Recently upgraded via OTA
Since then I no longer receive notifications from messages, video chat invites, etc. The only way I can see if I have new messages is to open a conversation. No notification light, sounds, or popups.
I have factory reset twice and have made sure hangouts is in the priority app list.
Anyone have any ideas?

That is the known issue called the "wireless sync bug", which happens with the latest OTA update 23C. I've had that happen with Hangouts/Inbox/Gmail, so I flashed the phone back to 10B then took OTA's up to 12B, to stay on Android 4.4.2.
Ugh, what a nightmare. I knew I shouldn't have updated haha...
I really did not want to get into the rooting/flashing stuff ... looks like I have no choice.

Just use the LG FlashTool to return to the 10B update, then take two OTA's to get you up to 12B. No need to root or anything to do that. You'll wipe your entire phone though, so if you do go this route, make sure you save any photos/music/files you want to keep.
No real point to upgrading from 10b though, is there. The only real changes were the addition of the buggy Advanced Calling VoLTE capability that drops calls often, right ?
I have had a LOT of experience with Verizonz updates, and I really believe their secret true intent is to encourage their customers to sign up for a new two year contract with Verizon in order to get a discount on a new phone.

So, I finally rooted my phone yesterday.
Then, today, I start getting full-screen messages from AT&T saying that there's a software update and they want me to connect to WiFi to download right now. There's only a "next" button and no "cancel" button.
Is anyone else getting this nag screen? I've heard mixed reviews about this update (I presume 2.3.6) and I also read that I'll lose root if I update.
So, how do I kill the nag screen for good? And, if I go forward with the update, will my frozen and layed-over apps (apps I've loaded on top of frozen apps) stay as-is? Or will all the frozen stuff revert back to stock versions?
I did the root method on 2.3.4 that doesn't affect the counter or give any visual notifications, and I understand that rooting in 2.3.6 isn't as easy to do, so I'd rather stick with what I have no rather than go through the upgrade process. But the nag-screen keeps bugging me all day long!
Any info appreciated.
Thx.
I'm in a similar situation - I actually DID the 2.3.6 update, had terrible battery life, spoke to a CSR who said that rooting (in order to flash the previous 2.3.4 official firmware) would NOT void the warranty of my phone (i777). I followed the guide in this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=18576627#post18576627
Perfection -got my phone back to reasonable battery life, etc. etc. Here's the snag: went into a Barnes and Noble today where my phone automatically connected to the AT&T wifi hotspot and now my phone wants to force me into this update again! Blast it all!
To address your concern about going forward with the update - I would highly recommend not doing so. My battery life dropped like a stone on the update - I'm not talking about a slightly perceived decrease, I'm talking about 2.5 hours dropping me 40%.
To remove the update request, delete or freeze device manager. Do this if you wish to remain on UCKH7.
If you accept the OTA update to UCKK6 while rooted you will retain root.
Right or wrong, I froze Device Management through TiBu.
Edit: Not fast enough!

Ok, I downloaded the update, but postponed installation for 8 hours. I will keep delaying until I find out exactly what this is.

It's the 2.3.6 update that has been talked about here for a while now. Don't update it.
I have also seen the new prompt today. This is actually different from the first one that I was seeing about 3 weeks ago that said there was a new update and the only button was 'OK', this new one has a OK or Postpone. I selected Postpone and then was asked for how long 1,2,4,8 hours.
I have done the same as others and frozen Device Manager, however I am wondering what else this feature does. I would like to know if this will effect any other parts of my phone or just stop the OTA updates.
I had done the stock root a few weeks ago and had never seen anything about updates. Then I was reading about modems and thought I'd give the UCKH7 because I might have better call quality over the UCKH6.
Two days later, I'm at work and notice that my phone is getting warm in my pocket. I took it out only to find it was downloading something... after a little investigating I figured out it was an update and later was given the option to postpone. Knowing I better check it out on XDA before doing anything I postponed and then ended up freezing it with TiBu.
I guess this is an update specific to the UCKH7 modem.....
No, not just modem update. It's the whole update called UCKK6. Do a search and there are multiple problems with this new ROM.
DON'T do it unless you LIKE worse battery life, non-working BT HID devices and other quirks (some ppl have problem with phone calls using the new modem).
AT&T is obviously push the update to everyone now instead of the batch updates.
Settings -> Applications -> Manage applications -> [All Tab] -> Device management -> Clear Data
That'll make it stop nagging you about the update until it goes out and checks again.
I have a rooted S2, and I 'checked for updates'
It said I can update my phone and the phone downloaded about 20 MB file by itself and asked for a restart to update the phone. I said yes, restarted the phone, but for some reason, it says, Update Failed.
You guys know the reason behind it?
Thank you
If you rooted and removed some bloatware, your update will likely fail. Why do you want to updat anyway after all the warnings?
You should have known that the minute you rooted your phone, you kiss good bye to official OTA updates. Sometime, it may work but most times it won't work.

You must be rooted.
The easiest way is to use Titanium Backup. If you don't have it, there is a free version as well as paid one. With the free version you can only delete, but with the paid version you can either delete or freeze any application. Install TiBu and then find device manager in the list.
If you want to do it manually, the file can be found in the system folder I believe. I don't remember exactly what it is called, however, and I don't have it on my phone to check.

No need to know the filename of the downloaded update. Simply clear the data on 'Device management' app will do.

Thank you. I've been looking for a way to stop the forced update reminders for a while.
It's insane that you can't stop this reminders easily and they are 'forcing' you to upgrade, specially when 2.3.6 seems to have so many issues as reported here and other forums.
Galaxy s4 stock not rooted running 4.3
If I open a email in gmail and there is a email address in the email section I click on it and it freezes and causes android system to force close.
If I uninstall the latest gmail update and perform the same action it brings up a new email like it's supposed to.
Anyone else having this problem?

I just tried what you are talking about and mine opens up a new email like it's supposed to. I am stock unrooted 4.3 MJ7 Verizon.
Just wondering....have you tried a power cycle or battery pull to restart the phone and see if that fixes it? Not trying to insult your intelligence ....just trying to help...I sometimes forget about simple fixes :0
Hope to hear what you did to fix it.

I assume you have your stuff backed up....
I softbricked my S4 once and I was all but ready to submit a warranty claim and get it replaced then I tried one last thing which was the Verizon Software Upgrade Assistant....you know the software that shows up as a drive when you plug your phone in via usb on your pc......well I went into that and told it to do the recovery thing which wiped the phone totally clean........and when the phone restarted I jumped for joy when it displayed the Android Widget with a progress bar on the screen when it was REINSTALLING 4.3 .
Something along those lines would be worth a try if you got your stuff backed up and you are not worried about loosing any root.
I am pretty sure it was the Verizon Software Upgrade assistant and NOT Samsung KIES (which I had installed also.)
You see I have removed them both from my pc and want to make sure I give accurate information so I want to BE CLEAR that there is a chance it was KIES that I used.
Someone on here should respond to confirm which one does what it did for me...wish I was 100% sure and because I am not I don't want to say for sure which one it was......BUT IT WAS ONE OF THEM and like I said the Android Animation showed up with a progress bar when it rebooted which is the same thing one sees when installing an OTA update.
I hope this helps. I know how it is to be in computer hell or the equivalent.
Just me $.02 worth.

Hello, I've updated to Lolipop and have been loving it. oc5
I decided to root and install TWRP custom recovery.
I went to use Sprint Zone to check my bill and it's gone!
Does sprint zone disappear when you root? Does it disappear when you use a custom recovery such as TWRP?
Did I install something that thought I wanted to get rid of 'bloatware?'
I did install triangle away and busybox pro. I don't think these apps removed it without my knowledge?
Also noticed that all sprint apps and zone are gone from the 'all apps' list.
If sprint zone uninstalls when we root or get a custom recovery, is there any way to get it back?
If not, does anyone have a sm-n900p lollipop version of sprint zone as an installable apk? oc5
Is there any point if it will just uninstall itself again?
Also, is there any reason I don't want to use Sprint Zone while using TWRP and root?
Thank you for your time!

I lost it from the update to lollipop before I ever rooted.
I called Sprint to see what they said.
After a long phone call with lots of trial and error, they had me install this app and run option 1.
It reset all the home screen settings/widgets I had set.
Some other settings were back to default as well. (I don't remember exactly what)
But, I now have Sprint Zone and a couple other bloat apps I was missing that I didn't care were missing.
I was wondering if this app would fix the missing wifi calling and other missing things?
My phone was not yet rooted when I used this app.
My phone went through hands free activation twice and rebooted a couple times.
I'm not sure how it will work on rooted phone, or if it will break root or anything else.
USE AT YOUR OWN RISK
Good luck!
thank you

I investigated that option, but I might as well do a hard reset. If anyone has the oc5 installable apk or knows about this issue with it disappearing after root and twrp, i'd greatly appreciate it. I had it just fine in oc5 lollipop but disappeared afterwards.

This was a lot less than a hard reset.
All I noticed was home screen settings back to original when I ran opt1.
All my account settings and apps and whatnot were all still there.

yeah, I just discovered that. the usual option in settings was gone, and that confused me... someone else. mentioned this, and I reinstalled it from the following link, it updated once, works fine.

Weird? I have the ability to update prl and profile in their normal place. (system update)
Maybe that is what 'opt2' will do?
Anyone brave enough to try it? lol

I am curious though what will happen with option 2.
Will the Sprint police come knocking on your door?
Will it cause a fire?
I guess we'll never know!
Well opt.2 does nothing that i can see didnt even put sprint zone on my phone ?

I'm one of many people experiencing issues with the Moto Z (Force) move to Nougat. In doing so, I have choppy audio, tinny sound, popping and crackling as well. When contacting Verizon, they claim that nobody else is complaining about this to a point where their company is notifying its CS reps with a resolution. When contacting Lenovo/Motorola, they claim that they've received a ton of complaints since the Nougat release, and suggested that I bring the phone back for a swap since I had only just purchased it. I did just that, and followed their additional instruction for not updating to Nougat. The only problem is that the freakin thing downloads automatically while on wifi within a day and no way to prevent it that I know of. Now I have this aggressive attempt of the OTA management to get me to start the process. I don't want to, but neither do I want to manage having to ignore this update every day, nor do I want to accidentally initiate the process. I'm looking for a bit of help.
I thought that if I disabled the Motorola OTA service that it wouldn't push. But it did push even though I stopped the service under developer options. And even now that it pushed, I hoped not to get the message, but there it is. And since I don't want to root yet, I can't clear the space in cache where the update is to prevent it from updating accidentally. I'm looking for the names of any other Moto services that might be related to the OTA that I can disable to prevent this from happening. I don't mind factory defaulting my phone and starting over to clear their cache, but once the update actually executes, I'm hosed with crappy audio again. My wife has the same phone and we have one day to get her a new one for free within our return period. We like the phone, do not want to get a different brand, and hope that we can find a solution to this. Again, I want to do this without rooting.
Thanks in advance if anyone can help.

About to download and try it out. If it works, I'll be back in a couple days to report. If it doesn't, I'll be back sooner. Thank you for the suggestion.
Also, if you can provide any specific configurations to manage the OTA, I'm at your disposal.

PS I won't be searching for updates either, but I will be bugging Lenovo/Motorola to find out when the bug is fixed.
I'm rooted, have xposed and the donation version of the app.
As the OTA app is a system app you can't greenify it without having xposed installed and the donation package of Greenify.
Try to just disable the app with the normal app manager.

It worked on 6.01 but no longer on 7.0. If you debloat on 6.01 and take the OTA to 7.0 everything you've debloated stays that way unless you do a factory reset.
for some reason google took away the ability to use the adb commands in 7.0
Almost like they want us to be stuck with bloat lol.

I just tried it and I get some permission error. So it seems after the Dec patch it no longer works on '6.
I have Moto Z Play -1.
any suggestions for someone who might have accidentally downloaded the system update, but hasn't installed it yet? It makes me nervous, having that "new system software is downloaded and ready to install" message b/c I know one day I'll probably accidentally click on it and there won't be a way to go back.
I am a Z play owner.
By installing Z (not play) apps I believe I have disabled the OTA. But I have no nagging update to test it's functionality on.
To my point, if this does work then the reverse should work also.
I will up my apps if anyone want to try it.
My OTA stopper https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3538812
Evidence it will work. https://www.darklaunch.com/2015/04/10/disable-motorolaota

Received the following error:
Code:
Processing changes to: Error: java.lang.SecurityException: Neither user 2000 nor current process has android.permission.MANAGE_USERS.
Drivers installed
USB Debugging set
RSA key accepted
Etc.
Seems a common error with some folks. As for me, this does not work on this phone at this time. Thank you for the nudge to look at this utility, as I have high hopes that its exactly what I need. I have posted in their forum, and have offered to test prototypes.
Thanks again.

Same as me on my z play.
The last patch did this.
I have a US998 v30s on Verizon with the stock Oreo 8.0 rom. A peculiarity is that no notification appears on the status bar after a voice message is received. What happens instead is that a text message is sent to the phone. The text message is "coded" and not intended to be read by humans. Nonetheless, it isn't hard to spot the caller id of the person who left the voice message within the text. Another text message is sent to the phone upon emptying the voice mail box. My suspicion is that these messages should turn on or off the voice message status bar notification. Is anyone familar with this behavior and how do I get the notifcations to work properly.
Thanks in advance for any assistance and apologies if this is asked an answered in another forum,

Yup. This is one of the issues with using non-Verizon phones on Verizon.
VZW won't let you install the proprietary Verizon apk.
I'm hoping someone figures it out soon.
I like having an unlocked bootloader on Verizon.
Had this problem too. I just started using Google Voice as my voicemail service instead. Works for me :good:
It might yet be possible to get it working though I agree switching to google voice would be sesnible and easier, too. The reason for thinking so is that I have a droid turbo with resurrection remix as a backup phone. It has no verizon software, and the vms notifications work fine. Perhaps someone with one of @SGCMarkus roms on verizon can comment? If not, I'll give it a go eventually.
I think it is more likely related to just visual voicemail and not voicemail in general. I have us998 and use an MVNO whose repackaged service is Verizon. I have no issues with just voicemail, but when they tried enabling visual voicemail on my account, I started to get the weird texts. As soon as visual voicemail was disabled the texts went away and the standard voicemail notification started working again.
Visual VoiceMail or Advanced VoiceMail as its called in Verizon's business control panel is the cause. If you switch your service to Basic VoiceMail you wont get those anymore. Although I have to agree with everyone here that switching to Google Voice for Voicemail was the best option. After you sign up for Google Voice, google around for the special forwarding codes to use. Thier were two if memory serves, special numbers you can dial on your cell phone and then provide your Google Voice number. This makes all unanswered or denied calls go to your Google Voice number directly which will then take a message. Google Voice honestly does a much better job than Visual VoiceMail, even offering voicemail-to-text for free.
Took the plunge and installed @SGCMarkus' DotOS rom. The voice message indicator is now working. The issue seems to be in the software of the open market v30.

Really? So Visual Voicemail works properly on AOSP!?
Did you also install Stark's camera mod? Does it have all of the functionality of the stock camera?
Thanks for the feedback!
It seems so, but I confess to not fully understand some of the Verizon nomenclature. Perhaps this helps get the correct conclusion. My service is basic, I dial *86 to get to voice messages, and I don't have any verizon software. The tape notification flips on and off properly with DotOS. The notification doesn't work with the stock lg software. I get a clunky text messages instead like described above.
I haven't tried Stark's camera but plan to soon.
Other lg apps like HD audio recorder and FM radio install but force close.

Ahh. Visual Voicemail is the service/app that you use to access and listen to voicemails through the app on the screen. It sounds very different than what you are suggesting works (message notification). I am holding out on stock in hopes that someone will eventually get it to work.
Thanks for the feedback, though.

That is great news! I'll be trying that tonight.
Did you have to flash the 2 other files too?

I loaded the kdz in lgup, used parttion upgrade, unchecked boot, and recovery....I did NOT reflash noencrypt or lgrootchecker, or magisk. It booted, still have root.
My service is better too. I already had the modem flashed, so there must be something with the actual 996 fw. I'm quite happy now.

It is working, but I am getting some force closes and it can't read my sdcard.
EDIT: SD card corrupt. Tap to repair.
Format of SD card in phone fails. TWRP can't read it either. Bummer.

I have no force closes. I will pop an SD card in and check.
Edit....no issues with SD card either. Not sure why your having issues. Maybe try wiping data?
Anyone using a converted ls to us on Verizon NEEDS to do this! My service is back strong and better than ever.
Can I load the vzw kdz on my open market us998?
From what I'm reading, it sounds like I can. I of course feel more comfortable when I can get others to confirm.
Thanks

I probably should have mentioned that I am on Verizon and have unlocked bootloader with root. Shouldn't assume that folks know that.

Can you link to the kdz, please? I'm not sure where to find it.

The "ls" he's referring to is likely the LS998, which was a Sprint phone. If that's what it was, then he had to convert it to an unlocked US998 to be able to load the Verizon kdz, so you should be able to do the same thing. Should, of course, being the operative word.
