becuase all these features have been implemented for a long time with Chinese mobile phone manufacturers since Android 10....
i'm wondering if my Xperia 1 III will get a better battery life by updating to Android 12...
I'm waiting for this update because the truth is that the Battery Life of the Xperia 1 Mark III is terrible. 2% battery drain in IDLE with the screen off. I Hope they improved this.

Workaround for Google's broken microSd access
The LTE + NR71 combo it uses for NSA 5G drops a lot and can take minutes to recover.
I'm using old versions of apps to not hit Google's Nov 2021 mandatory migration to SAF for microSd. Google's SAF is so broken that apps only lock up or crash using it. Some phone makers are providing an SAF bypass setting that gets them Google certified without permanently losing microSd use.
In SONY website about the Android 12 update they never mentioned Material U in the feature section, can anyone who upgraded tell us about Material U and how many Sony apps that supports it

System color palettes do not change based on your wallpaper, everything stays blue. Everything else is in Material U design as on any stock android 12

Thank you for sharing this info but unfortunately that's a bit disappointing, I was expecting a better implementation from Sony
Can someone share a video or screenshots or recordings etc.
Actually I'm still on Xperia 1 but would like to see Sony's Android 12.
Can someone comfirm any changes for camera app with A12? Or improvements in picture quality, especially in low light? There have been rumors that picture quality in basic mode (point and shoot) will be more similar to other flagships out there with A12, which sounds like a sort of nightmode.
I upgrade it Android 12 and really bad. Sorry guys nothing new...
@Mazellat
What do you mean with "very bad"? Related to the overall experience or that there are nearly no changes?
Performance is same with Android 11 and battery performance improved especially for phone is sleeping. But there is no Material U like Pixel phones.
I will make a screen video for you...
@Mazellat
Well that would be a bit suprising with the sony-launcher in place - don't think they'll update him before 1 IV to support Material U. If they do concider to do it...
The improvement in battery life seems intresting. maybe we can get some more juice out of it.
Can you take a look if the camera apps are updated / have different versions then on the last Android 11 build.
Here is the small video...
no wifi calling again? such a shame
