[Q] Need Help : No Service In Any Of the Custom ROMs - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I am New To XDA
I have a Galaxy S3 i9300 International. I rooted it succesfully and Installed CWM recovery on it. And i tried to install custom ROMS but After installing Custom RoMs I couldnt get Network Signal. Coverage quickly comes and disappears. Sim also not showing. Tried Almost 5 ROMS ( Kitkat, Lollipop , S5 Ported etc....)
But nothing helped. But when i go to stock rom everything works like charm no any problems.
Why cant i get network in any of CuStom ROMs
NOTE: Tried Registering Manually too

@shamuzny: which stock ROM does work for you (build and baseband)?

If your stock rom is 4.1.2 then it is efs v1. You need efs v2 to get signal on kitkat or lolipop roms. First install an official 4.3 rom for your country and upgrade your efs. Then install custom roms that you said.
But IMPORTANT!!! get a clean efs backup of your old v1 incase you want to go back. And after you install 4.3 get an clean efs of your v2 efs too...
If you dont know what i am talking about, make a good search, understand everything and then do it. If you do something wrong there may be no going back....

This is my baseband

@shamuzny: then you should have efs v2 -data. As advised yet, download the actual firmware from sammobile.com, flash it with Odin and make a factory reset in recovery. Then root again and make an efs-backup. Network access at the end of procedure?

Actually I bought the phone from Dubai and i dont know its original country of manufacture
So i flashed it by Sri Lanka"s Firmware which i had earlier. How to find the country of manufacture? Please help me

@boomboomer, will you help a bit?

https://www.dropbox.com/s/f1zbm0tvsvh5ww5/MegaWipe_-_GS3.zip?dl=0
https://www.dropbox.com/s/qzgn1abhr4qcmls/Ultimate_Kernel_Cleaning_Script_v1.0_en_SGS3.zip?dl=0
Download this two zip files first. They will wipe your entire phone including system and kernel as their names.
First flash the kernel clean then flash megawipe via a custom recovery.
Then without rebooting (wont boot because there is no system) hold power home and vol down and get to odin mode. Flash your 4.3 to the phone and see if that worked... if not, dial *#06# and check your imei number.

[Q] Installing CM 10.2 (JB) over stock gingerbread

I really wanted to work this out myself but my time is very limited, I do not have access to a PC so don't want to risk bricking, and I've already spent many hours searching answers and downloading files. I need a working phone ASAP and it's not easy finding a spare in my current situation.
My phone died (battery) while active as hotspot. I replaced battery and now it won't detect ANY sim card (sim cards verified to work). Upon attempting to access mobile network settings: "Insert sim card to access network services".
Also, I'm not sure if it's related or not, but IMEI number is "unknown".
I'm really hoping it's a software/firmware corruption issue that I can fix.
I have tried the following:
Replacing sim
Fight mode
Restarting
Combinations of the above 3
Wiping SD card
Factory reset
Reflashing CF-root kernel via CWM (I think it worked but reboots before I can read log).
Now I want to try flashing a custom ROM. I have CWM installed and I was going to install CyanogenMod. I am aware of how to do this, but...
- I read that attempting to flash a JB ROM over a gingerbread kernel can cause an issue and that I may need to flash a JB kernel before installing cyanogenmod. Is this true? And if so, where can I find out what kernel to flash. I've seen lists, but I see all these numbers and names which don't really mean anything to me. Is there a stock JB kernel that would be suitable, or is any KB kernel fine?
- Does installing a custom ROM like CM not flash it's own custom kernel? Because I don't understand why having a gingerbread kernel should potentially cause issues.
- Is there anything that installing a custom ROM like CM doesn't flash (apart from bootloader)?
- Should I just flash a stable gingerbread CM ROM instead?
I appreciate any info
Cheers

I also flashed modem. Problem persists.

At op do you have a efs bk up?

Flashing anything without a PC nearby is lunacy/asking for trouble. If something goes even slightly wrong, you won't be fixing it without one.

The problem is the unknown IMEI because the phone gets identified my this unique number. If its lost, SIM-Cards won't work. If you made an EFS Backup, it should be easy to recover the IMEI. But if you didn't...it will be nearly impossible.

I'd never heard of backing up the EFS before yesterday, so unfortunately I don't have one with IMEI. I think I have a nandroid backup at home somewhere, would this have a backup of the EFS/IMEI?
If I had it written down, would that allow recovery of EMEI?
Some roms bk up to efs folder so looking in to your sd card you may have one. Flash the nand if not it may restore it. May not though. Worth trying. Have you tried to flash gb firmware with odin as this has for some got it bk.

If I have a backup it will be on my PC or a HDD on the other side of the planet. But I will indeed look for it when I can. I'm fairly confident I would've done a full backup before I flashed a CF root kernel via Odin when I originally rooted the phone.
And no I haven't tried to flash gingerbread firmware via Odin. I don't have access to a PC. But I did flash the CF root kernel via CWM.
Your gonna need to look and hope your have mate or service center job. Local phone shop could prob do it to.
I9100/I9300
Fixed. Thanks stopro.
The phone was deteriorating. Apart from not detecting sim cards, it somehow lost su access. Even though I would allow access it would fail (issue with system/xbin/su). I couldn't even connect to WiFi anymore.
Flashed Dorimanx kernel 9.39
Flashed latest CM 10.2 nightly
Flashed GApps
Flashed modem
Wiped cache and Dalvik cache 2x each
Did a data wipe/factory reset
Booted
All working fine. IMEI number is displayed correctly. WiFi connected immediately (could not successfully obtain IP address before). I had to re unlock my phone to use a different carrier sim (I unlocked it before leaving Australia, but that flashing must've relocked it). Now it is connected to 3G with which I am posting this reply.
Not really digging this JB style, but hopefully I'll get used to it. Happy I've got phone all working properly though.

Restore CSC and Modem after I9300 4.3 Leak Installation

Well, after installing the unstable JB 4.3 Vodafone Germany leak from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1835931, I've loaded my stock ROM I9300XXEMF6_I9300OJVEMF1_I9300XXEMA5 (4.1.2, Egypt) to PDA on Odin and flashed it. However the variants of Modem and CSC did not change from existing ROM with a change in IMEI.
How can I restore stock values for IMEI, Modem and CSC while I don't have Odin files for Phone (Modem) and CSC.
I9300XXEMF6
I9300OJVEMF1
I9300XXEMA5
Thanks!
Go read the stickies in general, in particular efs 'know this stuff'.
Basically you can't go back to anything earlier than EMGX baseband, flash anything later and your imei should be found again. Or you can restore the efs backup you made before flashing the 4.3

So you suggest what to flash to restore the IMEI since I didn't backup EFS? Please refer any guide
Installed back leaked 4.3 ROM and could successfully restore the stock IMEI. I used kTool to backup efs as efs.bin. So I have to wait an official release for my country to be able to flash it without losing IMEI anymore.
the same here

The stock kernel is very poor, try the liteGX kernel instead.
Same here.....but I've installed the IRISH 4.3 ......there's a silly wake up lag, too .....could I change the CSC to Egypt without root..... wishing that the Egyptian update roll out soooooooooooooooon.

[Q] Help needed

hi,
today I had a little set-back while trying to root and flash a rom, phone kept on rebooting in recovery.
So I flashed stock via Odin, but now my IMEI isn't correct and I can't use my phone anymore.
Any suggestions?
phone is I9300
Depends what you did, if you flashed 4.1 then just flash 4.3 to enable the efs to be read again.
If you've corrupted efs then you'll need to restore your efs backup, else pay for a repair.

well, I was on 4.3, and rooted it.
Then I tried to flash a rom but that didn't went well, so I had an old firmware, think I did wrong at that point.
I'll try to flash 4.3 via odin or try KIES to let it fix....fingers crossed
fixed the problem.
I flashed a stock 4.3 firmware via Odin and IMEI was recovered, everything works fine now.
Running on Liquid ROM now :good:

Not registered to mobile network

I decided to flash my S3 I9300 to REVOLUTIONARY ROM then flash it back to STOCK ICS ROM because I needed to test something. But when I boot my phone there is no signal anymore. What should I do? I've seen so many tips but those were mostly for JB roms. Mine is ICS. Please help.

When you go in Settings<About Phone, is your IMEI displayed ?
Flash a stock firmware using Odin and factory reset. The firmware must be EMG4 or later, flashing an earlier one as you've done will result in the efs folder being unreadable.

[Q] cant restore my imei

hi i was wondering if you guys can help me, i have an efs backup, but i cant seem to be able to restore my imei,i tried Ktool, efs professional, nothing seems to work,i should mention that the efs backup was from a Samsung 4.1.2 stock now my phone is on CM11
thanks
I dont know if cm base and sam base modems are same but if they are:
Firs option: many custom roms come without modems to prevent the country issues so assume that your old modem is still installed you can try to install a new cm modem or like i said if they are same a new version sammy modem.
Second option: go back to stock 4.1.2 and see if your imei is still intact. If not restore your 4.1.2 imei see if it is back. If It is back first try to upgrade official 4.3 via odin then install cm 11 with wipe...

thanks for replying, I flashed a patched modem and kernal from a different post, but I got boot loop,so I restored a backup that I made before flashing from recovery, and for some reason every thing is OK now maybe restoring is the silotion.
BTW the backup was made after I restored my efs.hop that helps someone.
In a way you helped me, thank you.

You got bootloop because that modem and kernel are for sammy 4.3 and yours is CM. The backup you restored, is it nandroid backup and is it 4.1.2 ?

no, the backup i restored was from CM 11,thats what surprised me i made the backup in philz touch right before i flashed the patched modem and the kernel to try and solve the imei issue, it was a normal backup (the one where you back every thing),meaning the imei problem was still there, but it was after i tried to restore my original EFS.
so here is what i did in steps
-got corrupted imei on CM 11
-tried to restore with my EFS backup that i made while i was on sammy 4.1.2 using different apps and methods didn't work
-made a full backup using philz before flashing a new modem as suggested
-got boot loop after flashing a new modem
-restored the backup i made before flashing the modem and for some reason my imei was back

I think the reason you got your imei back is the modem you installed with the kernel. So here is what i think happened. You had bootloop so restore got your old kernel back and modem stayed intact. Shortly if you had just installed a new modem from the begenning you would have sold your problem i always say best way to learn is try and fail. i am happy that you have your phone back [emoji106]
I also suggest you to replace the modem with an unpatched clean one. You can have network problem in the future...
