I've searched forums but since I dont trust my english, I couldn't find a thing. So, apologies if this was asked already.
Is my warranty void upon requesting bootloader unlock key, or is it when I actually unlock it with that key? Because sony seems to save imei codes in their site. I live in Turkey btw.
Also, another un-related question, is my phone diving-proof ?? I mean, I've shot a couple of videos and photos in pool, but I'm scared to just jump on it with my phone ?

Xperia Z2 is IP58 Certified to water resistancy meaning it can survive underwater at 1 meter for 30mins or less distance for more.

I know, but since I am rooted on locked bl, and backed up ta partition, it should be ok to unlock, right? I mean if I restore my ta backup, I get my warranty back or..?

Yep, restoring your TA relocks your bootloader so flash a stock kernel before you restore.

I have unlocked the bootloader and now i found that there are ways to root to root phone without unlocking the bootloader is it possible to relock the bootloader without losing any phone capabilities.
If you've already unlocked there's absolutely no point in relocking it, you get more freedom and benefit more from an unlocked bootloader eg custom kernels and roms
i just want to know what is the way and suppose i want to give them for warranty repair so i should be prepared lol

If you used TA backup after rooting and BEFORE unlocking, you can return the phone to a fully LOCKED state as if you had never unlocked it.
If you didn't do a TA backup, you can only relock it and thus the reseller/repair centre know what you did.
i never made any TA backup it wasn't available that time there was no root that time without unlocking it.

Then you can't return to completely stock. The relocked notice will give you away.

Look at Xperiafirmware.com -> "Sony XPERIA Z2 D6503 - Android 4.4.2 - firmware 17.1.2.A.0.314". There is a solution to re-lock the bootloader.

I had the S3 and switched to the Z2 last month. So I am new to the bootloader thing.
Is it right that I can relock the BL by restoring the TA partition for warranty for example?
Or can Sony see that I've unlocked it?
just be sure to backup your TA, and you can go back to your original undetectable state

Why do you need unlock at all? Exist root methods without unlocking...
When I want to install a custom kernel for example.

Yeah m8, re-locking your bootloader will wipe your phone so, as always do a backup first:good:
Essentially, I'm screwed right? Not sure why I forgot to backup the TA first but I guess that's what I get for doing stuff without sleep.
Anyway, do I have any options whatsoever for restoring or getting a new TA partition? Would locking the bootloader and flashing a stock ftf help, or is all lost on that front?

How are you screwed? Sony will still honor warranty for hardware issues

I suggest to relock the bootloader before sending the defected unit. That way they may not notice the DRM keys are gone.
I wasn't aware they'd still honor the warranty for hardware so I was a bit worried about that... but then, even if they didn't I guess it's the price we pay for modding (and not making proper backups beforehand lol).
At any rate, I have yet to have a warranty issue (though this is my first sony phone) so hopefully that continues.

I am in the same situation like cjhmdm.
I bought it yesterday second hand and I discovered that the bootloader is unlocked so I don't have any TAbackup.

Hi all.
My questions should have already been answered but I want definitive and up to date answers, since this will be my first sony device in years and I wouldn't want to waste my money.
So, here we go!
1) Can I root my device without loosing warranty?
2) I saw there is a ta backup utility, if I use this my warranty will be okay if i restore before sending in the device?
3) I found a 4 month used one, at a good price and I want to check if it has been rooted and in conclusion if the warranty is valid or not. How can I do this?

Rooting doesnt void your warreny but breaks ota updates untill you undo and unroot the device
You can flash a FTF using flashtool to restore totaly stock firmware if you want
Xperia warrenties are valid from when you purchase
Given proof of purchase and date of purchase your warrenty will start there

Is there any way to check if this is ok or not?
Unlocking the bootloader voids warranty, right?

Ta partition, its currently imposible to check its contents
Unlocking your bootloader will wipe your TA and void your warrenty
The warrenty info should be somewhere on the sonymobile website

Also Nothing is lost exept warrenty when unlocking your bootloader however this varies depending on your country, branding or version of the unit
Most versions just lose X-reality

If I had backed up the TA Partition (which contains the DRM keys) and flashed stock firmware, restored the keys and relocked my bl, would I be ok?
So the only way to lose warranty is unlock the bootloader?
If i flash a rom, on locked bl, my warranty would be ok after I unrooted and restored factory firmware?

Restoring your TA brings back your warrenty :/

Restoring stock fw should reinstate the warrenty because the device isnt concidered modified

I am probably getting my self an xperia z2 this week...
So my question is:
Since i go mad when i get a new phone(desperate need to flash everything out there such as roms, kernels etc) , I need to know what do i lose if i unlock my bootloader and if i do lose something can i get it back?
Please answer only if you are certain of what you are talking about, i want to be free of doubt if possible
There is a lot of debate on what is lost/broken when you unlock the bootloader. As far as I'm aware X-reality, Super Vivid, noise cancelling, and a few other things get lost. It is able to back them up (By Backing the Ta partition up) and restore them at a later date, restoring them re-locks the bootloader though. To back the TA partition up you have to be rooted, you can find guides for that in the general section (there is no one click root method for 23.x.x.x.x.x firmwares btw). @Envious_Data you got any more info on the subject?
from my testing
you lose:
warrenty (region spesific/carrier/international)
X-Reality
Bionz Image processing
the last one effects camera quality but isnt a complete death of camera quality its somewhat worse but its not something to complain about because the device is still able to perform well
x-reality only works in the album app so no need to worry unless you like your pictures being slightly oversaturated and super sharp
i recomend downgrading to 314 via FTF>flashtool and rooting the device so you can backup your TA using the TA backup tool
after you have backed up your TA, store it somewhere safe, google drive, usb stick anywhere you wont lose it
unlock your bootloader and have fun, so long as you dont brick your device
Guys, I'm new to Sony Xperia Z2. Yesterday I backed up my TA partition with TWRP, today I unlocked the bootloader. May I safely restore the TA partition when the bootloader is unlocked, and even after I update the firmware?
I have read a few warnings that wrong TA may permanently hard-brick the device. So, that's why I am afraid.
if you restore someone elses TA it'll brick your device
you have to be on a stock kernel to restore your TA as doing this will relock your bootloader
Then that's fine. The kernel and entire firmware has not changed yet. TA backup is mine.
