[Q] Snapchat video recording issue in most ROM's - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

On our beloved S3's, one feature in most ROM's has an issue with Snapchat.
Let me explain: With our phone, snapchat has two limitations on video recording. 10 second time limit, and a size limit of (I think) 6mb. Once it reaches one of these two limits, the video stops recording.
Normally this wouldn't be a problem... Except that on most ROM's the default camera quality is vastly increased. This means that after about 3 seconds of recording a snapchat video, it reaches its size limit and stops.
Due to the popularity of snapchat, I'm sure there must be a fix out there - and if not we could make one. But for now... Does anyone have a solution? It's the only reason I'm sticking with stock ROM.

[Q] Snapchat video recording time not working properply

After searching for a while it seems few people have shared my problem but none really found a solution.
I'm on a Galaxy S3 i9300 running the latest stable build of SlimKat (which is AOSP based) and it appears snapchat videos only record for a second or so before stopping. According to what I read i recognized the problem as a memory problem, snapchat has a maximum memory capacity for video and for some reason on AOSP based ROMs it reaches that maximum too early. I confirmed this because I saw that when Video Quality is set on "Low" it does record the full 10 seconds (although in messed up proportions which is why I don't want to use it) and if I put the Video Mode on regular and put my thumb on the camera it records 10 seconds of black, and if I suddenly remove the finger it ends because of the memory maximum.
How can I fix this problem? I really like vanilla android and I don't want to move to Samsung based ROMs for something like this. Please help

Had a dream about this... Try going to camera app and go to video setting, in the recording setting change the video to a lower one. Mine was at 1080p and when I changed it to 720p it started working amazing. Try setting it lower if that doesn't work for you. Mine was only recording for 1 second and would stop, after this I can record the full length allowed now. Let us know if this works for you

Won't record full 10 seconds video on Snapchat

There are so many people with AOSP ROMs who are having this problem. Like this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2472606
So whenever I try to record on Snapchat the video stops in a second or two. Also, I have found this:
"App issue, unfortunately. Snapchat requests 2 limits on recordings: 10 seconds, and 900Kbytes, whichever comes first. The media profiles on the i9300 (12mbps video + 128kbps audio) reach 900K in about 5 seconds, so we can't quite fix this without lowering the recording quality" Source here
It works normally on stock roms because it records lower quality, can't AOSP also record lower quality? Come on guys the problem is everywhere and everyone who are having this problem are waiting for a fix...

[Q] Any Roms with working snapchat video?

Hi there,
been running different roms (4.4.4.-->5.1.2) for the i9300 for the past year or so, but every time, Snapchat recording have capped at about 2 seconds and are unable to send. Seems like Snapchat are recording in too high quality compared to stockrom and therefore it cannot record full 10 second. Is there any rom 4.4.4+ that have solved this problem? Can't stand Samsung's, and I do appriceate every effort from developers Thanks

LG V30 Video length longer than 11:53??

Hey I'm having issues with my LG V30+ From Sprint. I'm having issues with recording a video that lasts more than 11:53. I'm trying to record a full softball game but the recording cuts off at 11:53 and creates a whole new video. How can I make it just one long video without having it be a Time Lapse video? Thanks for the help!

Is it "11:53" limit -- or does it just happen to coincidentally be 11:53 due to your high resolution settings? In reality you are running up against the Android 4GB video recording limit? Like if you set it for 720p or more efficient codec you could record more than 11:53? (see post below)
I didn't even know about this 4GB limit until the other day... How do people record concerts then?

Hi! I'm getting a V30 this week and I also plan to do a lot of video recording with it so this is of interest to me. I did bump into the 4GB file size limit on Android as well when recording long videos with other Android phones such as my V10. First I thought it would have something to do with FAT32 storage format which has a 4GB file size limit but after doing some research it seems it's not related to FAT32 but a (arbitrary?) limitation of the Android OS. However, some Android phone makers seem to be able to tweak the OS in such a way that you can record beyond 4GB, for instance Sony (tested it on a Xperia XZ).
Regarding the V30, I just happened to come across this recent thread which is talking about a new OS update for the V30/V30+ bringing features of the newer V30 ThinQ to the older V30(+): https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/how-to/oreo-update-ai-camera-t3760379. Now the interesting thing is that one of the new features listed says "Google Drive supports downloading files larger than 4GB". It could be nothing after all but maybe, just maybe, this also means that Android on the V30 now generally copes with files larger than 4GB and that this will also affect recording video with the native app.
Other than that, a few thoughts how to tackle the problem:
- Judging from my experience with the V10, the native camera app of the V30 should have the option to change the recording bitrate. If you can live with a lower bitrate for your video, you can squeeze out a couple of more minutes recording time. On the V10 I was able to record over 1 hour in 720p resolution with the low bitrate setting.
- I don't have the V30 yet, but maybe the native app (or some 3rd party recording app) has the option to record with the newer H.265/HEVC video codec instead of the (still) common H.264. The superior compression of H.265 will allow you to have a much smaller file size while keeping the quality, ergo you will be able to record a lot longer even if the 4GB file size limit continues to exist.
- OpenCamera is only one of the 3rd party camera apps that support auto-restart: If you find the audio to be terrible you could also check out "Cinema FV-5" or "Filmic Pro".
That being said, I'm glad to hear that on the V30, the native app at least seems to automatically restart after reaching the file size limit. On the V10, you have to manually push the record button again which is annoying when you just want to place the camera somewhere and keep it running while you have other things to do.
Still, let's hope Android get rid of this limitation asap!

Question Whatsapp choppy video

Hi,
Since I bought GT 2 PRO global version (RMX3301) 2 months ago, I have an issue with sending videos (recorded from the main camera) as videos playback get choppy after being processed by whatsapp.
latest updates did not solve the issue.
However, if I record and send videos directly from whatsapp, the playback is smooth.
Anyone faces the same problem? Any fixes?
Exact same issue here, have been trying every different setting etc and nothing working.
Same here. Gdpr version
Sorry, I posted a fix I thought works but doesn't ...
If you change video options to 4k, 30-60 fps, it´s must work for you.
Is better ,but no, not working
Same problem
try turning of hevc (h265) video in setting, alternatively cut the video shorter using the editor and use the new video
same problem here. Just found out the culprit. if you download the video to computer and try to read the FPS, it always using weird number, like 28.97, 29.41, 29,33 fps. I guess that what really make whatsapp compression failed, it tried to upscale the frame rate to 30 fps but because the FPS never have constant rate, the output get choppy.
I tried using Gcam, and works perfectly, because Gcam always produce 30 fps video.
Realme should fix this bug
To solve this inconvenience (it happens in several mobiles that are not Samsung and Iphone), you must use the "VenLow" application (I suggest downloading the premium app from google) and that's it, the same application indicates how to use it and you can also watch videos on youtube. Greetings People from Chile.
Just noticed that problem was solved already
