[Q] Battery Drain - Verizon LG G3

Upgraded to lollipop officially and battery drain is something crazy im talking like 10% if the phone is being used for about 10 mins and flashing back to earlier version doesnt do the trick any ideas????? seriously just considering getting rid of the phone entirely!!!!!!! ERRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!! Not really Looking to purchase a ZeroLemon but if need be i will

Did you upgrade without doing an FDR? It's probably a misbehaving app. I'm getting great battery life, but I backed up my phone and apps and data first, then did an FDR and upgrade.

[Q] Battery Issues with Eclipse ROM on Galaxy S4

Has anyone else had battery drain issues with the Eclipse ROM on the Verizon Galaxy S4? I just came from an S3 on CyanogenMod I'd been using for a little over a year and I could still make it a whole day without having to charge it, but it seems like I can only make it half a day on the S4 before the battery gets low. So far I've:
-Used Titanium Backup to remove all bloatware listed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2797600
-Minimized screen brightness as much as possible
-Turned off all unnecessary functions (Gestures, AirView, etc)
-Turned on Power Saving Mode
-Replaced the original (used) Samsung battery with a brand new OEM battery (with no positive change in battery life)
I mostly use the device for email, web browsing, etc. and still find the battery draining faster than I think it should be (about 10% every 15-20 minutes during use). I do have Avast Antivirus and My Data Manager running, but they only contribute to about 2-3% of total battery usage. The display, on the other hand, is responsible for anywhere between 30-50% of the total battery usage. (I can post screenshots of my device's battery usage later, if necessary).
The S4 is on the NC5 bootloader (thus I used the Safestrap method to install Eclipse), if that makes a difference.
Im on eclipse nc5 and i actually get great battery thanks to xposed and greenify. Go install greenify, And grant it root access. Then any apps you dont need notifications immediately, select them to hibernate so they dont use as much battery. That should help, and with brightness. Use lux lite. It can make your screen as bright as 100% or as dark as -80%. I change it depending on my lighting, and it seems to work fine.
When you say you get great battery life, just how much are you getting out of it? I've got greenify installed, hibernated all apps I don't need notifications for, etc and I still average only about 4-5 hours of battery life. Surely the screen alone can't be draining the battery THAT fast?

You may have wake lock issues with some of your apps Android Basics 101: Understanding Wakelocks: http://youtu.be/fG8tghj0AYM that is a very good and short video explaining what exactly a wake lock is and there is a good X posed module that will help you manage them.
"It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery." - Galatians 5:1
I'm no pro or anything but I do know that eclipse should definitely last at least a day. If greenify or freezing busy apps isn't doing it, then you have some other problem. If I were you, I would reinstall the eclipse rom, check the md5, and reflash it. Even preferably, I would do a clean restore of the s4... This is a ton of work but that means that anything wrong will be fixed, its the solve all solution.
*assuming you're not streaming videos constantly off 4g while running your gps in the background and having 10 emails pushing in a hot car . then u might have some bad battery life, just maybe.
I have basically the same setup, but I use One Power Guard as well. I also used Titanium Backup to freeze anything to do with Google since I use Aqua Mail and CalenGoo, neither of which need Google services. Mostly email, phone and texting. Probably much less use than you, but I get two days easy, One day I'll have to use just the phone for a day and see what happens.

Sorry for the late reply, but I finally got around to doing a clean restore of the S4 followed by a reinstall of the eclipse rom (including redownloading the rom and checking the md5). A few days later and my device's battery life is still terrible. I know there's always the possibility that the brand new OEM battery I purchased a month or two ago could be a dud (I did buy it off eBay, knowing full well the risk I was taking). Any suggestions on where I could get a good battery for a reasonable price? Or can anyone think of anything else that might be draining the battery so fast?

Buy an Anker or Zerolemon! Both are great.
Download wakelock detector or better battery stats to check what apps are using your battery.

battery life

it seems that samsung firmware is becoming worse and worse. I have a 75000mAh extended battery and it would last me about 3 days with the MK software. i updated to the NC5 one, and batteyr life took a dump at most a day with the same usage. I dont even dare to put the original battery as it lasts me 5 hours. I though it was the battery so i replaced it, but same thing. I am now on NG6 and not much improvment. Besides the screen, ANDROID SYSTEM and ANDROID OS are using the most battery resources. WTF are these damn things? what is the difference between SYSTEM and OS. To me they should be the same. Has anyone noticed this, or is there something that I can do to improve it? thanks.
If you select them, they will display what is included in those packages.
Android System and Android OS are NOT the same. Not at all.
since my last full battery recharge, android os has used 64% of my battery, screen 9% android system 7%. this is ridiculous that the OS is using that much battery. forget about what people are saying that screen consume the battery is the damn android or whatever verizon is putting into it

That is not normal...sounds like you have some type of wake lock or some background app that isn't shutting off. I cant remember off the top of my head but I think theres an app called better battery stats or somethung like that and it hwlps you track down what specifically is draing you battery...as in what specific part of the android os.
usually a reboot will fix these issues, however if that fails then I would look Into the better battery stats...and then a full factory reset/or odin if possible
Too bad that those apps require root to work in kitkat due to google's change in permissions. This sucks.

I had the same issue. My battery used to last me about 17 hours (two work shifts). After some updates it would be at about 5% after an 8 hours shift. I replaced the battery thinking it would help but it made no difference. I finally got fed up enough and installed Safestrap and the Hyperdrive Rom. The difference is night and day. After one shift my battery has been 50% - %70 depending on my usage. Not being familiar with Safestrap it took a little work, but it was well worth it.
As indicated above, most battery life issues are caused by apps failing to allow the phone to sleep properly.
Get better battery stats, root your phone, and allow it to run for a at least half a day. Wake lock detector works well too, also requires root.
Google location services is a big culprit of background activity.
Tracking down the actual causes takes time, lots of it.

I got replacement phone with NG6 already on it. The battery life sucks. For some reason when it goes sleep, sometimes the battery will go up a 1 or 2% , have No idea how it's doing it

Battery Woes

About a week and a half ago, my battery went from draining ten percent in a typical day (hour to an hour and a balf of constant use, browsing Facebook, web, email - if I really went ham I might go down in the 80s) to easily closing in on the 50s if not more.
I've tried several factory resets, gotten the lollipop upgrade that just hit, removed apps, upgraded apps - nothing. I'm on stock and haven't had this phone more than a month. Android System is typically the worst offender for battery usage according to the settings monitor.
Please help. I was so impressed and now I'm at a loss.
If you've done factory resets, then I would say, factory reset again and stay on stock apps. Don't install anything else. Monitor what happens with your battery life. My guess is, if you have installed other apps since doing the factory reset, it's an app that is misbehaving, even though you see android system being the main culprit. More than likely, it could be an app that isn't releasing resources correctly or hasn't been updated to run correctly with LP. That usually points to a sign of improper programming, or they haven't update their app yet to perform correctly under LP.
If things are running fine on stock, start adding your apps back one by one. Install one app, leave it for a few days and see what happens. if battery life stays the same, then move onto the next app. Hopefully, you'll find the app that's giving you issues.
If even with just stock apps you are having the issue, then it might be a hardware issue, possibly even battery. But, if it's been working fine before the LP update, I highly doubt that. My best guess is it's a misbehaving app.
I'm still having problems with nothing else but stock apps, unfortunately. The problem started shortly before the update - does that support that it's more hardware or more software related? The phone is still fairly new and though I know that doesn't rule out a bad battery, still kinda hoping I don't have to deal with Verizon and getting a replacement.
Talked to Verizon, they said "we checked, battery's fine." So... guess its not the battery? They said it "could take a month to normalize after the update."
I would buy a replacement battery and install it, see if that helps. They are cheap and it's good to have one anyway. The Ankers come in a 2-pack with a nice universal wall charger.
Verizon is not even bothering to check really, are they ? Did they even loan you a replacement to prove to you it's not a bad battery ? Doubt it. Do it yourself.
It really sounds like you are having excessive battery drain due to a wakelock problem like with Google's update service. Check around here for threads about how to diagnose and mitigate that.

I didn't expect Verizon to help, but they definitely impressed with just how little they offered. I'm spending today with Wi-Fi and 4G off, unless browsing, for which I turn the latter on. In my half hour lunch I've noticed much, much better battery usage. Thoughts?
Edit: change of location seems to drain it quicker (school vs McDonalds parking lot - former worse than the latter). Signal was three bars in each, though.
I've looked a bit ino wakelocks but will read up on it more tonight. Problem I've found is how many detectors require root access, and I'm not real interested in rooting.
I just got my G3 last night and rooted it and did a few things to minimize battery drain and today, after almost 12 hours of light to moderate use my battery is still sitting at 81%.
Pretty sure there's a memory leak on stock vs985 lollipop... Or at least from what I had read and experienced

Battery Percent

I have started getting a Battery Percent that keeps defaulting back to 40% it shows 100% when charged, but then eventually reverts back to showing 40% I have tried wiping cache, but it keeps reverting back.
Might want to specify which ROM version you are running...
Mine’s still great. I charge either once every night or every other day during the night time.
(Boy that Mate 10 Pro Porsche Design looks nice!)
Oops!! Guess I should have put this under the Nougat thread. I'm running the latest lineage 14.1. The funny thing is I've been running it for a while now with no issues. I replaced my battery a few months ago, the new battery holds a good charge and haven't had any issues with it. So if I reboot my phone again it shows the correct battery percent, but after a few minutes will revert back to 40% every time.
That’s not a problem where you post, just wondering if it is a bug with the ROM/OS, or the new battery, because I have been using this phone for years while my wife and son still struggle with the puny batteries on their iPhones, which are even newer!
I still run the 5.1 from Huawei. It may have degraded but still so large in comparison I can’t feel a difference. Definitely doesn’t ever jump at all that I notice.

Im running the latest lineage-14.1-20180119, and have been since it came out. I think it might be something to do with battery, I have the same phone for my wife with the same rom and no issue on her phone.
I have the latest Lineage as well, but I do not have this problem. Does it ever get below 40%? If so, maybe try letting it run out completely and then do a full charge from there?
Yes once it gets to 40% it starts going down or if I plug it in it will show the correct percentage.

Close to terrible battery life

Helllo guys!
So here's my story: About 6 months ago i installed this https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g5/development/h830-resurrection-remix-6-0-0-t3792258 Ressurrection Remix mod and I was absolutely loving it. Now I started to play Pokémon Go again with colleagues but since my device was rooted it kept crashing so many times that I decided to switch back to stock rom, also in this case I wanted to get my 60FPS video recording possibility back since RR didn't have that function. My battery life was absulutely okay when I had RR, like with normal daily usage i could hold out for 1.5 days without charging it. So basically I flashed back to a stock ROM using a zip from one of the thread around here called "LG-H85030a-Flashable.COMPLETE", though I wanted to be up to date with the ROM, also this flashable was Vodafone and I needed an original T-mobileish ROM. So I tried to update the ROM with LG Bridge which was a success. Then I knew I had to root it one more time because of batterystats. So I rooted it again. Deleted batterystats, discharge then full recharge without any intervention and of course while the phone was off. After this I kept experiencing a massive loss on battery life. Like while playing Pokémon GO the phone discharges 15-20% in 30 mins of gaming. I know that Pokémon GO eating up battery since it's release and maybe they still din't optimize it. But what it's wierd that I just charged my phone to 100% then I went to take a shower which lasted about 20 mins and when I got back I saw that the battery percentage dropped to 92%. In freakin 20 mins idle time. Is it possible that I did wrong something in the batterystat reseting? I did it many times before and I didn't have any issues after it. I also tried to calibrate the battery with the Advance Battery Calibrator app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.newagetools.batcalibra&hl=en_US) multiple times and I didn't have any luck. :/ Also tried to remove or freeze some applications which were running in the background and they were useless to me. Or maybe is it possible that the ROM i downloaded and installed from LG Bridge is a complete ****? Also FYI I have two batteries, one which came with the phone ofc and one which I bought a year ago within a charging kit. The phone itself is about 2 years old. Basically the original battery should be closing to it's ending but the other shouldn't, also I tried the calibration process while I was using the fresher battery. Also the current ROM version is 8.0.0 Oreo, v30c-216-30 if that helps anything. :S I also installed the MK2000 kernel because after rooting the phone the flashlight didn't work and the MK2000 fixes that. Though the battery life was bad before it too, so that can't be the problem, the fact of the root either because even the unrooted ROM had bad battery life.
Thank you for your further help guys!
