Unroot the S4 - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

I just heard about the impending release of 5.0.1 for the verizon s4.
I rooted my friends s4 a few months ago, and unfortunately, he just has not found it to help him much. I am relatively sure he would rather have lollipop.
So my question is this
How do I unroot his phone (on the latest NK1 firmware) without losing any data. He really wants to keep all his stuff exactly the way it is.
Thank you!

SuperSu has a unroot function, but it MIGHT brick the phone. Best thing to do is get the NO WIPE TARS for NK1 and use Odin..

Could you give me link on a tutorial for that or something? (no wipe tars didn't give me anything relevant on google)
Thanks!

It's not just unrooting. He will need to have all the stock apps, and if he changed any stock files, they will need change back. Nest bet is to use Odin and reflash the stock ROM.

He hasn't done any of that. The most he has done is installed Xposed, and he didn't find it compelling. Can the rom be reflashed without erasing the data? He is going to be real mad at me is I have to reset his phone to get him 5.0.

Root/Reroot Issue

I need some help from you experts...
My GS4 was rooted, and working great. My wife decided to try and update my phone for me, grrrrrrr.
Now I am not rooted, and it can't seem to get it done again. Also anytime I try to update it ends with an error. When I saw this, I attempted to use Odin to flash back to a stock OS. No luck. I did a factory reset and tried again, no luck. Still when I power up, the screen says "custom". I can't get back to the absolute bare bones factory OS for the life of me! I was trying to do that so I could again root the phone.
How do I get back to the absolute stock OS so that I could sell or trade the phone?
How do I get it back to stock so I could root it again? What options do I have to root these days, Odin doesn't like me right now! I am guessing I don't have the most up to date file. Mine is probably 6 months old.
Any help is much appreciated.

Need help with Re Root as well
I need a little assistance in re-rooting my phone as well. I had SuperSU on my phone and had root access. I selected the "Unroot" button in SuperSu and boy that was a mistake.I thought that this one button was a super "undo" button.
To my understanding, in order to uninstall Safestrap (I bought the phone from the store with ME7 installed ), I need to have root access. I can't seem to find the tutorial I used on how to root the phone with the the MI1 build.
The Goal:
I'm trying to get as bone stock as possible in order to return the phone. I don't like the phone and I am very unhappy that I can only use TW based ROMS. I'm within my 14 day trial period but unfortunately it ends tomorrow.
I'm downloading a stock ROM right now that I will flash via Odin once I manage to re root the phone and uninstall safestrap but I'm lost on how to root the phone again.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You don't need root to flash with odin.

Correct, that is where I was referring and yes he would not have root, one of his questions was how he gets back to stock OS to trade etc...
If he is mj7 that seems to me to be his only option if he doesn't want to lose data.
There is this which would really take it back to factory for mj7 wiping everything.

But he wasn't really specific about which firmware he was on so that's the best answer I can give him at the moment.

Update to Lollipop or flash another rom?

I've been having some terribly sluggish issues lately. Lagging when I text, browse the web, even listen to music.
I honestly do not remember which method I used to root, but I rooted & kept the stock rom. I just deleted the bloat.
Not sure if this will help
http://i.imgur.com/L9prnWv.png
I'm at a point where the lagging is really irking me, but I'm not sure which route I should go.
Since I'm rooted, can I just go ahead with the OTA update without any issues? If so, is there a method to root on lollipop?
If not...Should I just go ahead and flash another rom?
Don't take the ota! Follow he thread about upgrading to 5.01 keeping root! Totally worth going to LP. The speed is great! Give it a shot.

Make sure to back up any data and do a full wipe to nc5. That can make a difference. Or, Odin back to nc5, and use the Echoe ROM or the Super6 ROM, both of which are on Lollipop.

This is all foreign language to me
Sorry.
OK, get a program called odin. It is leaked Samsung software that allows to flash stock firmware on your phone. You have to flash the stock nc5 firmware with this and THEN continue the upgrade to lollipop
Laziness and not knowing much has lead me to not doing anything about the issue until now.
The phone gets slower by the day, so it's time for a change.
I'd like to flash this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2550770 but i'm not too sure if I can flash this via the stock recovery?
If not, how would I go about installing TWRP? I did try to search, but the page kept timing out.
DO NOT TRY TO INSTALL TWRP. YOU WILL BRICK. Thanks to Verizon, we have a locked bootloader, which means we only have Safestrap and Flashfire. SS is based off of TWRP, but is a really really really gimped version. Flashfire is an app that functions like a recovery.
You cannot install that ROM at all, because of this POS bootloader.
What you CAN DO, is install Roms such as Eclipse,Kitpop,Hyperdrive, and Stang's 5.0.1 ROM.
OR, you could do the OTA with root method.

Hurry up and wait
Any official word on if someone is actively working on trying to get root working?
.Root 5.1.1 T- mob S5???
[I would be pretty pleased if someone could help us out with thisQUOTE=karneychen;61618862]Is it possible for root on Samsung S5 T-mobile?[/QUOTE]
I'm going to give it another month and if no root method is out for 5.1.1, gonna have to revert to 5.0 since I can't get the debloater for OF6 to work. The forum here seems so inactive, makes me wonder if anyone is even working on a root method.
Is that even possible? How would you be able to downgrade without root? If there's a way, please let me know. 5.1.1 has completely trashed my phone. I wanna root so bad so I can flash a new rom. Make my phone usable again. I don't wanna update to get a new phone. Root would be a life saver or at least down grading to root. Please help.

When I got my phone it was running 4.4.2 and installed TWRP... used that to do an advanced wipe of my phone to include Dalvik, System, Data, Internal Storage and Cache and installed a downloaded copy of 5.1.1 from Sammobile. Not sure why I couldn't do the same thing and then install 5.0.

I don't want to say for sure it's 100% possible as I am no expert and haven't done my research. I know some OS's don't allow for downgrading and not sure if this is one of them. I just made an assumption that if advance wipe takes out the entire OS... then why wouldn't it be possible. I could be wrong though and haven't tried yet... wanted to wait a month and see if there is any progress on root for 5.1.1. If you find out anything let me know if you don't mind.. or if someone else with more experience in these matters could comment, that would be helpful.
You can downgrade via odin without tripping knox. I downgraded my wifes phone from 5.0 to 4.4.2 a while back.

Yea but that was 5.0 not 5.1.1 which might be different. I read an article a little while ago that mentioned that you might soft brick your phone if you attempt to downgrade 5.1.1... something to do with the bootloader. Waiting on an expert to chime in...

I was on 5.1.1, didnt like it and did odin back to 5.0 with no issues.
Same problem with OTA 5.1.1
Same problem with Samsung s5 T Mobile after the upgrade. SOOOOOO Lagggggy. T Mobile support told me to remove SD card, that seems to work, but I need the sd card... so I format it and put it back again and guess what.... it is lagy again. I also reset twice the phone and the same thing... So I think we are stuck, I can not root it, can not downgrade, can not use the phone!
Is there even a way to revert to 5.0
Ill say maybe a month since 5.1.1 was realesed. Testing some rooting mmethods myself so ill get back to yu all if I found a way
Should have waited for a dev to get hold of it, never do a ota. I have never took an ota yet, not planning to either.

have also twp recovery? for 5.1.1
I did brick my SM-G900T trying to go from 5.1.1 to 5.0. I read that Samsung added "protection" to 5.1.1 to prevent reverting & possibly rooting (not sure about that). I took the phone to a repair shop - it now has 5.0 and the OTA 5.1.1 is trying to download again.... I'm going to attempt to root 5.0. As I am new to rooting, really don't know what I'm doing & and am relying on internet posts, wish me luck!

Sprint Galaxy Note 3 on rooted MJ4 want to upgrade, but how?

Hello,
I'd like to upgrade to something more current than my 4.3 JB. Only, I'm concerned with losing my apps data and phone data. I used Odin one click root with no data loss. Now I'm wondering how the heck do I upgrade. Do I have to unroot to a stock mj4 first, then upgrade either ota or by myself to the highest version or since I'm rooted and running on twrp, can I upgrade with the most current or at least NC5 4.4? All the while, not having to reinstall my apps like before or any data loss?
My applogies ahead of time on not knowing the correct terms or procedures on what direction is the correct one to take in steps.
Thanks.
First you need to consider if you upgrade to NC5 or higher that installs Knox. Second has your trip counter been tripped to 1x0 ? You can root NC5 with Towel root and not trip Knox counter. But if upgrade higher than NC5 there is nothing that you root with that will not trip Knox counter. To save your data and apps you can attempt a "dirty flash" . This is done by finding a flash able version of NC5 in a zip file that you place on your sd card flash through twrp recovery, while in recovery you wipe caches and system, but not data.
However the odds of something being corrupted are high. The best way is to save all your data to your desktop and install back on the device after you are done flashing. Just click on rom flashing basics in my signature all info and links you need are there. Or you can find it on page 3 in General section.
I've got knox on 4.3.. and it's tripped any how. I don't care about the warranty, it's two years old. Hasn't got any left. hahahah. I'm more concerned with having to redo all the settings, my apps, work apps detailed things I really don't want to reset if I can help it (more so I can't remember all of it). I'm not sure how they did it before under the "one click no data loss" root. Wish there was a concise method, centralized that specifially says, hey if you used this, and want to do it like this, this and this, to save date, you do this and presto. hahah.
To be honest, I'm not sure what direction to take to even begin with. I'm rooted and what's the best way to update from there. I read your page, but it doesn't tell me what to do from being already rooted standpoint. Also it starts off as if you're on 4.4.4. I'm still on 4.3 MJ4. lol
Real quick, you mentioned to wipe the cache and system but not data. For obvious reasons, but could you explain what the three portions contain, reason being so I can wrap my mind around it to better understand why this, but not that.
Thank you for your quick response. Hope I can do this today if I'm lucky to get it right.
Ok so have a device that is rooted running mj4. To upgrade to 4.4.4 NC5 you need to find a copy of NC5 thats already rooted and in a flashable zip file. Than copy and paste the zip file to your sd card, and boot into your recovery. Now wipe cache, dalvik-cache, and system but do not wipe the data. This will install the new OS and keep your device rooted and save your data. This is commonly known as a dirty flash, most of the time it works. But sometimes it doesn't hence the term dirty flash.
The cache is a log of the OS running if there is an error or crash developers can review it and see what happened and fix it.
A dalvik-cache is data from your apps as they are loaded into the OS when they are opened or started up. The dalvik-cache stores this start up data that is repeated every time the application starts. Then uses it to make the app start up or open faster.

That one is flashable with Odin only. It would work but it would take you back to bone stock NC5 with no root and you would lose all your data. Think of it as buying a new phone and starting from scratch. I found one to but the download link is broken. Most of the guys here have updated to OC5 5.1 of course l'm still running my 4.4.4 NK4 deodexed debloated rom it's smooth and bulletproof.

ah, gotcha. I read also about battery life kind of sucking... How's yours running? Is there any benefit to updating higher? And, say I did 4.4.4, if I wanted to go up, would it be the same way, find a rooted flashable version and boot recovery?
Thank you for your help, really do appreciate when someone takes the time to help someone less knowledgeable.
I've been searching but still haven't found one. Anything in particular you can recommend I add to my search? you're right, some of the links no longer work. Any luck on your end?

Flashing question for my Sprint Note 3

I'm currently rooted on 4.3 MJ4. Yes I'm outdated and decided to finally update. I'm going to flash to stock 4.3 MJ4. My questions is, after I flash to stock 4.3 MJ4. Can I flash NC5 from MJ4? Or would I have to do it in these steps ( MJ4 then NAB then NC5? ).
Why not PH1? If you're wanting to stay with KK, NK4 is the last I believe. NH7 is the one most people used. Just trying to find out what you're trying to achieve
Also, if you're flashing a stock ROM, you don't need to first flash MJ4. Just flash what you want.

Awesome! Thanks! I am trying to flash a stock rom, but thought I would need to go in steps instead of instantly flashing to the most current version.
As for my plan: I'm rooted and on a custom rom. I want to go back to stock rom and then root again and flash to either cm12.1 or cm13. From what I've read, I cant flash to either cyanogenmod roms until I was on either lollipop or higher. I was also thinking, would it work if I was to flash a rooted current version of a stock rom, that way I don't have to flash a stock rom and break root and have to root it again?
For better results, I would flash a full PH1 rom and root, then install whatever rom you want. Usually they want the bootloader to be upgraded to lollipop and that really only happens when either flashing a full Odin rom or a bootloader image. Doing only the bootloader doesn't upgrade anything else and may cause issues.

What is the PH1 rom? I've already flashed to stock NC5 so far and lost root.
It's the latest rom. I don't think an Odin has been posted, but you can grab from the Samsung firmware site. Load that, then root by flashing TWRP and boot into recovery and flash SuperSU. Done.

EDIT: I went ahead and used the Full Restore. Fortunately, it did not WIPE any data. YEAH! And it looks like I am on my way to an updated NOTE3.
Hello. My Note3 is on 4.3. It was rooted a couple of years ago, but out of use since Oct 2015. I still want to use the Note3 for non-cell phone operations, browsing, camera, etc. I want to upgrade, but the OTA is locked out.
I am lost on all of the many, many posts on how to updated a rooted Note3, but most of them are outdated. I have it mostly backed up as far as handwritten notes, photos, etc. But I don't really want to have to start from scratch if I don't have to.
I am currently reviewing rwilco's one click options. There are two software packages listed in his directory. One of them is dated 02/27/15 and is called nodata restore. Will this keep from wiping the phone as opposed to the fullrestore exe posted 04/12/14 vs the tar posted 02/27/15.
I am not a complete dodo, but I am having a hard time getting this phone unrooted and updated.
Thanks for any detail instructions or links to the best way to update this as of 9/5/2016!!!
