FC on Google App - Galaxy S6 Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently just received my Samsung Galaxy S6 edge and had set everything up but as soon as I update my Google App to the latest version, it force closes. If I go back to the version of the app it came with, then all is well. Is there anything I can do to fix this problem?

Yeah I have this issue currently and it's crippling my phone. I can't even use my phone at the moment it's that bad. just constant fore close warnings one after the other. Need to somehow figure out how to fix it.

Yeh my phone was unusable and I couldn't even factory reset through touchwiz, it would just hang on shutting down . I had to hard reset through recovery. Seems alright now.

I also get a lot of fc on google play and other apps shutting down randomly.

Mine has been working well after the update. Try clearing the data then uninstall, reboot, and reinstall.

Same issue here. Running Only1 base. I have to clear app data every week or it gets stuck repeating the route from the state I was previously working in. The map directions are accurate, but the voice keeps saying to turn on a road from the previous week. Over and over and over again. Crazy.

Why don't you guys use a NAV app that doesn't need data connection? I've been using CoPilot Live Premium and haven't had any problems whatsoever.
Same here
Hi!... same happening here.. Happened with Epsilon ROM... then with WanamLite 12.0 it worked ok for a few days, then it started repeating the route over and over again =((
No solution for this??

Same problem, Galaxy Nexus VZW on JellyBean, was having the issue on ICS as well. Did an uninstall/clear cache...worked for a while, and then started repeating again. Only thing that fixes it temporarily is clearing the app's data.
Happens to me once a week. Go to applications in settings, force stop maps, clear data, and reopen maps/nav. Problem solved. Its getting very annoying though, to do this once or twice a week.

I had the same problem on the Team Perfection ROM, in addition to it not using my Ivona TTS voice or speaking street names. Clearing cache and data didn't help, neither did an uninstall and reinstall from Play. What DID work however, was installing an older version apk I found (which kept FC for some reason), and then updating that version from Play. (Sorry, I don't recall which version it was, but I downloaded it from Aptoide.) After that, everything worked perfectly again. I noticed other people complaining about the same problem in Play's comments section. Really strange, but at least it works again for me.
Settings > Language & input > text to speech output.
Changing this to Pico TTS fixed it for me.
This has been happening on my phone (Verizon Galaxy Nexus on 4.1.1 JB AOKP build 2) on and off for a few months now, it first started happening right before android 4.1 Jellybean was officially announced. *It was at that precise time that the voice for Google Maps Navigation changed to be the same voice that Google Now uses in Jellybean. I remember there was a period of time where I would hear both voices like they hadn't finished converting all of the speech over to the new voice. It's been ever since then but this problem has been happening, I have noticed the clearing cache seems to sometimes stop it from happening only to return again randomly.

Does anyone here know why my stock map flickers and cause force close in stock navigation. I'm on a custom rom and was wondering if it was the rom or the stock map app. Can anyone help, because I love using google map and navigation.

Galaxy s4 stock not rooted running 4.3
If I open a email in gmail and there is a email address in the email section I click on it and it freezes and causes android system to force close.
If I uninstall the latest gmail update and perform the same action it brings up a new email like it's supposed to.
Anyone else having this problem?

I just tried what you are talking about and mine opens up a new email like it's supposed to. I am stock unrooted 4.3 MJ7 Verizon.
Just wondering....have you tried a power cycle or battery pull to restart the phone and see if that fixes it? Not trying to insult your intelligence ....just trying to help...I sometimes forget about simple fixes :0
Hope to hear what you did to fix it.

I assume you have your stuff backed up....
I softbricked my S4 once and I was all but ready to submit a warranty claim and get it replaced then I tried one last thing which was the Verizon Software Upgrade Assistant....you know the software that shows up as a drive when you plug your phone in via usb on your pc......well I went into that and told it to do the recovery thing which wiped the phone totally clean........and when the phone restarted I jumped for joy when it displayed the Android Widget with a progress bar on the screen when it was REINSTALLING 4.3 .
Something along those lines would be worth a try if you got your stuff backed up and you are not worried about loosing any root.
I am pretty sure it was the Verizon Software Upgrade assistant and NOT Samsung KIES (which I had installed also.)
You see I have removed them both from my pc and want to make sure I give accurate information so I want to BE CLEAR that there is a chance it was KIES that I used.
Someone on here should respond to confirm which one does what it did for me...wish I was 100% sure and because I am not I don't want to say for sure which one it was......BUT IT WAS ONE OF THEM and like I said the Android Animation showed up with a progress bar when it rebooted which is the same thing one sees when installing an OTA update.
I hope this helps. I know how it is to be in computer hell or the equivalent.
Just me $.02 worth.
-Sam
It just seems to happen with the latest gmail update from Nov 25 if I uninstall update it works fine

Hi just wondering if you had any luck on resolving your issue. By chance do you have that Knox software installed or should I say enabled. I don't use it and have it totally disabled as much as one can while being on stock unrooted version of MJ7.

I'm not sure myself why that fc pops up for some and not others but I think there is an Xposed module just for getting rid of that particular fc. Probably worth a try
- Sent From My G3
Yup, same here. It didn't start immediately post-root. I've tried completely defrosting all apps in TiBu (I've not deleted anything) hoping one of 'em was the culprit, but no change. Freezing Google Play Services eliminates the error at boot, but also causes issues with Hangouts, among other apps.
EDIT: After a number of minutes after rebooting, the message does go away on its own. Perhaps a issue with some app loading sequencing?
I used some sort of Xposed mod in regards to this Gapps Crash so far so good I've rebooted a bunch and it hasn't come up. Odd thing is the mod said it was for a display at 240 DPI. Not sure what the G3s is but yea lol..

Yeah, saw that module, but it noted it was for the Note 2 running, as you mentioned, at 240 dpi so didn't install it.
Definitely install it still. It took away the Gapps Crash at boot for me ?

Ding Ding Ding! Well done...unfortunately. I really don't like the stock keyboard, and have tried about every other one in the play store at one time or another. Will try a re-install.

Constantly Crashing

I have an issue that I cannot pinpoint the cause of figure out a solution to. Maybe someone here can help.
My Sprint G3 is always crashing and rebooting the launcher (phone doesn't turn off, just closes evwrything). I'd be in the middle of any app and it will randomly close every single app. The running apps page always displays after every crash. It's as if too much ram is being used, but it will happen even after a fresh phone restart and launching something simple like WhatsApp.
My phone is rooted via the Stump one click method. I don't have any type of rooted mods enabled, only Adfree. I use Nova launcher (paid & updated).
Is there some sort of event viewer that will log the activity of the phone so I probably someone here can see what might be causing the phone to crash? I'm tempted to Unroot and restore back to stock... But if I can avoid that, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Maybe it's Adfree then. There's a special version that some people are using. It's in it forum somewhere. I'll see if I can find it.

Thanks. I've reverted my adfree hosts file and uninstalled it. But I think the issue persists. If I try to use any app that clears cache, specifically Clean Master, when it's doing the scan of apps it'll crash midway through the scan. If I go to system settings > Apps & wait for all the downloaded apps to load the details, it'll crash there too.
This is the oddest thing.
Edit:
This visual may help. It's a video of me running Clean Master & seeing how it just crashes. I can replicate this issue every time like this, but the crashes are random when using other apps.

Ok, so I began uninstalling some apps that I thought may have been the issue... Which they weren't as the crashing still continues. I decided to reboot under safe mode and the problem occurs there too.
I honestly cannot recall if this began before or after rooting with stump. I may have to Unroot & factory restore. =/

I'm at a loss... The 2 things I mentioned can be the culprits, but not for you I guess. Some other ideas?
Did you uninstall Stump after getting root?
Have you froze or uninstalled any system apps/ priv-apps?
It might even be Nova is having issues.
That's all I got.

I would try a restore to stock as the final option. If that doesn't fix it then I dunno man.

Tried to unroot but the phone doesn't move past the "Firmware Update. Do not unplug the phone..." screen after holding Volume Up & plugging into the computer. I installed the drivers before hand. But the "CDC Serial" doesn't update. I attempted to manually update the driver by browsing for the folder, but no go.
I may end up having to go to Sprint and exchange the phone for another one.

TL;DR version = Yes, I did fix it. Factory restore did the trick.
A few days after my last post the phone wasn't as bad as the video. It would still crash and reset but mainly after heavy app usage or when trying to clear app cache using any app like Clean Master.
Once my storage reached about 40% used and I couldn't clear the cache, I began to get constant Play Store error messages. No apps would update. I think it was error 483 or something close to hat number.
Since I couldn't flash back to stock because the drivers wouldn't install, I gave up and tried a factory reset. I nearly sh-t myself bc once I confirmed the restore, the phone didn't want to automatically reset per the instructions. I pressed the button multiple times and nothing. I pulled the battery and when I turned it back on, I got the initial screen with the "powered by android" and then black. It did not wanna do anything. Pulled battery again, same outcome. It left it for maybe 10min and still nothing.
I was ready to go back to sprint and see if I could exchange the phone. While researching the closest store, the phone beeped and the initial android setup screen appeared. This was about 25min of waiting on a black screen.
The phone is now back to working order and it's still rooted. There must have been a corrupt file that was erased/restored once the g3 decided to behave.

Congrats!
My G3 is crashing in the similar manner as the video you uploaded.
Except that it only happens when I'm in office connected to office wifi with almost no cellular reception.
On top of that, as far as I could tell... only two apps are causing the launcher to crash... the game Clash of Clans and LINE.
Very very strange....

Icon in the top left corner stops working

When I first boot / reboot it works fine. But after a little time, no matter what app I am in, pressing the icon in the top left corner (left arrow or 3 lines) stops working. I'm running an AT&T V10 so I'm not rooted. No idea what is doing this. It stops working in every app.

I figured out what it was and tested it with some other people. If you're having this issue, then I can almost guarantee that you have the latest updates installed for Facebook Messenger. Uninstall that app (or revert) and your problem will be solved. It was happening on my S6 Edge as well. r
