[Q] Time and Weather widget lag? - Galaxy S6 Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey Guys,
I've been tinkering with my S6 Edge (64gb Black Sapphire) the past few days and noticed that after unlocking / minimizing an app and swiping back to the home screen, my Time and Weather widget (stock) lags. It doesn't really take a long time (max I've seen it lag for is around 1 sec) before it appears but I was wondering if it's normal with Android / Samsung devices or if it's a defect with my unit.
I still have a few more days left before my replacement period ends so I wanted to know if it's normal or if I should have it replaced. Thanks in advance to all those who'll reply.
Also, if you have time, kindly check the other thread about another bug I've encountered. http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6-edge/help/lock-screen-taking-advantage-super-t3094656

What you're experiencing is called redraw and it's quite common to touchwiz. The solution for that would be a third party launcher.

Thank you for replying. Already installed 1weather and am using its widget.
Was just wondering if you know if the other bug I'm encountering is normal as well. It's the one linked in my first post.
Basically I noticed that the pure black wallpaper I have for my lock screen is lit up. The same wallpaper has super amoled blacks in the home screen and when I view the photo I used for the wallpaper in the gallery though. The preview shown when setting the wallpaper shows that the lock screen should be pure black as well but that isn't the case.
I'm still unsure whether it's being caused by the same bug which causes the night clock bug or if it's a defect with my unit.

Possible Fix
I was having the same issue. I was fooling around with different possible solutions and seem to have resolved the issue by disabling the city location setting in the stock clock/weather widget on the home screen. I have not had this issue since disabling that setting. I do not travel out of my home town so I will only turn that setting back on when I travel. I hope this helps you and that you receive this reply, since you posted in April. Let me know if that helps.

[Q] Auto-rotate on home screen stopped working

Hi All,
Picked up a new SGT 10.1 today on the Staples deal. Well, actually two, the first suffered badly from the dust under screen issue and I returned it, cleaned out two stores in the process.
Trouble is, after the first time I engaged the orientation lock (literally the first time I locked the orientation), it no longer auto rotates when on the home screen. Worked fine for a couple hours prior to that. When I go to the camera app, it rotates (although lags sometimes, but can't tell the cause).
I've tried hard resetting multiple times with two different methods, made no difference. Searched around, found only one other person describing the problem and no solution.
Has anyone heard of this? Is there any app I can use to further test the sensor?
Thanks all!!
P.S. Sorry for the double post in Q&A, I posted there by accident.
Go to the home screen. Once in at home screen, press and hold anywhere to bring up the screen to add Widgets, etc... Click on the App Short Cut tab and then tap the home scree without actually adding anything. All you are doing is going to the App Short Cut tab. Now when you rotate your SGT the rotation will be much faster.
Try your rotation first before doing this so that you can see the difference in speed.
Enjoy...

Here's how to reproduce home screen flickering

For those who are still getting home screen flickering after .14 update and thinking it's a random thing, here's how to reproduce the problem regardless of docking or performance mode:
1. Go to the home screen (you should have a decent amount of apps, widgets and folders on it).
2. Bring up something that overlays the home screen. This includes:
a. Recent Apps on the left
b. ASUS (or Android) Quick Setting on the lower right
c. Mouse cursor (arrow or circle)
(Opened folders don't seem to trigger the problem.)
3. Keep the overlay on the screen and wait. Within 10 seconds you should see a big black triangle on the lower left of the screen flickering. It takes longer for the flickering to appear for the first time, but afterwards you almost always see it after a few seconds.
4. Once the overlay is gone (for the mouse cursor, just wait about 10 seconds and the cursor will disappear automatically), the flickering will not occur regardless of how long you wait!
Hopefully this issue can be addressed in the next update!! It's starting to annoy me.
P.S. The home screen will also show some very occasional black or white horizontal lines flickering. Now I think this one is truly random. Usually you need to stare at the screen for a long time to see it.
** UPDATE **
As I've mentioned in the reply, I've discovered that having News and Weather widget in the screen on either side of the center Home Screen (but not on the center screen itself) will increase the chance of reproducibility. Also, having a lot of widgets and apps on the home screen will also do it. Having more than 7 or 8 apps in Recent Apps will definitely do it.
I have the triangle thing too but only if I have a couple of apps (enough that I can scroll the list) open.
I can't recreate it but I have seen it before
You also get some 'flickering' when you have SD card mounted and some other app is updating an ongoing notification.
It seems to forget it's place and the ordering of the notifications jump around.
Same Bug here...
i can recreate it using texttab and pressing any overlay item. its irritating
I get this bug as well in .14. I don't remember seeing it in previous ICS builds (.11 or .13), but I wasn't exactly looking for it either.
I used to get this just when it was charging in the dock... now its worse.
I've found that swiping away a few apps from the recent item overlay fixes things for me whenever it happens. It's annoying though
Yes I had this issue as well but I did a Factory Reset and re-installed my apps last night and cannot reproduce this problem now. Anyone else?
I've had this bug in every build except the current one. Seems gone for me. Only problem I've (luckily) seen with my Prime.

Before upgrading to ICS I didn't see the screen flicker at all, but now that I've upgraded I see it all the time when I use a live wallpaper
Mine occurs with use youtube & thumb keyboard
Open youtube app, quickly in the search bar, and as the keyboard and the video loads in the background it'll flicker
also as you type

Yes I finally gave in and did a complete data wipe. Initially the problem went away as expected (because the Home screens were mostly empty after the factory reset). After all the apps and Home screen states were restored, the problem came back as before, completely reproducible.
So this got me thinking: perhaps it was one of the widgets, or too many widgets/folders/apps on the home screen that's causing this flickering. I finally narrowed down to just one: the stock News and Weather widget. As long as this widget is on either side of the center home screen (but not on the center home screen itself), the flickering will appear, completely reproducible! Since this widget is not really functioning properly under ICS (no setup screen) so no lost there.
Oh, and that more-than-7-or-8-apps-in-Recent-Apps thing will also produce flickering regardless of anything, but only when you first open it up. Otherwise it works the same as other overlays if other conditions are met.
Now I have to go restore about 20GB of stuff. Factor reset wiped it all clean. The thing is, I could've figured all this out without the factory reset. Oh well.
OP has been updated.

The News and Weather made no difference for me, but the number of items in Recent Apps did. Swiping items out of the list made the triangle flicker disappear from the home screen and from within other apps.
This bug only popped up for me once the jitter came back for me - any and all overlays (including the bottom bar, notification popup, and a couple monitoring apps) constantly move up and down a few pixels. I can't capture on my cell phone because the frame rate is apparently in sync, but this video from another poster here shows it:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cIO2LBMG-dc&feature=youtube_gdata_player
I really hope Gary and Asus will address this issue shortly.
I sometimes have a flickering and screen freeze during games like Reckless Racing 2 or some other too. A workaround is to go back to homescreen then and close the app where it happened.
Not sure if it's the same problem you guys are talking about.
Got still the 9.4.2.11 build here in germany. This never happened to me in the last weeks, but since 2 or 3 days I got it a few times while running games (without the dock).
The .14 update has greatly reduced this issue for me, but there is still a very brief flicker when showing the recent apps menu if there are a lot of apps in it
same problem
I always had this problem. I did factory reset once and the problem remained. After the .14 update, i still have the problem. Really really really want to have the problem solved..But thank you so much for telling me how to reproduce the problem
can't reproduce it either, but i still experience it once in a while. a minor bug, but still among a long list

Lockscreen issue - grey blacks (more so at sides)

Hey, I got another issue yesterday. When the "ripple" (water) effect is active in the lockscreen options, the wallpaper basically lightens the right side of any wallpaper selected. If the wallpaper happens to be a pure black wallpaper, the lockscreen actually displays a GREY image, with a lighter shade of grey on the right side of the screen. It works fine though on the homescreen if the same image is selected, which is kinda odd. Mind you, it was working perfectly before this.
Also, today I noticed some "loophole" that allows me to select live wallpapers in the "home and lock screen", which I could not perform prior to this. Trying to change the "lock screen" though, does not give me the "live wallpaper" option (which is the normal behaviour).

yup i noticed this also must be needed to create ripples i mean the water needs to bounce off something right? loljk
it's only on the lockscreen with the ripple effect active.

No. Previously it was purely black, it only happened yesterday. =.=|| When you first get the phone, these issues are not there. I already owned the phone for 18 days or so.
EDIT: nvm, just realised you put "loljk" there >_<
bump still having this issue even with XXALF6 update
I'm gonna bump this as it just happened to me as well. Any fixes?
I think it's on all phones but you guys didn't notice
No it wasn't there when I first got the phone. I had a black lock screen without issues for a moment, and then this issue popped out of nowhere. Problem still persists until now. It only happens in the stock lock screen and not for widget locker etc.

The problem just randomly popped up for me too. After about a week of working properly. pretty strange problem.

Same Problem Exists
I'm bumping this too as I can confirm the same issue. A fix would be appreciated Samsung.
Seems to be a problem only when the lock screen background is very black. Also same issue, rooted I-9300. But downloading a different lock screen helps (I'm using holo lock screen, which looks like the JB lock).

[Q] Lock Screen not taking advantage of super amoled

Hey guys, I got my phone last Saturday and have been playing around with it ever since.
I noticed that I had the night clock bug (whole screen is lit up) and as far as I know it's already a confirmed software bug. What I also noticed though was that my lock screen is also lit up. I'm using a pure black wallpaper which works well when the phone is unlocked (appears pure black) but the black is lit up when the lock screen is shown. It's almost like there's backlight bleeding. In the home screen and lock screen preview though it shows that it should be pure black
Here are screenshots of the "bug". I'm actually thinking it's a software bug since it was captured by the screenshot. http://imgur.com/a/p5maP (Take note the the blacks on the first image is different from the other 3)
Was wondering if this bug is related to the night clock bug or a defect with my unit.
If anyone is willing to help, kindly try changing your wallpaper to a solid black color and check if the blacks on the home screen and lock screen is different.
Thanks! (I have 4 days left until I won't be abe to replace my unit so I'm trying to make sure everything's good)

They're referring to the Night Clock alone. I have that problem as well as a lockscreen problem. Haven't seen anyone reporting if they have the lock screen problem so I'm trying to figure out if it's a software glitch or a bug with my unit.
Basically the lock screen preview when applying a new wallpaper shows that the lock screen should have super amoled blacks but when I lock the phone the black is lit up.

If there's any consolation I experienced this very problem. Were you using fingerprint to unlock? I hadn't seen it because I had swipe to unlock.
I still haven't figured out how to fix it.

That's normal. This happens because the lock screen puts a slight filter on your wallpaper. It de-saturates the image. You can try with a solid red color, it might be easier to see.

Not, really. This only happens when you have Fingerprints/Pattern set up as your Screen lock type.
If you set it to Swipe, with the water droplet effect, there's no "filter."
Someone found kind of a solution to this, but it didn't work for me: http://forums.androidcentral.com/sa...t-rid-dark-filter-lock-screen-wallpapers.html

Yeah it's clearly a bug, but OP thought it might be a defect of his phone. I was just reassuring OP that the problem exists in my phone as well. Thanks for that link. I did try the solution they proposed but it didn't work for me either...
Solution not working...plz another fix?
I have the same bug on my Galaxy J5 (super amoled), I use pin to unlock it. It is pretty annoying. I use the same black picture for both lock screen and background pic, and after unlocking the phone, black backlight turns off. Swipe to unlock solves the problem, but I have to take one of the disadvantages : either backlight or not locked phone.
Download "klwp live wallpaper maker" from playstore and make a all black wallpaper . Save it go to settings ---> background/wallpaper, set KLWP as lockscreen and wallpaper/background.
Not solved? are u using xposed? if so, download Bright Lockscreen and see if this helps.

Question Jittery images in Google Photos galery

Hi folks,
I've got a VERY STOCK NON-ROOTED Pixel 6. It's fully up to date including the latest June update that I took this morning; all apps up to date.
For several days, maybe a week or more (who knows how long, but not more than a month), images in Google Photos appear jittery. These are static photo images, no animation or re-rendering should be needed. but, if I watch that screen, some, not all of the photos in there, look like they are being re-rendered, ever-so-slightly differently (like off by a pixel, back and forth) flickering maybe two or three times a second, on the Google Photos home screen (the one you get as soon as you launch the app, before scrolling and tapping into any particular picture) When the flicker happens, typically the main picture in the middle of the screen and at least one of the partially visible pictures below it will flicker at the same time. If I don't touch it, the flicker sometimes settles down after some time (20-30).
Anybody else see this? It's easy for me to reproduce: just make sure Photos is closed, then tap on the home screen icon for Google Photos. The flicker persists if you scroll down; it's not just the pics at the top that flicker/jitter. Again, it settles down afte some amount of time. It's only this app, not the phone generally, and only for the first half minute or so of using the app before closing it.
Any ideas what's going on here?
I'm curious if I'm the only one seeing this. I'd be interested to hear replies even if it's just "me too" without any ideas for solution.
My present theory, which accounts for it "settling down" over time is that after it loads the visible initial pictures, it's still loading pics below into memory to have them ready for scrolling; this loading action may trigger occasional redraws that cause the jitter I see.

I've been trying to help a friend with a Pixel 6 Pro with this exact thing happening, so it's not just you. (I just checked mine, and while I hadn't noticed it before, I can see it happen on a larger image on my Pixel 6 Pro as well.)
I have pixel 6 pro I don't have that problem I think I found out why it has an update I just checked now
