[Q] [Hima][Stock Rooted][AT&T]SD CARD - AT&T HTC One (M9)

During making a root and RUU Update(Camera OTA) process, the data on my SD card seems to be corrupted, where my Music/Images isn't being recognized, but its using up the space it had to...How to retain back the files to the normal state?
I made a encryption on the SD Card within the Security column of Setting and later disabled..Is that the issue?

Probably. Did you make a backup of the rom you were using when encrypting it? Maybe load it, copy files, and format sd.

[Q] new sd card question, do i have to do anything?

If i change out my SD card, do i have to do anything to reprovision all of those folders there? Is anything "critical" stored there?
If i want to flash a new rom, do i just follow same procedure (have sd card in phone, use disk drive and transfer, flash from cwm) ... or is CWM gone after i remove the SD?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=919859 this thread seems to apply, but I wasnt sure if there was any diff with the TB.
Thanks!

Just make sure it's formatted FAT32. You can copy all your stuff from one to the other without an issue. Some ROMs store stuff there, but usually nothing real important. CWM is on the eMMC, not the SDcard.

[Q] Special procedure for exchanging microSD cards?

Hi, question, I want to change my microSD card, but that's of course where I installed my ROM (UnNamed) from and has other information that I've stored on it so far from the phone.
Can I just copy all the files from the first SD to the second or would this not work? And would it affect the ROM if I did so? If I switch microSDs do I need to reinstall the ROM from the new microSD? Thanks.
No worries about switching your micro sdcard. The rom zip file is like an installation file. Once installed, the rom does not need it for it to continue to work.
Just save the files you want to keep.
Unless you changed it, the default save location is the internal sdcard, not external. To make sure shut the phone off, and take the micro sdcard out. Boot it back up and make sure all your files are still there.

What needs to be on the microSD card?

I want to redo my phone like I just got it. I'm going re-flash everything with either the stock rom or a custom rom. What needs to be on the original card? Like starting from new without all the cluttered folders and random files.
I have updated ie. Hboot 1.5, radios, 2.17 and S-off still.
You should make a backup of your SD card "its always nice to have a backup"
--Side Note--
Also I suggest making a nandroid backup before backing up your SD card so you will have a copy of a recent nandroid in your SD backup incase you have to restore it one day.
--End Side Note--
""Warning"" if you do this and still have applications on your phone/current Rom that have placed folders/that are linked to/on the SD card you could experience force closes, app freezes etc. To fix this uninstall and reinstall the application.
""End of Warning"'
This can be done via Windows 7,Vista,xp.
Format your SD VIA pc/laptop and restore it to the factory defaults. Then put it back into your phone. Then boot up. Once booted into your Rom hit menu then choose settings. Then scroll down to "SD & phone storage" and tap on it. Then unmount the SD card. Then format the SD card. Once its done formating it will automatically mount the SD card and place the correct folders on it. Reboot afterwards and you should be good to go. Hope this helps.

^^^^ What he said.
If you are going to do a factory reset or a rom flash, you should be ok wiping the card. If you were to try to wipe the card with the current rom you are on, you will run into problems as all your apps will freak out when they see their data missing.
And you don't need to have anything on the sd card from the start. Wipe the card, then flash your new rom and put the card in, android should format it properly the first time. It will just add the required folders/paths that it needs.

Apps in SD card not visible after factory reset of phone?

I was trying to root my HTC One V and i unlocked the bootlocker, however that resulted in factory reset of my phone.Whenever i installed an app on my phone i always moved it to sd card via settings-->apps.I assumed that once my phone restarts after factory reset it will read the apps in the sd card but it is not so.The phone does read songs, pictures and contacts stored on my sd card and the sd card does have the folder of each app but how do i install it from the sd card?
one eplerger
The stock android move-app-to-sd does not move all app data to the sd card and some data is left on the device on purpose.
I might be wrong (since I never researched this) but I think you cannot restore those apps.

Okay
But is it possible that if i install the same app again,it reads the application settings from the sd card?Like if i download and install a game,is it possible for the game to read my score from it's folder in the sd card?
If the app is storing this kind of information (settings etc.) on the sd-card as a separate file then I would say that it is very likely that it will be able to read that data.
But not all apps store that kind of information on the sd-card (security reasons etc.).
I am not sure what happens to the parts of the app itself that are still on the sd-card though (I am talking about the app itself). I guess that the app will not care about those if it is stored in the internal storage. Moving the app to the sd card will probably overwrite the data on the sd-card. If the app stores the settings etc. in one of its own files then it might be overwritten as well.
You might want to make a backup of those files, even if you can't use the information in the end. But if they are gone they are gone.
Some really crazy idea would be to download the app, move it to the sd-card and then overwrite the files on the sd with the ones from the backup.
If android has no verification or security methods for this and there was no update to the app there might be a small change that this will work.
But I guess that the chances to get all your settings and user data back are still very slim as those are possibly not stored there.
But if you have the backup and some xda user swings by with a good idea (or more knowledge that me) you can still try that.

Samsung Encrypted Memory card help to Decrypt

Hi all
I have a Samsung S20 Ultra with a memory card that all of my photos are saved to, unfortunately I had to take my phone into Samsung experience store for a screen / back cover repair, the staff removed my Memory card and told me to factory reset due to GDPR as the device had to be sent away, when my device returned in the post 5 days later I went to put the memory card back in and a notice appeared stating the memory card is encrypted to a different device! I am totally devastated as there are pictures of my father who has passed away and other images that they are the only copies I have, I know now I should have unencrypted the memory card before the factory reset. I have spoken to Samsung directly so say there is nothing that can be done.
does anyone know of a way I can get round this I would be so very grateful!
Thanks in advanced
Stu
The best thing I could suggest is a third party solution that may be able to decrypt the information on the card, such as FeExplorer. Check to see if you have a "Decrypt SD card" option in the Lock Screen and Security settings, although I suspect it won't be able to do it.
The problem is, the encryption key is unique and stored in user data. When data is wiped during a factory reset, the key is wiped as well, so even if the user configures the same lock settings (password, pattern, etc) they key would be different.
I am not aware of an absolute solution, but here is what I would strongly suggest you do:
If able, make sure the contents of the card are backed up. Use cloud storage such as Google Drive.
Keep the card in a safe place; maybe put it in a small envelope or something, and mark it in such a way as to discourage accidental discarding or wiping.
Buy a new SD card to use in the meantime while you look for a way to recover the information on the encrypted card.
I am sorry for your loss, and I wish I had a better answer for you.
Edit: Found this on another site, maybe it's worth a try. MAKE SURE YOU BACK UP THE DATA ON THE CARD IN CASE THIS GOES WRONG.
On a PC: Copy (the encrypted and unreadable) contents of the sd card from the phone to your harddrive
On the phone: Settings -> Storage -> Sd Card -> Format sd card (this erases all the data on the sd card but don't worry you have a copy on the PC)
On the phone: Settings -> Security -> Encrypt sd Card (should be real fast since it's an empty sd card)
On the PC: Copy the contents of the sd card onto the phone
On the phone: Settings -> Security -> Decrypt sd card (edit: this may take a while depending on how much data was on the card)
sorry but none of the above "solutions" makes any sense. it is not possible to recover data. encryption key was located /data/misc/vold and /data itself was encrypted, too. Furthermore one can't access /data aka userdata partition.
BUT... and here comes the but.. adoptable-storage usually is DISABLED in One UI
So how is it possible your MicroSD Card is encrypted at all? It's not, except you have installed custom ROM or installed any 3rd party encryption tool (you would remember)
There is a good chance your MicroSD Card is plain exFAT or Fat32 unencrypted file system. I recommend to use a card reader for PC and make a 1:1 dump with gddrescue and analyze the dump with photorec or other file carver solutions.
There exist tools for windows too, for example
https://www.klennet.com/carver
https://www.z-a-recovery.com
https://www.runtime.org
Don't buy any software if your MicroSD Card is encrypted, it will definitely not work.
You can easily check if your MicroSD Card is encrypted by opening raw disk image with HxD hex editor and search for any plain text or series of zeros. gparted or testdisk will tell you if partition table exist

when you put an SD card into a Samsung ultra it asks if you want to encrypt it through their own software, no third party apps were used
True, I realized after posting. Samsung is always bit special, they tried to think differently... In that case your data was lost in the moment of factory reset.

Hello, have an experience that my samsung device were dead and my sd card still encrypted.
Firstly, you have to backup entire data on your sd card just in case.
And then, format your sd card using another device (maybe your another android).
Last, put your sd card to windows device and recover all data with DiskDigger software.
It's work on my sd card, give it a try.. Dont forget to backup all data
