I have a c6806 xperia z ultra gpe. Whatever I throw at it, it just boot loops.
Fastboot, flashmode, the original and custom recoveries are working. The bootloader is unlocked. I am not sure if it is rooted.
I have tried:
1. all the custom roms.
2. reverting it back to the stock rom.
3. PC Companion (it says no updates were found)
4. different recoveries
5. different kernels
The end result is that either it hangs at the boot animation, the boot animation boot loops, or it gets to the beginning of updating android apps and then reboots. I don't get any further than that.
I have read through all the threads and I don't know what to do next.
Any ideas?
Is your phone the GPE or are you trying to put on a gpe rom?

It is a true GPE phone.
For fun I tried this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/xpe...p-5-0-boot-fotakernel-images-t2960269/page3):
Code:
fastboot erase system
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot erase boot
fastboot erase FOTAkernal
download DoomLord advanced stock kernel with dual recovery for 4.4.4
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2579005
fastboot flash boot ZU_GPe-AdvStkKernel-KTU84P.S1.3061-v03.img
fastboot flash system system4.4.4.img
No luck... Still bootlooping.

If you're rooted with recovery you can flash a kernel via rashr app. As for the bootloop I would go back to stock and try again. I've never owned a true gpe ultra so I'm not sure on it.
Boot Loop [A deadly issue] after lollipop update - z ultra
Below my friend is very much right. Now below is the my experience in as possible short words i can.
Actually i bought this few days ago for my parents as for gift. i already did make a hell of effort to find in the market. i have search websites, sellers, and carefully select what model i am going for its the standard version C8602. now i have kind of impression that the phone has errased and courrupted my sd card which i took it from my note 2. i wasnt smart enough to take the back of my sd card. Anyways. and i was thinking not to go for lollipop upgrade, but in case my parents accidentally update the phone and they find any issue, its better i do. And geeze lollipop surely looks okay, but when i put the charging cable for the first time, i have discovered strange thing happend, my settings all have gone, phone brightness, and blue tooth is on and perhaps more which i don't know.
and it kept on happening. now matter i reset, this or that solution, took my whole week end to solve this issue, i live in guangzhou, life is very fast here, people usually throw the electronic gadgets if they find any problem, as i am a student, so money is always hard to earn. so i spend that much time fixing it. by finding the help on youtube, sony forums and xda. but i have only discovered few people are complaining about this issue.
now i have to buy a phone, and send it for my parents, in next week time, either i buy a new one and send back to my parents living in another country, or i fix this and send back to them after testing everything is working fine.
now i am pretty low on motivation. i know sony is not good at software. and the last way is XDA. to seek help. i remember NOKIA and MOTROLLA used to create these type of problems for their customers and they didnt care to fix it, infact an attitude issue. And that caused them out of business. i will be sorry to see if SONY get out of phone business. unless SONY do something about it which matters. well i warn sony, i have been living in china for about ten years now, and i have seen chinese brands and companies developing. at now xiaomi, Huawei and others are catching up very fast. its very sad to see that international brand with their product meet issue, and the problem hasnt been resolved at yet. Guys at Sony, please do something fast about it. its not my phone. i probably buy a new one and i dont care about a little lose, but your business and phone venture could be in trouble, because of loosing credibility everyday. i still have found samsung is still going Ok with their phones. i have been using note 2 for quite couple of years, and it has been performed least on top level still today compared with any other top flagship.
last night i have decided tomorrow i will put up a post on XDA for help and if i didnt get support, i will buy another phone and never look back on sony phones. i am sorry for this. cause i cant invest more time looking on internet how to fix this. i do tell you i have tried pc companion, and other stuff. if any one here knows how to downgrade or any way, i can least put the phone in working condition. i will be greatly thankful.
Thank you friends at XDA

I can't use any apps because the phone is always rebooting.
I can however flash kernels through the custom recovery. But still it reboots.
I am starting to think the main board is shot.

Isn't that a port of his GPE rom? It looks like it is for non-GPE phones. Can I actually install that on a GPE device?

It's a standard port of gpe rom yes. It being a gpe rom, why wouldn't work on a actually phone it was ported from?

That would mean that I could install other Ultra Z ROMs that were not GPE specific.
I know that the GPE cannot use the FTF files.
I don't mind trying but I don't want to make it worse...

According to this thread the two phones are different enough that it would brick it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z-ultra/help/gpe-zu-rom-gpe-zu-t3081868
Also, I followed the instructions here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2761698
This one has the best results, after Android loads, I can use the operating system for about 10 seconds and then it reboots.
I think something is wrong with the mainboard.

So I attempted to get my phone from Paranoid to back to stock but I completely messed up. I basically restored my phone to CM 10, then I tried to relock my phone from there. So I used this video:
youtube.com/watch?v=5yS7yy4XVA4
and now I have fastboot with no rom and no recovery (also everytime i reboot from fastboot, it goes straight back to it). If anyone could help, what should my next step be? it would greatly be appreciated.
If you locked the bootloader you will have to unlock it first, then flash recovery and a rom. Did you unlock manually or with regawmod?

Yeah, I'll agree it's happening too often but all aosp ROMs are still in pretty early development despite working as well as they do
I actually got it back unlocked (manually) but to get back to sense, what would you suggest?
You still need to flash twrp if you haven't done so and for a bare stock rom there's stock with goodies and there is another one with out
I've tried to put a new rom on phone after installing cwm. The 3 different jellybean roms that I've installed will not load up. They all stay on the loadup screen and never finish loading. I never had any problems flashing previous phones with CWM. Anyone's help would be appreciated.

He used Rom Manager. Like a bad bad little boy. Or at least that's what I'd put my money on.
No
I just installed CWM and flashed the Roms. I've never had problems with other phones with this method. I followed the original post completely and the first Rom I tried was the cyanogen 10.1. The phone wouldn't connect to Kies to update either on 4 different systems with different operating systems. I ordered an unlocked S2 from Amazon and taking this one back so the problem is resolved.

I have seen this on a few different roms. After the rom hangs on the loading screen go ahead and reboot the phone. If that doesn't work flash a different kernel, and try to boot. If that doesn't work let me suggest Shostock 3. Try that rom. I have never had a problem flashing that.

And because this phone isn't other phones, you can't use rom manager with it. It's a nono. And there is a sticky about it. And many threads. And posts. Warning about it.
thanks
Guess I should have tried that before restoring my cwm backup and ordering a different phone. I needed an unlocked phone anyway LOL.

Let me get this straight. So you:
1. Decided to flash first and look later, using a method that "worked on other phones."
2. Didn't search the forums or even look at the stickies to find a solution to your problem.
3. Gave up and ordered a different phone rather than taking the 10 minutes it would take to easily get yours up and running?
Wow. Just wow. Tell me this; what phone did you order as a replacement?
I wouldn't say that I searched the forums and flashed the roms the exact way you are supposed to for the phone. This isn't my first andoid and I know pretty well what I'm doing. The phones inability to update with Kies or take a new rom pissed me off. It was worth the extra 70 for me to get unlocked phone anyway. I ordered an unlocked S2 9100.

1. Kies generally only works with stock unrooted phones. Use Odin instead.
2. The phone has no "inability to take a new rom" if you do it the right way.
3. Apparently you don't know pretty well what you're doing.
4. The i9100 works exactly the same way as the i777, and if you try to use Rom Manager on it, you'll end up with the same result: a phone that won't boot.
5. AT&T will unlock an i777 for you if you ask them.
6. Just read the damn stickies, particularly this one and this one.
This thread is full of win.

Hi,
I've seen a few people with this problem and I've tried a few solutions, but here we go. Earlier today I took the phone out of my pocket and it was on the splash screen, rebooting it didn't fix it. Taking out the battery didn't seem to do much either. I can not get into recovery mode ( I'm holding power, home and volume up and all it does is constantly flash at me ).
I can get into download mode and I have tried flashing a stock Rom onto the phone, from the samfirmware site: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/3/?download=15332 this goes through the motions what appears to be successfully. But when I restart the phone I have the same problem and I still can't get into recovery mode.
I am a complete novice at this, the phone is still under its warranty so I was a little apprehensive to flash any other firmware but I fear that the phone may well be bricked. I have looked at this thread but as the Odin Flash hasn't technically failed I'm not too sure. I have downloaded the JellyBean leak to try and flash but again, I'm a little apprehensive to do so, other than that what are my options?
Thanks.
I bit the bullet and flashed the 'leaked firmware' and that seemed to have worked. Playing with it now, is it worth going back to stock or stick with this? Given its a test build.

Good man! That's exactly what you needed to do. Basically the JB leak firmware will wipe your device as it flashes, which is why it worked for you. As far as staying on that firmware goes, it is quite stable. You could stay on it if you like, or could just re-flash the stock ROM which you downloaded before. It should flash in Odin no problem now that you're booting.

Hey, thanks for the reply!
Its actually my Misses phone. She seems happy with it now and on stock she was getting a "low memory" problem that I think was down to a perpetually generating log. Re-occurred no matter how many times we reset the phone, so I think I'll stick with this Rom to see if the problem comes back or not, it might actually end up being more stable.
Actually considering flashing my G Note now I realise how relatively easy it is!

Always good to get the Misses' phone going again to stay in the good books Actually, the JB leak is still stock.. it's not a custom ROM. It's just a pre-release JB firmware, almost identical to the officially released JB firmware. By all means see how you go with it, as long as you're not having any issues.
Yes, really easy! Nothing to stress over The same process will apply for a Note, you just have to use different firmwares obviously.
XZU Stock was nice , and I love it.
But to explore and test much ROM was annoying using backup restore from CWM recovery.
It's takes too long time if we wipe reset, backup ROM then flash with another ROM, again and again.
There was many thread topics for multiple boot ROM another device,

It's look amazing if we have multiple rom: Stock ROM, PAC Rom 4.3. then Omni Rom 4.4 in one device, like you boot beetwen Windows and Linux on PC.

Nothing as yet.
It's still a new device, so kernels/ROMs/Mods are still developing. My guess is it will take a while for this to happen... probably when there is a lull in Sony updates, and dev's get board.

Yeah, i think so.
I testing with Boot Manager Pro, then XZU was not recognized, i try manual set up.
But, the problem was boot.img from stock rom can't backup, another rom can't install
Hope someday, someone develop abilty to multiple boot it. :good:
Don't really need some special help here, just want the device to function again no matter what way. (Don't care if it's factory reset completely it has nothing on it I was just using it for a bit of experimenting).
So anyway, I have an HTC One x that I tried to install Cyanogenmod mod on but when trying to flash it (I was a bit impatient and just did what I thought would work), it didn't work and I'm stuck on the HTC Boot screen. I can still restart the phone and get to the recovery menus or whatever they're called. But even when doing a factory reset it still just won't get past the boot screen.
I'm just someone who has a good love for android and got given this phone for free so I thought I might experiment with rooting and all that, (I don't want to do this to my main driver, the Z1, for the life of me).
Any help here would be great.
Thanks

If you had just used htcdev.com to unlock the bootloader and are still S-On, you need to pull/extract the boot.img from the CyanogenMod zip and install via fastboot.

You're welcome. Pretty common issue when people are getting used to how it works for HTCs.
Pro Tip: If you want to simplify the process, you can use this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cgollner.flashify and install the boot.img with the phone while booted, then boot to recovery and finish the rom install. Recommend doing a nandroid recovery first, just in case the boot,img/rom combo does not work properly, otherwise if you flash it first THEN do a backup, the new boot.img will be matched with the old rom and might cause issues upon restoring if they are not compatible.
Alternative: S-Off. Depending on which hboot you are on, you should be able to do S-Off. It can be a bit of a pain to set up, but once you do, then you can install roms just like normal as the boot.img will be able to be flashed from recovery along with the rom like in most phones.
