Dell Venue Tablets Developer-Edition BSP / Intel® Mobile Development Kit ( Intel MDK )
First I want to take a second to thank and commend Dell on their efforts thus far on working with the open source / android community. Even if currently I can not directly benefit from it.
What is the Intel® Mobile Development Kit for Android* ?
" Are you a system or middleware developer? Use the Intel® Mobile Development Kit for Android* to create Android* system or middleware software that takes advantage of the latest innovations that Intel platforms have to offer. This solution provides access to an x86 Intel® architecture-based tablet, development tools designed to seamlessly create software for this device, and technical collateral about the OS, the tools, system software, middleware, and hardware. Get a device to experiment with and use non-commercial tools from Intel® System Studio to understand the advantages of the Intel platform helping you build apps that are power-efficient and that have the best possible performance."

Which hardware is directly supported with the Intel® MDK for Android?
"The proper usage of the Intel® Mobile Development Kit for Android requires an unlocked Android system to allow developers to execute several profiler daemons that come with the Intel® MDK. Specific Board Support Packages (BSPs) are available for the following devices :"

Unfortunately Dell / Intel have yet to make this option available for the Dell Venue 7 3730
( why I currently can't directly benefit ) / only the kernel source is available.

Personally I don't agree with Dell's decision to not make this option available to the Venue 7 3730 and hope Dell will make it available in the near future.
If you own this device or even if you don't own this device please show your support for the open source community and email Dell's open source department [email protected]
and request that they release the dev-edition option for the Dell Venue 7 3730 we simply are asking Dell to treat all users / devices fairly and to finally make this option available for the entire Intel line up of Venue Tablets we shouldn't be forced to buy a new device simply because we liked the 7 inch size over the 8 inch.
-- update additional information later --
-- will update this evening to explain the process of unlocking the bootloaders , Dell's instructions have you flash a complete android system which isn't necessary if you are simply wanting the bootloader unlocked to be able to install custom recovery / custom ROM's. Following the instructions as provided by Dell will leave your device not able to receive ota updates.
-- future topic unpacking the boot , recovery , fastboot , and droidboot images.

When can we Expect this to be available for DL ?
Never, unless Dell allows the drivers for the Streak to be released or those drivers are reverse engineered.
Hi,
I want to buy Dell Venue 8. But I came across that Dell updated Venue 7 and 8 with Intel merrifield processor - Intel Atom Z3460 for Venue 7 and Intel Atom Z3480 for Venue 8.
They announced, these updated units will be available from July 1st but I can not find any of them on internet.
Anyone has any idea where they might be available - preferably in India?

i'm debating on getting one myself. . .
the drop-in ram from 2GB to 1GB worries me as my current v7 use more than 512mb just running android 4.4.2 no additional apps started
and even though it's a Baytrail based SOC Intel doesn't seem to be living up to it word on Open Source code for it seems they've only published Atom 3800 sources . . .
maybe i'll wait and see if they release another dev-edition first. . .

Ya know, it doesn't help things having these tablets named after the phones that were discontinued at the end of 2012. And that the two are not even compatible with each other.
The new Venue 8 is now showing on dell's site...

I hope they have a discount as the first version...
Has anyone picked up one of the "updated" models? I ordered one for my daughter this weekend and noticed (AFTER I ORDERED IT!) that Dell decreased the RAM from 2GB down to 1GB.
I am wondering how this will affect the gaming performance, as she will use it to play things like Minecraft PE with her friends.
Hello my friends,
I have a simple question. how can I totally flash my device.
I bought a dell venue 8 3840 Android 4.4.4 in China but the stock or Ota(the image or whatever) is for Chinese costumers so its really restricted. you cannot even install apps like google services and youtube, etc and its full with many Chinese markets and apps.
so If anyone can redirect me to any link of forum or somewhere I can follow the instructions for installing a totally new image maybe the american one or whatever...thank you in advance.
Some information of my device:
Dell venue 8 3840
regulatory model name:t02D

ifwi version:0005.2233
software version: venue8 3840_v2.10_141224-nomodem

The 4.4.4 image is out there except I'm not sure how to flash it. What I would do is download Dell's document HERE, follow the instructions re UNBRICKING. The tab will be returned to 4.4.2 US, then locate the OTA after boot, download and install it automatically.
One quick thing ... if you have WiFi only, make sure you get the A150 version. The A195 is for WiFi/LTE.
Major props to @jeffreycentex for taking the time to make this available
[ROM] - Dell Venue 8 7840 - Android 4.4.4 - Dell factory build (KTU84P) - Reapply SuperSU just in case
All,
One of Dell's shortcomings with their new Venue is that they do not readily provide access to their Android builds for reinstall. As you tweak the system, there is always that possibility for the system to encounter an irreparable state.
A Nandroid backup of Dell's Venue 8 7840 Android 4.4.4 image has been posted

I am also working on a general thread to compile the 7840 work that we have all done thus far. Volunteers are appreciated.
The more traffic we build around the 7840, the greater the likelihood that the gods of XDA forum administration will give us our own sub-forum
Thanks!

3741 files are now available at dell's opensource.
rooted boot.img flashbiosv41Root.zip, kernel and more for those that have this tablet.

Venue 10 5050 Baytrail-CR folder is up but empty.
This source finally gives us the isu , it boggles my mind why they have made this an available option for every Intel Android tablet Dell has made except the Venue 7 3730?

I know, I check their opensource weekly, expecting to see a 3730 updated to allow unlocking the bootloader, this tablet is well out of warranty, and every other intel dell has allowes unlocking bootloader.
