I've had my tab for almost a year and I always have the same issue with every single ROM. When I flash a ROM everything works great for a few hours but by the end of the day it gets soooo slow. It gets so slow web browsing is next to impossible. Scrolling web pages becomes painfully slow and even the most basic functions such as screen unlock and other basic UI slowdowns are driving me nuts. If I use recovery to wipe the cache & Dalvik cache things speed up quite a bit, while a factory reset or re-flash bring it back to where it should be for a few hours. Regardless, it always ends up slowing back down. I've used everything from Stock HC and stock ICS, Task650 ICS and HC, to CM9 and CM10 (to include AOKP and other CM based builds) and a few others with CPU speeds everywhere from stock to 1.4GHZ. I've also tried every kernel I've found to no avail. It runs great right after a flash which is why I find it hard to believe that my issue is simply "the Tegra 2 just sucks". Anyone else have similar issues or any insight?

Is this slowdown also happening after factory reset with no additional apps installed? Could otherwise be one of your extra apps creating a memory/cache fragmentation. But if it happens on vanilla (i.e. no additional apps installed) it could be hardware?
I was going to ask the same thing as Just-another did. From my understanding the davlic cache is where the OS stores application loading information. read here for more details on it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dalvik_(software) The davlic also stores this information to speed the boot up process. when you wipe it, the OS has to reload this information into it about each application during hte boot process (thats why new flashes and boots after the davlic wipe take forever. With the introduction of ICS, I personally noticed that the OS actually told you it was preparing applications whereas GB and Froyo didnt do this. I had tablet that wiped it out each boot. that sucked.
I would suggest looking at the regular caches or your apps to see if one is hogging processes. then again, I may be way off base.
edit: this is a good concise explanation.
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/7541281/what-is-dalvik-and-dalvik-cache
This may be a bit simplistic but have you tried just rebooting your device? Mine sometimes slows down to a crawl and this fixes it for me..
I agree with Pickupman66,
I would start from scratch again.. Process of elimination. A nice CM10 should do it.. But don't load new apps at all for the 1st day (don't fill in you google acount details). Leave it standard, and see how it behaves over a 24 hour period. Then slowly install apps.. install the most common and confident ones first, and leave time to make sure they're not hogging the system. Sooner or later, you'll find the one that causing the issues.

And it also interested me sometimes and I tab slow but works ok after restar not like it when I reset the time lost as the speed of response ?
I have a Samsung galaxy tab P7500 4.0.4 stock room . !
The 4.3 ROM and Kernel 3.0.8 perf+chocolate on P500 (as well as P505, P506, P509, and other clones), which most have currently, seems to be working very horribly. The battery life drain remains, with my P505 shutting down in less than 7 hours when on sleep (I know, P500 has a better battery life than my P505, but its life also drains life like anything). They do not come with the GAPPS, and there are other problems in getting that application. I had a problem with my AOSP stop working, and a train of those types of messages "Unfortunately, Trebuchet had stopped" when I rebooted the phone. Luckily, I had just closed my browser then, and since the Keyboard did not work, I was not able to search for anything. Lucky as anything, I had recently been to the 4.2 ROM site, and reached it through the History. I then just downloaded it. I'm pretty sure I know why that had happened. My /cache had filled, with only a couple KB's left. So said the CWM recovery message after I had installed the GAPPS. My ROM space was filled as well, even after getting rid of all the applications that I would not use, but still had no space to get the 20 MB GAPPS on there. If I had not been to the ROM site recently, and if it did not show in the site, I would have to go through the unbelievably long steps: Install the KDZ Updater on my computer again (I had uninstalled it and its Adapters months back), and install the 2.2 OS (the only one available with the KDZ Updater, sadly), and flash it. Then would I be able to install 4.2/4.3 on it.
4.3 ROM and Kernel on P500 has very few changes from the 4.2, and has more disadvantages in getting than 4.2. The few added features are such things as adding some "fn" key shortcuts or so, and other minute features that you probably won't give a second look at. All the Developer options still would be there after you click on your phone's build 8 times, in the "About Phone" at the very bottom of setting. The Reboot shortcut in the Power Menu is there in 4.2, along with every other Developer features. The camera seems to work at lower fps than 4.2, but that's my observation. And, as you may know, Link2SD works on both ROM's, though I had a bit of problems with it on 4.3 (like it not linking properly, not showing how much space there is left on the SD-EXT, etc). The SD script works on the EXT 4, and none other on 4.2/4.3. On 4.1, however, it works on EXT 2. The Swapper 2 also does work with 4.2/4.3, but ONLY once you install the Busybox from Stericon (4.2 and 4.3 both come with Busybox-jb).
The 4.3 is currently being experimented with, and people are just taking it from the Jenkins or other Developer websites and posting them all around. There are many more bugs and glitches in the 4.3 ROM, but not coming in my mind right now. Many applications I can install on the 4.2 could not have been installed on the 4.3. I would suggest, though, that you uninstall all the useless system applications from the ROM, just to save space, and maybe add something else in them. NEVER delete and of the applications such as the Phone, Messenger, Trebuchet, Google TTS, Pico TTS, and others. Get rid of ones you don't use, which may be the Voice Dialer. Make sure you search up the ones you delete before you delete any, and make sure, of course, that you make a nandroid backup.
4.3, as my preference, would not be close to a good choice until they actually are done experimenting with it. All 4.3 has in change, as I said, are one or two things, and of course that "4.3" written on the "About Phone". It's no better, rather, worse, trust me, as I have heard from more people, and am not alone in facing all the problems. 4.2 comes with all the GAPPS installed, and is 99 percent the same as the 4.3. I have soft-bricked my phone 7 times, and 2 times with 4.3, only because of struggling to get what's already there in 4.2, and what can be obtained in 4.2 as well.
Please don't mind if I wrote too much. I'm just new to posting here (though have known and been to this site for years), and am liking it very much.

OK, OK, most improvements (if they are indeed improvements) are under the hood. The more versatile notifications system is probably the best of them. Most others of the few will not play on P50*.
But be fair. 4.2 was the same for battery. I did very well with Sweetnsour's version 11 kernel. In 4.3, I can get 30 hours light usage, 20+ for more moderate usage. Most important thing is that these ROMs -- ALL of them -- need help on battery life. Need to run something like DSBatterySaver or 2xBatterySaver to control radios when phone not in use (screen off). An app to remind you or automatically turn of WIFI when exiting a hot-spot is also necessary.
While I may go back to 4.2, I am satisfied with 4.3, even as a daily driver. Main problem now is stagnation in development for our devices. Not much (if anything) changed/fixed since the September 4 build I am still using.
4.4 is coming soon and will pour more brown goo on 4.3 development. Maybe this is for the best! One article spoke of 4.4 being lighter weight which should be a great boon to us. We shall see ...

My apologies. I had meant the kernel as well as the 4.2/4.3 ROM, the "3.0.8-perf+chocolate", that is being used by most. The latest ROM's with 4.3 all have the perf+chocolate kernel on them, which is also the cause of all the battery drain and all. 4.2 ROM with the same perf+chocolate Kernel seems better with the battery, but that was what I had noticed. Maybe it isn't. Again, my apologies, I had meant the kernel as well as the ROM, not the ROM itself.
I have yet to try the Sweetnsour kernel with 4.2 (or possibly, 4.3) and hopefully won't run into the problem of the distorted blue and green colors, a problem I had run into years ago when trying to install 4.1, and needing mighty "Joban's Kernel" to fix that problem; a problem with all P505's. P500 clones (P505, P506, so on...) are not exactly clones from the Kernel perspective (they will need slight tweaking in kernels to get the right color). And of course, the RAM also differs, with the P500 having 512 MB RAM, as well as the P506, but P505 (mine) having 414 MB RAM. Keep in mind that different Kernels/ROM's each have certain incompatibilities, that is, not all of what can be installed on the 4.2/4.3 perf+chocolate Kernel can be installed on the Sweetnsour Kernel. Same is with the ROM's.
Yes, the problem with the battery has been there. However, going for the ROM/Kernel with the least battery consumption would not at all be a smart choice. If the Sweetnsour Kernel does not have the compatibility with Link2SD (or Apps2SD) scripts, I would not look twice at that Kernel, only because of the reason that the 270 apps I have installed on my phone are only because of Link2SD (...and of course, the SD card space ), which made space on the SD card for all the /data, /cache, /dalvik-cache files, so that we don't have to worry a lot about our Legend phones' internal space running out. Without Link2SD type of applications existing, a 32 GB SD-card would not be a bit better than a 2 GB SD-card, as space would run out of internal storage faster than you would know.
Look at the names Google has been coming up with for the Android OS's. From the Cupcake, to Donut, Eclair, Froyo, GingerBread, HoneyComb, Ice Cream Sandwich, to JellyBean, and now soon to come to the table is "KitKat". And by the way, I would suggest you try the "Juice Defender" application, as it has many neat features, including lowering your screen brightness to lower than the default lowest of your phone's to save battery, and short-cuts to closing Wi-Fi/Data, so on, and much more than the 2xBatterySaver or others would have. Can you please tell me what CPU Frequency the Kernel Sweetnsour has got? As in, does it have the same Frequency as 120-866? What else is different? I'd like to know about it before testing it out, because of the fact that I would need a full factory data reset before installing it, only because the Link2SD and other apps that have those scripts installed, and the partitions in the SD-card will mess the whole installation up (at least that's what had happened to me when I tried without factory data resetting). Thanks!

I use link2sd without a hitch, also on version 11 kernel
With sooo many apps, have you run into the "Achilles Heel" I cite for link2sd? Seems all those linked dex's need to get back on data for the first "android is updating" after wiping the dalvik cache for a flash. Maybe avoided by not having the mount scripts always resident the way I do it?

Version 11 has all the CPU frequencies available. Has SmartassV2 and other governers and i/o schedulers included a new "zen."
Simply do a backup (ALWAYS!) and flash the kernel. No need to futz with anything else. Don't work or don't like it? Restore the backup.
Thanks. I'll try installing the Kernel as soon as I get some time in my hands.

I noticed that my RAZR XT910 had become very slow after some time. I am using the UK jellybean firmware. Recently I had a problem that was only resolved after reflashing the phone. After the flash i noticed how smooth the phone was again. Installed many of my apps again (Nova Launcher / Widget Locker / Beautiful & HD Widgets and a ton other). The phone is still smooth and usable at the moment. I have not yet rerooted the phone, but will get to that very soon. My fear is the phone will probably start becoming slow again over time. What should i do? Has anyone else had a similar experience? Oh, and clearing cache also never sped the phone up again.. Just wish it would stay smooth like it is now.

For running it smoothly you need more RAM free for tasks. So, if you open a Browser, then PlayStore and Music App your phone will tend to get slower (Sadly, Droid Razr only has 1GB unlike few other new phones). Also, putting many apps on your phone that remain open in background unnecessarily does not help (Some Apps use your phone even when you havent even opened them).
You can use the "Advanced Task Manager" or other task managers to monitor, how much RAM is being used, which tasks/Apps are using it and probably uninstall some of the garbage Apps. Also, you can kill the processes to free up RAM space, that will make your phone instantly fast, in case it tends to slow down.
I used the Cache clearing from Boot Menu, it did not help me out as well. So I finally had to put this task manager and use it to control my Apps whenever my phone slows down.
I noticed a little lag on the 4.2 kernel but it seems to be running smoother on the 4.3. I am using cyanogen mod 10.2 but just remember to flash the correct gapps if you go this route.

Hi!
I met the same problem too. The interface was very slowly.
My solution was to increase more space on internal memory. I was almost full because I downloaded offline map files - a lot of small files in complicated folder hyerarhy (2 Gb).
Flash memory like SSD-disk needs free space for quick work.
I deleted offline files and reboot and miracle! My phone XT910 became as young dummy phone even on stock 4.0.4.
After that I started playing with custom firmware and now I am on 4.3.1 SlimBean and it is more smoothy and more free RAM without moto-soft.
Hello, guys,
I have had Redmi Note 3 for 6 months now and I have been struggling with an annoying issue.
Whatsapp gets killed after a little time of idleness and unless I kill it in the task manager and restart it, I cannot either receive or send messages. When I check in the running apps section, it is not there so the OS certainly kills it. And just clicking its icon on the desktop, opens the GUI but it does not work unless I force close it and re-open it.
I have had issues with Whatsapp on previous devices - more of the common stuff - delayed notifications, messy push service. This is something else.
MIUI 8 is notorious, it seems, for its RAM and Battery management killing apps and I often struggle with that, too. For example: I minimize VLC to open Firefox. I switch back to VLC - ok, the movie starts over, the app has been killed. This is really annoying and I have turned off all kinds of optimization to prevent it, with no success. I am not sure, though, that it is connected to the Whatsapp issue. Because Whatsapp seems to get killed when the phone is idle for a moment but not when switching between apps.
I rarely use Viber but I think the situation there is the same. I sent a message to a friend and I got no response. I opened the app 5 days later and the response came However, it had tried to arrive 2 minutes after my original message. But I had not opened Viber for 5 days, so...that happened.
Let me know if you need details about my settings. I would be really grateful if someone can share some insight on what might the issue be. I guess if I root the phone I can try and locate the culprit module that kills apps. Maybe edit a config file to disable the killing functionality. It is clear this ROM does not like running apps....
Thanks,
Kiril Ekblad
P.S. I have been on Google multiple times: nobody seems to have that issue.
Disable battery saver
developer options -> disalbe MIUI optimization
MIUI is way to aggressive in killing apps ....
maybe go for a custom rom?
You can follow this https://forum.xda-developers.com/re...de-redmi-note-3-sd-mtk-multi-tasking-t3358433 and see how it`s going with push up notification.
When i`ve used miui 8, i`ve done this things and it seems to work good, but anyway push up notification came with a small delay..
For this reason i left miui 8 (very bad ram management) and flashed nougat custom rom and everything working good
Thank you, all
I have actually tried all of these and all steps in the quoted topic. No difference whatsoever. I would gladly go for a custom ROM bit things have gotten really complicated lately. A coupke of yeara aho I would easily grab and flash a custom ROM. Now when I browse through the ROMs topics here I get frustrates.
Something about firmwares, stuck bootloaders I have no idea where to start.
Oh and I don't want to lose slow motoon and time lapse videos. Do you know of a custom ROM that supports them ans the stock one does?

Try clean flash of MIUI ROM or flash Epic / Xiaomi.eu ROM
Thanks, I will have to research on the EPIC/EU ROM.
I am all for changing the ROM as long as I can cope with the flashing and I do not lose any of the significant features of the stock ROM.
By the way, recently - the last several days - I have noticed that on multiple occasions Whatsapp seems to be running - it is showing in the Running apps and still the program cannot either receive or send until I force close it and re-start. Whatsapp web also says Phone not connected.
strange problem with 2 devices of z2 it happens late of 2019 up to now! force me to format my phone more than 5 times per month
system UI has stopped and the device becomes very slow and it always hangs up it forces me to factory data reset to normally work again and reinstall stock ROM it works greet after the age of system one weak to two weeks it again freeze and hung up and many apps close unfortunately and system UI also close when I facing that I know it will never work normally it force me to format everything on it, I told my self it is from stock rom my rom is stock marshmallow, I moved to customs ROMs carbon android 8 and moved to android version 10
the same problem happens I tried all carbon version the same problem, the phone works for few days and begin hanging up like a turtle and sometimes when I press restart it will never boot again it goes to boot loop.
I used these apps: pubg game, Facebook, Messenger, WhatsApp, Instagram , Pinterest
I know and I swear my problems it is not with ROMs mentioned down after all that aching I can say its big companies of hardware with google with sony company they send us virus to make your old devices won't work to force us to buy a new smartphone

I yesterday formated my phone now after finishing posting this post I look my phone it happening again with me, it starts to freeze and begin of endless aching
Same issue
I am having the same problem, at least once a week I need to format and reinstall the ROM.
me too... i have this odd and strange problem!!!! really annoying...
even in stock rom i have problem
Me three! After installing new roms (android 8, 9 and 10) and after a week or so it was freezing, showing system UI had crashed etc. I was thinking I had a hardware issue. I wonder if we all had installed a particular ROM or TWRP version and it caused this .
This forced me to obtain another Z2 to see if it was a software issue - so far its been okay but its been less than a week.
Just so you know, I have always clean installed, and to remedy the situation used 'fastboot erase system -w' to delete everything thinking it was down to bad ram or flash sectors.
I'll let you know how the new one does.
Update: the new Z2 is absolutely fine. The one that kept crashing still does this, but with less usage it takes a while for it to play up. I think the internal memory is bad, where a certain sector is unusable - if that can happen with these mobile flash drives. Apart from writing very big files onto the phone, does anyone know a formatting tool available for android?
Hi has there been any update on this.
I have tried formatting with TWRP but the problem persists.
