Unable to disable applications (non-root) - Galaxy S6 Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone, it seems that there certain applications such as Samsung's very on Internet browser and a few others that I am interested in obliterating doesn't seem to allow me disable them.
Did I miss out on a specific security/developer settings that has caused this to happened or it this something else like a carrier-lock "feature"?
Really annoyed seeing those useless application clogging up in my launcher!
Any advice would be very much appreciated. And non-root solutions please. I'm hoping to stay un-rooted for the first time in my android device history all for the hype of Samsung Pay!
But if that disappoints, I'm rooting this sweet piece of cake IMMEDIATELY.
Thanks in advance everyone.

Not every app is able to be disabled. You can't disable the stock browser, stock messages app, stock email app, and I'm sure there are more.

[Q] IOS like restrictions for android (restricted profiles suck)

Is there an app available which provides similar features to ios restrictions, such as being able to prevent changes to accounts and contacts, meaning for apps such as hangouts or messenger i can prevent my brother from only contacting existing contacts and prevent him from adding random people (hes autistic...) Im currently using Norton parental controls and this allows me to block certain websites and send me usage reports, however i would like for him to be able to actually contact his family on the tablet, however being able to add people is a big no-no as he can become abusive to people. I managed this perfectly fine on his Ipod as within Ios restrictions you can simply turn on the option to prevent changes to accounts...
I'am quite an advanced android user and i cant seem to find a way to do this... i also cant believe people are praising the restricted profiles in android 4.4.2... i think it is awful only allowing you to block apps... there are numerous apps available to do this anyway.
Another issue i have is with the play store not asking for a password for apps even though this option is selected in 4.4.2. I know this is a reported issue as i have found a forum on the issue however no one had a solution.
Any help would be appreciated

[Privacy] Is there any Dialer and Contact App that request no permissions?

Hi,
I used to surf around xda-devs since its early beginnings, but This is my first interaction with this great community, and I am sorry 'cause it is a question.
So, I'm really wondering if there's any dialer or contact list App which don't steal users data .. I really hate it when I find a top rated Apps that requests almost every single permission available on the SDK, it's really disgusting. :banghead:
Even if there's such dialers that would ask for bunch of permissions, if you really know that it's from a clean company and it wont steal information from you, that would be helpful.
# Why I'm thinking of such a Dialer?
Because I was using android for years now, and I figured out that I don't really needs other apps to know my contacts and read my call history, I literally get no benefits from that, So I think if I used a 3rd party Contact list, apps like Facebook will be no longer able to fetch phone numbers out of my Android, by talking about Facebook it was very mean when I learned that they still going to copy your phone book to their cloud even if you consciously touched the 'Skip' button :banghead:
# Otherwise:
How can I prevent such apps from taking my contact list without rooting the device, (you know you try to control your privacy by rooting that device but what are you actually doing is giving access to many apps to many secret places).
Thanks in advance

Privacy Ace App: Is it any good?

Hello Friends,
My name is Ivaylo and I am new to the forum. I decided to make a registration, because I wanted to ask for some help from you guys. For the past few weeks, I have been looking for an app that can help me protect my personal information (Facebook, Phone gallery, Call logs, etc.) on my smartphone (currently using Samsung Galaxy S5). I have tried quite a few free apps from Google Play such as AppLock, Smart AppLock and the like. Among those, I came across this app called Privacy Ace. To be honest, I liked the design and interface of Privacy Ace. Both very pretty simple and user friendly. On the other hand the other apps I tried (i.e. Smart AppLock) offer more features (i.e. 'Observer' feature; if someone tries to access your phone and enters the wrong password a few times, the app takes a picture of that person and later on you can see who has tried to break into your phone). However Smart AppLock, for example, has kind of a clustered interface. It was really difficult for me to find out how to use the various features of the app. I really got frustrated while trying to figure out how to use it. I am not the most intelligent person, but I know how to use smartphones, if you know what I mean. Still I am looking for something that is simple to use and can get the job done.
So my question basically is: has anyone else tried Privacy Ace and is it any good? How is the app performance-wise? Should I give it a try? Feel free to suggest other apps of the same type too.
Thanks for the help in advance
Cheers
Ivaylo

General Question about App Installation

I noticed that since 5.1.1 or (sometime around it's release) when I download an apk or an update from playstore, I am shown a list of service, broadcast receiver, activities, etc. with toggles. I am not sure if this is a result of one of the apps I have installed (like cm security, my android tools, amplify) or if it is just a new policy on google play. Anyone else see this? Is there a guideline as to what if any can be toggled and why I should/ should not mess with it. I've been reluctant to mess with anything up until now b/c I am not sure what this is. Can anyone direct me to a guideline thread or shed some light on it for me? Thanks in advance.
I've included some pictures of what I'm describing from a recent Dolphin upgrade from playstore.

someone can correct me if im wrong, but i believe i read somewhere thats some new features to help make users more aware of the permissions they agree to in more detail.
i dont recall it mentioning as in depth as the receivers, but it may have. for the most part, you really dont want to mess with those, otherwise the app could partially or completely stop working properly.
what you can and cant turn off is really going to be a case by case basis. i have tried doing some of that before, and tbh, its generally not worth the effort it takes to figure it all out. the battery gains are usually minimal to non existent. only thing some what useful is disabling the ad servers.
your really better off not touching any of those, unless you have a rogue issue you are trying to rectify.

Why not sending your screenshots to [email protected] for help? Seeking support from Dolphin is much more time saving.

That was just an example, it does that for all apps downloaded from Google play. Apparently, it is to disclose permissions required by apps more thoroughly. At the time that it I posted, it was a relatively new feature and I was wondering about it.

Voice - to - text / Speech - to - text without Google: Is it possible?

Hi there everyone!
As a learning exercise I've attempted to exorcise(zing!) all Google apps from my Samsung S7 Active(not rooted). I have managed to find replacements for everything I need except for one thing: Speech-to-text. I very badly need the ability to speak my texts and emails due to hand tremors. I've done a lot of searching but can't find any solution other than Dragon but that doesn't seem a true solution as it seems to require you do everything in that app and I need to be able to choose to speak in my texting and email apps.
Is this something I can do? Is there a way to get a STT engine on a non-rooted phone without installing Google? I'm using Yalp and f-Droid to manage my apps but have no issues with installing apk's outside of an app manager.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time!
wow i see no replies, i have the same issue, any ideas at all?
the original purpose of google was to feed huge amounts of learn-able data into what will ultimately become AI; nothing can compare to the unimaginable amount of data google has learned from already. It is very hard to replace that; especially for "free" (of monetary charge) or even small fee; because we are paying with currency of privacy and insight into humanity.
