m9 annoyances - Sprint HTC One (M9)

Some thinsg that have been annoying me with the m9:
1.) No matter how many times I turn all motion launch gestures off, a few days later they all come back on.
2.) The weather on the stock clock/weather widget is often just wrong, despite being set to update once an hour. According to my phone it is pretty much raining 24/7 everyday.

A major annoyance for me although more with the HTC Browser then the phone is every time I touch the screen it zooms and shrinks and is all over the place. Practically impossible to read and scroll through an article. I guess I could just go back to Chrome but I always liked the stock Browser better until now. I like pinch to zoom but if I aint pinching then quit zooming for crying out loud. Tap to zoom is ridiculous!!!

Hmmm, HTC Browser is working fine for me. It's the only browser besides Opera Beta that it zooms properly to a column of text.

biggest problem of all
constant data drops... flakey radio..
i found for me in my area using the .17 radio has helped but its not perfect.. its time for an urgent firmware OTA there sprint...

Many apps refuse to work over LTE, that's a big one. The software was not ready to be released, it was rushed

Okay let me see... signal is worse and drops a lot more than my M8, battery life is worse so far, I can't go back to KitKat and avoid the Lollipop glitches, camera is awful, and speakers seem quieter than the M8 but a bit clearer I guess. M9 in a word: Meh.

Look we get it. You don't like the phone.

[Q] Transformer Prime Concerns?

Transformer Prime: Not sure if some of these issues are only isolated to me or everyone experiencing these :
1. I added my gmail and I have about 2k photos on there. When I open Gallery it takes like almost 10 mins to sync. The gallery in general seems to be very slow. Anyone else?
2. At times the screen starts jumping. The only way to fix this is restarting the tablet.
3. The browser is very slow sometimes. Comparing to my phone and computers.it takes almost twice as long.
I have an ipad1 and I'm an android maniac, I really want to love this tablet but every day there seems to be another issue poping up. I'm sure CES will announce some more quadcores soon, I'm in love with android and I like TP but I am starting to reconsider holding on to this since I still have another week to return it. What to do....?
Yeah, the Android Gallery is kinda of sucky and slow, but its not a Prime problem since its that way on nearly all Android Devices. I hope ICS improves this.
The stock browser is also a little sluggish, but I heard this is a known problem in Honeycomb. Once again ICS will hopefully be an improvement.
I have not had any screen jumping. There was an issue with the ASUS boot logo jumping around during boot, but the last firmware fixed that. However, doesn't sound like that was the problem you have described.
You may want to contact ASUS on this, or exchange it. It should definitely not have the display going funky.
Other than the screen issue, you might want to hang onto the Prime until ICS goes out. Honeycomb was a half-baked release anyway caused by manufacturers complaining to Google about not having an iPad competitor version of Android.

Search for the browser thread where the OP lists a few tweaks to make to the browser through the debug menu. I swear, it makes it like a completely different browser. It's completely smooth. That thread should really be stickied, if you ask me.
mine does none of that with the exception of the sometimes slow browser but to be honest i think that has more to do with my network and whats getting priory at the time since sometimes it's really fast and other times it's very slow, i downloaded a few torrents directly on to it and all went well and was as fast as expected, also netflix doesn't stumble at all either which makes me think the tablet is good but more of a problem with my bandwidth......800 meg movie file took about 10 mins on my 30/30 home connection with other computers running torrents and streaming netflix on the smart tv, so heavy network usage at the time.
but no shaking of the screen or other issues, and pic gallery's load fine after the initial visit, make sure you have your caching turned on in your browser and that your not downloading 2k thumbnails every time you visit the site, or at the very least i'll just say this sounds like a settings issue as opposed to something wrong with the tablet from the factory, maybe also set it up where it only sync's every so often or something, not sure how your setup works but you shouldn't need to be downloading 2k worth of thumbnails and/or pics everytime you log on to something, play with your settings and see what you can come up with....also snych'ing porn always take x3's as long unless your pretty quick if you know what i mean....lol j/k
that said, this is just my experience in the last 4 days i've had this tablet and spent about 6-8 hours a day on it so far.............feels well built in the hand to me so i don;t expect any defects to start showing up from nowhere that aren't related to software in someway or another.

mine was less smooth to me after the tweaks so i reverted back to default settings and seemed fine again, my understand was the tweaks only helped the responsiveness during the loading of a new page, i could be wrong but that's how i read it, regardless give the new settings a shot , worst case you just revert back like i did.
also play with the synch settings in your gmail account.
those tweaks don't work for everyone. plus it gets reset everytime that browser shuts down. then you have to do that stuff all over again. Opera mobile is your best bet. even with those tweaks, people who tried it said it can't compare to opera mobile. only drawback is flash is sketchy on opera till it gets updated.

Interesting. I'm not sure why they don't work for everyone, but they work great for me. The OP updated his original post after he saw he gave the wrong settings at first, so if you haven't visited that thread in a while, it might be worth checking out again.
Also, my settings do not revert every time the browser is closed. The Debug menu disappears, and I have to type about:debug to access the debug settings again, but when I go in there, my changed settings show up as being saved.
And the settings don't just increase the speed of loading my pages. It makes pinching and zooming, as well as scrolling, much more smooth.
All of this will be moot next week anyway once ICS is rolled out

right, i wish everyone would quit judging this thing till ICS comes out, i get the GPS rants as that won't improve with ICS, but 90% of other complaints should be addressed by ICS, it's just sucks waiting, but doesn't suck as bad as having no TF201 in my hands all together..better to have a prime with gingerbread now and get an update the no prime all together, the only way i'll be disappointed is if CES unvailes another tablet with the same specs but more ram and it ships in the next 2 weeks, lol, don't see that happening, so i'm sticking with mine..
return it and wait for something better next month.
and then wait for something else even better the month after that, and then the month after that.
price/performance (unless GPS w/o wifi is a huge concern for you) there is nothing out there in the near future that will be better than the prime.
the gen1 tablets have shown that asus offers the best bang for the buck.
also, if you want the dock experience, there is nothing that competes. not even the glorious touchpad. :|

Exactly on the tweaks. I gave up on that with the Xoom long ago. Face it, the Honeycomb browser stinks period. You want the best (not perfect) experience, go with Opera until ICS comes out. Flash? I have to actually say that Steve Jobs was right on this one. If that is important to you, try to get over it because it is going away. Opera does work with Flash but I do not know what the limitations are.

I already miss honeycomb..

I got my Transformer Prime earlier today (about 2:00pm to be exact) and I've been screwing with it all day. I love the way it feels and it made me very happy. The whole day I had also been postponing the update...
but I did it. I already miss the looks and feel that honeycomb offered. Yes, the ICS update may bring out the hardware a little more, but why did they "downgrade" some of the niceness of the GUI? The thing I liked about HC was that it felt different. It was a unique tablet OS that wasn't like anything else. Now that it has ICS, it feels like a bigger version of the ICS phone version. Long pressing home screens no longer brings up that convenient, pretty menu, but now just asks for the wallpaper location. The app drawer is no longer transparent and doesn't have that "fade" animation anymore, which I really liked. The home screens now have an unnecessary "dot counter" at the top and the default clock isn't the pretty blue one that I liked anymore. I feel like my first experience with the tablet is now history.
To top it off, the camera feels uglier and takes longer to snap photos. The flash is also messed up, because now when I take photos with the flash they are extremely bright and too white. Before, they would simply be brightened up a little bit.
I know some of this stuff can be fixed with app installs and stuff, but I really loved honeycomb and now I feel like the tablet isn't the same.
I agree whole-heartedly. I never expected to be saying it because I had been convinced by all the hype of how awesome ICS would be. Unfortunately, now that I've updated, I'm realizing that its no upgrade- lots of games/apps no longer work and the UI is only a shadow of its former self (see previous post). Hopefully someone will find a way to get these features to us, before we have to seek the next tablet.
SCOTT
I'm just hoping when the bootloader gets unlocked that someone makes an optimized honeycomb ROM. I know I'll be installing that for sure..
I think Asus rushed ICS on to the Prime. All the lock ups, freezes etc. Other than that I'm a fan of ICS. Honeycomb is an eyesore compared to it.
Well on top of that, all of the other stock apps seem to be downgraded as well. The calendar no longer has the nice coloring that it had before, the camera is now an ugly gray gradient color and is slow to take pictures, the lock screen no longer "ripples" and doesn't have the sleek animation that it had before, the homescreens now require more distance to swipe through (which is bad for me since I like swiping the corners a lot), the settings screen is all jumbled up, the clock is ugly, the gallery is now 2D and not as "nice" as the old one...need I go on?
ICS is such a downgrade for me. As soon as that bootloader gets unlocked I'm reverting to honeycomb right away.
I find the changes to UI in Android 4.0 as the best thing Android could have done. Native apps look sleek and modern, the sci-fi'ish/TRON coloring of UI itself is perfect for the culture it represents without being a bother for regular users.
I really, really love it.
But people are different, so it's interesting to hear some still prefer Honeycomb.
I love the style of ICS as well; the light blue / gray coloring is awesome. I'm just saying I really loved the black / blue honeycomb a whole lot more. It felt so much less cluttered and it felt "cooler" to me. Now I can't go back for at least a few more weeks
IcS OS the best thing to happen to Prime. Plus it was built for it anyways. People forgetting device was supposed to originally with ICS anyways. Yeah the long press feature on-screen of HC is missed but ill be OK..lol. too many people wanted ICS. ICS did fix alot of issues and speed things up nicely. If we would still be stuck on HC everyone would be crying about it. Plus ICS is the universal version. So phone version supposed to look similar. More n more benefits of ICS will show itself as more updates come. Probably with next update due anyday now.
I know what you mean and I agree with you. ICS definitely is a step forward and it was made to unify the platform and make everything better. My point is that I loved the way honeycomb felt and this is a little less nice in my opinion. Also to be honest I feel like it's slower now..but maybe I'm doing something wrong.
EDIT: Forgot to turn on "Force GPU Rendering" in development settings. It's super smooth now..like really smooth.
I'm glad I disabled my update. I was seeing all the problems people were having with updating to ICS. I think I'll wait until the bootloader is unlocked and we have a working CWM so I can do a nandroid backup before flashing any upgrades.
I'm so glad I've seen this, I thought I was the only one who preferred honeycomb on the prime.
Ics on my sensation = pure awesomeness
ics on my prime = just not as cool

I like it better (ICS) but where did Riptide go?
All I know is that when I pick up my original Transformer and use it for a few minutes, I'm missing the Prime pretty immediately--and ICS is one of the reasons. I just don't like Honeycomb...

I bet the Asus engineers scrambling to figure out the ICS lockup issue and hundreds of Primes owners with $500 paperweights would disagree with this.
Is it possible some of those pretty things in Honeycomb were Asus additions and with them trying to rush ICS out they didn't add those things? I agree, that I thought Honeycomb felt much more refined. I don't dislike ICS though.

Yup, ditto.
Just experienced my first lockup/freeze on ICS in the car today. Was testing the IPS+ brightness boost and when I turned it on, the device became unresponsive and rebooted after a few seconds.
There had better be a firmware update quickly, or the unlocked bootloader at least.
EDIT: The camera also now has a flash issue. If you use the flash to take a picture up close to something, the flash will make the picture extremely bright instead of just illuminating the photo; honeycomb did not have this issue. Former macro shots now look like flashbangs.
The only thing that sucks in ICS versus HC, at least in my opinion, is the garbage Gallery app in ICS. In HC, the folders were alphabetically ordered, and you could toggle between viewing only photos or videos. In ICS, the folders a completely random mess that cannot be properly ordered, and the video/photos toggle is gone. This is more on Google than Asus, as the gallery is equally crappy in ICS on my Galaxy Nexus, but it's annoying nonetheless.

Exactly. I know ICS is a great step forward, but it destroyed most of what I liked about honeycomb in the first place.
EDIT: Second lockup just occurred a little while ago while I was looking for an app on the Market. Ugh..
EDIT 2: Another lockup, literally 10 minutes after I turned my device on in the morning..went to select the camera from the lockscreen and bam. THEN, while it was rebooting, it locked up DURING THE BOOT and went back to the splash screen. This is kinda messed up.
Just had two lockups in a row within a 20 minute period. One in the music player, the other in the market (that makes two or three lockups I've had in the market alone so far).
I know everyone is having this issue but jeez..it's happening so frequently.
EDIT: Another lockup by loading up Barcode Scanner for the first time. Yes, I'm kinda using this thread as a way to keep track of my lockups, but maybe it'll help somehow.

So is this going to have the same Multitasking issues as the One X?

I'm not in the mood to buy a new phone that is worse off than my current one. Since none of the reviews mentioned it for the One X, I don't expect them to bother looking at it for the EVOLTE. Any news on this?
Same concern here.
Also seems as if the SGS3 is following suit with the same aggressive multitasking system.
dont buy it then lol
im still getting it. people love to ***** about the smallest things.

It's an issue to people who aren't on XDA & feel it's an issue.
Not worried about it. Root, Custom Kernels & a Custom ROM will be dictating how aggressive the TK runs.
I think most people don't realize that it's probably more of an ICS issue than an OEM one. When the Galaxy Nexus first came out people were complaining about the same thing, but you don't hear much about it anymore with the update to 4.0.3 and 4.0.4.
My Evo 3D with the ICS leak (4.0.3) doesn't do this so I'm not to worried about the Evo LTE doing it either.
I have a loaner Evo lte and it doesn't seem to have this issue. I started playing a video on youtube, then jumped to the browser. I surfed the internet for over a minute, and switched back to youtube. The video was on pause. Once I hit play it restarted where I left off. Then after watching the video for more than a minute, I switched back to the browser. The webpage did not reload and displayed what I was previously viewing. Seems all good to me.

I really liked it. My current phone is the Evo 4G, so I'm a little out of date. The screen is amazing, as expected. The phone is quite a bit bigger which surprised me. Not too big by any means, but definitly bigger than I expected. It's nice and thin and feels more sleek. One thing my wife mentioned was that the machined aluminum edge felt 'sharp', like maybe it needed to be deburred or rounded. It wasn't a compliant, just something she noticed. I had no issue and thought it felt great.
The camera was very nice. It takes pictures very fast. One slight dissapointment was the time it took to turn on the camera when pushing the manual camera button on the side. I expected instant readiness, but it took maybe a second or so. The onscreen camera button launches the camera faster.
I actually like the multitask button. It instantly popped up the app screens and rolled back the previous app. Kinda nice that it doesn't start on the current app and require you to scroll back. My current Evo now seems slow having to hold the 'home' button. I kinds miss the menu button. The menu in differnet apps can be on the bottom, top, or not have one. I found myself hunting for it sometimes.
That's all I can think of now. I had to give it back Sunday night. Overall the phone is great, and I can't wait to get my pre-order from sprint!

For real. Why are people complaining so much? How long have we had ICS now? If you don't know your menus and settings by now, don't even bother complaining here.
General users, yeah, more understandable, but not us. But still, if something isn't working right, check your Settings and see if you can change something. Is it really that hard?

If the two of you were staying on top of this story, you would know that checking this doesn't help. Even with that option checked, HTC has changed the settings within the kernel to kill open tasks at a much more aggressive rate than ICS normally would, in order to allow sense to be smoother. They just pushed an update to the international version that helped, but the issue is still there. Personally I don't think it's a big deal, but it is something that can't be changed through checking that item off.

Input lag issues

Hello guys, new to Android and sorry for posting this but I searched Google and the HTC one forums and I haven't seen anyone or heard any negatives about slow downs or input lag here and there like I have been experiencing with the One.
Every review I have read has praised the One for the non-existent lag and that everything seems very smooth.
My problems: Tapping URLs or text boxes sometimes require 2-4 presses.
Browsers seem a little sluggish scrolling around.
Has anyone else felt lag or input/touch response problems? Any tips or tricks to alleviate these issues?
Thanks so much in advance..

If you are coming from an iphone, you will notice input "lag". Its not that the phone lags compare to iphone, it is just that it takes more movement from your fingers before it scrolls. I use both iphone and android so I notice it a lot. Also scrolling on android is still somehow not as smooth as iphone. But mainly due to sense not being as smooth as a pure AOSP rom.
Hope that helps

I have that experience with the stock browser. I'm using chrome and it's not as noticeable. I think the input issues is a software bug. It happens to me with the home button, back button, and sometimes in other apps. I've had just about every android and iPhone 4s and 5 and the other android devices (note, note 2, HTC one x, etc) not the same issues. It's irritating

Ah, yeah I am coming from iPhones.. I mostly notice it in text boxes having to repeatedly press a link, url box, or any other input box.. I feel like maybe the sensitivity is lacking? I played with my friends galaxy s3 today and the ui seemed quicker as well.. do I have a faulty unit? Love the phone otherwise ..

This is an odd issue, and one I cant say I have. Have you tried another browser, such as chrome or chrome beta?
>Browsers seem a little sluggish scrolling around.
Still probably browser related, though the only browser that seems to have most of this worked out on android is firefox, and even then it's not nearly as smooth as iOS's webpage scrolling. I have no idea why.
The only thing I could think of would be to try other browsers and see if you like one more than the stock. Android has always had a subtle amount of touch lag, and custom UI skins seem to make it worse. touchwiz on my note 2 was almost unbearable. I haven't had much of a problem with it on the one so far though.

I am using the chrome browser right now. For instance I had to click refresh 4 times just now to refresh.. it's inconsistent and happens when it wants to.. I also get this when entering new contacts like when editing contact's name.

That's weird as hell. may I ask what build it says your on? I have noticed that the sensitivity seems to be turned down just a bit compared to some other devices I've owned in the past, but I adapted rather quickly to making my presses more deliberate. I don't really find it that troublesome, this may or may not be because I owned a droid 2 (god that thing was almost as bad as resistive touch screens when it came to sensitivity, I will never complain about a touch screen after that thing.).
This is a ****ty solution, but I'd say just learn to press a little more deliberately, and hope that it is indeed a software issue and that CM 10.1 fixes it when we get a build out for our device.
But maybe it is bad hardware on your end. Go into a store and play with the display unit, see if maybe it doesn't have it. Then you can just ask for a replacement.
Strange. I use the iPhone and different Android devices. And so far with the ONE I am not getting the lag and slow down I see at times with older Android devices. My stock Nexus 7 gets lag bad at times.

my build is 1.26.502.10 CL166754. I will try to make it to a AT&T store to play with one soon.
Hi guys, I wanted to give you guys an update. So yesterday I finally got my 64GB replacement... It was a faulty screen i had and for some reason it felt slower like lag issues. The new one is a night and day difference. HOWEVER... Now my 2nd one is plagued with slight gap issues on top and bottom which isn't a huge deal to me BUT.. ontop of that I have one dead pixel.. geez.. This is very sad as I am Taiwanese and I was hoping to support HTC.. Horrible QC.. Should I try my luck? Only problem is that I don't think stores are stocking the 64GB models... ugh.

disappointed so far

Hi, Apologise in advanced for a rant but, surely I cant be the only person having issues with this phone? I have black version, in UK with EE. I decided to not get the iPhone XS MAX for this, last year I had the iPhone x it was super fast and efficient. But so far ive had this device 48 hours and im guttered i bought it so far. Im having a lot of issues with fps drops, if I have apps open it goes slow, for example Pokemon go, I find just spinning the ball starts making it lag, compared to my girlfriends s8 and my old iphone, its just constantly feeling unsmooth and dropping frames.
Sometimes the keyboard lags if I have a few apps open, with the specs inside im unsure how it can be failing this bad and lagging for me. Im actually close to sending this back to EE within 14 days, if this doesnt get fixed I cant stick with this for 2 years...
Ive seen a few people talking about performance mode within battery settings but I dont see this, I also dont understand why when im on the phone, notifications arent popping up sometimes, I also have this stupid notification that I cant get rid off, about showing notifications on screen or something.
At the moment, not having a good time at all, is anyone else feeling the same? my version is EMUI 9.0.0.108(C432E10R1P16)
I just dont uderstand how a phone for this cost with the great specs it has can be failing for me so much when multitasking. Especially when watching everyones YouTube videos before launch its running perfectly smooth... I just dont understand it. Maybe its my device? Maybe its just because im used to quick and effecient iphone/samsung devices and this is lacking
Anyone else having issues?
EDIT: I don't understand why, but since making this post, I've had absolutely. No issues with the device, its ran super smooth exactly as it should. In my opinion, pokemon go has ran perfectly. I love this phone, I don't want rid of it and it has so much potential, but I need this performance consistently, not just sporadic where its good for a few hours then suddenly bad again, I've since learned I'm stuck on update 108 apparently there's already a new one out but not with EE yet, maybe they've fixed some. Issues, I couldn't find a change log anywhere
Don't see any of this. I am used to using iPhone (although not X) for work and 20 pro is so much faster
I wish it would be understood that software must settle after first setup for a few days 3-4 avg. Same goes for after a reset
You saying that is slower than S8 is VERY worrying as that phone to me was considerably slower than S9+ or Note 9 and both S9+ and Note 9 were still pretty slow and laggy for me (and a lot of dropping frames) I was expecting an upgrade in terms of speed from Note 9 to Mate 20 Pro :/. Fastest phone I've used is Oneplus 6 and it was waaay faster and smoother than Note 9.
I'll let you know next week how mine is. Did you by any chance do a clean set up (installing and configuring everything from scratch) or did you use the app/feature to clone everything from previous phone?
Same thing here
Occasional keyboard lags, touch latency lag, that annoying notification
Apart from this it's a very good phone
I really hope we can achieve root at some point soon, as now I've got this all setup, I'm starting to miss the additional features root offers....
Clean install, it's weird and this probably sounds so dumb, but when I'm outdoors on pokemon go it feels choppy compared to indoors... However maybe it's not the phone and its an issue with pokemon go. Pubg ran fine, bare in mind you can only. Use low graphics until a later update haha.
I also heard a few people saying that for some reason over a few days it gets better so see what happens

Yes I'm finding lots of issues with software too. Which is a shame because I love everything else. I'm not finding too much lag but I have notice when YouTube is in PIP things do lag.
The camera app switching between wide and telephoto lens is very laggy and hangs... It even sometimes hangs when taking a picture
3rd party launchers are pretty much a no go, there either crash and don't work at all or work with some bugs.
I sometimes get notifications for WhatsApp etc and where the body of the message is suppose to be is blank
I'm finding apps are being closed a lot and not utilising the ram.
So your not the only one, the software has a lot of jank.
Apparently the 108 build isn't the latest and theres a 202 build that's suppose to be the official release version and fixes things. Im going to wait and see if this drops in the next few days and see if it sorts it out

Theres a good chance pokeman hasn't been optimised for emui 9 or the kirin 980 yet
I also got from EE yesterday and am slightly under whelmed. However i haven't had any keyboard lag and the phone for the most part has been fast. The facial recognition had however been hit or miss, the 4k video is abysmal and FHD isn't too great either. My previous htc u12 seems to have a much better camera for both photo and video although the Huawei had more options. The most annoying thing so far is the slide down on home screen that brings up the search bar. Rules out any scrollable widget (Google schedule or bookmarks) s it keeps going to the search function while scrolling. Going to test the camera properly at a gig in the week alongside U12. If it isn't better, it's going back I'm sorry to say. It does charge very quickly though.
The charging is fantastic, super fast... The weird thing I done a benchmark with antutu it got the top device for benchmark literally number 1. So no. Doubt the power is within the phone it just has to be the software. Again sounds dumb but since doing the benchmark the phones been perfect. Very. Smooth no. Issues it's just so hit and miss sometimes it's perfect, other times slightly slow. I noticed with the wide angle camera it. Lags when changing too
Just switched from my old S8 and I'm absolutely stunned with sleek performance of M8 20 Pro. Got my black mob from ee. However once updated I've switched Nova on and removed some unused apps. As previously said I'd performed factory reset and check all once again.
Wait for the final os update and for apps to catch up. Keep the phone for 3-4 weeks and if your issues aren't resolved, just return it (guessing most of you have a 30 day return on it). Just stop whining like children about resolvable software issues.
I had the P20 Pro and loved the hardware but hated the software. Lots of small bugs and annoyances everywhere so after some months I could not stand it anymore. Very tempted by the Mate 20 Pro but am afraid I will hate the software once again

Sorry but it's not whining like children. The software should be polished and work flawless just like the hardware. There's will be updates but no guarantee the bugs will be fixed

with EE as I opened a new contract I only have 14 days, im hoping it turns out well im loving it, its just the issues I mentioned above, its weird, because sometimes its amazing, since I done a stress test on an app and a benchmark its been performing better, its weird.
Sometimes its the best phone ive had, sometimes it just lags and feels like the worst.
I would love some updates before 14 days to reassure me as I do like this phone. I was more interested if others have the same issue
Same boat here pal love the phone but the software is a let down also a lot of stuff missing like AI cinema scan thing.

I know. It should. In that magic place where unicorns taste like rainbows.
But we live in reality, where no phone comes up without bugs. For example, name me a phone that came out this fall and didn't need a patch after release to fix bugs?

Yes we also live in a reality where some people don't want to spend £1000 on a product that doesn't work properly, and lose the opportunity to either get money back or try something else on the off chance it might be fixed in the future.

Have to agree the phone is great but the missing software features (ai cinema, 3d scanning) are annoying. Neither are essential but when a product is launched as including them and a fair chunk of the launch event was devoted to showing how they work id at least expect them to be present!
I've been using the phone for 24 hours and my feelings are mixed. I love the design and size of the device, battery is amazing but the software seems like prerelease.
I've had random sound pops when the phone is on silent, can't use launchers properly with the gestures (stock launcher is terrible), no notification settings for gmail so I can't see how many unread emails I have, no thought on how notifications will show with the notch and zero customisation of the status bar to make more space, it's like the notch has wiped out a feature of android displaying your notifications, no video effects, seems bad to me that review units had it to sell the phone but its not on retail units. I know updates will come but they have to be checked by the carrier which could take a while. At this point I'm not sure whether to stick with it or admit the phone isn't for me.
