I'm having trouble with an OTG adapter (Deltaco USB-70-K) which simply doesn't want to work anywhere. I've tried it on a Samsung GS3 (with custom ROM), a Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro (rooted), and a Samsung GS4 (not rooted) with different USB flash drives and gamepads. None of them were detected and it doesn't even seem they get any power from the devices. I have also tried with multiple OTG detection apps.
Is it safe to assume the adapter is (for some reason) bad? Or am I missing something obvious?

Hi guys, could need some help, please:
I just can't get a picture from my S3 (neither YouTube, Homescreen, nor movie from SD Card) to show on my LG HDTV's screen... Any idea, why?
Just in case you're wondering...
-- I do have the latest/correct Adapter for the S3 (Model code: EPL-3FHUBEGSTD/Original Samsung bought on Amazon)
-- I have connected the S3 charger to the Adapter
-- One side plugged into HDTV, the other into the Adapter, and the latter plugged into S3.
I think that the CM9 Nightlies (RC2) just might not be up to par... (??)
Can anyone confirm it's actually working with your International S3 (I9300) and XpLoDWiLD's version of CM9 ??

I can confirm this on the Cm10 nightlies.
The mhl adapter works fine on Samsung-derived Roms, just not the CM ones.
I wonder if a different kernel would help? I plan to try a few later...

i have this exact same adapter and can confirm it working perfectly fine on samsung roms. I have posted a similar thread on getting it to work with USB OTG here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1836822
I believe there must be something in the kernel to enable HDMI output (seeing as i get a "HDMI cable connected" notification) as well as switching into USB Host mode (and thus providing the adapter with power). It has been suggested that among the 11 Pins in the new Galaxy S3 port there should be 2 separate USB Ports, one to be used for charging, syncing, data cable, MHL, etc, and one to use for USB OTG while the other is in MHL mode.
I am hoping for new insight into this matter, since this would empower the device greatly. Together with the superior hardware, this would definitely be a killer feature.
+1

It says it works with the GSIII, nothing about the original note though. On Samsung's website (not the mobile) you can check if the unit is compatible. The 717 is not compatible.Think this might be due to the BT4.0 and Miracast on the GN2.

The GSIII & Note2 have 11 pin Micro USB ports allowing Synchronous MHL & USB use. The Original note (International and LTE) only has a standard Micro USB port. The smartdock might, allow for charging & normal USB device usage (flash drives and Human interface devices), but don't expect to be able to push the display to the big screen.

Don't even think it will do that, I got one of these today and tried it with my S3 and it was a no-go. Must need support in the firmware, since the S3 has basically the same internals and the same micro USB port.
Hi all,
Imagine: you come home from work, place your Galaxy S2 in your docking pad or station(or w/e its called), turn on the 23"+ monitor and start surfing the internet, listening to music, watching videos/movies - with your docked Galaxy S2 - as a 'PC'
Does such a device exist yet? The dock I'm asking for handles(or should) the following:
- the galaxy s2, charging while docked
- the hdmi monitor
- the usb2.0 keyboard + usb2.0 mouse
- 5.1 or 7.1 audio speakers system
- ethernet port (preffered)
or something similar to this - with the above list - for galaxy s2: http://us.aoc.com/monitor_displays/e2343fi - note the: "with built-in iPhone®/iPod® dock."
Sorry if this was asked before, I've searched but no match. Similar thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1441993&highlight=docking+stand

You will never find a dock which allows HDMI and USB simultaneously. MHL simply doesn't work that way. Only one (either HDMI out, or USB) can be used at a time.
You'll need a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse to achieve this

something similar for galaxy s2? (or s3)
that one works for s3, but it seems the usb slots will not work, hardware limitation on phone?
whats the difference that note2 has and s3 doesnt have, that lets the usb work on note2 but not on s3?
edit: ah, I see, link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_High-Definition_Link#11-pin_MHL-USB_Connector

Yes, I should have been more clear. 5 pin MHL on the i9100 does not support simultaneous USB & HDMI. This is a hardware limitation.
Note 2 and Galaxy S3 have 11 pin MHL.

going offtopic a bit, it seems the s3 11pin is not backwards compatible, so not really MHL, but proprietary(to sell s3 specific accesories), link: http://www.galaxymhl.com/ ... original thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1836822
back ontopic, could the samsung multimedia dock be used with s2?
PS: I hate that I'd have to purchase bluetooth kb+mouse just for that

There are many versions of "the samsung multimedia dock", for many models of Samsung phones. You'll need to be more specific.
And no external dock is going to change the fact that the i9100 has a 5-pin MHL connection, which still will not support simultaneous HDMI out and USB.
As for the off-topic, there are adapters you can get in order to plug an S3 into an existing 5-pin MHL adapter.
EDIT: here's one direct from Samsung.
Hallo,
I used to use an MHL connector, before I flashed up custom roms. But now I do not use S2 as primary mobile and I wanted to use it like a Chromecast. But suddenly the MHL connector now do not work, I have tried all stock Android versions (4.1, 4.0, 2.3) and none works. Is there any possibility that it is caused by the version of the rom (country)?
MHL isn't (and most likely will not be, due to certain sources not being available) supported on AOSP-based ROMs, only on official 4.1 and below.
You might try Chameleon if you want an AOSP-like ROM with Samsung base (where MHL works correctly).
Thanks, I will try. But now I flashed Stock XEZ 4.1.2 it writes "Connected to HDMI" when I'm charging the adaptor by external battery, but from wall still nothing. But still no image...
Make sure your adapter is compatible (I have an MHL adapter which works fine with S2 and some Xperias, but not S3...). External batteries might not be enough as well, try using a microUSB charger/connecting the USB cable to your TV if you can.
S10 lite specs say, it's equipped with "2.0, Type-C 1.0 reversible connector". I'm confused. So which generation of USB is that? Does this "reversible" have anything to do with OTG(hosting) ability or is that just an indication that it can be plugged both sides?
I'm diggin into this topic because I'm looking for a docking station, for my S10 Lite, with some USB 3 ports and HDMI. I was wandering if some docks aimed for computers will do. Like this one for eg.:
http://https://greencell.global/en/startseite/1954-docking-station-adapter-hub-usb-c-hdmi-green-cell-7-ports-for-macbook-pro-dell-xps-lenovo-x1-carbon-and-others.html
Wouldnt bother
Hi i really wouldn't bother with a dock for this phone while you might be able to get basic OTG support for a USB stick as storage that's about it, this phone has no USB 3 support, No DEX, and no HDMI output capability. just realised this myself and i'm gutted thinking about returning it for the A90.
Ok. Is hdmi/dex support hardware dependant then? No chance for hdmi with some ported rom? My previous handset had no otg support with stock firmware and then I foud out OTG was there when flashed some lineage or stock rom ported from a newer phone.

OTG maybe, HDMI afraid not the Galaxy s10 lite has a USB 2.0 port not the 3.1 port required to output a HDMI signal. The A90 is cheaper has and exactly the same specs apart from is 6gb ram instead of 8gb and has a 3.1 USB port with full dex support plus it has 5g, not entirely sure why the s10 lite even exists and really wished i had researched more before ordering
There is a multiport adaptor listed on the Samsung store, @deanstead2k18, have you tried an HDMI adaptor and it doesn't work?

I dont have the phone anymore or I would order one and give it a try, as far as I know it's not possible I tried several different multi port adapters with hdmi and none of them worked I even got an on screen message saying it's not supported. Traded in for an s10 plus and all the multi port adapters work perfect
Hmm - I suspect that the thing on a Samsung website is a misprint then honestly. Thanks for the info.
