Problem with AOSP based roms - AT&T HTC One (M8)

I can't seem to get data to work whenever I flash an AOSP based rom. Checking APN always reveals an empty list, and manually adding and saving one still results in an empty APN list. This has happened with both BlissStalk and SlimKat build 9.0. I found this thread which details the same problem I'm having, but the suggested workaround is not an option for me as it seems to break wifi. I'm at a loss for how to fix this. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
Some info on my device:
AT&T HTC One M8
3.42.502.1 firmware (Also happened on latest 4.28.502.1, I RUU'd back to see if that would help. No dice)
Bootloader unlocked
S-OFF
TWRP 2.8.6.0

Go to file explorer and navigate to system/etc and look for the apns-conf.xml file. Open it and post it back here.

This is the one from the SlimKat zip, confirmed to be in /system/etc/ on my phone. Changed extension to .txt so I could attach it. The correct APN is found at line 715.

Mine is vastly different from yours. I also checked from some other att stock zips I have and they mirror mine. Are you on a stock rom right now?

I'm running ViperOneM8 3.2.1 at the moment since I couldn't get SkimKat to work. I checked it and it is very different indeed.

Strange though, the file on Viper doesn't have any entries for ATT yet that's the only one that shows in the APN list. All entries are for T-Mobile.

RUU'ing down once more to 2.23.502.3 and then flashing seems to have fixed the issue. Not sure if it was a firmware, radio, or other issue, but the ROM is now listing APNs and I am connected to my network.

[Q] padawan v6.2 problems

Okay so i have used the padawan rom a couple times and not had any problems. I habe recently gone back to it and have had issues. I will say i have done the install instructions to the tee, i have re flashed probably three times now, and nothing has changed. So my problems are that it will randomly drop a call, it will not allow me to change my APN settings and i am also no longer getting LTE.
Does anyone know of a way to fix this or possibly know whats wrong? Oh and i have also redownloaded the rom probably 4 times now. Im about to revert to an older release to see if it fixes it.
Thanks for any help.
The latest version of the ROM does not have the modem file included in the zip...If your existing file somehow became corrupt or does not play nicely with the ROM you may have the problems you are describing...
Download the modem file for your carrier and region and flash it...
People keep suggesting flagging 6.1 first and then flashing 6.2 on top of it. But I see no problem just flashing in Modern.
The APN settings took me a minute to find but I eventually figured out it means Access point names.
also there is a button at the top to create a new APN

Data drops are a common issue on cm10 jb Roms, I would suggest using agrabren disarmed toaster version 67 , or helicopters 88 cm10 nightlies

I'm using the same cm10 and it's ok.
Did you wipe all partitions first (except sd) and then install it?
Also you have to install the correct version of gapps. 20121011 i think it was. It's linked to from the op of the thread.
Also your touch screen issues with the Evo 3d could very likely be hardware related. I've had to have that fixed twice at the Sprint store. It's a known issue.
when rewinding video on IMDB says "can't play this video"

Thank mojo for your reply....i did full wipe ( Wipe data/reset + Cach and davik + format partrition without sdcard) before install..About the laggy....it happens not only on my phone but on my friend phone that i try to install this rom on also...so i think this is not relating to hardware....i will try to reflash and choose the right Gapps to see if this fix the issue and report back..
No problem. Also you should be S-Off with any hboot except 1.58.
I did wire trick then flashed jbear 1.58 then downgraded to 1.50 jbear. Then did full wipe and flashed gangnam style cm10. My radio firmware was already up to date. Maybe you should first take the extra time to put it back to stock with ruu just to make sure your radios and everything are most recent? If you have the patience you could try to follow QADERSO (quick and dirty...) guide to returning to stock then doing root and s-off and jbear. Just add final step of downgrading to jbear 1.50 by downloading it to your sdcard and renaming it to PG86IMG.ZIP then going into bootloader once. Then you can wipe and install cm10. Also I use 4ext touch recovery and highly recommend it.
Doing all that should guarantee you are identical to me. There are still some issues with this ROM but not the serious ones you describe.
Problems I'm having are the camera resolution or ratio is weird (i get black bars above and below) and if i connect wifi with 4G on then the 4G goes into some kind of loop connecting then disconnecting then disable and enable adapter and repeat. CM10 power control in notification bar for 4g is kind of spotty too. I'll pay with it for a while longer before making a final decision but I think so far the pros outweigh the cons. I did find also that i was using tons more internal storage and ran out of space for my apps so i partitioned my sd card and have it a 3gb ext4 partition and installed Links2SD app and now have lots of space for apps. Maybe one of these days I'll write a guide for the whole process.
Found a bigger issue with this ROM and updating to today's release did not help. /data partition is filling up because wimax is running in debug mode or something. /data/wimax/logs directory is filling up quickly while wimax is on. I had 700mb from less than 24 hrs.
I cleaned them up manually but will need to schedule a batch job to delete it or figure out how to stop generating the logs...

Known issue. Just "flash" the attached zip file from recovery which will delete/recreate that directory then mark it immutable so no more logs accumulate.

I had a couple of questions if anybody has had experience with such, first one...
Has anyone tried to use the Acid audio RLA5 sound mod and if so, I've heard that having a eq already in the ROM makes it
all goofy for install? Is this true and if so, has anyone else used this mod and what procedure did you do?
As for the second part, has anyone had any luck finding a full inverted gapps that everything will work? I thought I found one but it didn't have contacts inverted, then found another but it crashed google now. If anyone has had any luck could you drop me a link. ( all gapps including mms etc..)
On the 3rd part of the adventure of swapping out apks, I updated google ears via alert from playstore and it crashes something else.. LOL. Its just a never ending battle. But, through the day I found a piece here and there and now it all seems to be working and all inverted and that is after updating what play store wanted to.
Right now creating a flashable.zip that should work but not certain on the rules as to post. I already have a pre- written statement that announces that I take no credit in the creation and also name the Devs responsible and also will be linking their threads as well but not sure if that is enough. If anyone has any input that would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Z.

thank Mojo again for a very clear instruction....I have a question:
1) Is it true that i get my radio update to version 11.77 (it is 10.xx at the moment) when i install this RUU file (RUU_SHOOTER_U_ICS_35_S_HTC_Europe_3.28.401.1_Radio_11.77.3504.00U_11.25.3504.06_M_release_262714_signed.exe).
2)Will my Hboot change after this install??? and also my phone come back to S-on????
3)When i do this install with this file PG86IMG.zip from bootloader then it will get hboot change as far as i know right....???
IF my knowledge was correct, i will give it a try to install the RUU file to update my phone's radio back to 11.77 (it was 11.77 before i did the downgrade hboot to 1.49.007 from 1.53.xx) then install Gangnam Style rom to see if the 3g issue go away....
If i was wrong that when i install the RUU, my phone will be S-on again...im so lazy to try this because i will stick with Viper3d sense 4.1 then...
1 more thing mojo...i am using the latest disarm toaster rom (DisarmedToaster-0.2.9-67-shooteru)

Thanks ramjet. Actually I already switched to the AOKP release (Linaro build) which is very similar to the ROM mentioned in this topic and doesn't have the Wimax log issue but hopefully that zip is out there for others to find because I didn't see it in the dev thread for that ROM at least not at the time I mentioned it above anyway. There's a few small Q's I have about this AOKP ROM but I should start a new topic for those.

That RUU file is for Europe.... Are you in Europe? Is that a GSM phone? If so I'm afraid I can't advise about radio firmware versions. Firmware for radio is probably different for European users and the guide which I was referencing is Ramjet's guide found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1889438 but that guide is for Sprint or Virgin Mobile users (CDMA phones). Basically the guide is accurate I think for European user too but the RUU file should be different. Well, you should consult Ramjet on that as he wrote the guide and may know more. Also, you are correct that running the RUU will return the phone almost completely to stock. It replaces radio firmwares and HBOOT and will put you back to non-root. I just suggested it as a way to make sure you go completely back to stock and start from scratch so I can be sure you were on same versions of everything as me but if you are in Europe you cannot exactly follow it maybe. Anyway, I think you have explained all your issues though. By the sound of it you probably flashed USA (Sprint) radio firmware by accident when you downgraded your HBOOT. Next time you downgrade HBOOT you should make sure the file you are using is HBOOT only with NO radio firmwares in it.
So I think you have two options....
1.) To go back to stock using latest Europe RUU, root/S-OFF phone again (S-OFF might stay, I forget), put 4EXT back and then try to downgrade HBOOT to a compatible version again. This time you must downgrade without changing radios or if you can find a flashable zip with just your proper European 11.77 radios then you can flash just the radios back to 11.77 after downgrade. I don't know the version numbers for GSM phones for HBOOT or radios so I apologize if I am getting this wrong.
2.) Assuming your only problem is the 3g connection currently then maybe you can just find a flashable zip which will update only your radio firmware back to 11.77 without having to go completely back to stock. If everything else about the phone seems OK then this is definitely faster assuming you can find the right file.
Again, I know little about GSM phones and European radios so you may want to find a more knowledgeable person to help you. Definitely though if you flashed the wrong radios then you will lose your 3G connection! I have seen HBOOT's posted both with and without radio firmwares included so I think from now on you must be extra careful when flashing HBOOT to make sure you are not changing radios to USA radios and you should keep around a flashable zip with only your 11.77 radios in it so you can fix this as it may happen again.
Good luck!
If you read the developer's thread carefully you'll notice that he affirmed that data drops will occur.

Yes, Mazda's rom is the one I am using now. I wiped everything, then flashed 3.5 and then immediately did incremental to 3.5.2 then gapps of course and wiped dalvik and rebooted into rom. I checked and wimax logs were not accumulating like they had been. I just checked again and there are only some small "sequansd##.log" files in that directory but these files are tiny (about 9kb) each. I suppose it could become a problem after many months of use but when I was using the Gangnam Style CM10 rom mentioned in the title I filled the remainder of my /data partition in a single day with a ton of 500K files (forgot the name of the file) in addition to the sequansd files. So I guess these logs if not rotated could eventually become a problem but the severity of the issue is nowhere near on the same scale with a clean install Mazda's 3.5.2.
I just set the /data/wimax/logs folder permissions to 440 and deleted the sequansd log files so I think that will suffice? If not I'll flash the zip. I'm just being lazy.
BTW, thanks for your posts in Mazda's thread (using Power Toggles now and I love it) and your QADERSO guide. Both have been very helpful to me.
That ROM is known to have data drops on a mobile network. You can't do anything about it as the ROM is built that way. The only fix would be for the developer to fix it or for you to chanhe ROM.
Goodluck!

Logs were still being written even when people changed permissions. The only way to stop the logs was to make the folder immutable. I flash the zip as part of my install.

Yup. You're right. Still accumulating. I'll flash the zip. Although it's probably just a debug setting somewhere that needs to be flipped off. Could be in kernel or in the module loading. Although I'm thinking in Linux terms. Not sure how much of that really translates to android and I'm not about to start mucking around compiling my own kernel.

[MOD] CyanogenMod 11 on Verizon S4 in GSM mode (AT&T/T-Mobile)

CM11 is great, but the libraries it's got appears to be heavily targeted toward CDMA mode and less so GSM. If you're a traveler or want to use your device with AT&T/T-Mobile, you'll want to install this patch which loads the AT&T ril onto your device. Without it, I couldn't receive any incoming calls and calls I placed couldn't be hung up (I would be stuck at the "hanging up" screen).
This patch is just two files (libril-qc-qmi-1.so and libril.so) pulled from the AT&T version (jflteatt) of CM11 (specifically, this version: https://download.cyanogenmod.org/get/jenkins/53825/cm-11-20140104-SNAPSHOT-M2-jflteatt.zip).
I'm overseas right now, so I'm only able to test GSM mode, but it's working just fine for me now. If it's not enough for you, you might want to try the two other changes suggested here: https://jira.cyanogenmod.org/browse/CYAN-2362
To summarize, they are:
Set telephony.lteOnCdmaDevice=0 in /system/build.prop
loki_flash the jflteatt CWM with jfltevzw aboot - see here. Note that this is specific to MDK, so don't do this if you're on any other bootloader. Let me know if you want me to create a flashable version of this possible fix.
I didn't need to do either of these things to get it working for me, but you may need to do the first item if you want LTE (I'm currently in a country without LTE, so I can't test).
Flash this for GSM-optimized rils: View attachment jfltevzw-gsm-0.2.zip
Flash this to revert to CDMA-optimized rils: View attachment jfltevzw-cdma-0.2.zip
Are these the updated files?

I see above that the flashable zip files were removed due to being broken. Are the ones attached good now? Also, these are AT&T files so will they work the same way with T-Mobile service since its fixing the issue with GSM and is not carrier specific?
If so, I'll give it a shot tonight. Thanks!

No. Attached files are no-good; I've now removed them. I made a mistake in building the packages that'll likely brick your phone. I quickly removed the links while trying to fix my own device but forgot to remove the attachments. I'll repost when it's working properly.

Glad I didn't trust the files! I noticed that someone else in the same cyanogenmod ticket thread recommended an update to a line as a fix. On my mobile, or I would post a link. Thanks for trying to find a fix though!

Now that I've unbricked myself, I've updated the zip packages and they should be usable now.
Lesson learned: mount partitions by name whenever possible! I'm lucky I didn't blow away anything that I couldn't recover from. I was just unlucky that it was a partition not normally included in odin reset tars.

So to recap how this is done, please correct me or agree.
If someone was installing CM 11 for the first time, they would:
1) Download the CM rom.
2) Download the GAPPS they prefer.
3) Download your 2 zip files for GSM ril provided in this thread.
4) Flash into recovery (assuming they had a custom recovery in place already)
5) Wipe data/cache/dalvik
6) Flash ROM, Gapps, and the 2 GSM ril zips you provided. (I prefer to flash Gapps after the first boot)
7) Reboot and watch it boot up.
8) Calls should work (assuming the correct apn settings are in place)
Agree?

Almost!
(2) is optional and can be done later. There's no dependency here.
For (3), you only need the GSM flash package. The cdma package is provided if you want to revert.
For (4), a custom recovery is a given, since CM can't be flashed on the vzw s4 without it
For (6), flash only the GSM package.
For (8), calls should work even if APN settings are broken.
The two things to test for is:
1. After you've placed a call and are connected to the other party (i.e. the call timer starts ticking), you can successfully hang up.
2. You can receive an incoming call.
And to answer the carrier specificity question -- I'm testing this with Taiwan Mobile, so it's most definitely not carrier specific.
I guess this would have to be re-flashed after each nightly update that is applied?

I haven't worked with nightlies, but I suspect the answer is yes since nightlies are full images and not deltas.

I just tested with a fresh install of the 2/5 nightly. I wanna have your baby. Works perfectly, thank you!
It worked!
You have solved a problem that so many people were having. It works!!! Thank you for contributing. Now I'm going to spend time manually packaging a ROM with this and the apps and features I want.
Thank you!!!
Thank you. I'm using my Verizon s4 on T-Mobile and you saved me the trouble of doing this manually every time

With the latest comment on the linked Jira thread (and a correct APN), I think that I have an AT&T SIM working in my Verizon S4 without this mod. Does anyone else have this experience? (I should note that I flashed the GSM zip from OP three days ago, but I have since wiped, installed Hyperdrive ROM, wiped again, and reinstalled CM11 without flashing the GSM zip.)

To clarify, here's what I did:
1. Wipe data and cache.
2. Install latest CM11 nightly and gapps.
3. Boot and confirm that everything is working.
4. Add the letter "U" to the build.prop line that said "ro.telephony.ril.v3=newDriverCall" by default.
5. Reboot and confirm that Verizon LTE still works.
6. Power off, insert AT&T SIM, power on.
7. Choose LTE/WCDMA/GSM in Mobile Network settings and select a working APN.
8. Get H or H+ icon in signal bars and use speed test to confirm the blazing fast 0.10M down, 0.13M up.
9. Place call to my Verizon number, check voicemail, and hang up normally (I didn't get stuck at "hanging up").
10. Place test call from Skype to AT&T number, pick it up on the S4, and hang up from the S4 normally.
Thanks!

Are you running CM11 nightly or the snapshot?
FWIW, I tried "ro.telephony.ril.v3=newDriverCallU,newDialCode" from this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50036251&postcount=1591 and it caused a segfault loop on bootup.
Given all the issues getting CM11 working well, I'm probably going back to stock MDK 4.2.2; it's still less bug-prone than CM11 is
I'm using the CM11 nightly. I didn't add the part after the comma to the build.prop line.
I am very grateful for this! I searched and searched for days for a way to fix my dialer not letting me hang up a call after switching to Straight Talk AT&T. Now if I could only figure out how to get 4g LTE instead of just H+, I would do backflips! I appreciate your post immensely!

Are you using the latest (MK2) radios? Those should get you LTE if AT&T has refarmed AWS LTE in your area.
I will try flash mk2 right now. Thanks. I'll report back ASAP.

FWIW, I flashed the non-hlos + modem.
Did you use the vruemk2 or the other one? I just did that one, but it was not the non-hlos. I read that you should only flash the non-hlos modem that matches your boot loader. I'm on mdk boot loader.

Q&A for [ROM][E970/E971/E973]LG Official Kitkat 4.4.2[stock]
Some developers prefer that questions remain separate from their main development thread to help keep things organized. Placing your question within this thread will increase its chances of being answered by a member of the community or by the developer.
Before posting, please use the forum search and read through the discussion thread for [ROM][E970/E971/E973]LG Official Kitkat 4.4.2[stock]. If you can't find an answer, post it here, being sure to give as much information as possible (firmware version, steps to reproduce, logcat if available) so that you can get help.
Thanks for understanding and for helping to keep XDA neat and tidy!
Music from SD Card
I just flashed the rom on my e970 and everything works including the phone seeing the SD Card but I can't get any music player to read the music that is on the sd card. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Use sd scanner app from play store, that works fine for me.
Will this support Mod kernels? I think that's what I want to say but I'm not a complete Android geek.... Yet
2g-3g switch problem
I can't switch to WCDMA from gsm. It only receives 2g signals.
When I try to launch mobile networks , it crashes.
I couldn't locate the modem settings in engineering mode either.
i have thesame problem...
Upgrading to CM12 Lollipop
Hi, I'm trying to upgrade to Lollipop from this ROM and at first while flashing the CM12 zip i encountered the error "This zip is intended for gee, geeb" etc. So, I tweaked the updater-script and removed the assert and ran the script which installed the ROM but I'm unable to install the Google Apps. I tried with all gapps packages (minimal, micro, full), but none of them works. Can you please help me out?
Does this have anything to do with build.prop? Even though I flashed the fix to show as ATT e970, the CM12 updater-script identified this device as "geehrc4g"??Also, build.prop has some lines like
ro.com.google.cliendidbase.am=android-kt-kr
ro.com.google.cliendidbase.am=android-kt-kr
Do you know where can I find the exact build.prop for e970 (Kitkat)?
Device: LG - e970
Recovery: TWRP 2.8.3.0
is all good w the e971 and this rom?
Hi, just wondering how everything functions on the e971 with this rom? Flashing roms is new to me and am so bummed to finally receive word from Rogers there will be no official update for this device which is in my opinion unacceptable buying a flagship device and getting only 1 update for it 6 months later when the phone manufacturer has updated it, I'm done with them, anyways some help would be appreciated as I need my phone to function properly, I am on official JB 4.1.2 from Rogers, I have unlocked the device to be used with any carrier, now I am planning on rooting using the zv9-zvb universal root method, i was then planning on unlocking bootloader using freegee and then using freegee to install cwm phils touch and then gonna install this rom, anyways are those the propper steps and if I so will all functions of my e971 work as they should with this rom?
Also if i need to go back will it be as easy as downloading paulicats rogers 4.1.2 zip and using cwm to install it and revert back? Any help would be greatly appreciated and if your ever in my neck a the woods I'll buy ya a beer. Thanks.
Working fine for me
This is my first android device so I was attempting this for the first time, I was on Stock JB. First I Rooted the phone(universal root kit), unlocked its boot loader(app from playstore), was taken to cwm, tried to flash the ROM it didn't work a status 7 error occurred, then I flashed philz recovery, flashed the ROM again and its working fine.
I am new to this android world so this may sound noob but is there a way to backup my apps only so that I don't have to re install them every time I flash a new ROM. (Will be trying a lot of roms from now).
lg optimus g e971
When flashing the kittkat do I need to us cwm and be rooted
how to flash e970 stock ROM!
I tried it by installing zip via cwm recovery but it says error in zip.
Flawless Installation
I just installed this ROM on my LG Optimus G E971 and the entire installation was simple and flawless. Prior to this ROM, I had [ROM][5.1.1] [GEEB] [Mako base] Unofficial CM-12.1 which is a great ROM too, however, I wanted to try something that was based on stock. I have the latest version of CWM for LG Optimus G E971.
This is how I installed the following ROM:
1. Downloaded the ROM onto my phone
2. Booted into CWM recovery
3. Wiped data/factory reset
4. Wiped cache Partition
5. Installed ROM
6. Rebooted
Once I have used this ROM as my daily driver for a while, I will get back and share my opinion and thoughts about it.
I stumbled on to this rom and I must say it is very good. There are only two issues I am having that hopefully someone can help me out with. The first issue is an annoying data network setting prompt that happens when I boot up which tells me that I will incur additional data charges. There is a setting under mobile networks that is checked called "ask when data connected" Whenever I try to uncheck it it reverts back to being checked. The second is under access point names. There are two other apn there that I cannot delete for some reason. Does anyone have any ideas how I can resolve these issues?
how do i flash e973 kk flash to my phone?
first of all, im sorry to bring back an old thread back to life, also for my lack of knowledge,
but id really love to install KK on my e973.
I managed to root my phone using root with restore by Bin4ry, but im lost at the steps forward from that.
Could anyone advise me with the prerequisites, tools and steps?
Thanks
Mobile network not working
The only thing that doesn't work is data/mobile network connection. I can make calls and receive texts, but data doesn't connect. What are some fixes I can try?

Just straight on top of the rom, or should I do a fresh install?
EDIT: Also are there different versions of the modem? This post only has one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2220048

Yes the one you have linked to. Just reboot into cwm or twrp which ever recovery you have and flash it. Once done reboot.

I tried flashing the modem, but it doesn't seem to have any effect. I'm still getting this error (i.imgur.com/Ds2sHYc.png) and everything works the same as before (but at least nothing new is broken).
What APN Settings are you using?

I'm not really sure what APN is, but after Google-ing it I found this on AT&T's support site (att.com/esupport/article.jsp?sid=KB424489&cv=820#fbid=lMQAN_Ixyrx).
I don't know what it did, but following the instructions fixed the problem
Thanks for the advice

you need to just RUU. If you are unsure how to do this some simple searching will give you all you need but it is quite easy. Assuming you have the sprint variant just RUU The latest version.
OMJ has a wonderful RUU/Firmware/Stock Rom thread under android dev. You will find the latetst RUU there in fact its like the first one at the start of the thread: Make sure you show your thanks to him for it all
http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-one-m9/development/ruu-sprint-htc-one-m9-1-32-651-17-t3073355
As always.. please please read the instructions before doing any of this. If you use the windows RUU make sure you are running windows (duh) and have the latest HTC drivers installed on your machine first by install htc sync manager ( you can remove the sync manager program afterwards and leave the drivers installed if you want) http://www.htc.com/us/software/htc-sync-manager/
PS- it would also help a ton if you gave a bit more info such as what rom you flashed and if you flashed GSM firmware. Depending on the ROM you flashed you might just need to flash the latest firmware. Just to be safe and cover all bases just RUU.
I have already ran the RUU i know at least 6 times and it still didn't work. even goes though the whole activating handset deal. Still no actual cell service.
i flashed Android Revolution HD 14.0 once i was able too. doesn't specifically state that it's GSM but no one really said anything about it working on sprint.
i flashed the firmware via OMJ post about 3 times. all of them full, modified, and radio only. no change in the issue
when i go into the phone identity i have a LTE imsi number but my number and CDMA imsi number are all 0's idk if thats an issue. i also tried to manually reprogram it but when i enter##******# to get to MDN menu nothing happens.
thanks for the quick reply
